The Village of Sidney, along with officials with Delaware County & the Governors Office of Storm Recovery, will host a meeting on Wednesday December 14th at the Sidney High School Auditorium. The Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 28-year-old Justin Harrington of Sherburne, for Sexual Abuse, endangering the welfare of a child, and forcible touching. Harrington allegedly subjected a victim under the age of 13 to sexual contact on multiple occasions. He was arraigned in the Town of Sherburne Court and taken to the Chenango County Jail on $10,000 bail.
State Police arrested 28-year-old Ryan Markoff of Binghamton and 31-year-old Angela Weyrauch of Binghamton, for 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, after a traffic stop on Frost Road in the Town of Windsor. During a search of the suspects and their vehicle a small amount of marihuana, heroin and meth was found. Markoff was additional charged with Unlawful Possession of Marihuana and other traffic violations. Both suspects were issued tickets returnable to the Town of Windsor Court on December 28, 2016.

State Senator Jim Seward and Assemblyman Cliff Crouch will be in Delaware County, at 2:00 PM today at the Ouleout Creek Golf Course in North Franklin, for a highway dedication ceremony for fallen Marine Corps Corporal Nicholas Uzenski of Franklin, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2010 during Operation Enduring Freedom. Members of Corporal Uzenski’s family, local elected officials and law enforcement representatives will be on hand for the ceremony.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 24-year-old Michael Vogel of Delhi for DWI & several other traffic violations, following a hit and run accident on Scotch Mountain Road in the Town of Delhi. Witnesses at the scene described the vehicle Vogel was operating, and it was located shortly after on Main Street in Delhi. Vogel was found to be operating in an intoxicated state, he was arrested & was arraigned in the Town of Delhi Court, he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 secured bond.
On Thursday November 10th, Delaware County Sheriff Deputies responded to t a two car head on collision on Bobs Brook Road in the Town of Tompkins. The operators of both vehicles involved were each transported to Delaware Valley Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained from the collision. One of the operators identified as 68 year old Barbara Horton of Walton New York was issued and released on traffic tickets for aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 3rd degree, operating with a suspended registration, and operating a motor vehicle without active insurance. Deputies say that Horton’s license and registration were suspended as a result of the active insurance lapse. Horton is scheduled to appear at Tompkins Town Court at a later date to answer the charge.
The Delaware County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of Sal Ferone of Franklin Sunday, Investigators believe that Ferone may have may have been hit by a tractor he was operating at about 5:00 PM Sunday at east Handsome Brook Road. A local jogger reported the incident, Ferone was taken to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton, where he was declared dead, the investigation is continuing.
State Police responded Friday to a reported house fire at 215 Loughlin Road in the Town of Kirkwood which resulted in the death of one individual. The investigation revealed that 72 year old Roger Simma and 67 year old Lynn Tompkins were awakened by smoke and fire in the living room of the residence. Tompkins was able to exit the residence and was attempting to assist Simma’s exit through a bedroom window, but was unable to do do due to the fire conditions. Tompkins suffered severe burns and was transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital and later air lifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse where he was listed in stable, but critical condition. Simma was unable to escape the home and was later located deceased as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire was determined to be the faulty chimney of a wood burning stove.
The Oneonta city planning commission meeting scheduled for November 16th has been cancelled. The next regular meeting will be held on December 21st in the Common Council chambers at Oneonta City Hall at 7:00 PM.

State Police reported 242 arrests for DWI during the Halloween Crackdown on impaired driving. The campaign ran from Friday and ended Tuesday, State Troopers issued 11,497 total tickets, including 4,342 for speeding, 322 for distracted driving, 333 for child restraint and seatbelt violations, and 176 for failing to “move over.” Additionally, Troopers investigated a total of 1,111 crashes, with 227 people injured, and 3 people were killed.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 20-year-old James Hannigan of Hobart Saturday, on 1count of driving while ability impaired by drugs following a traffic stop in the Town of Meredith. Hannigan is additionally charged with failure to keep right, unlawful possession of marijuana, he was released on tickets returnable to Meredith Town Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 52-year-old John Coss, of Andes for falsely reporting an incident following an investigation into a 1-car motor vehicle accident on Rathbun Hill Road in the Town of Meredith. Deputies allege the defendant left the scene of a motor vehicle accident involving a rental vehicle after striking a tree, and later reported the vehicle stolen in an attempt to evade criminal action. Coss was later released on an appearance tickets for Delhi & Meredith Town Courts at later dates.

