The DCMO BOCES Board of Education reviewed a proposed capital building project plan at a recent meeting on a plan for renovation of the Robert W. Harrold Campus, the Alan Pole Campus in Norwich and the purchase of the former Masonville Elementary School to house programs for students. BOCES District Superintendent Michael Rullo told WCDO News of the main reasons for the projects:

Both the renovations and the purchase of the Masonville School site are subject to voter approval on February 3rd of next year, the BOCES buildings over more than 50 years old, with the most recent renovations approved in 2005. The projects would start in March of 2027 and conclude in 2028.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies & local 1st responders were called to State Route 235 in Harpursville Wednesday night for the report of a car down an embankment with driver entrapment. The unidentified driver was extricated & taken to an area hospital, no other vehicles were involved & the cause off the accident is under investigation.

Governor Cuomo signed the "Cancer Bill” for volunteer firefighters into law late last year, and it went into effect January 1st. The gap insurance policy that volunteer fire departments are required to carry for each member will provide tax-free disability and death benefits to volunteers with 5 years of service if they're diagnosed with specific cancers covered under the new law. New York's previous law did not cover all types of cancer. There are an estimated 96,000 volunteer firefighters in New York State.

Cornwell said that the average age for opioid deaths was 40, 71% were male & 29% were female, 56% were in the city of Binghamton, while 44% were in other parts of Broome County. Cornwell said that 94% of the overdose deaths were from heroin or other opioids; 6% attributed to other drugs.

Gager was arraigned in the Town of Sidney Court and released on her own recognizance. Gager is scheduled to appear in the Town of Franklin Court at a later date.

The Village of Afton has scheduled their Christmas parade & festivities for tomorrow. Due to the current Bridge Construction, a New Parade Line up Location has been announced, on Court Street by the Afton Central School Athletic Fields, and the parking lot behind the Afton bus garage. Governor Cuomo today announced all schools in New York State have adopted plans to end "meal shaming" of students who do not have money for lunch. This is the latest success in the Governor's "No Student Goes Hungry" program, which addresses food insecurity by expanding access to free breakfast and farm-fresh foods as well as ensuring all students have access to school meals without fear of shame. The program also includes $1.5 million to expand the successful Farm-to-School program. All school plans have been posted on the schools' websites.
