Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Jacob Roman of Walton with 2 counts of Grand Larceny, and 1 count of Burglary, On October 18th, Deputies were dispatched to Benton Avenue in the Village of Walton for a reported Burglary in Progress where they located, identified and arrested Roman. On November 21st, Deputies located and arrested Roman on new charges after it was alleged that he had taken the victim’s credit card and made numerous purchases on the card which amounted to over $1,500 without authorization. Roman was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.


Gene Schmidt of Unadilla & his family will once again offer a free Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day at the Sidney Elks Lodge, Schmidt said that do need some volunteers to help with preparation, serving and cleaning up:

State Police & Local Law Enforcement Agencies around the State New York State will increase patrols during the holidays to combat issues like impaired and reckless driving, and to deter other crimes like robbery and larceny. The patrols will include both visible enforcement, such as checkpoints, as well as unmarked vehicles mingle with traffic to catch distracted drivers.


The 14th Annual Holiday Craft Fair will be held by the Bainbridge Guilford Teacher's Association on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the BG High School Gym. Over 40 local crafter & artisans will participate, there will be raffle & door prizes, people are asked to bring a non-perishable food item, pet food or a hygiene product as a donation & to get a ticket for a door prize.

33 year old Corey Green of Vestal was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 19 years in federal prison for his role in a drug trafficking conspiracy spanning the United States. Green admitted that he possessed, distributed, and conspired to distribute large quantities of fentanyl, heroin & Methamphetamine in and around Broome County, he also admitted to possessing 3 handguns and 2 AK-47 style weapons to further his drug-trafficking activities, while being prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous convictions, & conspiring to launder his drug-trafficking proceeds. Green was sentenced to a 19 year prison term, concurrent 3 and 5-year terms of post-release supervision, and a money judgment of over $185,000 of unrecovered proceeds from his drug trafficking. Co-conspirator Michael Jacobs of Endicott, was previously sentenced to 10 years and 10 months term of imprisonment & 5 years of post-release supervision.


21 year old Joziah Worthington was sentenced following his convictions after trial in Broome County Court, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd & 3rd Degree, to 9 years in a State Correctional Facility with 5 years of post-release supervision for 1 charge, and 7 years in prison with 3 years of post-release supervision for other charge, to run concurrently. Worthington was arrested by state Police in 2024 in Johnson City, for illegally possessing a firearm as well as a large capacity ammunition feeding device capable of accepting 31 rounds, loaded with 25 rounds, Worthington’s DNA being found on the firearm.


Chobani announced that at the East Park Bandstand in Norwich last Saturday, following the 30th annual Norwich Parade of Lights, More than 30 Chobani volunteers distributed 3,000 cases of Chobani products, to thank the community. Chobani will also participate in the annual tree-lighting ceremony at Hyde Park in New Berlin on December 6th, employees plan to give out over 200 cases of yogurt to local families.


NBT Bank presented the United Way of Mid Rural New York with a check for $190,000 to help fund programs that provide financial stability, education and health resources for individuals and families in Chenango, Delaware, Madison and Otsego counties. NBT Bank employees donated $95,000 to the United Way’s annual campaign through personal contributions, and the company matched that amount with an additional $95,000.

State Police reported that 2 train cars derailed near Hale Eddy in the town of Deposit at about 2:20 this morning. The engineers of the freight train were not injured, high river water washed away the rock & a culvert underneath the tracks, some diesel fuel entered the West Branch of the Delaware River, the DEC Hazmat team has responded. The 2 derailed cars are hovering over the river, but did not go into the river. The clean-up & the investigation are ongoing.
State Police at Binghamton arrested 45 year old Bobby Galusha of Harpursville for Criminal Trespass and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Troopers responded to the report of a couple in Windsor finding an unidentified man in their home. Galusha was arrested, he is accused of possessing suboxone at the time of the arrest, he was released on appearance tickets to the town of Windsor Court on August 15th.
Governor Cuomo today announced that he will propose legislation to further decouple New York State's tax code from the federal code if President Trump moves forward with a plan for a $100 billion capital gains tax cut for the rich. The Governor also called on Congress to immediately block any attempt by President Trump to unilaterally cut taxes for the nation's wealthiest 1% in violation of the Constitution. Governor Cuomo and Attorney General Underwood also filed a lawsuit to protect New York and its taxpayers from Washington's drastic curtailment of the state and local tax deduction, which argues that the new SALT cap was enacted to target New York and similarly situated states & that it interferes with states' rights to make their own fiscal decisions.
President Trump is scheduled to visit Fort Drum in Watertown on Monday, and is also expected to make a campaign stop in the Utica area for incumbent Congresswoman Claudia Tenney of the 22 District. Trump is expected to sign a $716 Billion dollar defense bill at Fort drum before the Tenney Campaign stop. Tenney faces a battle in November against Democratic Anthony Brinidisi.
State Police arrested 34 year old Darnell Ney of Port Crane for Criminal Contempt, after Troopers were dispatched to the town of Fenton, where a person with an order of protection against Ney was allegedly contacted by him from the Broome County Jail. Ney was arrested and arraigned in the town of Fenton Court and he was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.
Oneonta Police arrested 2 area men for allegedly stealing a van & bicycles 17 year old Michael Roman & 26 year old Benito Brito were charged with 3rd degree Burglary, 3rd degree grand larceny, plus criminal mischief; both were being held pending court action.

