Norwich Police arrested 27 year old Caleb Alexander of Columbus Ohio for Criminal Impersonation following an investigation into an adult who was using foul language and disrespecting staff at the Norwich YMCA. Alexander was using a number of incorrect identifications, detectives learned that Alexander later went to Norwich High School, where he allegedly used a false name, date of birth, and address in an attempt to enroll and gain access to the school. Detectives located Alexander a short time later, and he was taken into custody without incident. Alexander was wanted on a parole/probation warrant from Ohio for robbery and impersonating a police officer. Ohio authorities have confirmed that they intend to extradite Alexander to face those charges. Norwich Police stated that no children were harmed, and the suspect never made it beyond the high school office. Alexander is currently being held pending an extradition hearing in Chenango County Court.
The Autumn Family Fun Event will be Held at Peila Farms in Oxford on both days this weekend, free vouchers are available for families with children for special health care needs to enjoy the day's activities, those families can pre-register for the vouchers, Erica Curtis of the Chenango County Public Health explains:

A section of I-81 was closed this afternoon following a Crash and fuel spill southbound at Exit 4 at about 1:00 PM. A multi-vehicle crash has caused a fuel spill on Interstate 81 southbound, at the Exit 12 ramp to Binghamton/Port Dickinson, State Route 7. Joseph Swarts of Binghamton, pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Broome County Court. On May 4, 2023, Swarts was found to be in possession of Methamphetamine after a traffic stop by the Binghamton Police, he admitted to possession with the intent to sell. Swarts will be sentenced to 3 years in State Prison and 2 years post-release supervision. Sentencing is scheduled for April 18th.
25 year old Caleb Lane of Walton appeared in the Delaware County Court for sentencing on 1 count of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child. On August 25, 2022, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a cyber tip that an individual account had downloaded a sexually explicit image of a child. Investigators with the State Police were able to track down the account to Lane, Searches of his computer included numerous images and videos. Lane had previously pleaded guilty on December 4, On Monday Lane was sentenced to 10 years of probation supervision subject to sex offender conditions, he was also ordered to register as a Sex Offender.
Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Monday in the Town of Chenango to meet with a domestic violence victim in the Town of Colesville. The female victim and her 2 young children fled their residence due to a physical dispute, Deputies utilized the Lethality Assessment Program and advocates from Crime Victims Assistance Center responded to provide victim safety and support services. 30 year old Timothy Backes of Windsor is accused of violating an order of protection & physically assaulting the victim, Deputies located Backes & charged him with 2 counts of Criminal Contempt, Aggravated Family Offense & Harassment, he was taken to Broome County Central Arraignment and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility, he attempted to contact the victim to solicit funds for bail, violating the Order of Protection again, he was additionally charged with another count each of of Criminal Contempt & Aggravated Family Offense, & was remanded after arraignment on the new charges.
The Bainbridge Lions Club has started a fundraiser to purchase their own camera to test children's eyes at several area school districts, spokesman Cliff Crouch said that they previously borrowed the device, but they would like to get their own camera & continue the program more efficiently:

The State Labor Department has corrected their earlier "Warn" statement regarding the Acco Plant in Sidney. The Labor Department amended the closing date of the Sidney facility to April 8, 2025, earlier they state on their website that the plant would be closing in April 2024. The total number of employees at the plant is 290, the number of workers affected by the closing is 231.

The Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Michael Ide of Oneonta following a narcotics investigation. Ide was charged with several counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, plus 2 counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia. On December 11th 2023, members of the State Division of Parole, Oneonta Police Department and the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search of a residence in the Town of Oneonta, Officers seized methamphetamine, heroin, fentanyl, suboxone, plus $669 in US currency, digital scales, packaging materials, drug paraphernalia and a notebook containing drug sales records were also seized, Ide faces court action shortly.
Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to reports of a stolen pickup truck from Pennsylvania Monday, the driver failed to comply & a pursuit continued at high rates of speed, until the vehicle was stuck in mud in the Town of Maine. 21 year old Samuel Pierce of Candor was taken into custody, officers seized a loaded handgun & Pierce was charged with several counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer, Reckless Endangerment & 17 Traffic Violations. Pierce was wanted on a warrant from Tioga County for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell. He was arraigned and remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility. 2 juvenile females who were with Pierce for part of the pursuit were charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Oneonta Police responded last night to a report of a gunshot fired at 30 Center Street. An unidentified male was taken to Fox Hospital with a gunshot wound, the investigation is continuing.

