UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital is half a million dollars
closer to its capital campaign goal thanks to a $500,000 commitment from the
Roger Follett Foundation this week.  CMH

Stagnaro said that the Follett foundation gift will be paid
out over the next 5 five years, it follows similar commitments from Blueox,
NBT, Preferred Mutual Insurance company since the capital campaign started in
August.


DTC will be holding their next "Meet & Greet"
at the Trout Creek firehouse tomorrow, for town of Tompkins residents.  Valerie Nichols of DTC Explains:

The Meet & Greet will run from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM,
Nichols estimates that DTC Will be donating $5,000 to the trout Creek Fire
Department.


Krystal Lee “The Country Sweetheart” from East Meredith is
in Tennessee this weekend; she had been nominated in 2 categories for the Josie
Music Awards at Dollywood after submitting videos of her performing original
songs.  Krystal was nominated for the
Young Adult Female Vocalist of the Year and the Songwriter Achievement Award in
the Modern country category. Krystal earned her nominations for her original
song titled “No more sometimes”.


The Sidney Police Department, Delaware County Sheriff's
Office and State Police conducted a vehicle and traffic law detail Thursday
from 5:00 to 10:00 PM. The goal of the detail was to take drunk and drugged
drivers off the road as well as enforce vehicle and traffic laws, 15 traffic
tickets were issued which included 2 arrests for aggravated unlicensed
operation.


The Afton VFW is hosting the Veterans Awareness festival
tomorrow.  The event will start at 8:00
AM with a breakfast, at 187 Main Street in Afton, more information is available

The Tri-County Chapter of New York State Women Inc. is
sponsoring an AMBA scholarship fundraiser Saturday in Sidney.  The Amba Clinic will be held from 6:00 AM to

The Afton United Methodist
Church Fall Craft & Vendor Show will be held Saturday from 9:00 AM to 3:00

The Otsego County Planning Department has announced their
22nd Annual Household Hazardous Waste Days.
The 1st collection day will be Today at the Unadilla Town Barn from 8:00
AM to 11:00 AM; the 2nd day will be at the Cooperstown Meadows Office Complex
tomorrow from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM.  There
will be a small fee for businesses wishing to participate; more information is

The Otsego County Democrats will hold their Annual Dinner
& Silent Auction on Saturday evening.

The 3rd Annual Uncle Bear Memorial Truck Show will be held

The 10th Annual Sidney Center Tractor Parade will be held
tomorrow through the hamlet of Sidney Center.
The parade is open to anyone with tractors, doodlebugs, antique or
muscle cars, participants can line up at Firemen’s Field between 9:00 AM &
11:45 Am, the parade starts at 12:00 Noon.

Hartwick College will honor a pair of local benefactors
during their True Blue Weekend tomorrow.
The late Clyde and Mildred Wright will be honored with the naming of
Hartwick’s new turf athletic field at Wright Stadium.   All men’s sporting events played at the
stadium will take place on “The Clyde;” all women’s sporting events will play

Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond announced the arrest of
7 people on a variety of drug charges Thursday afternoon after the execution of
a search warrant at 37 Union Street in Sidney.
Deputies & Investigators dismantled a large scale Methamphetamine trafficking
operation, they arrested William McLean, Nikita Kingsbury, Trevor Light and an
unidentified 17 year male from Sidney, plus Jeffrey Robinson of Norwich, and Kevin
Mosher & Gina Overbey, who had no known address.  Sheriff Dumond comments:

Sheriff Dumond said that the arrests followed a month long investigation;
all were charged with 2nd degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance
they were arraigned in Delhi Court & were remanded to the Delaware County
Jail without bail pending future court action, additional charges are anticipated
& the investigation is ongoing.
Sidney Village Police assisted at the scene.


State Police are investigating a crash in the town of
Franklin that left 2 teenagers in serious condition.  Troopers were dispatched Thursday afternoon at
about 4:30 PM to Walley Road in the town of Franklin; they located a Chevy
pick-up truck with a 17-year-old male driver and 14-year-old male passenger
crashed into a tree.  The investigation
revealed that speed was a contributing factor when the unidentified 17-year-old
lost control of the vehicle around a curve on Wally Road, spun off the roadway
and into a tree.  Both occupants were
transported by LifeNet to Albany Medical Center.   The accident remains under
investigation.


State police are investigating a sewage spill that Thursday
afternoon at about 2:30 PM on County Route 10 near Elk Creek Road in the town
of Meredith.  The unidentified Driver of
the septic tanker was taken to Fox Hospital for evaluation, the driver rolled
the septic tanker, which spilled about 2,000 gallons of sewage, & struck a utility
Pole, temporarily knocking out phone & electric service in the east Meredith
area.  The septic tanker belonged to JB’s
Line Cleaning and Plumbing Service, the cause of the accident is under
investigation.


State Police responded to an early morning crash at
approximately 4:40 AM today on State Highway 12 near Phetteplace Road in the
town of Norwich.  The investigation
revealed that a 42-year-old male from Chittenango operating a delivery truck crossed
over the yellow lines & struck a tractor trailer head-on, the tractor trailer
burst into flames on contact.  The driver
of the tractor trailer was a 45-year-old male from Lisle.  Troopers reported that the delivery van driver
was transported to Wilson Memorial and later moved to Upstate Medical in
Syracuse, sustaining non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor
trailer was not injured.   State route 12
was closed for about 7 hours for the investigation & clean up; the roadway
was re-opened shortly before noon.  More
information will be released as it is made available. The accident remains
under investigation.


