3 proposals were received by the Unatego School District for the sale of the former Otego Elementary School. Superintendent Dr. Dave Richards explains:

Dr. Richards said that the proposals received were from the Kildonan School of Amenia, to turn the building into a school for Dyslexic children, from LPP Management for a mixed use facility & 2+4 Management for senior apartments.
State Police are investigating a 1 vehicle crash on State Route 357 in the town of Unadilla that troopers discovered while on patrol. The Unidentified 40 year old man apparently drove off the highway, into Guide wires & a tree, he was extricated by Unadilla Firefighter & he was airlifted to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City for treatment of head injuries & an arm fracture. The investigation is ongoing.
The Town of Sidney Offices, including the Court, has been moved into the New Sidney office building at 44 Grand Street. Sidney Town Supervisor Gene Pigford comments:

The next Town of Sidney Board meeting will officially be held in the 44 Grand Street location in Sidney. The moves were precipitated by the sale of the Sidney Civic Center to 2+4 Management Company, who have built senior apartments on the 2nd & 3rd Floors, which forced offices to move to the 1st floor, or out of the building into new locations.
Otsego County Sheriff's department arrested 36 year old Ryan Biggs of Gloversville following an accident in Worcester Sunday. Biggs is accused of driving mentally & physically disabled people in an ARC vehicle while intoxicated, he was charged with DWI & endangering the welfare of an incompetent or disable person, he was released & faces court action at a later date.
A Cortland man was found guilty by an Otsego County Jury for selling heroin & cocaine in the city of Oneonta recently. 34 year old Jason Chase was found guilty after the jury deliberated for about 40 minute, he was returned to the Otsego County Jail pending sentencing on August 3rd on 2 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 28 year old Aaron Dumond of Denver New York for Tampering with Physical Evidence & Conspiracy, after a reported Assault in Roxbury in May. Dumond allegedly altered and concealed physical evidence; he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond pending future court action.
State Police at Deposit arrested 25 year old William Caiati of Tompkins, for Aggravated Family Offense, Criminal Mischief, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and Harassment. A trooper responded July 4th to a domestic dispute, where 1 victim reported that Caiati placed his hands around her neck, restricting breathing and she was shoved to the ground and injured her wrist, Ciaiti is also accused of disabling the victim's phone. A second victim reported that he allegedly punched her when she attempted to intervene. Caiati left, but was located by phone & turned himself in, he was arraigned in the town of Deposit and remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1000 cash bail. An order of protection was also issued.
State Police at Oneonta arrested 28 year old Kevin Matthews of Worcester for Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle. Troopers responded to a report of a vehicle that was taken without the owner’s permission, Matthews allegedly took the vehicle on July 4th, another vehicle in that driveway sustained damage. Troopers observed the vehicle on I-88 in Richmondville, they arrested Matthews for Driving while Ability Impaired by Drugs and other charges. Matthews was later turned over to troopers at SP Oneonta where he was arrested for Unlawful Use of a Motor Vehicle. He was arraigned in the Decatur Town Court and remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $1000 cash bail or $2500 bond.
State Senator Jim Seward joined officials from local domestic violence prevention programs Monday to announce state grants totaling $45,000 to help support key community services. The funding awards included: Opportunities for Otsego - $15,000; Catholic Charities of Delaware, Otsego & Schoharie Counties - $15,000; Delaware Opportunities - $7,500 & Liberty Resources in Chenango County - $7,500.
State Police at Sidney arrested 35 year old Ronald Greek of Dansville, for DWI with a reported B.A.C of .24%. A trooper on State Route 23 in Oneonta where Greek is accused of Speeding & being intoxicated, He was arrested & was released on appearance tickets for town of Oneonta Court on July 24th.
State Police at Sidney arrested 39 year old John Forte of Unadilla for Aggravated DWI with a reported B.A.C of .21%. Troopers were dispatched to a complaint of an intoxicated driver, a trooper located the vehicle in the driveway of a residence on Depot Street, Forte was arrested & was released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Unadilla Court on July 23, 2018 then later turned over to a sober third party.