Deposit Town Supervisor Thomas Axtell has declared a State of Emergency for Town roads in Deposit due to excessive rainfall and flash flooding. Supervisor Axtell has requested no unnecessary travel on Town roads until further notice. Also, Deputy Town Supervisor Patrick O’Brien from the Town of Hancock has issued a Travel Advisory for all town roads in Hancock until further notice due to excessive rain and flash flooding. No unnecessary travel is requested.
The State Department of Health confirmed the presence of Eastern Equine Encephalitis Virus in mosquitoes in Onondaga and Oswego Counties. EEE is a rare, viral disease spread by mosquitoes that can affect people and horses, people over 50 and younger than 15 are at greatest risk for acquiring the virus. Most people bitten by an infected mosquito will not develop any symptoms, severe cases begin with the sudden onset of headache, high fever, chills and vomiting, approximately a third of patients who develop EEE die, while many patients who survive EEE experience neurologic impairment. There have been no human cases of EEE this year, there is no vaccine. Officials suggest keeping mosquitoes away, by eliminating standing water in yards& using Repellents that contain DEET, IR3535, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies responded June 3rd to County Hwy 33 in the Town of Kortright for a report of a personal injury auto accident. The driver, 58 year old Dominick Forte of Harpersfield was transported by Life Net Helicopter to Albany Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Deputies arrested Forte for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, DWI, Aggravated DWI, Speed unreasonable and prudent, failure to keep right, no seat belt and unlicensed operator. Forte was released on his own recognizance and will appear in the Town of Kortright Court at a later date.
The Otsego County Chamber of Commerce is having its 32nd Annual Golf Tournament, today at the Oneonta Country Club. Shot gun starts at 10:00a.m. Registration starts at 9:00am.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 2 New York City men on felony marihuana possession charges following a traffic stop on State Highway 17 in the Town of Hancock. Deputies stopped a speeding vehicle operated by 20-year-old Messiah Ortiz of New York City, a search of the vehicle and its occupants led to the seizure of 1 pound of marihuana and over $2500 cash. Deputies charged Ortiz and 26-year-old Michael Lewis of New York City, with Criminal Possession of Marihuana, they were arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court where they were remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 secured bond pending future court action.
State Police arrested 30-year-old Maxx Waters of Afton for 3rd degree Assault & harassment. Troopers responded to a dispute at a home on Hilltop Drive in the Town of Afton, where Waters allegedly engaged in a physical dispute with 2 other victims, with one of the victims receiving a laceration to the head. Waters was arraigned in the Town of Afton Court where he was remanded to the Chenango County Court on $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 property bond. His next court date is on December 8, 2016.
A charity Auction will be held November 19th in Oneonta to benefit the Leatherstocking Council of the Boys Scouts of America. District Executive Peter Miller told WCDO News of some of the auction items up for bidding:

State Police arrested 32-year-old Amber Joy of Morris for 4th grand larceny; Joy is accused of stealing religious items from the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, on Main Street in the Village of Morris, valued at $240. Joy was arraigned in the Town of Morris Court where she was remanded to the Otsego County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 property bond. Her next court date is pending.
A City of Norwich resident was arrested by the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office on a Fugitive of Justice complaint from New Jersey. 30-year-old Scott Russell was taken into custody and was brought to the Town of Norwich Court. Russell was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility with no bail. He is to reappear in the Chenango County Court at a later date.
Chenango county sheriffs deputies arrested 56-year-old Peter Constantinou of New Berlin for 3rd degree Assault & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, following an investigation by Chenango County Child Protective Services and the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office. Constantinou faces action in the Town of New Berlin Court at a later date.
A rally in support of the Sioux at Standing Rock of North Dakota will be held in the Muller plaza in Oneonta tomorrow from 5:30 to 8:00 PM. The Sioux are at odds with a plan to have the Dakota Access Pipeline run through land that they consider sacred. More information is available at the "Stand with Standing Rock" Facebook page.


The elections are over and here are the Winners for 2016: in The U.S. Senate seat for New York, Democrat Charles Schumer beats Republican Wendy Long by a better than 2 to 1 margin. In the House of Representatives: in the 19th Congressional District Race, Republican John Faso defeats Democrat Zephyr Teachout & in the 22nd Congressional district Race Republican Claudia Tenney wins over Democrat Kim Meyers & 3rd party Candidate Martin Babinec. In area State Senate races, Republican incumbents Fred Akshar, Jim Seward & John Bonacic were re-elected. In State Assembly Races, Incumbents Bill Magee Donna Lupardo & Gary Finch defeated their opponents, Cliff Crouch & Pete Lopez were re-elected, they ran unopposed. Broome county voters elected Democrat Jason Garner over incumbent Debbie Preston. John Hubbard wins for Delaware County District Attorney, he was unopposed, Peter McCann wins the election for Morris Town Judge, and Randall Mowers was elected to the Oneonta Town Board
