Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Timothy Melius of Pittsfield following a visit by the Otsego County Probation Department. Melius was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon & 3 counts of Criminal Contempt for possessing of firearms & ammunition despite having multiple court orders prohibiting him from possessing them. Melius was taken in to custody and transported to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office for processing, he was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Pittsfield Court for the above charges. The defendant was then transported to the Otsego County Probation Department where he was processed on a probation violation and arraigned in the presence of an Otsego County Court magistrate. Following arraignment, the defendant was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await further court proceedings.
The 51st State Senate District has a race this year between incumbent State Senator Peter Oberacker & Democrat Michelle Frazier. Oberacker told WCDO News why he feels he should be voted in for a 3rd term after getting key legislation passed:

U.S. Senators Schumer and Gillibrand announced that New York will receive $360,185,996 in federal funding through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. The money will help thousands of low-income households across the state afford their energy bills and make cost-effective repairs to their heating systems this winter. Individuals interested in applying for LIHEAP can visit energyhelp.us or call the National Energy Assistance Referral hotline toll-free at 1-866-674-6327.
The State Department of Health today announced that as the transmission of seasonal respiratory illnesses is underway, the State’s weekly flu reports and Flu Tracker website have been activated. The Department’s first Weekly Report for the week ending October 19, shows there were 565 lab-confirmed cases reported across the state, with 26 people hospitalized and 5 outbreaks were reported in long-term and acute care facilities. The Norwich Police Department investigated a stabbing on Rexford Street in the City of Norwich Wednesday at about 5:30 PM. Police arrested 40 year old Jason Chase of Marathon for 2nd degree Assault & Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Norwich Police Department located the victim who had stab wounds to his neck and forearm, the victim was taken to UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital and is in stable condition, Officers located and arrested Chase at Gold Street in Norwich, the stated that during an altercation, Chase allegedly produced a “brass knuckle knife,” and stabbed the victim several times, he was arraigned & was being held without bail, pending further hearings.
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced that law enforcement agencies throughout the State issued 20,714 tickets for various vehicle and traffic law violations, including 4,374 tickets for speeding and 966 tickets for drug or alcohol impaired driving during a statewide mobilization. The Labor Day weekend enforcement campaign ran from August 30 through September 2nd.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is calling for the passage of legislation that would provide free breakfast, lunch, dinner, and a snack to all schoolchildren regardless of income:

Gillibrand said that Studies show that Free school meals are associated with a variety of positive outcomes, including improved attendance rates and school performance, fewer behavioral incidents, lower suspension rates, better health outcomes, and reduced financial stress for students and families.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Ronnie Hernandez on a Fugitive from Justice complaint. The Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division received information that Hernandez was an Inmate at the Delaware County Correctional Facility & he had an active warrant from the Pennsylvania for stealing a motor vehicle, valued at $30,000. Fernandez was arrested and arraigned on the Fugitive from Justice Complaint at the Delaware County Central Arraignment Court and remanded back to the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending extradition to the State of Pennsylvania.
23 year old Elijah Gibson of Endicott, was sentenced today in Broome County Court to 5 years in State Prison, followed by 3 years of post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Weapon. On December 30, 2023, in the Village of Endicott, Gibson possessed a loaded and operable 9mm firearm, leading to his arrested & conviction.

Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith announced that the Delaware County Grand Jury returned an 8-count indictment against 32 year old Drew Garnier of Masonville for the murder of his wife Samantha, and the attempted murder of their 2 children. Garnier was indicted for 2nd Degree Murder, Attempted Murder, Criminal use of a firearm, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, for possessing assault weapons, he pleaded not guilty to each charge & was remanded to the custody of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office without bail.
State Police arrested 55-year-old Daniel Erickson of Greene, for 2nd degree Rape with a victim under the age of 15, and endangering the welfare of a child, in Bath New York earlier this year. Erickson previously pleaded guilty in April to luring a 16-year-old child in Broome County after having multiple sexually charged texts, at the time he was the Johnson City Middle School Principal.
The Chenango County Historical Society and the Chenango County Historian’s Office will collaborate on “An America 250 Conversation.” These two organizations are seeking input from the people of Chenango County on how local communities will participate in the national commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. The discussion will be tonight from 6–8 pm. at the SUNY Morrisville Norwich Campus.

