U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling for existing rural broadband funding to be spent as millions of families continue to adjust to a new normal of online learning, work, and health care due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Gillibrand is calling on the Trump administration to spend the allocated money now as thousands of Rural New Yorkers still have poor broadband internet service or no service at all.


Governor Cuomo along with Governor Ned Lamont of Connecticut & Phil Murphy of New Jersey, are considering adopting a mandatory quarantine for visitors from states with increases in their Coronavirus Numbers.  New York State has the lowest rate of infection at .77, and less than 1% of people tested have the virus, both are the lowest numbers of all 50 states.  In the beginning of the pandemic, states like Florida required New York Visitors to quarantine for 2 weeks, now Florida, along with Texas, Arizona and 19 other states have registered their highest numbers for Coronavirus cases in recent weeks.


Chenango County Public Health announced that they have 140 total confirmed cases, with 23 people quarantined, no one is hospitalized, 131 have recovered, there have been 6 deaths, and over 9300 tests have been conducted.


Bassett Healthcare Network will partially lift visitation restrictions at their hospital locations this week.  Bassett’s hospital locations will begin permitting 1 visitor at a time per admitted patient between the hours of 12:00 noon and 8:00 PM daily, starting tomorrow except for O’Connor Hospital, which has already started allowing visitors. All people who enter buildings must wear a mask and participate in screening procedures, including temperature checks and a brief questionnaire. Commerce Chenango will present their next webinar regarding the potential Phase 4 Reopening this Thursday at 3:30 p.m.   Presenters include Commerce Chenango President & CEO Kerri Green, members of the Chenango County Health Department, and Chenango County Emergency Services Manager Matt Beckwith & Jessica Moquin of the Chenango County Historical Society.  Preregistration is required by emailing register@chenangony.org.

Primary voting is being held today across New York State.  All Chenango County Voters will vote Today at the Chenango County Sheriff's Office in the town of Norwich, while Otsego, Delaware & Broome counties have cut back on the number of polling places, the information can be found on the county websites, or by calling Broome County Board of Elections: 778-2172, Delaware County Board of Elections: 832-5321 or the Otsego County Board of Elections: 547-4247


Otsego County Department of Health announced 1 New case of the Coronavirus Monday, they now have 74 total confirmed cases, no one is hospitalized, 65 have recovered, there have been 5 deaths, 26 people are quarantined, 314 people released from quarantine, they have conducted 4,754 tests.


Delaware County is reporting no new case of COVID-19, To date there have been 81 confirmed positive cases, 9 people are quarantined,  1 person is in the hospital, 2 are isolated at home, 5 people have died and 73 have fully recovered.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 20-year-old Noah Shambaugh of Oneonta Sunday in relation to a domestic dispute earlier this year.   On March 30th, Deputies responded to a domestic dispute in the Town of Delhi, The complaint was referred to Delaware County Court for further action and Deputies received a criminal summons and order of protection, Shambaugh was located in the City of Oneonta Sunday where he was arrested & was directed to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

The State Health Department announced that they now have over 345,000 positive Coronavirus cases, with another 2762 positive tests Thursday.  Hospitalizations were down to about 6500, there were 132 deaths, bringing the state death toll to 22,304 since March.


Today is day one of the Phase 1 of re-opening of many types of businesses following the shutdown during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic in March.  Kerri Green of Commerce Chenango said that many businesses will have to change the way they operate on many levels from this point on:

Glen Nealis of Delaware County Economic Development said that one of the reasons this part of the state is part of the Phase 1 Re-Opening is that people & businesses took the warnings seriously:

Nealis said that the hardest part of the reopening of the state is the 4th phase, which would be the opening of businesses that rely on a large gathering of people, where social distancing is difficult.  Business can find out where they fit in, and how the 1st phase is going by logging onto forward.ny.gov.


State officials are hoping that the New York Congressional Delegation convinces the US Senate & President Trump to finally send state aid to the struggling states that have lost revenue from the shutdown after the arrival of the Coronavirus Pandemic, State budget Director Robert Mujica comments:

This year’s State Budget started out with a 7 Billion Dollar deficit, which has more than doubled in the current fiscal year from the shutdown and the payment of state taxes out to July 15th.


