The State of Emergency continues in New York State today, following the snow storm that dropped about a foot of snow on average across the region. School & government offices are closed, State & County Officials advise the public to not drive unnecessarily until roads are plowed, Motorists should continue to monitor local conditions and check 511NY.org for the latest travel information as cleanup operations continue.
Sidney Police Department received a complaint Thursday of an unresponsive male seated in a vehicle blocking the automatic car wash at the Mirabito gas station on West Main Street. The Sidney Police Department K9 Unit responded and made contact with the individual. During the investigation, a quantity of methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl was located inside the vehicle. Police arrested Jason Gray of Bainbridge for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Stimulant with Intent to Sell, Gray was processed and was transported to Delaware County Central Arraignment Court.
The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage as requests from hospitals exceed the available supply of blood, leading to about a 35% drawdown of blood products in the past month. The shortage is especially serious for platelets and types O, A negative and B negative blood. High flu activity in nearly every state may be sidelining donors, At the same time, hospitals already feeling the strain of the worst flu season in nearly 20 years are now also forced to triage critical blood products. The Goodyear Lake Polar Bear Jump will return to Goodyear Lake on February 21st, to raise money for area children suffering from a variety of health issues. The event has been held locally for 28 years, Last year they raised $186,000 through donations and auctions, 100% of the proceeds go directly to the children and their families. The Winter Storm dumped quite a bit of snow across the state, Governor Hochul has issued a State of Emergency, avoid any unnecessary travel until roads can be cleared. Area Schools are closed today, we will have the CDO Stormwatch throughout this morning, NYSEG reports that all power outages from yesterday have been resolved.
Broome County Sheriff's office arrested 2 Binghamton residents following a high speed pursuit through several jurisdiction Thursday. Road Patrol observed a black Jeep matching the description of a vehicle involved in multiple pursuits, it had stolen license plates, the Jeep failed to stop and traveled at a high rate of speed, the front seat passenger climbed into the back seat and began throwing objects at the patrol vehicle, The pursuit ended when police used stop sticks, Police arrested 26 year old Sean Brown of Binghamton & 24 year old Kiley Bonilla-Lattanze of Binghamton. Police seized Methamphetamine from the vehicle, they face numerous charges, Brown was also wanted on warrants from Pennsylvania, Bonilla-Lattanze was processed and released with appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court, Brown was being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility pending extradition by Pennsylvania State Police.

School district across the state are putting up their budget proposals today for public approval, many district also have School Board Seats, capital projects & School Bus Propositions up for public vote. More information is available at most school district websites for locations & duration for the voting public.
State Police arrested 4 people in connection with a case of over 100 neglected animals at a farm on Clark Lane and Pig Farm Lane in New Berlin. Arrested were 44 year old Dominick Brown, for 9 counts of aggravated cruelty to animals & 95 counts of Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance. 74 year old Jane Richards for 9 counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals & 87 counts of Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance. 56 year old Helen Goude & 60 year old Katheriena Goude, lesser counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals & Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring Animals; & Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance. On April 26th, over 2 dozen animals were located deceased and an additional 107 neglected animals were removed, including horses, pigs, cattle, sheep, goats, a llama, dogs and cats. All 4 were issued appearance tickets for New Berlin Town Court tomorrow
State Department of Labor today released preliminary local area unemployment rates for April 2024. Rates are calculated using methods prescribed by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The State's area unemployment rates rely in part on the results of the Current Population Survey, which contacts approximately 3,100 households in New York State each month. To recap last week's statewide press release, New York State's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased from 4.3% in March to 4.2% in April 2024. Locally, Chenango County had 3.4% Unemployment, Delaware County 4.1% & Otsego 3.8% in April.
Water levels are a big issue every year for the General Clinton Canoe Regatta, Local Paddler Ed Curley Told WCDO News about the usual conditions for the 70 mile race on Sunday:

The Sidney High School Flood Monitoring Team will be giving a special presentation for the public in the Smart Community Room at the Sidney Memorial Public Library on Tuesday, May 28th at 6PM. Rich Townsend was a Science Teacher at Sidney at the start of the program in 2007, & is still guiding the program, he told WCDO about donations that they have received recently & what the money will be used for:

