The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that 39-year-old Lucinda Knoll has died, from injuries sustained in an attack early Friday morning. Knoll’s former boyfriend, 48-year-old William Danielson of Oxford is now charged with 2nd degree Murder & he was arraigned on the new charge this morning & continues to be held in the Chenango County jail without bail. Anyone with information about the early Friday morning attack at the Maple Grove Trailer Park in Norwich is asked to call the sheriff’s department at 337-1921 or 337-1863.
Nearly a year after passage of the state’s new gun law, dealer sales of AR-15 semi-automatic rifles have ended in New York, and arrest data show more than 1,000 gun possession charges were boosted from misdemeanors to felonies because of the changes. 59 people were charged statewide for possessing large-capacity magazines. A report from the Division of Criminal Justice Services shows only one person charged with the illegal sale or transfer of a gun defined as an assault weapon as of mid-December. Owners may keep their older weapons but must register them by April 15th.

Hundreds turned up to Bainbridge Saturday afternoon, to see the Toys for Tots Train make its annual appearance, and to donate more toys for the cause, which lost about $8,000 dollars worth pf toys in a fire November 29th in Norwich. State Police CNET unit announced the arrests of 34-year-old Tiawanna Willard & 35-year-old Devon Johnson of Chenango. Police executed a search warrant where they confiscated crack cocaine, Ecstasy and $9,200 in cash. WILLARD was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance, and Endangering The Welfare of a Child. JOHNSON was charged with Criminal Possession of a Forged Document, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and False Personation. Both were arraigned in Town of Chenango Court & were remanded to the Broome County jail without bail, Johnson was turned over to State Parole Officers on an active Parole Warrant.
New York ranked fifth in the nation for gun-control laws, according to a report from the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. The annual report said New York was one of four states this year to enact laws that require universal background checks on all firearm sales. New York has the fourth lowest gun death rate in the nation. New York’s law strengthened an assault-weapons ban, required additional registration of guns and cut the number of bullets allowed in magazine from 10 to seven.

Over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, State troopers conducted an underage drinker identification detail. Troopers checked a total of 16 convenience stores in Broome County, all 16 businesses and sales clerks were found in compliance and no arrests were made.

The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 41-year-old Paula Adams of Otsego County for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Adams was charged following a traffic stop in the Town of New Berlin, after an individual was spotted in the vehicle with an active arrest warrant for an unrelated charge, During the stop, Adams was found to be operating the motor vehicle with a suspended license, and she was also found to be in possession of the narcotic Suboxone. New York electric customers will get a small credit on an upcoming bill, as the state Public Service Commission approved of a 1-time credit to electricity bills of up to $3.00, depending on usage. Regulators reported that the credit steams from a settlement that included a $110 million dollar civil penalty against constellation Energy commodities Group, on grounds that the power producer manipulated wholesale energy sales in 3 regional markets. The credit will be passed on as soon as utilities received the funds.

Chenango County Toys for Tots organizer, Denis Rifanburg said this will help a lot of local children this year. Hall and his wife Erica are Bainbridge residents who formed the event to give back to their local community.

The annual Bainbridge Days will be held tomorrow with a variety of fun activities and sales from 10am - 2pm. Main Street will be lined with vendors and many village business will have specials and sales thoughout the day. There will be a classic car show in the village parking lot, and there will be a bounce house and dunk tank. There will also be music by a local band on the Village Green at 6pm Saturday evening.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 31 year old Kyle Angle of Sherburne Following an investigation of a Domestic Dispute. Angle was charged with for Criminal Obstruction of Breathing and Blood Circulation, Three counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Criminal Possession of a weapon. Angle was found to be choking a female victim while three young children were nearby. Angle was also found to be in Possession of a hand gun without holding a pistol permit. Angle was arraigned in Town of Sherburne Court and will re-appear at later court date.