Governor Cuomo, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont, and Delaware Governor John Carney today announced a multi-state agreement to reopen public and private beaches with certain restrictions soon; Governor Cuomo discussed those restrictions earlier today:

The Beaches will open Friday, May 22 in time for the Memorial Day Weekend, statistics gathered will determine the further opening of beaches later this summer.

Chenango County Public Health announced today that they had no new cases of the Coronavirus Thursday, they have 112 total cases so far, with 4 deaths, 81 recoveries, 4 people are hospitalized, 41 are quarantined, and they have performed over 1700 tests.


Broome County Health Department announced today that they are up to 395 positive Coronavirus tests; they have 282 recoveries, 28 deaths, & 282 patients being monitored by the Health Department.

The State Health Department reported over 2300 new Coronavirus cases state wide Thursday, bringing the state total to 343,051.  Another 157 people died Wednesday from the virus; about 7000 people are still hospitalized.


The State Health department continues to monitor 105 cases in children ranging from 1 year old to 21 years old, who test positive for the Coronavirus, but presented with a different set of symptoms from adults, featuring inflamed blood vessels & inflammation of the heart, but without lung issues.  3 children have died, the state Health department is sharing their findings, 6 countries & 16 other states are no looking into similar issues among children & the virus.


Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a domestic dispute in the Town of Delhi. While conducting interviews of the individuals involved, Deputies noted an odor of marijuana in the residence, they discovered & seized marihuana plants and about an ounce of processed marihuana, they arrested 45-year old Colby Loveless of Delhi for unlawfully cultivating marijuana and unlawful possession of marijuana, Loveless was later released on appearance tickets for Delhi Town Court at a later date.


State Police arrested 26 year old Eugene Buzie of Oneonta for Menacing, after Troopers were dispatched to a domestic dispute at a residence on County Highway 48 in the town of Otego. Buzie allegedly threatened a victim with a knife during an argument; he was located near Lantern Hill Trailer Park and arrested.  He was arraigned virtually and released on his own recognizance.  An order of protection was issued by the judge to the victim.  Buzie is scheduled to appear in the town of Otego court on June 18, 2020.


Delaware County Public Health received no positive lab reports for COVID-19 Thursday, they still have 63 Positive Results,  51 have recovered, 5 are Isolating at Home, 3 are Hospitalized, 4 have Died from the virus, 12 are in Mandatory Quarantine.


State Police arrested 62 year old Ronald Bronson of West Winfield for the Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring Animals and Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance.   Bronson told troopers that his cows were running from the dog in the pasture, he fired a shot, missing the dog, it ran off, he located the dog and allegedly shot it a 2nd time, killing it.  Bronson was issued appearance tickets to the town of Plainfield court on September 2nd.

Governor Cuomo announced today that the state has over 195,000 cases of the Coronavirus, there are still 18,825 people hospitalized, and 671 people died Easter Sunday, bring the state total up to 10,056.  Cuomo said that he will be coordinating with surrounding states regarding when & how to re-open the economy:

Governor Cuomo said that each states economic development experts & Health Department experts will form a coalition to study how other countries rebounded after the Coronavirus, and how to enact a successful Re-Opening plan that in each of the Northeast States at the same time, at the most prudent.


U.S Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced today that she is sponsoring a provision in the next Coronavirus relief bill to help out the struggling farmers across the state:

Senator Gillibrand said that Farmers have been ignored in the previous Coronavirus stimulus bills, at time when they are suffering their worst outcomes since the 2008 Recession, with the Coronavirus.


The Village of Sidney Board of Trustees announced that they are cancelling the board meeting & public hearings scheduled for tonight.  A new date will be announced shortly. Also, the Shade Tree Committee has decided to cancel the Arbor Day Celebration held on Friday, April 24th, 2020 due to health concerns related to COVID-19, commonly called coronavirus.

Governor Cuomo announced that the State has over 180,000 cases of the Coronavirus, they have reported well over 9,385 deaths so far. The Governor also said that he will be working with neighboring states & local Governments on coordinating plans to re-open the economy, when the time is right:

Governor Cuomo also said that no plans have been made yet regarding the re-opening of schools that idea will be discussed on April 29th, and will be dependent on the state Health Department numbers.


There are 48 confirmed positive cases of the Coronavirus in Delaware County, 3 people are deceased and 12 have recovered, 5 positive cases were transferred back to their home county, 4 are in a hospital, 23 are isolated at home.


