Governor Cuomo today announced $1 million in funding available to law enforcement agencies to video record criminal interrogations.  The grants will be available through the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), for either the purchase and installation of video recording equipment for police departments and sheriffs' offices that have not yet implemented the practice, or allow agencies to upgrade older equipment to ensure it functions properly.  More information is available at governor.ny.gov.

44-year-old Samuel Parrotti of Lisle was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 5 years in federal prison, for 4-area bank Robberies last year.  Parrotti admitted that he stole more than $37,000 in 4 separate heists in Binghamton, Whitney Point, Scranton & Sayre in July & August of last year.


A group of people have been walking since Friday along state route 7 from Albany to Binghamton, to deliver a petition to the federal court house to judge Thomas McEvoy in Binghamton on July 23rd. the 133 mile “Journey For Justice” is sponsored by Project Salam, in support of Yassin Aref of Albany, whose supporters claim that he was entrapped through the efforts of the FBI in 2006, & convicted as a terrorist, and are seeking his release from prison.    Recently, Aref’s attorneys filed for documents through a “Freedom of Information Law” request & learned about secret evidence used to misidentified Aref as an Al-Qaeda agent. State Troopers in Oneonta arrested 35-year-old Dennis Brown of Richmond, Virginia, for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 28 in the Town of Milford; Brown was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Milford Court on August 6th.


Assemblyman Cliff Crouch will hold his 3rd forum on the New York Safe Act this Saturday; he discussed the likelihood of any more changes coming to the new law this year:

Crouch will be joined by Delaware County sheriff Tom Mills and others at the event Saturday at the Walton High School.


Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 22-year-old Nicole Curtis of Walton on a Family Court Warrant issued by County Court Judge Becker. Curtis was arraigned in Delhi Town Court and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await further court proceeding.


The Oneonta common council will hold their next regular meeting tonight.  The meeting gets underway at 7:00 PM in the 2nd floor council chambers at Oneonta City Hall.


The incidence of confirmed rabies cases of raccoons in the tri county area continues to increase.  Free rabies clinics for dogs, cats and ferrets are taking place at the Coventry Town Garage today from 5:30 to 6:30pm, Wednesday at the Morris Fire Department from 6 to 8pm and Thursday, at the New Berlin Fire Station from 7 to 8:30pm.


State Troopers arrested 49-year-old Juan Cartagena of Windsor for Driving While Intoxicated.  Cartagena refused a breath test after being pulled over during a traffic stop on State Route 11 in Kirkwood last weekend, he was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court on July 30th.

State Police investigated a tractor-trailer fire on Interstate 81 in the Town of Lisle at around 8:00 PM Monday.  Police found the vehicle engulfed in flames,  the operator was 56 year old CLARENCE PHELPS of Watertown, who pulled over & unsuccessfully attempted to extinguish the fire.  30 horses in the trailer died, the preliminary investigation indicates that the fire started after a passenger side fuel tank malfunctioned.


The 2nd annual canoe parade on the Saturday of this year’s general Clinton canoe regatta will be dedicated & named in honor of Pam LaFever this year, LaFever chaired the Clinton canoe regatta for 6 years.  Todd & Trevor Lafever commented about the honor for their mother:

The Lafever brothers will participate in the Pam Lafever Memorial canoe parade, their mother died in December of last year after a lengthy illness.


Governor Cuomo today announced $91 million in awards for shovel-ready projects to build affordable housing across the state. The funds were available through New York State Homes & Community Renewal,  Locally, in this round of funding, Lakewood Development LLC receives $3 million for The Norwich Shoe Apartments; which calls for the demolition of 4 old buildings and the new construction of 34 rental units for low-income individuals and families, 7, for persons with developmental disabilities. The development will be located adjacent to the downtown Norwich Business District.


Residents of the Sidney center fire district are urged to attend a public meeting at 7:00 PM tonight about the construction of a new fire station.  A vote on the bond will be held on Tuesday may 21st from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Sidney Center FIRE HALL.


Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a 17 year old Delhi youth for Criminal Possession of Stolen property.   The youth was spotted by Deputies riding a stolen dirt bike, he was also arrested for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, driving an Unregistered, Uninsured ATV and riding without a helmet.  The youth was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.


Millennia Entertainment & the Chenango County Fair announced that on Wednesday August 7th  at 6:30 PM, Country music star Jamie O'Neal will headline the 5th annual “Guitars Under the Stars”  show.   Tickets go on sale Friday May 17th at Hayes Office Products in Norwich, Video Entertainment Plus in Sidney and online at brownpapertickets.com.


A group of Pee Wee Wrestlers from the Bainbridge, Guilford & Afton school districts made their way to the championships at Ocean City Maryland this past weekend.  Andy Carr coached the local wrestlers, who ranged in age from 9 to 14:

Carr said that Pee Wee wrestlers from Norwich & Walton also made it to the championships in Ocean City this past weekend.
