Chobani is hosting its 6th annual Community Giveaway at the Chenango County Fairgrounds in Norwich to show appreciation to the Central New York region.  This year’s event moved to a larger venue due to the Coronavirus. All the fun takes place with Chobani on Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon while supplies last. Every December, the company hands out 5,000 free cases of Chobani products as a thank you gift to local residents.
Chenango County Public Health announced that they had 652 COVID 19 cases since March, with 51 Active Cases, 268 Quarantines & 4 Hospitalizations. there have been 11 deaths, 588 recoveries & over 45,700 tests performed.
Broome County Health Department announced that they had 106 more COVID 19 positive cases Friday, bringing their total up to 5596 since the Spring, they have 622 active cases, with 30 hospitalized, there were 4 more deaths, their death toll is up to 140, over 4200 are being monitored by the Health Department.

State Police issued 1,779 tickets during this year's Operation Hardhat, an initiative between State Police, the State Department of Transportation and others, to crack down on work zone violations and highlight the importance of safe driving when encountering construction, maintenance and emergency operations along state highways.   The number of violations issued was 69.8% Higher than the 2019 Operation Hard Hat.
Otsego County Department of Health reported 16 new cases of COVID 19 on Thursday, the county has had 1356 total confirmed cases, they report 91 active cases with 10 hospitalized, and there have been 8 deaths.
The 24th Annual Delaware County Clean Sweep began today & continues Saturday.  Farms, businesses & local governments will bring their hazardous materials for collection Friday at their designated times, households that have registered will bring their hazardous items Saturday.

Chenango County Public Health announced that they have had 206 total confirmed cases of COVID 19 since March, with 162 Active Quarantines, 1 current Hospitalization, 7 deaths, and over 16,200 Tests have been performed.
The Arc Otsego presented Golden Artist Colors as 1 of the statewide recipients of The Arc New York 2020 Employer Recognition Award. Otsego County Department of Health announced that they will have a testing site today from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, at the Exeter Town Barn on State Highway 28 in Schuyler Lake.  The testing site is limited to people who are NOT sick, but want to be tested for the Coronavirus, The testing will be by a nasal swab.  The testing site will be drive up only, individuals are required to stay in their vehicle & wear a face mask.  Pre-Registration is required at 547-4279.
Delaware County received no new positive test results for COVID-19 Thursday and 1 additional recovery, the known active cases is 4. To date there have been 94 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County, with 37 people under mandatory quarantine and 1 person under precautionary quarantine, 4 people are isolated at home and no one is hospitalized, 6 people have died and 84 have fully recovered.

Gabriel Truitt of Oneonta was sentenced to life in prison without parole in Otsego County Court this morning.  Truitt was convicted earlier this year on charges of 1st & 2nd degree murder plus arson, for setting a fire at Walling Avenue in Oneonta, former Oneonta Firefighter John Heller died in the fire while helping to evacuate people from the burning building.
Chenango County Public Health announced their latest Coronavirus Numbers today, they have had a total of 178 confirmed cases, 131 are quarantined, no one is hospitalized, there have been 6 deaths, 149 recoveries and over 13,800 tests have been performed.
Employees at UHS Primary Care Norwich coordinated a food and personal care product drive at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital and its outpatient office locations, in order to donate the items to the Catholic Charities Roots & Wings program.    Items such as diapers, formula and hygiene products were donated, 5 collection bins with over 80 items were donated & were distributed to those in need.

State Police identified the 2 women who died after a one-vehicle crash in the town of Pittsfield Wednesday as 21 year old Tehya Gonzalez of Bainbridge and 21 year old Cheyenn Aubry of Treadwell.  The driver is a 26-year-old male who is facing criminal charges; his name will be released after he is formally charged.   Police responded early Wednesday to a report of a vehicle that went off of County Route 13 in the town of Pittsfield.
Otsego County Department of Health announced 4 new cases with 2 people hospitalized, there have been 85 total confirmed cases, with 7 active cases, 73 have recovered, there have been 5 deaths, and 41 people are on quarantine & 35 individuals being monitored after travel from a state with high incidence of infection

A traffic-stop by Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies on May 30th resulted in 24 year old Garrett Gascon of Sidney being arrested on State Highway 10 in the Town of Walton.  Deputies discovered that Gascon's driving privileges were suspended for failure to answer summonses in Chenango and Otsego Counties & he was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding & will appear in the Walton Town Court on a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 68 year old Thomas Lima of Franklin after they responded to a harassment complaint in the Town of Franklin on May 27th.  Lima allegedly made contact with, and harassed, a protected party for whom an order of protection was issued by the Delaware County Family Court, Deputies arrested Lima for harassment & criminal contempt, during processing at the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, Lima is accused of spitting on and attempting to trip Deputies, he was additionally charged with obstructing governmental administration & attempted assault on a police officer.  Lima was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on cash bail, pending future appearances in the Town of Franklin and Delhi Courts.
Chenango County Public Health announced that they are up to 133 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus since early March.  1 patient is currently hospitalized, 106 are quarantined, there have been 98 recoveries & 5 deaths, over 4900 tests have been performed.
The Broome County Health Department announced that they have had 583 positive cases of the Coronavirus since Early March.  There have been 45 deaths, 431 recoveries, 320 patients are being monitored by the Health Department, and they have conducted over 13,700 tests.
The Walton Central School District Board of education announced that they have appointed Michael MacDonald as the new Superintendent, starting on July 1st.  MacDonald will succeed interim Superintendent Larry Thomas; MacDonald started his education career as a Special Ed Teacher in Walton in the early 90's

Cornell Cooperative Extension, Catholic Charities, the SUNY Morrisville Norwich Campus will be holding dairy and ag product drive-thru event today at the Chenango County Fairgrounds.  A variety of dairy products, including Chobani yogurt, will be donated to those families in-need beginning at 2:00 p.m. until supplies are gone.

Chenango County Health officials announced Wednesday that they are now up to 53 confirmed Coronavirus cases.  7 people are hospitalized, 7 have recovered, 67 are in precautionary Quarantine, and 327 are in Mandatory quarantine.
The Otsego County Department of Health had 38 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus Wednesday, 4 are hospitalized, 9 have recovered & there has been 1 death.   113 people are in mandatory quarantine, 2 people on precautionary quarantine, 43 people have been released from quarantine.

The New York State Fair will be five days longer this year, if the fair isn't canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.  The state budget includes a total of $5 million to extend the fair and continue repair and rehabilitation of the fair's facilities to allow for year-round operation of the fairgrounds.  The five-day extension will push the first day of the fair up to Friday, August 21.

Cornell University economists predict that the Coronavirus could be even more devastating to the Dairy industry than the 2009 recession.

Delaware County meeting will continue today, by teleconferencing.  The Department of Public Works Committee will meet via conference call at 8:45 AM, The Delaware County Finance Committee will meet via conference call at 10:30 AM, and The Delaware County Board of Supervisors will hold its regular meeting at 1:00 p.m. by teleconference as part of the County's COVID-19 response plan.  All business conducted by the Board of Supervisors will be recorded for the public and a full transcript will be made available on the county’s webpage.
