Sidney Police Department responded Friday Afternoon to a report of a male subject pointing a firearm at a female at the Circle Drive Apartment Complex. Officers arrested 21 year old Connor Steidle of South Carolina, a search of the residence resulted in the discovery of a large quantity of cocaine and 2 firearms, including a handgun. Steidle was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Reckless Endangerment, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, & 3 counts of Menacing. Steidle was transported to Delaware County Central Arraignment, where he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $25,000 bail. Sidney Police Department was assisted by State Police with this arrest.
State Police responded Saturday to 438 County Highway 11, Lot 30 in the town of Laurens for to assist at a fully engulfed fire. West Laurens Fire, West Oneonta Fire, Mount Vision Fire and Laurens Fire were already on scene attempting to get the fire under control. It was determined that the resident, 62 year old Roger Delong was still inside and was later located deceased. Investigators from New York State Fire and the Otsego County Office of Emergency Services responded to the location and will determine the cause of the fire.
Deposit Fire fighters, with help from surrounding fire departments responded to a blaze on North Sanford Road, early Sunday Morning. early reports suggest that occupants & pets escaped, more information will be released shortly by the Deposit Fire Department.
State Police announced today that they are taking extra actions to ensure public safety during the Holiday Season, following the weekend attack of Jewish People in Australia on the 1st day of Hanukkah. State Police will maintain a presence at religious institutions, public gatherings, shopping malls and other venues, in order to deter criminal activity & be ready with a rapid response should an concern arise. If New Yorkers see suspicious activity, call the State Terrorism hotline at 1-866-safe-nys.

Last Wednesday, Broome County Sheriff’s Road Patrol responded to the latest in a series of reported thefts of returnable cans and bottles from the BSA Troop 152 at Valley Christian Reformed Church in the Town of Chenango. A camera was installed inside the bin, investigators identified the suspect as 69 year old John Dubrava of Chenango Forks, who had previously been arrested in Chenango County in a similar case. Investigators located Dubrava and the vehicle from the thefts at a residence in Chenango Forks, he was charged with 3 Counts of Burglary & Petty Larceny.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies in the Town of Delhi and observed an E-Bike traveling on State Highway 10, which is prohibited and the operator was not wearing a helmet as required by law. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, who was identified as 51-year-old Daniel White of Meridale, White was charged with felony DWI, Unlawful Operation of an E-Bike on a Highway, Operating E-Bike while Impaired, White was released on an appearance ticket and traffic summonses and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date to answer the charges.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced more than $300 million in new state funding to support health care transformation projects across New York. The awards, made through the Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program, to support 22 projects aimed at improving health information technology by expanding patient electronic medical records, strengthening cybersecurity and patient information security, and expanding telehealth services. Locally, UHS Hospitals will receive 1.5 million dollars to expand their Telehealth services.

Stiizy is continuing to operates as a cannabis manufacturing facility in the former Acco plant, Sidney Mayor Ray Baker gave WCDO News an update:

Baker said that the companies goals are to grow the product at the Sidney Location, and once they are licensed to do so, employment could go up to between 400 & 600 employees.
The City of Oneonta is happy to announce the new 115-space public parking lot on Market Street at the site of the former parking garage, is now open to the public. The lot includes 11 spaces will be reserved for electric vehicle charging. The new stair and elevator tower in the northwest corner of the lot is also open, providing an accessible pedestrian connection to Water Street, Oneonta Public Transit began operating today out of the new Transit Center at 47 Market Street, adjacent to the new parking lot.
This is the last week for donations to area locations for the Toys for Joy program, operated by the Delaware County Business Alliance & Delaware Opportunities. The toys will be collected shortly by the Business Alliance & will be turned over to Delaware Opportunities for distribution to under-privileged children in time for Christmas.
The Sidney Chamber of Commerce announced that the Official Santa's Mailbox will be ready to take letters to Santa from area children starting this Wednesday December 3rd. The Mailboxes will be set up at Roasted Coffee House on Main Street in Sidney and at Bob's Diner in Bainbridge. The Chamber reminds parent to make sure that there is a return address, Letters must be received by December 17th.

The National Weather Service announce that there is a Winter Storm Watch, with snow anticipated from late Monday night through Tuesday evening, local meteorologist Rich Townsend explains:

Total snow accumulations of 7 inches or more is possible in the Tri County Region. Travel could be difficult with hazardous conditions impacting the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.
The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24 year old Austin Hitt of Schenevus for Arson, Burglary & Criminal Mischief, following an investigation into a reported residential fire in Schenevus. Hitt allegedly entered the residence unlawfully and intentionally set a fire inside, he was arrested and was held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility pending arraignment at Otsego County Central Arraignment and was later released.
NYSEG reported that power has been restored to the vast majority of those who lost power this morning, mostly in the town of Greene. Over 700 Customers were without power this morning.
Walgreens is recalling more than 41,000 bottles of Walgreens Saline Nasal Spray with Xylitol, due to possible Bacteria contamination. Product with expiration dates of February 28, 2027, and August 31, 2027, are suspected Customers should return the spray to the store for a full refund.

LifeNet of New York 7-8 is hosting a special event on September 27, to celebrate 15 years of service, by honoring the dedication of local first responders, partners, and community supporters who have helped make LifeNet’s mission of providing critical lifesaving care possible. Former LifeNet patients, including 16-year-old Anielle McEwan-Lomnicki, who was a trauma patient who was struck by a drunk driver while walking home from school two years ago. State Senator Peter Oberacker and Assemblyman Joe Angelino will be in attendance on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 12 pm. – 3 pm. at LifeNet of New York 7-8 base at 199 River Street, Sidney.

Live demonstrations will be conducted by the K-9 Teams, Drone Pilots, Project Lifesaver Team, and our Motor Vehicle Accident Reconstructionist, plus Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians from Delaware County Public Health will conduct a Car Seat Safety event.