The Otsego County Department of Health has 43 confirmed cases, there have been 2 deaths, 6 were hospitalized, 16 have recovered, 78 people were on quarantine, and 77 have been released from quarantine.


The Broome County Health Department is up to 133 have positive Coronavirus cases, there are now 7 deaths in Broome County 248 are quarantined & 26 people have recovered.


Chenango County announced their current Coronavirus numbers this afternoon, they have 65 positive cases, 10 Hospitalizations, 21 Recoveries, and there are 257 people under quarantine.


Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 65 year old Jack Burgess of Davenport for allegedly making inappropriate advances toward a female under the age of 16 through text and social media communications.   Burgess was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, he was arraigned by a remote, virtual appearance on Friday, he was released pending future court action & an Order of Protection was issued for the victim.


Due to the Coronavirus situation, The Village of Afton will be conducting their monthly board meeting through Zoom, the next meeting tonight at 7:00 PM.

State Police arrested 27 year old Brandon Parry of Sherburne
Wednesday for the felony of Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors and
Endangering the Welfare of a Child.
Parry is employed as a police officer with the Village of Sidney Police
Department, he is accused of sending indecent messages and pictures to a minor,
and he was arraigned in the village of Sidney Court where he was released on
his own recognizance pending court action on May 4th.  An order of protection was issued to the
victim by the judge.  The investigation
is continuing.

approached 2400 yesterday; Governor Cuomo said today that equipment for
hospitals is crucial:

Cuomo said that a Navy Hospital ship will be deployed near
New York City, adding 1000 beds quickly for the growing need for increased
capacity.

Reynolds said that while SFCU has closed their lobbies to
protect staff & Members, The hours have been extended at their Drive

A Joint Statement has been released by State Senator Fred
Akshar and Assemblyman Cliff Crouch on misleading mail sent by Assembly
Candidate Nick Libous.  Akshar &
Crouch took exception to mailing by Libous where both men are in pictures with
him, giving the illusion that they are backing his attempt to win election to
Assemblyman Crouch's seat that he will be retiring from at the end of the
year.  Akshar & Crouch said that they
do not support the Libous candidacy & they both endorse former police
chief, Fireman & Military combat veteran Joe Angelino for the Assembly
Seat.


22nd District Congressman Anthony Brindisi announced that he
is holding a COVID19 telephone town hall with Upstate health experts this
afternoon to answer questions about the coronavirus.  The event begins at 5:30 & the number is

Anthony Brindisi says he is in self-quarantine after coming in contact with
another representative who has tested positive for COVID-19.   Brindisi also announced that he came in
contact with Utah Congressman Ben McAdams, who tested positive for the disease,
Brindisi will self-quarantine at home until March 27th, and he said that he is
not exhibiting any symptoms associated with COVID-19.


Chenango County Health
Department confirmed today that they have a 2nd positive test for the
coronavirus of a County resident.
Officials said that the 2 cases are in quarantine currently, they cannot
release the location of the 2 patients.

Governor Cuomo, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont today announced Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf
is joining their coalition to implement a regional approach to combatting
COVID-19.  The 4 governors announced
indoor portions of retail shopping malls, amusement parks and bowling alleys in
the 4 states will close by 8:00 PM Tonight, which is an expansion of the guidance
issued Monday.


Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond announced that
uninterrupted law enforcement services will continue, however he advises that
if anyone is experiencing an emergency, call 911, but make sure that
dispatchers are advised if any members of your household are experiencing
flu-like symptoms, in order to protect all 1st responders, who can then respond
correctly to the situation which can help prepare to prevent the spread of any
illnesses or future quarantine of law enforcement members.


SUNY Broome's campus remains open; there will be no
on-campus classes today & Friday while staff prepares to work
remotely.   Some labs and hands-on
classes that are scheduled to still meet on campus will resume on Monday, all
other classes will continue to be delivered in a distance education format,

Governor Cuomo signed an executive order temporarily
modifying election procedures to help reduce the spread of the
coronavirus.  The order suspends the
candidate petitioning process for the June primaries for Congressional, State
Senate, State Assembly and Judicial races, it also modifies the signature
requirements for ballot access; & modifies deadlines and procedures
regarding absentee voting.


