The Spiedie Fest has made some changes to their schedule due to the weather forecast. Spiedie Fest had decided to move the meet and greet with WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle and concert featuring John Waite and Tommy DeCarlo to the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena. The remainder of Friday’s festival and activities will go on as planned at Otsiningo Park. The events will still take place at their scheduled times. The meet and greet with Kurt Angle will be from 3 to 6 p.m. John Waite will perform at 6 p.m., followed by Tommy DeCarlo at 7:30 p.m.


State Police reported that 2 pedestrians that were struck by a vehicle in the town of Middletown Wednesday. State Police stated that 68 year old John Guidice & 67 year old Joyce Guidice, both of Middletown, were struck by a vehicle while on the shoulder of New Kingston Road, the vehicle did not stop, Numerous lifesaving measures were performed & Joyce was pronounced dead at the scene, John was taken to Margaretville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A vehicle with front end damage was located & a 70 year old man from Staten Island was being interviewed by Investigators. The investigation is on-going. More will be released once it is available.


Attorney General Letitia James and DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced a settlement with FrieslandCampina Ingredients North America, Inc. in Delhi over numerous violations of state and federal environmental laws. The Delhi manufacturing facility was emitting dangerous air and water pollution into the surrounding community, putting public health at risk. The agreement with Federal & State Agencies requires Friesland to come into full compliance with environmental protection laws and pay a penalty of $2.88 million. New York will receive $1.44 million to fund projects that benefit public health and the environment in the Delhi area.


4 people have been arrested after the discovery of multiple illegal items in Binghamton. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force, along with the Binghamton Police Department Community Response Team and Patrol Division executed a search warrant Tuesday at 35 Baxter Street, Officers seized weapons, $3,540 in suspected drug proceeds, Oxycontin and items used for packaging and weighing narcotics. Arrested were 47 year old Jaime Marte-Viera, 27 year old Juan Genao, 20 year old Sincere Pryor and 32 year old Tyron Howell on a variety of Drug & Weapons Charges, all face court action shortly.


The State Comptroller's Office reported that local government sales tax collections in New York state totaled $5.7 billion in the 2nd quarter of 2023, an increase of 3%, compared to the same period last year. 2nd quarter growth was lower that the 1st quarter, due to a steep drop in gas prices, sales tax collections on motor fuels decreasing by -19% year over year.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently looking for Nicholas Wood on an outstanding warrant and asking the residents of Broome County for assistance. State Police announced today that a Davenport man who was reported missing since December 26th, has been found safe. Troopers searched for 78 year old Theodore Sikora of Davenport daily after receiving a report to check on his welfare. Troopers searched his home and the area surrounding it, local stores, hospitals and with relatives and friends, they thanked to public for the tips they received during the investigation.


The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 34 year old Bradley Law of Harpursville in connection with a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident involving a pickup truck fatally striking Brennan Loveless on a bicycle on State Route 7 in the Town of Colesville on Sunday at 5:30pm. Law was charged with Criminally Negligent homicide & leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident, he was taken to Broome County Central Processing last night & was remanded to the Broome County Jail Without Bail. Loveless was a student at the Harpursville Central School District, where their Crisis Response Team will be available for grieving students.


The Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Nicholas Visser of Port Crane for 3rd degree Burglary, 3rd degree Grand Larceny & Conspiracy, following an investigation of a reported Burglary in the Town of Greene. Visser & 2 unknown male suspects allegedly entered a building on private property & stole nearly $40,000 in property, most of the stolen property was recovered at Visser's property in the Town of Port Crane. Visser was processed and released on an appearance ticket. Visser is to appear in the Town of Greene Court at a later date. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted with the incident by the Broome County Sheriff's Office.


The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 29 year old Ryan Chesebro of Edmeston following a traffic stop on December 26th in the Town of Burlington. Chesebro was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a motor vehicle for allegedly operating a motor vehicle on a public highway with a suspended license, he was issued appearance tickets for Burlington Town Court at a later date.


The Norwich Firefighters Association announced a record breaking year for Norwich Firefighters. In 2022 the Norwich Fire Department had the highest number of calls, with 3,383, breaking the record set the year before when they answered 3,283 calls.

Governor Kathy Hochul Signed a bill Saturday that legalized natural organic reduction, also known as human composting. New York becomes the 6th state to give New Yorkers access to an alternative, green method of burial deemed environmentally friendly. The bill states that the remains must be delivered to a cemetery corporation certified as an organic reduction facility, suitably contained and ventilated, the deceased is placed into a reusable, semi-open vessel containing suitable bedding such as wood chips, alfalfa or straw, which is deemed ideal for microbes to work. At the end of the process, a heaped cubic yard of soil, equivalent to 36 bags of soil is produced, which can be used as fertilizer.

