Cooperstown & Charlotte Valley Railroad announced that they will hold a Milford Fire Benefit Train on August 17th, with 100% of ticket sales donated to the Milford Fire Victims Fund. Railroad President Bruce Hodges explains:

The State’s Division of Consumer Protection is providing consumers with tips to protect their money and financial information while using payment apps, after it was reported that last year, consumers nationwide reported over $390 million in losses to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission from App scams, which was about $100 million dollars more than the previous year. If you believe you made a payment to a scammer or find unauthorized payments on your account, report it to the mobile payment app and any bank involved, you can also report fraud to the FTC at reportfraud.ftc.gov and the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov.


20 Attorney's General including New York State, are suing the Trump Administration over its efforts to obtain data from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP. According to the lawsuit, the Department of Agriculture is improperly attempting to gather sensitive personal information from low-income families who use the program, including social security numbers and home addresses. New York Attorney General Letitia James reported that it was not the 1st time this administration has tried to use federal agencies to access Americans’ personal data, recently a federal judge declined to stop the IRS from sharing sensitive taxpayer information with federal immigration authorities.


This Thursday, July 31 is the deadline for New York State residents to register for the New York State Quitline’s “Quit-and-Win Contest.” Those 18 years of age or older who smoke or vape daily and commit to being tobacco-free for the first 25 days in August will have a chance to win $2,500 or one of 10 $250 prizes. The FBI announced that 44 year old Brent Trimbell of Hobart was arrested Sunday evening for sexual exploitation of a child. Trimbell is accused of exchanging sexually explicit messages with a female child victim, persuading her to create and send him videos of her engaged in sexually explicit conduct, having sexual contact with the victim at least 3 times and sending the victim sexually explicit videos. Trimbell was charged by state authorities with state sex offenses, but last week he was released on bail. If convicted, Trimbell faces 15 to 30 years in Jail, a term of supervised release of at least 5 years to life after serving a prison term, register as a sex offender, pay a fine of $250,000, forfeiture of property used to commit the offenses, and he would have to pay restitution to the victim. FBI officials worked with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and U.S. Attorney’s Office, Trimbell was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshals Service pending further proceedings.


State Police are investigating a death of a 16-year-old female following a medical emergency on Saturday, a Trooper responded to a residence on State Route 41 in McGraw, for an unresponsive juvenile, she was unconscious & CPR was already in progress, she was taken to Guthrie Cortland Medical Center & was pronounced deceased a short time later. An investigation by the State Police BCU is ongoing, more information will be released following an autopsy.


Governor Kathy Hochul announced that $25 million in State funding has been awarded to enhance safety, modernize operations, promote environmental resilience and enhance regional economic competitiveness at airports across New York. The funding includes the Greater Binghamton Airport / Link Field, which will receive $2.49 million to rehabilitate hangars.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Damon Sobers of Oneonta for 2nd degree Assault, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Menacing and Harassment, following an investigation into a domestic dispute in the Town of Oneonta. Deputies were told that the victim had struck in the head with the butt of the gun and suffered a large laceration to the face and that Sobers may be in possession of a firearm. Sobers was later taken into custody and was transported to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office & was being held pending arraignment.


U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand discussed the Trump administration’s cuts to federal agencies that protect seniors from frauds and scams:

Senator Gillibrand said that last year, seniors lost almost $5 billion to scammers; these financial losses can be devastating for older adults with limited income. Gillibrand has called on the Government Accountability Office to examine how cuts affect federal efforts to protect seniors from scams. State tax receipts totaled $33.2 billion through the first quarter of State Fiscal Year, about $580.5 million higher than the most recent Division of the Budget estimates. State tax collections were also $3.3 billion higher than last year's 1st quarter, according to State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute in the Town of Walton in May, 36-year-old Gerald Walke had engaged in a verbal domestic dispute and displayed a knife, while in the presence of two juveniles, the Town of Walton Court issued an Arrest Warrant, last week, Otsego County Sheriff’s Office located Walke, he was turned over to Delaware County Deputies & was charged with 2 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and 2 counts of Menacing, Walke was processed and turned over to the Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Arraignment.


State Police arrested 34 year old Kyle Packer of Oneonta on an arrest warrant for Burglary, Criminal Contempt, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, and Obstructing Governmental Administration. On June 12, Packer was involved in a domestic dispute in Edmeston where he violated an order of protection, unlawfully entered a home and struck a victim & left prior to the Trooper’s arrival. Troopers located Packer on June 24 in the town of New Berlin, where he fled on tractor into a wooded area. A Trooper observed Packer Tuesday in the town of Columbia, he was taken into custody and was processed then transported to the Otsego County Jail for Arraignment.


Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies conducting a traffic stop Sunday, the driver was unable to provide a valid driver’s license, K9 Dexter & Deputies located methamphetamine and illegal fireworks. Deputies identified the operator as 42 year old Ryan Fletcher of Delhi, Deputies determined that Fletcher's privileges to operate a motor vehicle were suspended. Fletcher was charged with Unlawful Possession of Fireworks, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, Criminal Impersonation & Aggravated Unlicensed Operator and various traffic violations, Fletcher was released on appearance tickets for Town of Delhi court at a later date.


The State Department of Transportation announced the exit 8 off-ramp from Interstate 88 West to State Route 206 in Bainbridge will be closed today for pavement repairs, from 8 am. to 2 pm. Drivers should follow the posted detour route using Exit 9, State Route 8 Northbound to State Route 7 Westbound to State Route 206.
