Residents
in the towns of Sanford & Windsor are banding together to try to stop
Calpine from placing 25 wind turbines in their towns.  The town of Sanford board has passed new
restrictions to limit the distance turbines can be placed from personal
property, and for the noise frequencies that they may produce.  Calpine is the same company that is also
trying to build a similar amount of wind turbines in the town of Guilford.

The
Otsego County Fair is hosting their 1st Annual Holiday of Lights at the

Delhi Village Police arrested 49-year-old Steven Witte of
Arkville for Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, Attempted Assault,
Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer and numerous traffic infractions. Witte is
accused of striking a police officer with his vehicle while fleeing the scene
of a motor vehicle accident at the McDonald’s drive through on Main Street.
Witte was arranged at the Delhi Town Court where he was remanded to the
Delaware County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail / $200,000 secured bond. The
officer struck by the fleeing vehicle was not injured.

State Police conducted an
Underage Drinking Initiative in Otsego and Chenango counties last week.  13 retail stores were checked and all of the
stores were found to be in compliance and did not sell alcohol to the underage
operative.  Among the compliant stores
were: Mirabito Quickway in Sidney & Franklin,   Snake Bite Liquors of Afton& B & W
Wines & Liquors in Bainbridge.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 58-year-old Karl
Heidenreich of Franklin for Criminal Impersonation; following a civilian report
that Heidenreich falsely pretended that he was a Police Officer.  Heidenreich was released on an appearance
ticket and is scheduled to appear at Franklin Town Court at a later date.
Delaware County Chamber of Commerce will hold their next

Delaware County Sherriff’s Deputies arrested 72 year old
Franklin Purdy of Baldwinsville Thursday for Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer
in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Speed not reasonable and prudent,
Speeding at 95 miles an hour in a 55 mile an hour zone, Moving from lane
unsafely, & driving an unregistered & uninsured motor vehicle.  Purdy was observed by Deputies on State
Highway 17 in the Town of Hancock driving at a high rate of speed, they
attempted to conduct a traffic stop, and Purdy fled & was apprehended by
Deputies in Sullivan County.  Purdy faces
additional charges in Sullivan County as well as in Delaware County; he will
appear in the Town of Hancock Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 23 year old
Thomas Conkling of Long Eddy, early this morning for Aggravated Unlicensed
Operation of a motor vehicle, driving an Unregistered & uninsured motor
vehicle, operating with switched plates, and unsafe tire. Conkling was
arraigned at the Town of Colchester Court and was released on his own
recognizance. Conkling is scheduled to appear at the Town of Hancock Court at a
later date to answer the charges.
16 year old Nicholas Pheilshifter pleaded guilty Thursday to
criminal possession of a weapon as a crime of terrorism, as a participant in
the plot against Islamberg in Delaware County.
Pheilshifter will be sentenced to 7 years in state prison, after serving
the first 2 years in juvenile detention.
Previously, Vincent Vetromile pleaded guilty to a weapons charge and
faces seven to 12 years in prison. Brian Colaneri and Andrew Crysel pleaded
guilty to terrorism-related conspiracy and face four to 12 years in prison.

The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s
assistance in trying to find 35 year old Gregory Collins, who was last seen on
June 28 in the town of Middlefield.
Collins was wearing a black baseball cap, grey jacket, black sweatpants
with black and white sneakers, anyone with information is asked to call the
Otsego County Sheriff’s Department at 547-4273.
3 Bronx Men were indicted in Otsego County Court for
allegedly grabbing an Oneonta woman off the street and threw her into a van
before demanding money from her at an ATM.
Frankie Liberata-Garcie,  Erick
Tavares, and James Semidey were arrested in May after Oneonta Police received a
report from neighbors on Watkins Avenue that claim they saw two men grab a
woman off the street and thrown into a white cargo van.  All 3 were indicted on charges of kidnapping
and robbery, and were remanded to the Otsego County Jail.
Tomorrow July 4th will be the annual "Fireworks Over

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Richard Williams
of Downsville, Saturday for Menacing and criminal trespass, for allegedly
entering a residence illegally in the Town of Colchester and, after exiting,
menacing another person with a dangerous instrument. Williams was arraigned in
the Village of Walton Court and was released on his own recognizance. Williams
is scheduled to appear at Colchester Town Court at a later date to answer the
charges.
The Otsego County Department of Solid Waste & the Arc
Otsego ReUse Center announced the opening of a polystyrene recycling facility
now available to county residents.  The
facility is located at the ReUse Center, 23 Duane Street in Oneonta.  Material must be delivered in a clear plastic
bag directly to staff.   Accepted items
include white meat trays, white cups, white take-out containers, egg cartons
& packaging used to protect electronics.

