47 year old Neil Wesley was sentenced to 25 years in prison for receipt and possession of child pornography in US District Court. As part of his guilty plea, Wesley admitted he had been previously convicted of rape in New York in 2001, he also admitted that from at least December 2024 through February 2025 he received and distributed child pornography & he possessed over 200 images and 18 videos of child pornography. In addition to the 25-year imprisonment term, United States District Judge Anthony J. Brindisi imposed 15 years of supervised release, forfeiture and directed restitution to victims of the offense.

60 year old Robert Scott of Binghamton, was indicted in US District Court on a charge of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and crack cocaine. According to the indictment, on October 30, 2025, Scott possessed with the intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl and 28 grams or more of crack cocaine. Scott was also on federal probation at the time of the offense. The charge filed against Scott carries a minimum sentence of 5 years in prison and a maximum sentence of up to 40 years in prison, a fine of up to $5,000,000, and a period of supervised release of at least 4 years and up to life, if convicted.

The US Marines announced that their Toys for Tots New York Holiday Train will go through the Southern Tier this Saturday, starting at the East Binghamton Yard, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM, it will then head to Bainbridge at the Walnut Avenue Crossing, at about 11:50 AM, there will be free donuts, hot chocolate, kids' activities, music, giveaways, and more. Chobani announced that at the East Park Bandstand in Norwich last Saturday, following the 30th annual Norwich Parade of Lights, More than 30 Chobani volunteers distributed 3,000 cases of Chobani products, to thank the community. New York Secretary of State Walter Mosley announced the groundbreaking of a $8.3 million boutique hotel in Norwich as part of the City’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative . The Principle Hotel will have 61 rooms and feature a rooftop lounge, restaurant and event room, The 12,000 square-foot property at 14-16 South Broad Street, was once part of the SUNY Morrisville campus. In addition to the hotel, other DRI projects in Norwich include the Rehabilitation of the Unguentine Building, Improve East and West parks: Upgrade the Martin W. Kappel Theater, Enhance the American Avenue Streetscape & Rehabilitate the Heritage Building.
On October 16 at 10:48 p.m., Otsego County requested Forest Ranger assistance in the search for a hunter reported missing by his spouse. The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office, Otsego County Emergency Services, Garratsville Fire Department, Laurens Fire Department, New York State Police, and New York State Park Police and staff all joined the search efforts in Gilbert Lake State Park. Otsego County Sheriff’s Deputy’s located the 67-year-old from Remsen deceased in a tree stand. Rangers used a rope system to help extricate the subject and turned them over to the county coroner, the cause of death has not been released.

The FBI arrested 59 year old Peter Bardunias of Clifton Park, for attempting to entice a minor to engage in prohibited sexual activity. The complaint alleges that over the past 2 weeks, Bardunias, who is a Senior Vice President with the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce, sent messages to an individual he believed to be a 15 year-old girl during which he discussed violent and sadistic sexual activity, however the individual was an undercover law enforcement official. Bardunias traveled to meet the would-be minor and was taken into custody. A federal search warrant executed at Bardunias’ residence found sex toys, restraints and a knife, he was ordered held in by a Federal Court judge Tuesday pending a detention hearing set for this Friday.

The Norwich Police Department & Sherburne Police Department announces the apprehension of 42 year old Derek Balcom of Norwich, following a coordinated investigation and arrest operation. Balcom was charged with 2nd degree Assault, Grand Larceny, Conspiracy, Resisting Arrest, & Obstruction of Governmental Administration, On July 2nd, Balcom is accused of unlawfully entered the premises of UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital and stole a side-by-side UTV, on July 4th, he allegedly entered the property of a local business, obtaining keys to fleet vehicles before fleeing the scene. Balcom was located today in Sherburne, he fled from officers and fought with law enforcement, resulting in injuries to a Norwich Detective. Balcom was arraigned and is being held with no bail.
The Delaware County Department of Emergency Services announced the passing of East Branch Fire Department Assistant Chief Jason McGlone. The East Branch Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle crash, in the course of his duties, Assistant Chief McGlone suffered traumatic injuries, medical attention was rendered on scene, but he succumbed to his injuries.

