Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Christopher Decker of Unadilla, following the report of a domestic dispute. Decker was charged with Assault, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing or Blood Circulation, Unlawful Imprisonment, Endangering the Welfare of a Child & Harassment. Decker was being held at the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office pending Arraignment, he is scheduled to appear in Unadilla Town Court at a later date.
With the season of holiday parties, the State Police remind motorists to not drink or engage in similar risky behaviors, and then get behind the wheel, Trooper Aga Tinker of Troop C in Sidney comments;

Governor Kathy Hochul has signed a law banning online sweepstakes casinos in New York, which are sites that let people play casino-like games with virtual coins that could be traded for cash or prizes. The new law not only outlaws these online casino-like games, it also prohibits companies that support them, like payment processors and advertisers. Penalties can reach up to $100,000 per violation. New York now joins New Jersey, California, Connecticut, Montana, and Nevada, in the ban of those online activities.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Strategic Response Group utilized drone technology and its K9 unit to track down 2 fleeing suspects on foot following a high-speed vehicle pursuit in Binghamton, Kirkwood and Windsor. On December 11, deputies observed a pickup with a loud exhaust and an obstructed license plate in Binghamton, and attempted a routine traffic stop, the Pickup failed to comply, and led deputies on the pursuit, reaching speeds of 100miles per hour before the driver drove through a field before getting stuck, the 2 suspects fled on foot through the woods. K9 Raven and a drone tracked the suspects through the woods, they arrested 63 year old Tod Archibald of Starlight, Pennsylvania and 42 year old Ryan Dirig of Long Eddy, Officer seized cocaine, crack cocaine and fentanyl from Dirig, he was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, Attempted Grand Larceny, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Endangerment, and a host of other charges, Archibald was charged with Obstruction of Governmental Administration.
American Red Cross Blood Drives are being held today, one in Walton from 1:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., at the First Baptist Church, 55 Townsend Street, another will be in Cooperstown from 12:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, 31 Elm Street. Appointments can be made by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS.
The National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum will celebrate the Dodgers’ second straight championship through Autumn Glory, the Museum’s tribute to the postseason in Cooperstown. the Museum acquired several artifacts from the Dodgers, including a Bat used by Miguel Rojas to hit his ninth-inning, game-tying home run in Game 7, Jersey worn by Shohei Ohtani, Bat used by Freddie Freeman to hit his walk-off home run in the 18th inning of Game 3, plus several items donated by Toronto's Trey Yesavage, Addison Barger & Max Scherzer. Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced a new emergency order that prevents New York City residents from using housing vouchers in Broome County. County officials said the vouchers are part of a New York City program which provides a housing allowance to eligible city families in a shelter or who are homeless. Garnar previously issued an executive order earlier this year that allowed for law enforcement to order busses with migrants to turn back around & not stop in Broome County, as the County was facing its own housing issues.
The Tri Town Theater will be performing "The Music Man" at the Sidney High School Stage next week, on October 20th & 21st at 7:30 PM & Sunday October 22nd at 2:00 PM, performers George Wells & Jack Doyle visited the WCDO Morning show today to talk about the production:

Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar and Undersheriff Sam Davis welcomed K9 Raven to the Sheriff's Office today. K9 Raven and her partner and handler, Deputy Thomas Holden have undergone extensive training at Cedar Creek Kennels in Illinois over the past few weeks and are set to conclude their training this month. Raven is a female German Shepherd trained in tracking, protection, drug detection and other skills needed for law enforcement K-9 units.
A new survey on school safety has been released that places New York State near the bottom, ranking 45th out of 50 for overall student safety. New York ranked 1st in school safety plans, but ranked poorly for weapons in schools, exposure to illegal drugs, & for students feeling safe at school. The full report can be found at scholaroo.com.
Helios Care in Oneonta announced that they will have a fundraising Country Music Show on Saturday October 21st at the Foothills Performing Arts Center in Oneonta. 8 acts are signed up to perform, tickets can be purchased at helioscare.org.

The last steps are being taken to set up another way for Norwich & New Berlin residents to get high speed internet, Chenango County Director of Planning Shane Butler told WCDO News that a grant was acquired that allows Interconnect Wireless Corporation to offer a new internet service:

October is Fire Prevention Month and Departments around the state will have a variety of events scheduled this week. The Sidney Fire Department will have an “Open House” tonight, Sidney Fire Chief John Gilmore explains:

Chief Gilmore said that the Open House will beheld from 6:00 to 8:00 PM tonight.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced that New Yorkers may check to see if they are owed money by the state, as there are 49 million unclaimed funds accounts valued at $18.4 billion with funds dating back to the 1940’s. The Comptroller’s Office has an online database is located at osc.state.ny.us or by calling 1-800-221-9311.