The Sidney Central School District announced a change in how
school tax bills are collected. Officials said that NBT Bank will no longer be
collecting Sidney school taxes, mailed checks should go to the Sidney Central
School District, Attention Tax Collector, 95 West Main Street Sidney

Governor Cuomo today announced
that the New York State Board for Historic Preservation has recommended adding
14 properties to the State and National Registers of Historic Places. In the
Southern Tier, the First Presbyterian Church of Deposit, Built in 1880, has
been recommended by the Governor.

Chenango County Officials announced that State Route 12
between Halfway House Road in the town of Norwich & State Route 220 is
closed, due to a 2 vehicle head on crash between a Van & A Tractor
Trailer.   The road will be closed for
several hours for the cleanup & investigation; motorists are advised to use
Chenango County Route 32 as a detour.


The Delaware County Democratic Committee announced that
Congressman Antonio Delgado, State Senator Jen Metzger and local candidates
will attend their Annual Community Barbecue on Sunday, September 8th from 2:00
to 5:00 PM at the Hamden Town Pavilion.

Governor Cuomo today signed legislation prohibiting the manufacture, transport, shipment, and possession of knives that are undetectable by a metal detector. Possession of such weapons will now be considered a Class A misdemeanor and is punishable by up to a year in jail.  Members of the military and police officers may continue to carry these weapons for official use.  The law goes into effect on November 1, 2019.


Delaware County Public Health will hold another Free Rabies
Vaccination Clinic for dogs, cats and ferrets today at 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at
Walton Highway Garage on State Route 10.

Governor Cuomo signed legislation authorizing school
districts to install stop-arm cameras on school buses in order to catch drivers
who unlawfully pass a stopped school bus. In New York State, approximately 1.5
million students ride school buses to and from school every year, However,
Operation Safe Stop in April 2018 exposed that hundreds of people ignore this
law and over 850 people were ticketed in 1 day.


The Delaware County Democratic Committee announced that
Congressman Antonio Delgado, State Senator Jen Metzger and local candidates
will attend their Annual Community Barbecue on Sunday, September 8th from 2:00
to 5:00 PM at the Hamden Town Pavilion.

The 11th Annual Susquehanna Balloon Festival at NEAHWA PARK

The Chenango County Department
of Public Works closed County Road 17 between State Route 41 and Loomis Road in
the Town of Afton today for the replacement of a large culvert. The work is
expected to take 3 to 5 days, Drivers should seek alternate routes. Local
residents will be allowed to travel to and from their homes. More information

22nd District Congressman Anthony Brindisi will hold a rural
broadband town hall in Chenango County This afternoon.  The event will begin at 4:45 pm at
Sherburne-Earlville Middle School. This event is free and open to all members
of the community.


The New York State Office of Mental Health announced the
adoption of regulatory amendments that will allow for an expansion of the
state’s crisis response system while emphasizing person-centered recovery and
rehabilitation in the community.
Crisis Residential programs are available to all New Yorkers, including
children and adults, regardless of the ability to pay.  The goals of a crisis management system are
to: maintain people safely in the community, reduce unnecessary emergency room
visits and inpatient hospitalizations & coordinate information sharing
among clinicians, patients, & family members to reflect patient
preferences.

State lawmakers will begin the 2019 session today in
Albany.  Both Houses of the legislature
and the Governor's position will be in Democratic Party control for the first
time since 2010.  History was also made
today, as Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins of Yonkers, became the First Woman
Senate Majority Leader in State History.


Jury selection began Tuesday & continued today in Broome
County Court for the re-trial of Aaron Powell of Binghamton.  Powell was convicted of murdering 35-year-old
Christina Powell and 24-year-old Mario Masciarelli in 2013 at Christina
Powell’s' residence, a new trial was ordered due to a conflict of interest
involving one of the original jurors, who had worked on the divorce & child
cases for the Powell's. Aaron Powell had been sentenced to life without parole
in the original conviction.


The next meetings for the General Clinton Canoe Regatta
committees next meeting will be Tuesday February 5th.  The Race committee meeting will begin at
6:30, The General meeting begins at 7:30, at the Galaxy Bowl in Bainbridge.


The Delaware County Tourism Advisory Board is now accepting
applications for funding under the Tourism Promotion & Development Grant
program.  This program will provide
funding assistance to eligible applicants for projects that seek to attract
visitors to Delaware County and enhance the overall tourism industry.  Applications for grant assistance under this
program must be hand-delivered to the Delaware County Department of Economic

Michael Lang, who co-organized the original Woodstock Music
& Arts Festival in Bethel in 1969, announced today that he will be
organizing the "Official" 50th anniversary celebration at Watkins
Glen International Raceway.  The festival
will be held August 16th through the 18th, another celebration will be held at
Bethel Woods, on the same weekend, the original Woodstock Festival was held at
that site in 1969.  No musical acts have
been announced to play at either venue yet.


Winter weather is expected to hit other parts of the state
in the next 48 hours; the tri-county area should be able to miss large
accumulations, according to area meteorologist Rich Townshend:

Western New York & the
Adirondacks are gearing up for more serious accumulations, with some areas
expecting up to 20 inches of snowfall.

Congressman Anthony Brindisi announced plans for his first
town hall as a member of Congress. Brindisi will meet with Broome County
constituents at 6pm on Tuesday, January 22 at American Legion Post at 39 Louisa
Street in Binghamton. The event is free and open to all members of the
community.  Brindisi will hold a town
hall each month, visiting every county in the district in 2019.