State Police arrested 52 year old Lawrence Slater of Norwich, after a Chenango County Grand Jury indictment. Slater was operating a vehicle on April 12th and crashed into an on-coming vehicle driven by 62 year old Steven Biviano of Oxford, who was pronounced dead at the scene, on State Highway 12 in the town of Oxford. Slater was operating the vehicle with a BAC of .18%, he was charged with Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, Manslaughter, Vehicular Manslaughter, Felony DWI & Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, he was was arraigned in Chenango County Supreme Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $25,000 cash bail, or $50,000 bond.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Joseph Amaro of Cooperstown & 43 Year Old Cricket Miller of Oxford, for charges related to a recent vehicle pursuit following an attempted traffic stop in Norwich. Amaro drove erratically, and Miller threw items at a patrol vehicle, causing several thousand dollars’ worth of damage. The pursuit ended in Ilion in Herkimer County, after Amaro’s vehicle struck a uniformed member of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office, causing injuries. Amaro was charged with Obstruction, Conspiracy, Resisting Arrest, 2nd degree Assault Criminal Mischief, Unlawful Fleeing & Reckless Endangerment, as well as 74 Vehicle and Traffic Law citations, Miller was charged with Conspiracy, Criminal Mischief, Reckless Endangerment, Obstruction & Resisting Arrest, plus 8 citations for violating Vehicle & Traffic laws. Both were arraigned & remanded to the Chenango County Jail pending future court action.

An Endicott man is facing a felony charge after allegedly stealing 27 iPhones from a FedEx facility while working for the company. Last Friday the Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded to a larceny complaint at FedEx Freight East, at Industrial Park Drive in the Town of Kirkwood. Security at the facility advised that someone had been stealing from iPhones since April by sneaking them out of the facility in his coat pocket. After reviewing footage, 22 year old Leon Roberts of Endicott was charged with 3rd degree Grand Larceny. Roberts was arraigned at Central Arraignment Part and released with an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court.

The Project would add another 1000 jobs in addition to the 1100 jobs at the South Edmeston & Norwich facilities. Chobani also employs 1,100 people at a yogurt plant in Twin Falls, Idaho, and they recently announced an expansion in Twin Falls that is expected to create a minimum of 160 new jobs.

On Saturday, evening, Broome County Sheriff's Office responded to a one-car accident on I-88 East near Exit 3 Port Crane. The responding deputy found a juvenile passenger from the crashed vehicle alert and conscious, being tended to by a bystander after having crawled out of the wreck. The deputy successfully located the crashed vehicle on an embankment, on its roof with the driver trapped inside, the deputy cut the driver’s seat belt and successfully pulled the driver out, both were transported to UHS Wilson Medical Center, The initial investigation showed that the driver had been driving recklessly at a high rate of speed before crashing into the right side of an embankment. The driver was initially issued several traffic violations, but the accident is still under investigation.

Titsworth was charged as being a Fugitive from Justice, plus 3 Counts Failure to Register as Sex Offender, Titsworth absconded from New York in 2024 and has been wanted by Norwich Police since that time. Norwich Police Officers traveled to Kentucky and bring Titsworth back to Norwich, Monday evening, he was arraigned and was held without bail due to multiple, prior felony convictions.

State Police arrested 24 Year Old Fiona Taylor of Norwich & 47 year old Lauren McKinley of Norwich in connection with a case of animal neglect in Chenango County last month. On January 22nd, 56 animals were removed from a property on Mudge King Road in the town of North Norwich. During the execution of a search warrant, 30 horses, a pig, 7 sheep, 4 goats, 4 chickens, 7 dogs and 3 cats were in need of immediate care and were transported to various local animal rescue locations, 12 dead animals were observed on the property that included horses, goats, pigs and chickens. Taylor & McKinley have been charged with 16 counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and 65 counts of Overdriving, Torturing and Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance Both women were issued appearance tickets and are scheduled to appear at the North Norwich Town Court on February 26th.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 31 year old Skyler Smith of East Meredith for Criminal Possession of a Weapon. On Saturday Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Smith, who was found to be in possession of an illegal switchblade knife. Smith was additionally charged for a traffic violation and was released on appearance tickets and is to appear in the Town Delhi Court at a later date to answer the said charges.

Norwich Police Department concluded a five-month long investigation into the sexual desecration of a deceased woman in the City of Norwich. 45 Year Old Mark Randall of Norwich was charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence & Sexual Misconduct, On May 1st, 2024, the Norwich Police Department responded to 12 Columbia Street for the unattended death of a 71-year-old female, Norwich Police Detectives, along with the State Police Forensic Investigation Unit collected evidence from the residence, they accuse Randall of performing sexual acts on the deceased woman multiple times, over a period of several hours. Randall is a Level 3 Sex Offender, he was arraigned at Norwich City Court and held on $25,000 bail to reappear at a later date.

34 year old Jade Pittsley of Binghamton pleaded guilty Thursday in Federal Court to escaping from federal custody and possessing and intending to distribute methamphetamine. Pittsley was serving a federal term of imprisonment for a drug offense involving methamphetamine in November 2023 and at the time of the crime, she was under the supervision of a halfway house, she failed to return & law enforcement took her into custody, she faces sentencing on December 30th, Pittsley faces a minimum term of 5 years and up to life in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of at least 4 years.

