A Delaware County Grand Jury returned a 9-count indictment against 24 year old Donovan Connelly of Walton, for 6 counts of Sexual Abuse, for the alleged sexual abuse of a 17 year female co-worker while working in a position of authority. Other counts charge Connelly with Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, 2 counts of Stalking. Connelly was issued a criminal order of protection, which he violated, which led to a charge of Criminal Contempt. The investigation is continuing, anyone with additional information should contact the Walton Police Department at 607-865-5400.
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Aviation Administration announced an Airport Improvement Grant for the Eaton Airport in Norwich. The grant was for just over $1 Million Dollars and will be used to re-seal & resurface the runway, the grant money will fund about 95% of the project.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli has completed a study of the $277 billion Enacted Budget for the current State Fiscal Year, which has an increase of 7% from the previous State Budget. DiNapoli's report stated the largest increases in spending have been in Medicaid and School Aid, other potential issues are the the retrenchment of federal support; persistent inflation and increasing local government fiscal needs, also the state took action to preserve healthcare coverage for over a million New Yorkers, but that still resulted in 450,000 New Yorkers losing eligibility. The state has significantly increased its reserve levels at approximately $15 billion.
The Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating 38 year old Jennifer Hewitt, who is wanted on a Bench Warrant issued by the Town of Davenport Court, Hewitt was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury on charges of 3rd-degree Grand Larceny recently, following an investigation into a fraud complaint where Hewitt unlawfully issued bad checks totaling more than $14,000 and withdrew the funds without having sufficient balances in her accounts. Anyone with information pertaining to Hewitt's location should call the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office at (607)832-5555 or “Submit a Tip” at their Sheriff’s APP.

The State DEC and State Department of Health are issuing an Air Quality Health Advisory for fine particulate for today, for the region due to the impact of smoke from wildfires in Canada. In addition, there is the potential for visible smoke and hazy skies across the state and New Yorkers may see temporary spikes in smoke-related pollution. The advisory will be in effect until 11:59 pm. More information is available at airnow.gov
State Police arrested 3 people following a traffic stop in Broome County. Troopers were patrolling Johnson City & observed a vehicle commit Traffic Law violations. Troopers conducted a traffic stop on Prospect Street in the town of Dickinson. The operator was identified as 51 year old Gregory Jackson of Brooklyn. The passengers were 60 year old Sircurtis King of Binghamton & 38 year old Jhenna Wood of Binghamton. Troopers with the assistance of a State Police K9, located cocaine, fentanyl, a digital scale, packaging materials and a large amount of cash. Jackson, King and Wood were each charged with 4 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 2 counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia and all 3 were processed and were transported to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment.
The City of Oneonta announced that a contractor working for Firstlight Fiber will be installing new underground fiber cable on Ford Avenue between the intersection of Main St. and the Community Bank driveway entrance, starting at 7:00 AM until the Work is completed. The road will be closed to one lane of traffic with flaggers and temporary no parking will be implemented for both sides of the roadway throughout construction. Over 600 NYSEG customers in Otsego County are without power today, following last Night's Storms, the Towns of Laurens & Pittsfield in Otsego County have a State of Emergency in effect due to impassable roads from downed trees & power lines. Crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible.

38 year old Jennifer Hewitt of Bloomville, was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury, Counts 1 and 2 are for 3rd degree Grand Larceny, for unlawfully issuing a check from a different bank to Delaware National Bank of Delhi and then withdrawing more than $3000, to have insufficient funds in either account to cover her withdrawal on 2 occasions.


29 year old Wesley Eignor of Hobart, was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury for Attempted Assault, Obstruction of Governmental Administration and Aggravated unlicensed operation of a Motor Vehicle. The indictments stem from an incident where Eignor was stopped by a Delaware County Deputy for speeding, he resisted arrest & assaulted the Deputy, and did not have a license or privilege of operating a motor vehicle.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Jennifer Hewitt of Cooperstown following an investigation into a fraud complaint at 2 Delaware County banks. Deputies were dispatched on March 3rd to a fraud complaint, they learned that Hewitt cashed 2 separate checks at 2 different Delaware National Bank of Delhi locations totaling more than $14,000, she did not have the funds available to cover the checks. Deputies arrested Hewitt for 2 counts of Grand Larceny among other related charges, Hewitt was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Arraignment.


The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced monthly weekend office hours for pistol permit processing, as well as a new Firearm Safety Course. On Saturday, April 11th, the Identification/Pistol Permit Office will begin Monthly Weekend Office Hours from 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM to process pistol permit applications, plus other business for community members who are unable to visit Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Community members are also invited to register for the first Sheriff's Office Firearm Safety Course provided by their Training Division, which will also take place on Saturday, April 11, Course space is limited, register at broomecountyny.gov.


Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 30 year old Nicholas Kahl of Middle Island following an investigation of a larceny complaint. On March 22nd, Deputies were dispatched to a complaint in Hamden, it was discovered that Kahl allegedly stole a tractor from a property without the owner’s consent. Deputies arrested Kahl for Grand Larceny, he was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Arraignment.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli announced that Wall Street’s securities industry bonus pool reached a record $49.2 billion in 2025, up 9% from the previous year, while the average bonus rose 6% to $246,900. The increases reflect a rise of more than 30% in Wall Street’s profits, which totaled $65.1 billion in 2025. Wall Street accounted for 19.4% of the state’s tax collections in the current State Fiscal Year.

Justin Valk of Davenport was sentenced to 31 years to life in prison in Delaware County Court Wednesday, 25 years to life for 2nd degree Murder, which will run consecutive to the 6 years he was previously sentenced to for Burglary. Valk was also sentenced to 20 years for Assault, and 5 Years for a 2 counts Criminal Possession of a Controlled substance, both of those sentences will run concurrent to the murder sentence. Valk caused the death of his wife, Stephanie by injecting her with multiple doses of Methamphetamine and Fentanyl over a 24 hour period, the evidence was shown to a jury of footage shot by Valk, during a trial in January of his wife suffering from seizures and convulsions.


State Police arrested 62 year old Frank Kovacs of Laurens, on a warrant for 8 counts of Rape, 3 counts of Criminal Sex Act, 3 counts of Sexual Abuse, Investigators received information pertaining to the rape and sexual assault of a child in Saratoga County from 2008 until 2011 in Clifton Park. Kovacs was arrested at his place of employment in Oneonta, and was transported to State Police in Clifton Park for processing. He was then arraigned at the Clifton Park Town Court where he was remanded to the Saratoga County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail, a $250,000 bond, or a $500,000 partially secured bond. In June 2025, Kovacs was arrested by State Police for rape and sex abuse charges following a Otsego County grand jury indictment, this arrest is a continuation of that investigation. Kovacs is also mayor of the village of Laurens.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 27 year old Shane Tweedie of Hamden for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Menacing, Reckless Endangerment & 2 counts of Harassment, following a report that Tweedie allegedly threatened to stab 2 people with a knife, leaving the scene & leading to a manhunt. Tweedie was arraigned at the Town of Delhi Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000.00 cash bail.
In June, New York State’s private sector job count rose by 15,000, to over 8.1 Million, according to preliminary figures released today by the State Department of Labor.
The State unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.5% in June, which is the lowest level since June 2007.
The 171st Chenango County Fair will be held at the Fairgrounds in Norwich next month, with a wide variety of Activities, according to spokesperon mary Weidman comments:

State Police arrested 33 year old Tyson Robb of Delhi, for DWI, after Troopers spotted Robb in the pull off area on State Route 10 in Delhi and checked on his welfare. Troopers accuse Robb of being intoxicated, he was arrested and issued appearance tickets returnable to the town of Delhi Court on July 24th. State police arrested 30 year old Jennifer Hewitt of Delhi for DWI after she arrived at the State Police barracks to pick up Robb. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the town of Harpersfield Court on July 23rd. Both Robb and Hewitt were then turned over to a sober third party and released.
State Police arrested 21 year old Dana Scarinzi of Endicott for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, after Troopers were dispatched to a 2-car accident on State Route 79 in Colesville. Troopers determined that Scarinzi crossed over the center line and sideswiped a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction & they accuse Scarinzi of being intoxicated, with a reported B.A.C. of .21%. Scarinzi will appear in the town of Colesville Court on August 1st.


State Police arrested 34 year old Gabriel McKown of Guilford for 2nd degree Burglary. Troopers began an investigation after a complainant in Union reported that McKown had unlawfully entered their residence without permission on several occasions. McKown was arraigned in the town of Union Court. He was remanded to the Broome County Jail on $2,000 cash bail or $5,000 bond.
State Police at Deposit arrested 55 year old Thomas Leonard of Hancock for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument. A trooper on patrol observed Leonard operating a vehicle with an expired registration and what appeared to be a photocopy of an inspection sticker. After a traffic stop was initiated, an investigation led to the trooper locating drugs in Leonard’s possession. He was subsequently arrested and arraigned in the village of Hancock Court. Leonard was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Solid Waste Facility Director Susan McIntyre and staff at the Center, on State Highway 10 in Walton, for a public open house on Saturday, August 11 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon. There will be guided tours of the compost facility and recycling center where people can see how solid waste is handled through the sustainable practices of composting, recycling and resource recovery.