State Police are attempting to locate an unknown white male for questioning relative to a burglary on October 19th at a home on Bassett Road in the Town of Triangle. The suspect was wearing a baseball cap & was observed on surveillance video, which can be viewed on the State Police Facebook Page. 21-year-old Rebel Whitman of Binghamton man faces several charges, after allegedly trying to flee law enforcement. The Broome County Sheriff's Office attempted to stop a vehicle on Colesville Road near Route 11 in the Town of Kirkwood early this morning, Whitman allegedly failed to comply & continued to Sanitaria Springs, into Chenango County through back roads & then onto State Route 206 in the Town of Greene, where he sideswiped a State Police vehicle before traveling into a ditch. Whitman & a passenger were taken into custody, Whitman was charged with Forgery, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer, Reckless Driving, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, plus numerous other Violations. Whitman was arraigned in the Town of Kirkwood Court and taken to the Broome County Jail. Whitman's unidentified passenger was released.

Delaware County Deputies responded Monday to a report of a 1-car motor vehicle accident on State Hwy 28 in the Town of Franklin. Deputies arrived on scene to find a pick-up truck on its roof with the occupant still inside. 72-year-old John Condon of East Meredith drove off of the roadway, through a ditch, flipped over & landed back on the roadway on the vehicle’s roof. Condon was transported to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown. No tickets were issued.

Donald Rowe was charged with 2nd degree Burglary, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, also 39 year old Bobbie Jo Howell of Binghamton was charged with Hindering Prosecution, for allegedly hiding Rowe at her residence & lying to officers about his location, she was released on appearance ticket to Town of Dickinson court at a later date. Rowe was arraigned and was remanded to the Broome County Jail without Bail; further action is pending in Broome County Court.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported car & tractor trailer head on collision early Friday morning on Conklin Road in the Town of Conklin. A 2016 Jeep Compass operated by 43 year old Jason Demoney of Conklin crossed over into the opposing lane and struck a tractor trailer that was stopped on the shoulder of the road. Demoney was charged with felony DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Operating a motor vehicle without a required Ignition Interlock Device, plus other traffic violations, he faces court action at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 34 year old Justin Dumond of Oneonta Thursday, on 1 count of 3rd degree Assault, for allegedly assaulting another person on Leland Hull Road in the Town of Franklin in late August of 2016. Dumond was later arraigned at Franklin Town Court and was released on his own recognizance.

State police announced an arrest today in connection with the September 24th shooting on Carl Street in the Town of Union that injured 1 male subject, who was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City. Initially, 4 subjects were taken into custody & were released. Today state Police arrested 35-year-old Paul Warner of Endicott for Attempted Murder. Warner was arraigned & was remanded to the Broome County jail without bail. The investigation is ongoing.
State Police arrested 30-year-old Anthony Hebbard of Treadwell for Aggravated DWI with a B.A.C. result of .25%. Troopers responded to a 2-car crash on County Route 14 in the Town of Franklin. An investigation determined that Hebbard was driving while highly intoxicated when he crashed into a car that was driving just ahead of him, and caused that car to drive into a ditch. Hebbard was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Franklin Court on October 13, 2016.
State Police announced that Tierra Scott was back in custody after she escaped police custody & stole a Trooper’s vehicle. State Police reported that a Trooper was delivering Scott to the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office when she removed her restraints. The Trooper left the vehicle to take her into the office when she climbed into the driver’s seat and locked the doors, & drove off, dragging the Trooper for a short distance. The unidentified Trooper suffered minor injuries; the patrol car was found on Wetsel Hollow Road in the town of Schoharie. State Police had Scott back in custody Sunday evening.

State Police arrested 37 year old John Schreiber of Otego for aggravated family offense, endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful imprisonment, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation and driving while intoxicated, after troopers responded to a report of a dispute in the Town of Otego. Schreiber allegedly choked the victim & would not let her and her 3 children leave or call for help, he left & then returned & was arrested by troopers. Schreiber was arraigned in the Town of Laurens court and was remanded to the Otsego County jail in lieu of $7,500 cash bail or $15,000 property bond, pending future court action.

