Police in Virginia reported that 34 year old Tatiana David of Ithaca, who was abducted from Ithaca yesterday morning, has died following a shootout with Police on I-95 in Springfield Virginia. Virginia State Police said that a trooper spotted the Jeep Cherokee that was the suspected kidnapper's vehicle Wednesday Night, Police pulled the Jeep over & the trooper made contact with the driver and returned to his patrol car, the Jeep sped off and police pursued for about 20 miles, state police positioned vehicles around the Jeep to force it to stop. Virginia State Police said that the driver 35 year old Michael Davis began firing shots as troopers approached the Jeep, Troopers returned fire, Davis was shot and suffered life-threatening injuries, Tatiana David was shot and killed during the incident.
The Greater Oneonta Historical Society will open its next special exhibition April 22nd, the exhibition will commemorate the bicentennial of the D&H Railroad's History in the town and city of Oneonta, according to Society Curator Marcela Micucci:

Micucci said that a variety of free programs will coincide with the D&H exhibition, including a tour of the historic D&H Red Caboose in Neahwa Park; a Walking Tour at the D&H Roundhouse remains; The exhibits opens on April 22nd at the Society's location on Main Street in Oneonta, an opening reception will begin at 6:00 PM & will be open to the public.
The Sidney Chamber of Commerce Announced their annual award winners at their meeting Wednesday Morning, Dr. Rohan Jayasena was chosen as the winner of the "Citizen Of The Years" award, he told WCDO News of his reaction:

The Chamber also chose Waste Recovery Enterprises as the "Business of the Years" award winner, and Kyle Westcott, who formerly owned the Sidney Great American Food Store, was named as the winner of the Commitment to Community Award.
Delaware County District Attorney's office announced that 33 year old Andelis Santiago of Hartford Connecticut, was convicted on 1 count of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle in the Town of Hancock Court. Santiago was alleged to have been speeding on State Route 17 in the Town of Hancock, State Police initiated a traffic stop, & he failed to stop his vehicle for approximately 8 miles, until he drove off the road. Santiago was fined $1,400, plus a $50 DNA fee for submitting a sample for the State DNA databank, he was also ordered to attend a Victim’s Impact Panel and successfully complete an Impaired Driver Program & he must undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation, he could face a year in jail if he fails to comply.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic dispute Monday, 30 year old Stephen Pudiak of Port Crane is accused of placing a gun at his girlfriend & also allegedly choking the women, in front of her 3-year-old daughter, she snuck away from their residence to file charges with the Broome County Sheriff’s Office when Pudiak fell asleep. Deputies made contact with Pudiak and took him into custody without issue, they seized weapons that he was not allowed to possess, he was taken to the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Central Arraignment and charged with 5 counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing & menacing.
26 Year old Brandin VanTassel of Walton, was sentenced Monday in Delaware County Court for Criminal Contempt. VanTassel previously pleaded guilty to Criminal Contempt in February, with a 6 month sentence & 5 years’ probation supervision, he contacted the protected party again in violation of the order of protection, Delaware County Court Judge Gary Rosa ruled that as a result of the new conduct, the Court was not bound by the original plea agreement, VanTassel was re-sentenced to 1 and 1/3 to 4 years in state prison.
Governor Kathy Hochul announced over $70 million in financial assistance for water infrastructure improvement projects across New York State. The Village of Sidney received $565,312 short-term interest free financing and $887,469 in grants for the planning, design, and construction of wastewater treatment facility upgrades.
Bassett Healthcare & Helios Care are teaming up to bring Author Sallie Tisdale for a town hall event Today at 6:00 PM at the Bassett Medical Center’s Clark Auditorium, to talk about Advance Directives, Bassett Spokesman Tim Schaffer explains:

The Broome County Sheriff's Office is looking for Alexa Woolfolk, she is described as a white female, 5'3 tall, 145 pounds with brown hair and eyes, she is wanted on an outstanding warrant for probation violation and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Anyone with information to her location is asked to contact the Broome County Sheriff's Office at (607) 778-1911.
The state DEC is not doing enough to ensure rechargeable batteries are recycled as required by law, according to an audit by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Rechargeable batteries can contain toxic metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium, nickel and silver, and lithium-ion, all of which can pose a threat to the environment and human health and safety if they are not properly recycled. If they’re just put in the garbage and enter the waste stream, they can end up in landfills and their chemicals can leak into public water systems, lakes and streams. Lithium-ion batteries can ignite or explode if they are damaged in the waste stream and were the cause of a six-alarm fire on a trash barge in December 2021.
Catholic Charities in Sidney announced that their free Backpack with School Supplies giveaway will be available again this year, spokesperson Penny McKnight explains:

Preregistration begins July 11th by calling the Sidney Office of Catholic Charities at 607-604-4071, or by stopping by their office in the Sidney Civic Center.
The Norwich DRI Local Planning Committee will be holding their next meeting on Tuesday, July 12th at 3:30 PM in the Community Room at Commerce Chenango at 15 South Broad Street in Norwich. At this meeting, the LPC will officially vote on the final slate of projects to be recommended for DRI funding and included in Norwich’s Strategic Investment Plan. This meeting is open to all members of the public, with time reserved at the end of the meeting for public comment. The meeting will also be available through ZOOM.

Governor Kathy Hochul has signed a proclamation calling lawmakers back to Albany for a special session Today, after the Supreme Court deemed New York State’s concealed carry law unconstitutional because it required proper cause to carry a handgun outside a person’s home.
The State Health Department is reporting a slow increase in COVID 19 cases, with over 5800 positives tests out of over 72,000, for a 7.8.% positivity rate Tuesday. Patient Hospitalization have gone back over 2000 statewide, ICU patients were back up to 186, with 73 on ventilators, there were 12 deaths in hospitals & nursing homes.
State Police arrested 19-year-old Edward Gaydos for allegedly breaking into Smoker’s Choice in Oneonta. On June 26, state police were called to the scene around 2:30 AM, Gaydos was charged with 3rd-degree burglary, He was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on July 7.
The Chenango County Historical Society in Norwich has extended Saturday hours through October 8th and they are seeking volunteers. More information & a volunteer application can be found at ChenangoHistorical.org.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force arrested 29-year-old Jamell Shannon of Binghamton, 41 year old Charles Jones of new Hartford Connecticut and 30 year old Natasha Castillo of Binghamton on a variety of drug charges, following the execution of a narcotics search warrant at 15 Williams Street, in Binghamton. Police confiscated crack cocaine, marijuana, a digital scale used to weigh narcotics plus various prescription pain killers. Castillo was processed and released on an appearance ticket for City of Binghamton Court on a later date. Shannon and Jones are both being held at the Binghamton Police Department pending arraignment in the City of Binghamton Court.
Lawmakers wrapped up the state budget on time, and Governor Cuomo vetoed more spending out of the plan last week. Area assemblyman Bill Magee said that the agriculture fared well in the budget:

Prior to tonight’s meeting, the trailblazer award reception will be held at the Oneonta middle school cafeteria, where Charlotte McKane and Sarah Patterson will be honored by the city Commission on Community Relations and Human Rights. The common council meeting will also be held at the middle School cafeteria.
Hartwick College announced that they will host an Open House program on May 4th geared toward current high school juniors who are interested in becoming part of Hartwick's Class of 2018. The Open House will be on May 4th, it will provide opportunities to learn more about Hartwick's campus, academic (http://www.hartwick.edu/academics) and extracurricular offerings, to meet with Hartwick staff, tour the campus and learn about the 3 year degree program instituted a couple of years ago. Those who wish to sign up can do so at hartwick.edu

DiNapoli stated that his office found more than 6,300 improper filings this year, but has approved nearly four million refund requests. Another 271,000 refunds are expected to be paid in the coming days.
State police in Norwich arrested 24-year-old Justin McLain of Smithville, for 4th degree Criminal Mischief. The arrest resulted from an investigation into a disturbance on Scribner Lane in Smithville; McLain was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable in the Town of Smithville Court on April 23rd.
