State Police arrested 27 year old Jayson Vanvalkenburg of Mount Upton for Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Menacing and 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Troopers responded to a dispute in the Town of Guilford, Vanvalkenburg allegedly choked the victim in front of 2 children, he was arraigned in the Town of Guilford Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $2000 cash bail, pending court action on April 25th.
State Police arrested 36 year old Justin Shaul of Cooperstown, for DWI with a B.A.C. result of .16% along with other traffic violations. Troopers responded to a report of a vehicle off the roadway on East Street in the Town of Oneonta, Shaul was still with the vehicle. Shaul was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Oneonta Court on May 16th.
State Senator Fred Akshar will host 3 "Face Time With Fred" Town Hall meetings this weekend, in Guilford, Fenton, and Owego.

The 13th Annual Earth Festival will be held Saturday at Milford Central School from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Items that can be collected at the event include Styrofoam, empty inkjet cartridges, cell phones and other small electronics, tennis balls, wood pellet bags, and used monofilament fishing line, and natural cork from wine bottles.
The "Battling the C's" Tri Town Relay for Life Team will hold a Quarters Auction Fundraiser at the Sidney American Legion today. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. for viewing items and event starts at 6:30.
State Police at Norwich arrested 56-year-old Thomas Brick of Chenango Forks, for the felony Grand Larceny and Petty Larceny. The investigation determined that in March 2016, Brick had entered into an agreement to do repair work on a residential trailer and was given a down payment of $8,000. At no time did he start the work or return the down payment to the victim. Brick was being held at the Gowanda Correctional Facility on an unrelated charge, was transported to the Chenango County Court for his arraignment. He was then transported back to that state prison. Brick’s next court date in Chenango County is pending.
Governor Cuomo announced the submission of 154 vetoes, which includes 13 reappropriations for items that had previously been fully paid out. 75 items are more than seven years old and no state funding has been disbursed over that time, 58 appropriations pertained to functions already funded, 8 appropriations were vetoed on constitutional grounds such as that the purpose of the reappropriation was changed.
A Panel Discussion regarding Climate Change & the public perception will be held today in the Science Building at the State University Campus in Oneonta. Matt Beitscher will be leading Friday's Panel Discussion:

There will be a public meeting on Sunday for Afton Village Residents to discuss the Strategic plan & local Waterfront revitalization grant that the village has received. Representatives from GeoEco Design will answer questions Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Bolster Community Center on Main Street.
The Unadilla Chamber of Commerce will hold their Chamber Dinner this Sunday, honoring the Unadilla Drive In as the Business of the Year and Dave Welch for the Commitment to Community Award. The dinner will be held at Unadilla Methodist Church starting at 4:30 PM.
The State DEC's annual youth turkey hunting weekend is scheduled for this weekend for junior hunters ages 12-15. The DEC encourages experienced hunters to take out novice hunters this spring; more information is available at dec.ny.gov.
The Guilford Town Board will hold a special meeting Saturday at 12:00 Noon at the Town Hall on Marble road. The board will review website proposals at that meeting, which is open to the public.
The Oneonta Family YMCA is hosting the 2017 YMCA Gymnastics States Championships April 22nd and 23rd. The State Gymnastics Championships are being held at the Alumni Field House on the SUNY Oneonta campus. Over 225 gymnasts from across New York State will come compete beginning at 9:00 am Saturday April 22nd. More information is available at 432-0010.

State Police arrested 4 people in connection with a home invasion burglary at 16 Bradley Hill Road in the Town of Oxford, in the early morning hours of December 30th 2013. Charged were 31-year-old COREY CLARK of Norwich, 35-year-old MARK ALEMAR of Guilford, 25-year-old JUSTIN TOWNSEND of Bainbridge, and 25-year-old JAYSON VANVALKENBURG of New Berlin, on a variety of charges including 1st degree burglary & unlawful imprisonment. All four were arraigned and are currently incarcerated in the Chenango County Jail awaiting future court appearances.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of robbery at gunpoint Saturday in the Town of New Berlin. The victim reported being in the backseat of a parked passenger vehicle when a male allegedly approached the vehicle and pointed a shotgun in his face while demanding money. After throwing money out of the window, a female allegedly pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded more money. The victim escaped and called 911. The Sheriff’s Office recovered several hundred dollars in cash from the road and the handgun, which was later determined to be a BB Gun. The Sheriff’s Office arrested 27 year old Raymond Sittery of Norwich, 18 year old Lacey-Jane Zinkhan of Norwich and 26 year old Marissa Deforest, for 2nd degree Robbery, all were arraigned & were remanded to the Chenango County jail, the investigation is continuing.
Plans for a new state university school of Pharmacy in Broome County has been fast-tracked, through the efforts of State Senator Tom Libous & Governor Cuomo. Libous told WCDO News how that they cut red tape to get this 60 million dollar project started:

The school will have about 240 students initially, and dozens of professors & support staff once it is open.
The Otsego County Sheriff's Department arrested 34-year-old Keith Blush of Milford, on charges of endangering the welfare of a child. Blush is accused of taping an 8-year-old boy’s mouth shut and taping his arms behind his back. Blush faces action in Milford Town Court on February 11th.
The Chenango County Sheriff's Department arrested Joseph Collins of Norwich for 2nd degree Harassment. Collins was charged following an investigation into a domestic dispute where Collins allegedly struck the victim in the face, he was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and was released on his own recognizance, Collins is to reappear in court on a later date.
Congressman Chris Gibson announced that the House of Representatives has passed the Farm Bill. Gibson said that the passing of the farm bill follows the passing in the House of a federal budget plan:

The Farm Bill contains a number of provisions authored and supported by Congressman Gibson that will benefit New York farmers & food pantries; it also sets agriculture policy for the next 5 years.
A joint meeting of the Otsego County Conservation Association and the League of Women Voters of the Cooperstown Area will be held from 7-8:30 p.m. today, at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel, 25 Church Street in Cooperstown. Otsego County Solid Waste and Planning Department director Karen Sullivan will discuss the actions taken by the County in dissolving its contract with MOSA. Sullivan will also outline the county’s plans for recycling, composting and other initiatives. The meeting is free and open to the public; more information is available at 293-6654.