State Police responded to a car & tractor trailer fatal crash on State Route 90 in the Town of Homer. A 61 year old Cortland man was driving a Subaru southbound, he drifted into the northbound lane and struck a tractor trailer driven by 48 year old Michael Gross of Norwich. Police said that the Subaru spun off the southbound shoulder and came to rest, the tractor trailer crossed over the southbound lanes and came to rest in a swamp, diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway, and the tractor began to burn. The unidentified Cortland man was declared dead at the scene, Gross was transported to Upstate Medical for non-life threatening injuries. The deceased driver’s name is not being released pending family notification.

A Broome County Grand Jury indicted 22 year old Drew Townsend of Endwell for Attempted Murder, for allegedly attempting to beat & choke a 43 year old woman to death. Townsend was indicted on charges of Assault, Strangulation, and Criminal Contempt. Townsend is being held in the Broome County Jail without bail.

Fire fighters from several area departments responded this morning to a structure fire on Main Street in Delhi. The fire began at about 6:30 this morning in the kitchen of Village Pizzeria at 106 Main Street, it eventually spread to an adjacent antiques store. Main Street has been closed off & the Delaware County Courthouse has cancelled all activity today due to a loss of electrical power. Delaware County Emergency Services department reported that fire fighters from Manpower and Apparatus from Delhi, Andes, Bloomville, Bovina, Franklin, Margaretville, Meridale, Oneonta, Pindars Corners, Sidney, Walton, & Wells Bridge responded, 1 firefighter fell on stairs & suffered minor injuries.

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman today announced the sentencing of Donald McManus of Apalachin, following allegations that McManus pocketed $8,200 worth of the proceeds from the sale of leftover copper used as part of the East Campus dorm construction at SUNY Binghamton. McManus was sentenced in Vestal Town Court to 3 years of probation; McManus must pay restitution to SUNY Binghamton in the amount of $8,256.59, and is prohibited from working in a construction job or in any capacity for SUNY Binghamton. McManus entered a plea of guilty on March 4th, to 4th degree Attempted Grand Larceny.

Closing arguments began earlier today in Broome County Court in the Murder trial of Almond Upton of Florida. Upton was on trial for 1st degree murder for the intentionally running down Trooper Christopher Skinner, while he was conducting an unrelated traffic stop on I-81 in the town of Chenango in May 2014. At the conclusion of closing arguments, the jury will begin deliberations.
Attorney General Eric Schneiderman announced the arrest and arraignment of 4 former employees of Focus Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Cooperstown, who are accused of leaving a 94-year-old patient left in a recliner with substandard care for 41 hours over the Memorial Day weekend in May. Lorraine Caldwell, of Holland Patent, Amanda Gus of Hartwick, Sarah Schuyler of Mohawk and Donna Gray, of Sidney were charged with Falsifying Business Records, Endangering the Welfare of an Incompetent or Physically Disabled Person & Willful Violation of Health Laws, all 4 were arraigned in Town of Otsego Court & were released on their own recognizance.
State Police at Sidney arrested 62-year-old James Jordan of Otego for menacing & criminal mischief, after troopers responded to a report of a fight at a home on State Route 7 in the Town of Otego. Jordan was in a physical dispute with another man while in his garage, when he allegedly grabbed an axe and threatened the other man with it, & for smashing the taillight on the man’s Volkswagen Jetta. Jordan left the scene but was located nearby and arrested, he was arraigned in Town of Otego court and was released without bail required. His next court date in the Town of Otego is on August 25th.

State Police arrested 29-Year-old Terence Ito of Walton for reckless endangerment, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, criminal mischief and harassment. This arrest occurred after troopers responded to a dispute on Palmer Hill Road in the Town of Franklin, where Ito allegedly struck his pregnant wife in the stomach in front of their 2 young children & interfered when she attempted to call the police for help. Ito was arraigned in the adjoining Town of Sidney court and was released without bail being required. An order of protection was issued.
State Police arrested 42-year-old Gwen Raake of Acworth, Georgia for DWI and other traffic violations. Raake is accused of speeding at 78 miles per hour on I-88 in the Town of Oneonta, while intoxicated. Raake was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Oneonta court on July 5th.