Sidney Police Department received report of an armed robbery Friday Afternoon at about 1:35 PM at Smiley's at 17 West Main Street. The suspect displayed a Handgun, demanded cash, he was wearing a black and purple wig, blue Oneonta YellowJackets hooded sweatshirt and pink slippers. The suspect left went hrough yards, left behind the disguises and left in a Silver Subaru parked on Adams Street, & left the village. The suspect is a bald or balding, heavy set white male over 6 feet tall. Sidney Police were assisted by STate Police & Delaware County Deputies, Anyone with any information should contact the Sidney Police Department at 607 561-2301, more information is available at the Village of Sidney Police Department Facebook page.
State Police in Oneonta is attempting to identify an individual that was captured on a surveillance camera at the GameStop store located on State Route 23 in the town of Oneonta in regard to a larceny investigation. The Susquehanna Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has received a $5,000 grant investment from national nonprofit Petco Love in support of its lifesaving work on behalf of animals in Otsego County through clinics aimed at expanding access for animals who need care. The Petco Love program helps find homes for pets in partnership with more than 4,000 organizations, like the Susquehanna SPCA, in order to get pets the care they need & adopted into homes, and make sure that pets are not unnecessarily euthanized. President Biden appeared in Syracuse on Thursday afternoon, he discussed the $6.1 Billion Dolla federal investment in Micron Technology, which is building a manufacturing complex in Clay over the next 20 years, investing up to $125 billion, a move that could bring 50,000 to the state, construction will begin next year.

Local government sales tax collections totaled $5.6 billion in the January to March Quarter, an increase of 1.6%, compared to the same quarter last year. State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli said that this was the lowest rate of growth since the first quarter in 2021, with several upstate regions experiencing a year-over-year decline. Locally, Delaware County had 1 of the steepest declines at -6.4%.
The Raymond Corporation announced this week an expansion into Broome County with the acquisition of properties, Raymond President & CEO Michael Field told WCDO News what they will be used for:

35 year old Dimitri Escrich of Deposit pleaded guilty to Possessing a Sexual Performance by a child, in Delaware County Court, an indictment alleged that Escrich possessed a video depicting a child participating in a sexual performance, he pleaded guilty & will be sentenced to 10 years felony sex offender probation, and 20 years at minimum of being a registered sex offender on June 10th in Delaware County Court.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant Tuesday at 373 Prospect Street in the Town of Dickinson. Police arrested 39 year old Andrew Fuller of Binghamton for multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & criminally using drug Paraphernalia and 45 year old Betty Hobbs of Binghamton for multiple Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Officers seized Methamphetamine, Suboxone, Oxycodone & other narcotics, ecstasy, cocaine scales & packaging materials, Fuller and Hobbs were transported to the Broome County Correctional facility for processing and arraignment.
Governor Hochul today announced a plan to remove barriers for perspective school bus drivers applying for a commercial driver license. The DMV has implemented a federal waiver that allows school bus driver applicants to skip the engine compartment component of the commercial driver license road test, at a time when school bus drivers are desperately needed. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 30 year old Mark Lamphear of New Berlin for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia, Driving While Ability Impaired by Alcohol and DWI. Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the Town of Norwich for a speeding violation. they found Lamphear to be in possession of methamphetamine, Hydrocodone, gun parts that pieced together a non-compliant AR-15 and a 30-round magazine, packaging material and had a large sum of cash. Lamphear was processed and released on an appearance ticket and is to appear in the Town of Norwich Court at a later date, Additional Weapons Charges are Pending**

Investigation revealed that while incarcerated at the correctional facility, Spear caused damage to a television set in his cell & used his bodily fluids to create a hazardous risk to corrections officers, hew as arraigned & was returned to the correctional facility with an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

37 year old Paul Fontana of Delhi was indicted & arraigned on a 27 count indictment last week, he is accused of possessing weapons, ghost guns, a 3d printer to make ghost guns, & for selling the illegal weapons, plus he was accused of possessing oxycodone, and for menacing an individual, after Delhi Police, The Delaware County Sheriff's office executed search warrant on New Year's Day, Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond announced what was confiscated at a press conference Friday:

State Police announced that 106,509 tickets were issued statewide, as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over traffic enforcement period from December 13, and ended Monday, January 1, 2024. State Troopers arrested 510 people for DWI and investigated 3,210 accidents, which resulted in 420 people being injured and five fatalities. In Troop C, troopers had 1077 tickets for speeding, 37 for DWI, 57 for distracted driving 24 violators for the Move Over Law & a total of over 2700 tickets during the enforcement period.