The first week of the Sidney
Central school District’s 9th annual Summer Camps begins on July 8, with
registration closing July 1.  This year
the District will offer the American Red Cross Babysitting Class for students
ages 11-15 on July 15th & 16th.  Registration for all weeks and camps can be

The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested Michael
Gincerowski Jr., of Port Crane for vehicular manslaughter, Leaving the scene of
an accident resulting in death, DWI, Aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor
vehicle, following a hit and run accident Saturday night in the Town of Fenton
that killed 16-year-old Constance Mazzarese of Owego.   The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded
to a report of a motor vehicle accident involving an SUV and a bicycle on State
Route 369 in the Town of Fenton just after 10:00 PM Saturday night, the driver
of the SUV left the scene, a State Trooper located the vehicle, disabled, about
a mile north of the collision.
Gincerowski was located at a nearby residence and was taken into custody.
Delaware County Public Health announced that a skunk in the
town of Andes has tested positive for rabies.
The rabid skunk exposed 4 dogs and 1 person.  The person exposed to the rabid skunk is
receiving rabies post exposure prophylaxis. Two of the four dogs were up to
date on their rabies vaccinations and received boosters after the
exposure.  Public Health is working with
the dog owner and Town of Andes officials to implement 6-month quarantine on
the 2 dogs that were not up to date on their rabies vaccinations.  The remaining rabies 2019 rabies clinics can

Chenango County Emergency Officials are dealing with a
number of road problems from flash flooding, following heavy downpours over the
last several days.  Norwich, Oxford,
Smithville, McDonough & Pharsalia have had numerous issues; damage was
extensive around Oxford, including the school grounds, road closures in Oxford
include Vroman Hill Road, Midland Hill Road, plus Hoben, Ryan, Brooksbank &
Bradley Hill roads.  County officials
advise that motorist turn around if they encounter flooded roads, and contact
authorities immediately.
Oneonta Authorities had to close Main Street this morning
near Fox Hospital, for a reported Natural Gas leak.  The Oneonta Fire Department & NYSEG Crews
responded after a contractor's crew member apparently hit a high pressure gas
line,  Main Street has been re-opened,
residents who were evacuated from their homes on Hudson and Otsego Street were
allowed to return to their homes, City Officials said that Roosevelt Avenue
will remain closed until further notice.
Volunteers are needed for the 2019 Chenango County Relay for
Life, which will be held July 20th in Norwich.  County residents wishing to volunteer can

Delaware County Sheriff Craig Dumond & the Delhi Fire
Department awarded local teenager Kayleigh Verspoor with The County Sheriff's
Department "Super Star" Award and the Delhi Fire Department's plaque
of recognition. On Sunday, May 26th, Verspoor rescued 2 canoeists who had
tipped over in Delta Lake in Rome while working as a counselor at Haven Camp
for disabled adults.

2 Norwich residents were arrested by the Chenango County
Sheriff’s Office for Criminal Trespass, Theft of Services, Criminal Possession
of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana.  Deputies arrested 32 year old Scott Russell
& 22 year old Brooklyn Stout after a complaint from the Norwich Inn, both
are accused of using a stolen motel key to enter one of the motel rooms, they
stayed the night and did not pay for the room.
While in custody, a search uncovered Marihuana & a controlled
substance, both were released on appearance tickets for the Town of Norwich
court at a later date.
The Chenango County Health Department will hold another free
rabies clinic Saturday, for dogs, cats & Ferrets.  The Clinic will be held at the Greene
Veterinary Clinic from 12:30 to 1:30 PM>
The Delaware County Historical Association will hold 3 Civil
War battlefield reenactments over the weekend.
The event takes place at the Delaware County Historical Association on
Saturday and Sunday,  Lunch and other
refreshments available on both Saturday and Sunday.