Troopers responded to a Delaware County 911 report of a van driving the wrong way on State Route 17 in the Town of Hancock. Begin was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Hancock on July 18th.
A Bobcat has tested positive for rabies in the town of Tompkins, the first animal testing positive for rabies in 2016, according to Delaware County Public Health Services. The Bobcat was sent to the State Rabies Laboratory for testing, there was no human exposure, a dog that was exposed to the rabid Bobcat was immunized against rabies, and is not in danger of contracting the disease. Delaware County Public Health announced that the next scheduled rabies clinic is at the Masonville Fire Hall on June 29th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. 31-year-old Dennis Gellat of Earlville has been arrested in connection with the robbery at the NBT Bank in Edmeston on May 23rd. The Otsego County Sheriff's Department reported that Gelatt was arrested Sunday night and charged with 2nd-degree robbery after deputies from Otsego and Madison counties executed a search warrant at his residence. Gelatt was arraigned in the Edmeston Town Court and he was sent to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail.
On Friday morning, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of 3 suspicious men on the DCMO BOCES Harold Campus in Masonville. Deputies located 3 adult males in a vehicle parked area near the auto mechanic shops, the driver was 21 year old George Robinson, Jr., of Delhi was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. A passenger, 29-year-old Jonathan Gutliph of Hamden, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, for allegedly possessing prescription medications. An unidentified 18-year-old Delhi male was also ticketed for having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle; all 3 were processed and released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Masonville Court at a later date. State Police and Village of Walton Police assisted with the investigation.
Delaware County Deputies arrested 57-year-old John O’Connor of Meredith last Wednesday for Reckless Endangerment, for allegedly passing 2 school buses on the morning of June 1st in the Town of Franklin. Deputies reported that as O’Connor passed the 2nd school bus children were about to walk across the street. O’Connor was issued traffic summons & an appearance ticket for Town of Franklin Court on June 23rd.

Oneonta Police, State Police BCI, State University Police at Oneonta and the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department with K9 Ozzie, served a search warrant at 9-11 Elm Street in Oneonta Thursday. Police seized marijuana, prescription medication and $4,000 cash, they arrested 21 year old Glen Carey, from Malverne, 21 year old Gregory Garcia of Franklin Square, 21 year old Nicholas Monaco of Nyack for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. the 3 are accused of possessing Xanax Pills, Marijuana, counterfeit $50 bills, they were being held pending arraignment in the City of Oneonta Court.
The General Clinton Canoe Regatta will be held over the Memorial Day Weekend in May again this year, with paddlers coming from all over the participate. Regatta Chairman John Harmon told WCDO News that there are a few new features this year:

The Delaware County Home and Garden Show will be held on Saturday, May 14, at the American Legion Hall in Delhi. State Senator Jim Seward disclosed that he was diagnosed with bladder cancer earlier this year at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown. Seward successfully underwent surgery on Wednesday at Albany Medical Center, the cancer was found in its earliest stages, is completely curable, and a complete recovery in anticipated. Seward will miss some senate activities, but is expected to be back up to full speed in a matter of weeks; his staff will keep full office hours & assist constituents as needed.

State Police arrested 29-year-old Gregory Flanagan of Oneonta for felony DWI and several other traffic tickets Saturday. Flanagan was observed moving from his lane unsafely as he was driving on State Route 23 in the Town of Oneonta. An investigation determined that he was driving while intoxicated. This arrest was a felony because Flanagan has a prior conviction for DWI within the last 10 years. He refused to submit to a breath test to determine his blood alcohol content. Flanagan was arraigned in the Town of Oneonta court and was released without bail required. His next court date in the Town of Oneonta is on April 7, 2016.
The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 50-year-old Clifton Brooks for multiple drug related offenses in the Town of Norwich. Brooks was brought to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on drug related charges by the Village of Greene Police Department, While being processed into the facility, Correctional Officers located Crack Cocaine and Heroin, some of which was in a foot bandage. Brooks was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Introducing Prison Contraband, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, he is being held in the Chenango County Jail and will appear in the Town of Norwich Court for arraignment Thursday.

Delaware County Deputies arrested 33-year-old Christopher Pashley & 32-year-old Kimberly Pashley of Franklin for 1 count each of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. It is alleged that both illegally possessed Suboxone in the Town of Franklin. They both are currently located in the Delaware County Correctional Facility and will be arraigned at the Town of Franklin Court at a later date. Deputies additionally charged Kimberly Pashley for 1 count of Criminal Possession of a controlled substance, for allegedly possessing a controlled substance when probation officers took her into custody on the other charges, she is being held in the Delaware County Jail & will be arraigned on the new charge in Town of Franklin Court at a later date.