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 25 year old Sean Gillespie of Delhi on a bench warrant for failing to appear in court to answer to a drug related charge, issued out of the Town of Delhi. On May 9th, Deputies were contacted by the City Oneonta Police Department, who advised that they who had taken Gillespie into custody, he was turned over to central arraignment processing at the Delaware County Jail to await arraignment.
FRIENDS OF THE UPPER DELAWARE RIVER & the New York City Department of Environmental Protection will hold a meeting today regarding the Delaware Aqueduct Shutdown scheduled for October 1st. The meeting will be today at 10:00 AM until 12:00 Noon at 158 East Front Street, Hancock.
2 Red Cross Blood Drives will be held today, one at the Sidney American Legion on Union Street from 1:00 to 6:00 PM, another in Cooperstown at the Bassett Hall Auditorium from 12:30 TO 6:30 P.M. Appointments can be made at 1-800 RED CROSS, REDCROSSBLOOD.ORG or with the RED CROSS BLOOD DONOR APP.

Broome County Sheriff's Fred Akshar held a press conference this afternoon into the deaths of 2 people at Village Manor Apartments on Gary Street in Windsor. Sheriff Akshar said that this was a murder & suicide, the deceased have been identified 53 year old Kent Johnson of Windsor and his former girlfriend, 47 year old Tess Savage of Binghamton. Investigators have determined that Savage went to Johnson's apartment, even though she had an order of protection against him, she died of strangulation, a few hours later, Johnson killed himself with a gun.
Norwich City Police Department responded to 90 East Main Street Monday afternoon following a complaint of Gunshots from a tenant at that location. Norwich Police Officers arrested Sean Frear for criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment & criminal mischief, Police stated that Frear was under the influence of methamphetamine when he discharged a 12-gauge shotgun into the apartment below him, he was arraigned & was being held on $5,000 cash bail pending future court action.
The Broome County Special Investigations Unit arrested 34 year old Carnel McCarden of Johnson City, police stated that McCarden dove through a glass window at 57 Miriam Street Tuesday to elude police investigators. McCarden was armed with 2 handguns, he was injured by broken glass, police searched the residence They Seized crystal methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. McCarden was charged with 3 counts of criminal possession of a weapon, 2 counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of stolen property and obstructing governmental administration, McCarden was arraigned and sent to Broome County Jail.
The Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 28 year old Paris Belton of Patersonville pleaded guilty to DWI In Masonville Town Court. Belton was charged after crashing his vehicle on State Route 8 on March 5th, Sidney Police & State Police responded, Belton had his licensed revoked, was ordered to attend a drug & alcohol evaluation, & must comply with recommendations, Belton was also charged $900 in fees & fines, and he must install an interlock device on all of his vehicles.
Several Area Fire Departments were called to the scene of a structure fire on Mary Brown Road in the town of Laurens this morning At about 9:10 AM. Firefighters from Laurens, Hartwick, Milford, West Oneonta, Morris & Oneonta have responded, The fire was called in an occupant, who reported that all other occupants escaped without injuries. Firefighters were still at the scene early this afternoon, WCDO News will have more information as it becomes available.

Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 52 year old Robin Reese of Bainbridge pleaded guilty to 2 counts of Driving While Intoxicated, in the Village of Delhi on 2 separate occasions. Reese admitted that she had a previous DWI conviction within the prior 10 years, which resulted in these charges being felonies, she was sentenced to 2 separate terms of 5-year felony probation supervision, she was also sentenced to Adult Treatment Court, she must undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation, and successfully comply with any treatment recommendations. Reese's license was revoked, and the Court imposed fines and surcharges in the amount of $4,140.00.
Broome County Sheriff's Office will hold the 1st of 4 Public Safety Town Halls, Today’s meeting at the Town of Chenango Town Hall from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. Sheriff Akshar, Undersheriff Davis and members of the Sheriff's Office team will be present to discuss issues, answer questions. The Town of Chenango Town Hall is located at 1529 State Route 12, Binghamton.
State police and local law enforcement will be stepping up patrols and targeting drug-impaired driving during an enforcement and prevention campaign on April 20, due to marijuana-oriented celebrations that take place annually on April 20. The State Police, Department of Motor Vehicles and the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee remind motorists that driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, including cannabis, is not only dangerous, it is illegal in New York State.
Cornell Cooperative Extension sponsors the Walton Farmers’ Market and would like to expand the number of produce vendors this year. The Walton Farmers’ Market will be held every Friday, July 7-September 29, from 10:00am-2:00 pm, those interested in participating as a vendor, should call 607-865-6531.