State Police Troop “C” Traffic Incident Management unit in partnership with the Department of Transportation held an Operation Hard Hat enforcement in Windsor along State Highway 17 east between exits 78 and 79. In just over four hours, 75 tickets were issued, 58 for Speeding, including 1 person was observed and ticketed for traveling 92 mph in the 55 mph active work zone.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched on March 4th to a 1 car motor vehicle accident located on East Hubbell Hill Road, in the Town of Middletown. 25-year-old Filemon Garcia Jr., of Middletown, lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and entered into a ditch, causing damage to private property. Following the investigation and the results of toxicology report, Deputies arrested Garcia this week for DWI, Aggravated DWI with a BAC of .18% or above, Consumption of Alcohol in a Motor vehicle, speed not reasonable and prudent, among other charges, he was released & was ordered to appear in the Town of Middletown Court at a later date.

Rochester Police Chief David Smith gave updates today regarding the January 1st 12:50 AM crash & explosion of 2 SUV's outside the Kodak Center Parking lot. Rochester Police & the FBI investigated the possibility of a terrorist act as there were numerous gas cans in the suspects rented vehicle. The suspect, Michael Avery of Syracuse may have suffered from undiagnosed mental health problems, he died Monday night in an area hospital, 2 other people died in the incident. The investigation revealed that Avery drove to Rochester on Wednesday, checked into a hotel, renting the SUV at the local airport, bought several gas cans & gasoline, Police on the scene said that he sped up as Police were guiding motorists out of the concert venue parking lot. Avery did not leave behind any terrorist manifesto, but the investigation is continuing.
The Colorscape Chenango Arts Festival Board of Directors has named Michele Ericksen as the new Executive Director, replacing Celeste Friend who had been the Executive Director since 2017. A 17 year old from North Carolina was taken into custody after the Southern Tier SWAT Team executed a search warrant in the Town of Union. On Friday, Broome County Sheriff’s Office acted on information gathered by the US Marshal’s to apprehend a 17-year-old male, who is accused of killing 2 people in Mount Holly, North Carolina last month. The fugitive was at 122 Pierce Avenue, he was apprehended after Deputies executed a search warrant & he was taken into custody without incident.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 3 men on December 22nd, in Kirkwood, after Deputies responded to a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident at a trailer park, they arrived to a dispute involving over a dozen individuals. 21 year old Guy Conklin of Binghamton is accused of threatening to shoot several individuals, driving into a parked car, leaving the scene and returning with 3 passengers in his vehicle. 19 year old Keith Palmer of Binghamton, was in possession of an illegal “Ghost Gun” & controlled substances. 27 year old Christopher Cady of Binghamton, was found to possess drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance, he gave police a false name, he was wanted on a warrant out of Pennsylvania on drug charges. Conklin, Palmer and Cady were arrested on a variety of charges, Conklin & Palmer were released on appearance tickets, Cady was held for extradition by the Monroe County Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Office.
The FBI has been called in to investigate a 2 vehicle crash outside the Kodak Center in Rochester at 12:50 AM Monday as possible act of terrorism. 2 people were killed and 5 injured when 2 SUV's collided outside the parking lot as concertgoers were leaving the venue.

The United States Marine Corps Reserve today announced the schedule for the 2023 U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Train. The holiday train will take to the rails Saturday, Locally, the train will stop in Oneonta at the Gas Avenue Rail Crossing, from 12:05 pm. to 12:40 pm. The train will be in Bainbridge at the Walnut Street Rail Crossing, from 1:30 pm. to 2:00 pm. The train's schedule ends at the East Binghamton Yard Entrance, 3:20 pm. to 4:00 pm.

An investigation revealed that while volunteering for the Windsor Town Fair, Congdon made several unauthorized debit card purchases and cash withdrawals totaling over $10,000 between May and September 2023. Congdon was arrested and then turned over to the Broome County Correctional Facility for Arraignment. On September 29, Congdon was arrested for 2nd degree Grand Larceny, for allegedly stealing over $50,000 from the nonprofit, Punch Out Parkinson’s Inc.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 21 year old Bryce Barnhart of Cortland following a motor vehicle pursuit which began in the Town of Springfield and continued into Schoharie County on Tuesday. Barnhart was charged with Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer, Failure To Comply, Reckless Driving & Speeding & Speeding in a Construction Zone, he is accused of traveling up to 118 miles on U.S. Highway 20 in the Town of Springfield, & for hitting another vehicle while exiting a parking lot.