The Broome County Special Investigation Unit Task Force executed a search warrant in Port Crane, which resulted in the arrests of 31-year-old Brett Poyer & 30 year old Jodi Bickos. Officers seized 2.2lbs of methamphetamine, packaging materials, and paraphernalia at the residence, Poyer and Bickos were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Criminally using Drug Paraphernalia, they face court action shortly.
State Assembly Republicans released the findings of a Domestic Violence Task Force, that conducted 5 meetings on the domestic violence crisis issue, Assemblyman Cliff Crouch comments:

The Assembly Minority Conference will introduce a package of bills this session to address the issues facing victims of domestic violence and their families.
State Senator Fred Akshar will continue with his "Akshar's All-Stars" student recognition program Thursday at the Greene High School as well as the Union-Endicott High School & the Owego Free Academy. Each month, Senator Akshar recognizes three or four local students selected by their school districts in the 52nd Senate District who have shown great leadership, compassion, & school spirit. Akshar will appear at the Greene High School at 12:15PM Thursday.
The Tri-Town Coalition On Substance Abuse Prevention will hold their next meeting at the Sidney High School Library on Wednesday, January 31st from 6:00 to 7:30 PM. Topics of discussion will be the "Truth Pharm” Parental Education Program, a Review of the "Chasing the Dragon" documentary & planning for the 2018 year.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office has completed its investigation of Monday's fatal fire at 553 German Hollow Road in the Town of Plymouth. Investigators have determined the fire started in the area of a wood stove being used to heat the residence. It was also determined from autopsies that Debbie Pfeiffer, Amber Morrow and Benjamin Pfeiffer all died from smoke inhalation.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 22 year old Nicholas Corrao of Stamford on 1 count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child following a report of child abuse in the village of Stamford. Deputies allege that Corrao acted in a manner which was injurious to the mental and moral welfare of a child less than 17 years of age. Corrao was issued an appearance ticket and is scheduled to reappear at the Town of Stamford court at a later date.
The State Labor Department released local unemployment rates for the month of December. Locally, Chenango County was up to 5.8%, Delaware County had 5.7% unemployment & Otsego County had 5.2% unemployment, the state rate was at 4.4% for December.
The Unatego School District Board of Education is holding a special vote today from 12:00 noon to 8:00 PM, in the Unatego Middle/High School building in Wells Bridge. Eligible voters in the Unatego district will vote on the leasing of 3 large and 1 small passenger school buses.

The New York safe gun law goes into effect today.   Those who own firearms that have been reclassified, as “assault weapons” need to register those weapons starting today. The state's gun owners are also required to limit the ammunition in magazines to seven bullets except at competitions or firing ranges.  The State Police will post forms online for new gun registrations, which are required by August 15th of 2014.


The Chenango County Sheriff’s Department arrested Nicholas Simonds of OXFORD FOR CRIMINAL POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, CRIMINAL POSSESSION OF A HYPODERMIC INSTRUMENT, and UNLAWFUL POSSESSION OF MARIHUANA AND CRIMINAL POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE NOT IN ITS ORIGINAL CONTAINER.  Simonds was arrested following a ROAD CHECK ON COUNTY Road 32 IN THE TOWN OF OXFORD, he WAS ISSUED AN APPEARANCE TICKET For THE TOWN OF OXFORD COURT AT A LATER DATE.


State lawmakers completed an on time budget that kept state spending a 0% growth for the 3rd straight year, area assemblyman Pete Lopez said that Governor Cuomo put social issues in the budget, but left out items that help his constituents:

Lopez said that about 25% of the calls to his office still have to do with the 2011 hurricanes that devastated a huge portion of his assembly district.


THE CHENANGO COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE arrested 25 year old Gary Conklin of Smithville for 2nd degree HARASSMENT 2ND.  Conklin was wanted on an ACTIVE ARREST WARRANT in connection with a DOMESTIC DISPUTE in April.  CONKLIN WAS ARRAIGNED IN THE TOWN OF SMITHVILLE COURT AND WAS RELEASED ON $250 cash BAIL pending future court action.


Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 25-year-old Cole Wood of Hamden on a criminal summons for 2nd degree menacing and endangering the Welfare of a Child.  Wood is alleged to have committed the offenses on March 21st during a domestic incident in the Town of Hamden, he was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear today in the Town of Hamden Court to answer the charges.

The American Red Cross will host 3 blood drives in Sidney this week.  The first will be on Tuesday from 11:30 to 4:30 at the Sidney fire hall, the 2nd will be on Thursday at Tri-Town Regional Hospital from 10:00 till 2:00, and the 3rd will be on Saturday at Saint Luke’s church from 1:30 to 6:30 PM.  More information is available at 1-800-red cross or at Red Cross blood.org.


Delaware County Deputies investigated a 1car property damage auto accident on State route 28 in the Town of Meredith. 25-year-old Beth Donlin of Otego lost control of her vehicle on state route 28 due to excessive speed, she left the roadway and struck a ditch. Donlin was charged with speed unreasonable and prudent, plus leaving the scene of a property damage accident, she will appear in Town of Meredith Court at a later date.