State Police And the Division of Criminal Justice Services released a Missing Vulnerable Adult Alert today. 34 year old Tatiana David from Ithaca was last seen this morning at about 7:20 AM and may have been abducted. David is described as a black woman about 5'9" tall and about 180 pounds, with black hair & brown eyes, she was last seen with 35 year old Michael David, who was driving a white Jeep Cherokee, they may be headed through this area heading for New York City. Police said that Davis is a black man, 6'4" tall about 200 pounds with black hair & brown eyes. Anyone with information is asked to call 911, or 607-561-7400.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for Tanya McGreal on an outstanding warrant, she was last known to frequent the Colesville Road area of the Town of Colesville. McGreal is a white female, 5'5" about 135 pounds, with brown hair & brown eyes, she is wanted for 3rd degree burglary. The State Comptroller's Office audited the state Department of Health, reporting that they need to make sure that they get the drug rebates that it is entitled to under federal regulations. State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli said that the largest portion of money left on the table was $109.4 million in rebates, following an error on 490,875 claims that incorrectly showed that no Medicaid payment had been made, making them ineligible for rebates, another mistake with Magellan resulted in missing out on $9.6 million in rebates.

Delaware County District Attorney Office announced that 46-year-old Justin Valk of Davenport, was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury for allegedly murdering his wife Stephanie Valk on or about July 29- August 1, 2022, in the Town of Davenport. In addition to the 2 Murder counts, Valk was charged with Reckless Endangerment & Assault. Valk will be arraigned on the Grand Jury Charges in Delaware County Court on April 10, he is being held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility.
40 year old Derek Wignall of Hancock appeared in Delaware County Court Monday and pleaded guilty to Criminal Contempt, for allegedly violating an order of protection. After arraignment, Wignall pleaded guilty to the charge, he admitted that he disobeyed the order of protection by threatening violence against the protected party, he will be sentenced to serve 6 months in the Delaware County Correctional Facility, and then 5 years of felony probation supervision. Wignall was committed to the custody of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department following his guilty plea, Sentencing is scheduled for May 15th.

Dr. Rohan Jayasena was also honored as the Citizen of the Years by the Sidney Chamber, all will be honored at the Chamber's Annual Dinner in June.
State Police And the Division of Criminal Justice Services released a Missing Vulnerable Adult Alert today. 34 year old Tatiana David from Ithaca was last seen this morning at about 7:20 AM and may have been abducted. David is described as a black woman about 5'9" tall and about 180 pounds, with black hair & brown eyes, she was last seen with 35 year old Michael David, who was driving a white Jeep Cherokee, they may be headed through this area heading for New York City. Police said that Davis is a black man, 6'4" tall about 200 pounds with black hair & brown eyes. Anyone with information is asked to call 911, or 607-561-7400.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for Tanya McGreal on an outstanding warrant, she was last known to frequent the Colesville Road area of the Town of Colesville. McGreal is a white female, 5'5" about 135 pounds, with brown hair & brown eyes, she is wanted for 3rd degree burglary. The State Comptroller's Office audited the state Department of Health, reporting that they need to make sure that they get the drug rebates that it is entitled to under federal regulations. State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli said that the largest portion of money left on the table was $109.4 million in rebates, following an error on 490,875 claims that incorrectly showed that no Medicaid payment had been made, making them ineligible for rebates, another mistake with Magellan resulted in missing out on $9.6 million in rebates.