Chenango County Emergency
Services Responded to a number of reports for flooded roads following heavy
downpours last night & earlier this morning.  Flooded roads were reported at Butler &
State Streets in Oxford, there was washout damage to the grounds at the Oxford
School Playground, & flooding on North Broad Street in Norwich, in
Smithville at North End Road, & Chenango County Road 2 as well as County
Roads 7 & 10 in Pharsalia, County Road 7 in McDonough.  Officials remind motorists to turn around
& seek an alternate route if they encounter a road covered with water, and
to alert authorities.
Oneonta police arrested 30 year
old Alexander Coffran of Oneonta for possession of cocaine and marijuana.   Coffran was reported to police for violating
the terms of his parole by possessing drugs in his residence, at the time that
a probation office made a visit.
Coffran is being held in Otsego County Jail without bail pending future
court action.
Delaware County Sheriff’s
Deputies arrested 51-year-old Diane Dedominicis of Treadwell Tuesday for
Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle, following a traffic stop on
Griswold Street in the Village of Walton.
Dedominicis was additionally charged with Speeding, Unlicensed Operator,
and she was released on tickets returnable to Walton Village Court at a later
date.
The Delaware County Chamber of
Commerce announced that Leadership Delaware is seeking participants committed
to community service who would benefit from strengthening leadership skills and
developing a personal professional network.
The 2019 Leadership Delaware program is currently accepting applications
for its 8-month curriculum that begins in October.  Up to 20 individuals will participate in
half-day sessions, held twice monthly.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 56 year old
James Miles for Criminal Contempt & Harassment After a report of a domestic
dispute in the Town of Norwich.  Miles is
accused of violating an order of protection and subjected the female victim to
unwanted physical contact. Miles was arrested and arraigned in the Town of
Norwich Court where he was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional
Facility on $5,000 cash bail and $10,000 bond.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 25 year old
Timothy Egelston for endangering the welfare of a child, following a complaint
in the Town of New Berlin. Egelston was arraigned in the Town of Sherburne
Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash
and $2,500 bond. Egelston is to reappear in the Town of New Berlin Court at a
later date.

State Police arrested 32 year old Ramel Howard of Binghamton
for False Personation, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Aggravated
Unlicensed Operation and several lesser charges, after a trooper initiated a
traffic stop in the city of Binghamton after he spotted a vehicle that was
reported stolen in Endicott in October 2018.
Howard provided a false name, he was also found to have a warrant for a
parole violation, and He was transported to Broome County Central Processing
for arraignment.
State Police arrested 22 year old Samantha Jicha and 21 year
old Zachary Mumbulo of Middlefield, for Endangering the Welfare of a
Child.   Troopers responded to the
couple’s residence on Blacks Road with Otsego County Child Protective Services
after a hotline complaint,  Troopers
discovered loaded weapons, marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  The infant was removed from the scene and
placed in the care of a relative.  Both
Jicha and Mumbulo were released on appearance tickets.
Delaware County Public Health will hold a Free Rabies
Vaccination Clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets today from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm at

Former Oxford Academy teacher's assistant Heaven
Parrish of Smithville Flats pleaded guilty to 2nd degree attempted rape this
week.  Parrish was accused of having a
sexual relationship with an under aged male student, she will have to register
as a sex offender & faces court action again on June 14th in Chenango
County Court.

A Delaware County Grand Jury handed down a Seal
Indictment Thursday relating to a narcotics trafficking investigation in the
Hancock area. Deputies arrested 39 year-old Wilbur Tyrrell, of Starlight,
Pennsylvania, on the Sealed Indictment Arrest Warrant as he attempted to flee,
on foot, across the bridge from the Village of Hancock into the State of
Pennsylvania. The Grand Jury accused Tyrrell of 3 counts of Criminal Sale of a
Controlled Substance, for allegedly selling Methamphetamines & Xanax, he
was also charged with Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental
Administration.
The Director of the Delaware County Office for the
Aging, Wayne Shepard announced that he will retire on August 21st after serving
8 years with the agency. A new director is expected to be appointed shortly.

"Bagels and Benefits” Otsego County Chamber Membership Orientation at the
Chamber offices at 189 Main Street on the 5th floor.    The orientations are Free & open to new

The Delaware County Relay For life event held last weekend
at the fairgrounds in Walton raised almost $42,000 for the American Cancer
Society.  The Tri Town Relay For Life
will be held on June 7th at General Clinton Park in Bainbridge, starting at
6:00 PM.
State Police arrested 26 year old Alexander Donenko of Lisle
for Criminal Mischief, Criminal Trespass, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and
Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.   A
trooper was dispatched to the Broome County Fairgrounds in Whitney Point for
the report of a Pick-up truck ripping up the lawn.  Donenko was arrested the following day &
was found to be in possession of a small quantity of marijuana, a suspended
license and an active bench warrant with the city of Binghamton Police
Department, he was processed and will be appearing in the town of Triangle
Court on May 14th, & he was turned over to the Binghamton Police
Department.
The Oneonta Municipal Civil
Service Commission announced open-competitive exams 2 jobs to be held on June 1st.  The open positions are Library Clerk &
Water and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator / Operator Trainee.  Application deadlines are May 22nd;

The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce will hold their Annual
Diner & Celebration of Business today at the Foothills Performing Arts
Center.  The Chamber will honor Les

The Chenango County Health Department announced that the