Arrested were 32 year old Sara Baker of Davenport, for murderous intent, 51 year old Jovanni Salinas of Orlando Florida for Murderous intent, & 30 year old Tyler Culver of Otego for Reckless Endangerment, Criminal possession of a weapon, Possession of a firearm with a previous conviction, & Loaded Firearm, all 3 are being held pending future court action.

Pixley had been sought by law enforcement for several days following a domestic incident in the Town of Fenton on January 2nd, A deputy successfully developed information based on a tip from community and located Pixley hiding in a residence in the Town of Colesville. Pixley was charged with Strangulation, Criminal Contempt, Criminal Mischief, Endangering the Welfare of a Child & Harassment, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility.

Thran is charged with 2nd degree Murder, she was arraigned at the Cortland County Centralized Arraignment & was remanded to the Cortland County Correctional Facility without bail. She is scheduled to appear in the Solon Town Court on January 17. Powell was 1 of 5 defendants in a lawsuit brought by the Office of the Attorney General against the NRA and senior management in August 2020. The trial of the claims against the NRA and the remaining defendants will begin today.

On December 28, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office patrol observed a sedan traveling in Sherburne committing several vehicle and traffic law violations. During the traffic stop, officers located a bong used to smoke methamphetamine, a further search located methamphetamine, packaging material, scales, a large sum of money & a loaded stolen handgun. 41 year old Daniel Knochenmus of Sherburne & 50 year old Bonnie Ramsey of Sherburne were charged with several counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a weapon, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property & Criminal Use of Drugs Paraphernalia, they were remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility without bail pending an appearance in Chenango County Court.
Rochester Police Chief David Smith gave updates today regarding the January 1st 12:50 AM crash & explosion of 2 SUV's outside the Kodak Center Parking lot. Rochester Police & the FBI investigated the possibility of a terrorist act as there were numerous gas cans in the suspects rented vehicle. The suspect, Michael Avery of Syracuse may have suffered from undiagnosed mental health problems, he died Monday night in an area hospital, 2 other people died in the incident. The investigation revealed that Avery drove to Rochester on Wednesday, checked into a hotel, renting the SUV at the local airport, bought several gas cans & gasoline, Police on the scene said that he sped up as Police were guiding motorists out of the concert venue parking lot. Avery did not leave behind any terrorist manifesto, but the investigation is continuing.
Governor Hochul has again vetoed legislation that would have changed the state’s wrongful death statute by letting families recover damages for emotional suffering from the death of a loved one. Hochul declined Friday to sign the Grieving Families Act for the second time this year, she said that the bill had the potential for significant unintended consequences, like increased insurance premiums for consumers and a risk to the financial well-being of public hospitals and other health care facilities.
The Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival Board of Directors has named Michele Ericksen as the new Executive Director, replacing Celeste Friend who had been the Executive Director since 2017. A 17 year old from North Carolina was taken into custody after the Southern Tier SWAT Team executed a search warrant in the Town of Union. On Friday, Broome County Sheriff’s Office acted on information gathered by the US Marshal’s to apprehend a 17-year-old male, who is accused of killing 2 people in Mount Holly, North Carolina last month. The fugitive was at 122 Pierce Avenue, he was apprehended after Deputies executed a search warrant & he was taken into custody without incident.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 3 men on December 22nd, in Kirkwood, after Deputies responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident at a trailer park, they arrived to a dispute involving over a dozen individuals. 21 year old Guy Conklin of Binghamton is accused of threatening to shoot several individuals, driving into a parked car, leaving the scene and returning with 3 passengers in his vehicle. 19 year old Keith Palmer of Binghamton, was in possession of an illegal “Ghost Gun” & controlled substances. 27 year old Christopher Cady of Binghamton, was found to possess drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance, he gave police a false name, he was wanted on a warrant out of Pennsylvania on drug charges. Conklin, Palmer and Cady were arrested on a variety of charges, Conklin & Palmer were released on appearance tickets, Cady was held for extradition by the Monroe County Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Office.
5 New Laws went into effect yesterday in New York State, 1 new law states that Lifeguards can be 15 years old if they are directly supervised, another is that Non-public schools in New York will have to provide free menstrual products for female students, The minimum wage in will increase to $15 per hour outside of New York City, Long Island & Westchester Counties, also, the minimum age to operate an ATV in New York will go from 10 to 14 & Colleges will be required to post campus crime statistics on their websites and to investigate hate crimes. The institutions will also be responsible for informing students about how they plan to prevent hate crimes.