The Norwich Fire Department announced that Jan Papelino was unanimously voted to become the fire chief by all six members of the city council. Papelino was an assistant fire chief and volunteer for 39 years & will succeed the recently retired former chief, Tracy Chawgo.
The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force arrested 30 year old Rashi Johnson of Queens, as he exited a bus in Binghamton. Johnson is accused of possessing 217 bags of heroin and 7.3 grams of crack cocaine, Johnson is charged with 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with intent to sell & Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance.
20 year old Kurtis Richards of Johnson City faces up to 20 years in federal prison for his involvement in a meth-manufacturing lab. Richards was part of an arrest of 16 people charged with operating a meth lab in the Southern Tier. Richards will be sentenced August 9th in US District court in Binghamton, for his guilty plea for possessing the pseudoephedrine, an over the counter medicine used to manufacture methamphetamine.
The State Legislature approved of Barbara Underwood remaining as interim attorney general in the aftermath of Eric Schneiderman's resignation. Underwood will stay on as the Attorney General until the end of the year; she will not seek election for the office in November.
State DEC officials are warning New York Motorists to be on the lookout for turtles in the road. Thousands of turtles are killed each year in New York by vehicles; Turtles migrate to nesting areas in May and June, and are more likely to cross roads near rivers and marshy areas. State environmental officials remind drivers that they should only stop and move turtles when conditions are safe.
The Arc Otsego is accepting artwork submissions for its 14th Annual Voice event, which will be held July 27th through August 10th in the Fine Arts Building at SUNY Oneonta. The opening reception will be held on July 27th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, anyone living in New York State who is 18 years of age or older and has an intellectual and/or other developmental disability may submit artwork for consideration. The artwork submission form is available at www.arcotsego.org. The deadline for submissions is June 10th.
A.O. Fox Hospital will offer training for teenagers interested in becoming junior volunteers. The training is scheduled for July 10th from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM in the Fox Hospital’s Education Department. More information is available at the Fox Volunteer Office at 431-5042; the registration deadline is June 22nd.

Governor Cuomo's office announced that he will take on Cynthia Nixon in a televised debate. The details of the debate are still being worked out, such as the date & location of the event.
The State Department of Labor released preliminary local unemployment rates for April. The number of private sector jobs in the State was 8,155,700 while the State’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.6% in April. Locally, Chenango County's unemployment rate was 5.6%, Delaware County was 6% & Otsego County was at 5.1%
The State DOT will host an open house public information meeting this evening at 6:00 PM at the Colesville Town Hall on Welton Street in Harpursville regarding the Dilly Road culvert replacement project. The proposed work zone traffic control will require an approximate 2 week closure of Dilly Road at the intersection of State Route 7. Traffic will use a three-mile, six-minute detour. Dilly Road accommodates an average of 60 vehicles daily. The project is in the preliminary design phase. Construction is currently scheduled for the 2019 construction season.
After 2 confirmed Rabies case, Delaware County Public health announced that Rabies clinics in Delaware County will be held today from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Town of Stamford Garage, June 6th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Town of Tompkins Highway Garage, in Trout Creek & June 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Town of Walton Highway Garage.

State Police released more details on the April 11th crash that killed Whitesboro Police Officer Kevin Crossley. Troopers reported that an eyewitness and a surveillance video showed Officer Crossley made a U-turn, his patrol vehicle then collided with an SUV driven by Nicole Moshier-Harris. Officer Crossley's vehicle was travelling at 74 miles per hour, and his actions were consistent with pursuing an unidentified violator. The coroner’s report determined that Officer Crossley's death was caused by multiple traumatic injuries & he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Moshier-Harris was issued a traffic ticket for failing to yield the right of way, no additional charges are anticipated.
55 Year Old John Morrissette of Otego was arrested by the Otsego County Sheriff's department for several charges; including felony DWI aggravated operating a motor vehicle with 0.18 percent BAC, following a traffic stop on Chestnut Street in Oneonta Sunday. Morrissette faces action in Town of Oneonta court on May 8th
Delaware County Fair officials announced that ALL GRANDSTAND Tickets will go on sale tomorrow at 9:00 am. Tickets are available at delawarecountyfair.org, by phone at 1-800-585-3737 or at Hodges Sales and Service 53 Liberty Street in Walton.
Law enforcement agencies across the state participated in the Operation Safe Stop Day today. Police officers will be on board school buses and monitoring bus routes to ensure safe driving. An estimated 50,000 motor vehicles illegally pass New York State school buses every day. Last year, more than 1000 tickets were issued for people passing a stopped school bus.
Governor Cuomo launched Round 8 of the Regional Economic Development Council initiative, kicking off the 2018 competition for more than $750 million in state economic development resources. The Consolidated Funding Application will open to applicants on May 1, enabling businesses, municipalities, not-for-profits and the public to begin applying for Projects. Round 8 will include up to $150 million in capital grants and up to $75 million in Excelsior Tax Credits for projects and activities identified by the Councils as regional priorities.
NYSEG President & CEO Carl Taylor announced a $400,000 economic development grant for Binghamton University this afternoon. The latest award brings the total up to $1.2 million in funding which NYSEG has granted to the university, to help support 3 projects under the company’s economic development electric infrastructure programs. The goal is to help offset electric-related infrastructure improvements as well as to research, develop and promote energy-efficient systems.
Sidney will hold it's annual Arbor Day Celebration tomorrow at the Walking Trail Pavilion in keith Clark park, beginning at 10:00 am. A tree dedication planting will be part of the activities. A limited number of young sapling trees will be distributed.