The City of Norwich will be closing some streets for paving over the next few days. Today the West end of Conkey Ave from Elm to Locust will be closed as well as Merrill St. Tomorrow On Wednesday, Rexford St. will be closed from the railroad tracks to Silver St. and Pleasant St. will be closed from North Broad to King Street. On Thursday Cole Drive will be closed. No traffic will be permitted on any of these streets for the better part of the day. Also, on Tuesday next week, The Chenango County Department of Public Works will close a section of County Road 33, between County Road 36 (Norwich-Guilford Road) and County Road 34 (Springvale Road), in the Town of Norwich. This closure will be in place until the required culvert replacement work is completed. Local traffic will be allowed access to their homes; however they will be required to travel away from the project for the closure period.
New York State has begun issuing new driver’s licenses that have more than 30 new security features, making them nearly impossible to fake. For drivers under 21, the new licenses are vertical rather than horizontal. That feature gives bouncers, bartenders and clerks an easier time identifying those younger than 18 or 21 for sales of tobacco and alcohol. The new licenses will be introduced over the next eight years as drivers’ current licenses expire or when new drivers get them. The licenses are laser engraved with a “grayscale” appearance, with a black and white photo. Four offices in Albany, Poughkeepsie, North Syracuse and Schenectady have already begun issuing the new format license with all DMV offices expected to be online by the end of September.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office executed a "no knock" search warrant, in Sherburne, 52-year-old Robert Reynolds was charged with 1st degree Criminal Possession of Marihuana, Criminal Possession of Controlled Substance and 4th degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Police seized 100 pounds of high-grade marihuana, Oxycodone, $ 36,000 in cash, about $20,000 in property gained from marihuana sales, plus scales, packaging material and drug paraphernalia. Reynolds was arraigned in the Town of North Norwich Court and held at the Chenango County Jail on $ 50,000 cash bail, he’ll reappear in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date. 90-year-old Betty Clark of Oneonta was hospitalized for suffering burns & smoke inhalation at a fire at 348 Chestnut Street in Oneonta Thursday morning. Clark was taken to Fox Hospital in Oneonta, after she unsuccessfully attempted to rescue her pets. Investigators determined that cardboard boxes were too close to a gas range in the kitchen, they caught fire at around 9:20 Thursday morning, and passing motorists reported the blaze and helped bring Clark to safety. Firefighters from Oneonta, West Oneonta, Otego Franklin, Worcester & Sidney responded.

The Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation raised over $132,000 during their recent annual campaign, the fundraising campaign along with planned giving and the annual golf tournament; the Foundation raised a total of $185,360. Last year's gift help renovate the interior of the old Medical Arts Building, Previous efforts helped to modernizing the in-patient and maternity units, purchased equipment for the Operating room and the Heart Center and purchased the vehicle to transport nursing home residents. Chenango County Sheriff Office arrested 27-year-old JoVonne Woolever of Sherburne for criminal possession of a controlled substance. Woolever was charged as deputies were investigating a domestic dispute it was found that Woolever was in possession of prescription pills that she did not have a prescription for, she was taken into custody without incident, processed and released on an appearance ticket to appear at a later date.

Governor Cuomo and state lawmakers agreed to changes to gun laws that would expand the state’s ban on assault weapons. The bill would broaden the definition of assault weapons; ban semiautomatic pistols and rifles with detachable magazines and one military-style feature, as well as semiautomatic shotguns with one military-style feature. The bill would require mental health professionals to report to local mental health officials when they believe that patients are likely to harm themselves or others, Law enforcement would then be authorized to confiscate any firearm owned by that patient; the bill stipulates that those who already own such guns could keep them. The legislation would increase penalties for multiple crimes committed with guns, would require background checks for most private gun sales, and create a statewide gun-registration database.

State troopers from Norwich arrested 23-year-old Joshua Orth of Morrisville, on a charge of 3rd degree Assault. The arrest followed the report of an altercation in Lincklaen, Orth was arraigned in the Town of Pitcher Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $500 cash bail pending further court action.