Rochester Police & the FBI investigated the possibility of a terrorist act as there were numerous gas cans in the suspects rented vehicle. The suspect, Michael Avery of Syracuse may have suffered from undiagnosed mental health problems, he died Monday night in an area hospital, 2 other people died in the incident. The investigation revealed that Avery drove to Rochester on Wednesday, checked into a hotel, renting the SUV at the local airport, bought several gas cans & gasoline, Police on the scene said that he sped up as Police were guiding motorists out of the concert venue parking lot. Avery did not leave behind any terrorist manifesto, but the investigation is continuing.
Governor Hochul has again vetoed legislation that would have changed the state’s wrongful death statute by letting families recover damages for emotional suffering from the death of a loved one. Hochul declined Friday to sign the Grieving Families Act for the second time this year, she said that the bill had the potential for significant unintended consequences, like increased insurance premiums for consumers and a risk to the financial well-being of public hospitals and other health care facilities.
The Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival Board of Directors has named Michele Ericksen as the new Executive Director, replacing Celeste Friend who had been the Executive Director since 2017. Ericksen will manage all day-to-day operations for Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival, which will be held on September 7th & 8th in East and West Parks in Norwich.

A 17 year old from North Carolina was taken into custody after the Southern Tier SWAT Team executed a search warrant in the Town of Union. On Friday, Broome County Sheriff’s Office acted on information gathered by the US Marshal’s to apprehend a 17-year-old male, who is accused of killing 2 people in Mount Holly, North Carolina last month. The fugitive was at 122 Pierce Avenue, he was apprehended after Deputies executed a search warrant & he was taken into custody without incident.
The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 3 men on December 22nd, in Kirkwood, after Deputies responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident at a trailer park, they arrived to a dispute involving over a dozen individuals. 21 year old Guy Conklin of Binghamton is accused of threatening to shoot several individuals, driving into a parked car, leaving the scene and returning with 3 passengers in his vehicle. 19 year old Keith Palmer of Binghamton, was in possession of an illegal “Ghost Gun” & controlled substances. 27 year old Christopher Cady of Binghamton, was found to possess drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance, he gave police a false name, he was wanted on a warrant out of Pennsylvania on drug charges. Conklin, Palmer and Cady were arrested on a variety of charges, Conklin & Palmer were released on appearance tickets, Cady was held for extradition by the Monroe County Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Office.
5 New Laws went into effect yesterday in New York State, 1 new law states that Lifeguards can be 15 years old if they are directly supervised, another is that Non-public schools in New York will have to provide free menstrual products for female students, The minimum wage in will increase to $15 per hour outside of New York City, Long Island & Westchester Counties, also, the minimum age to operate an ATV in New York will go from 10 to 14 & Colleges will be required to post campus crime statistics on their websites and to investigate hate crimes. The institutions will also be responsible for informing students about how they plan to prevent hate crimes.
The FBI has been called in to investigate a 2 vehicle crash outside the Kodak Center in Rochester at 12:50 AM Monday as possible act of terrorism. 2 people were killed and 5 injured when 2 SUV's collided outside the parking lot as concertgoers were leaving the venue.