The company will construct an approximate 245,000 square-foot addition to its recently opened distribution center in Broome County Corporate Park in Conklin. The expansion will lead to the creation of additional full-time jobs, totaling more than 500 new, full-time jobs at the site over the next 5 years.

Area Schools & Universities were closed today, schedules are expected to be back to normal tomorrow. Law Enforcement Agencies remind area motorists that roads are open, but conditions remain slippery throughout the WCDO Listening area, & many accidents have been reported, Motorists are urged to travel with extreme caution.
Bassett Healthcare Network announced that they will participate in Drug Take-Back Program, collecting leftover pharmaceuticals from the public free of charge through July. Locally, O’Connor Hospital in Delhi and Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown are participating in this pilot program developed by the Product Stewardship Institute and the New York Product Stewardship Council. FoxCare Pharmacy in Oneonta will also begin collecting unused medications free of charge.
City of Norwich Police arrested 40-year-old Jay Perce for Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamines, Criminal Possession of Precursors of Meth, and Unlawful Disposal of Meth Laboratory Materials. Perce is accused of manufacturing illegal Methamphetamines using the 1 pot method; he was arraigned at Norwich City Court and sent Chenango County Jail without bail.
27-year-old Anderson Lee is now facing 40 counts of unlawful surveillance, for allegedly spying on co-workers at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown with hidden cameras. Lee is being held in the Otsego County Jail on $100,000 cash bail or $200,000 bond pending future court action.
Voters in the Gilbertsville Mount Upton District passed 2 propositions Tuesday. Voters approved of a measure to purchase a full sized school bus, and for a plan to set up a capital reserve fund for future vehicle purchase.
Governor Cuomo today announced $55 million in state grant funding has been awarded to counties statewide for enhancing emergency communications. The funding will enable local governments to expand their ability to communicate, exchange valuable data, and streamline information to first responders. More information is available at dhses.ny.gov.
State Police arrested 45 year old John Shapley from Afton, for 3rd degree Assault, after troopers responded to a Chenango County 911 report of a dispute at a home on Oak Hill Road in Afton. Shapley is accused of choking a man & grabbing his hair, which caused an injury. Shapley was arraigned in the town of Bainbridge Court and was released on his own recognizance. An order of protection was issued against him on behalf of the victim. Shapley’s next court date in the town of Afton is on February 19, 2018.
Governor Cuomo announced a 30-day budget amendment to add 36 different chemical compositions associated with Synthetic Marijuana, to the state's controlled substances list. The 36 compounds are already listed on the federal schedule of controlled substances but are only banned in certain New York State counties. Synthetic marijuana is marketed as K2, Spice, and AK-47, They contain plant material coated by chemicals, which are supposed to mimic the effects of naturally grown marijuana, making them both extremely unpredictable and potentially fatal.
State Police arrested 25 year old Nicholas Whitney of Windsor, for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and 20 year old Monica Whitney of Windsor, for Criminal Mischief. The arrests occurred after troopers responded to a Broome County 911 report of a dispute in Windsor, Both suspects were issued tickets to appear in the town of Windsor Court on February 14.
The Sidney Chamber of Commerce will hold their next meeting this morning at Trackside Dining, the meeting will begin at 7:45 AM.