Governor Cuomo announced 221 new cases of COVID-19 in New
York, bringing the statewide total to 950, 1 New York City Department of
Corrections officer has died from the Coronavirus, bring the state death count
to 4.  The governor also announced a
tri-state effort to curb the spread of the virus.  Cuomo, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy and
Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont today announced that they will limit crowd
capacity for social and recreational gatherings to 50 people, also restaurants
and bars will close for on premise service and will have take-out and delivery services
only, they also will be provided a waiver for carry-out alcohol.   The 3 governors will temporarily close movie
theaters, gyms and casinos, all of these restrictions go into effect at 8:00 PM
tonight.


Bassett Healthcare announced that their network is gearing
up to take on the Coronavirus issue, which is something that is larger than
anything they have dealt with before according to Dr. William Streck:

Bassett Hospital has launched a hotline for people who have
questions or concerns about Coronavirus.
The number is 547-5555; it will provide patients with up-to-date
information 24/7 on the Coronavirus and tell patients what to do if they are
concerned they are showing symptoms.


State lawmakers are still in Albany this week, trying to
wrap up the State budget early, Assemblyman Cliff Crouch Comments:

2 members of the State Assembly, Helene Weinstein &
Charles Barron, both of Brooklyn, have tested positive for the
Coronavirus.  The state Capital will be
closed to visitors & all legislative buildings will be vigorously cleaned.


19th District Congressman Antonio Delgado announced today
that he will have to close his offices in Washington DC and in his home
district.  Public meeting & Town
Halls will also be postponed.  More information

State Senator Fred Akshar announced that he is postponing
his March 18th Town Hall Meeting in Vestal. Decisions will be made regarding
other public meetings at a later date.


The Town of Unadilla announced that they are closing the
Town Hall until further notice due to the Coronavirus situation.  All court session are cancelled, any court
payments can be made online, can be mailed or put in the drop box outside, Dog
License & Handicapped applications can be mailed, the date for Dog
Enumeration will be extended until the end of Aprils, and Tax payments may be

The Sidney Town Clerk's office announced that they will be
closed to the public for 2 weeks due to the ongoing COVID-19 concerns.  Town Clerk Sheila Paul announced that she
will continue to work, all payments, dog licenses, handicap placard
applications, and any other services needed from the Town Clerk’s Office may be

The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum announced that
they are closed to the public, in accordance with recommendations by the CDC to
limit opportunities for large gatherings and the further spread of the COVID-19
virus. The Hall of Fame will provide updated information regarding this closure
on each subsequent Sunday, at baseballhall.org and by social media
channels.  As a precautionary measure due
to the COVID-19 virus, our 2020 Hall of Fame Classic Weekend events have been
canceled.


The State DEC announced that the
statewide ban prohibiting residential brush burning begins today and runs
through May 14th, as conditions for wildfires are heightened in
springtime.  When temperatures are warmer
and the past fall's debris and leaves dry out, wildfires can start and spread

Governor Cuomo announced that the statewide total of coronavirus
cases has increased to 729, and 3 deaths have been confirmed.  The deaths were an 88 year old woman in
Brooklyn with emphysema, and a 65 year old man with many health problems &
a 79 year old female with many serious illnesses.  Governor Cuomo said that they are working on
a plan regarding schools; he said that closing all schools brings up other

Cuomo said that they are working to increase testing for the
Corona Virus rapidly, they are trying to convince more businesses to have
employees work from home, and they are trying to increase hospital capabilities
rapidly.


Delaware County Officials have declared a State of Emergency
effective through Monday April 13, 2020.
The order calls for the suspension of all classroom and extracurricular
functions at all public schools, except for administrative and staff functions,
the Order shall take effect Wednesday, March 18th & will remain in effect
until April 14th.  Also, the Delaware
County Office for the Aging Senior Meal sites and Senior Transit have stopped
operations until April 14th.


Chenango County Officials announced Sunday afternoon that
they have issued a State of Emergency.
Chenango County Schools will be closed Monday, but staff must report.
The state of Emergency will require all county schools to close from Wednesday,
through April 14th.  Unadilla Valley
& Oxford Academy announced that they will close Monday & will remain
closed Tuesday & then through April 14th.


The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office announced that due to
the increased cases of the Coronavirus, all visitation and programs at the
Delaware County Correctional Facility will be suspended until further notice.

All Otsego, Schoharie, Broome & Tioga County Schools
will be closed starting today.  Many Delaware
& Chenango County Schools will be closed today for students, but staff
members must report, decisions on Tuesday for some of those schools have not
been made, more information will be posted on each school's website.