State Police & Emergency personnel responded to a truck accident on I-88 in Schenectady County at about 3:00 AM this morning. A truck carrying compressed natural gas went off of the roadway, area residents were briefly evacuated, the unidentified driver was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, the cause of the accident is under investigation.
The New York Lottery today announced 4 3rd-prize-winning tickets were sold for the December 4 Powerball drawing. 1 of the winning tickets was sold at the Stewart's Shop in Cooperstown, the ticket is worth $50,000. The Powerball drawing is televised every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 pm.
Congressman Marc Molinaro is pushing the U.S. Department of Agriculture to address the milk carton shortage in Upstate New York. Supply chain problems at 1 of the 2 major milk carton manufacturers has caused schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and other institutions in to forgo serving milk. This milk carton shortage may also force dairy farmers to dump milk if the issue is not rectified quickly.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli released a new report that confirmed, that taxpayers moved out of New York State reached its peak in 2020, when the state was the 1st to have outbreaks of the COVID 19 virus. Net-out migration Declined Significantly in 2021, But Still Exceeded Pre-pandemic Levels, the report found more than one of every 100 resident personal income tax filers left New York state in 2020, with net out-migration 400% higher in 2020 compared to 2019. 31 year old Caleb Lane of Franklin pleaded guilty to Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child. On August 25, 2022, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a cyber tip that an individual account had downloaded a sexually explicit image of a child in Franklin, records were seized from the Microsoft Corporation and on September 29, 2023, Lane was arrested and charged with 2 counts of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Minor. Lane will be sentenced to a ten-year period of felony probation supervision and will be required to register as a sex offender.
Commerce Chenango announced that the NBT Holiday Spectacular Business After Hours Event will beheld today from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. The event will be held at the NBT Branch at 52 South Broad Street in Norwich, participants are encouraged to bring non-perishable food Items for the Roots & Wings Program, or new unwrapped toys for Toys for Tots.
The next meeting of the Unadilla Chamber of Commerce will be held this morning at 8:00 am, the meeting will be held at the Bauer Community Center, Main Street, Unadilla.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Department announced the arrest of Caleb Casteline of Apalachin for the fatal stabbing of Q-Quan Richardson of Binghamton, at a party in Endwell Wednesday. Casteline was charged with 2nd degree murder and faces court action on the charge shortly.
The Delhi Village Police Department executed a search warrant on August 21st at 219 Main Street; they seized concentrated cannabis in a variety of forms, as well as LSD, cocaine, marijuana, oxycodone, packaging materials & $1,500 cash from suspected drug sales. Delhi Police arrested 20-year-old Alana Blaustein of Delhi & 22-year-old Connor Guiseppone of Delhi on a variety of drug charges, both were arraigned in Delhi Town Court where & were released on their own recognizance pending future court action.
State Police responded to a report of a tractor trailer rollover north of the Pennsylvania state line on I-81 at about 11:45 AM Wednesday. A trooper responded & discovered that the tractor trailer struck the guide rail, continued off the roadway and overturned. The driver was a 57-year-old male from Quebec who declined hospital treatment, the investigation is ongoing.
State Troopers were dispatched by Broome County 911 to a one-car crash near the intersection of Fox Farm and Reagan Roads in the town of Windsor Wednesday morning. Troopers discovered that the vehicle went off the roadway and struck a utility pole, the driver was still in the vehicle and unresponsive. The unidentified driver was pronounced deceased at the scene and an autopsy was ordered.
Former State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver started his prison sentence Wednesday at a federal prison in Otisville, where he will serve 6 1/2 years following a corruption conviction. Silver left the Assembly in 2015, was convicted a short time later & various appeals & a retrial kept him out of prison. Silver was convicted twice for administering political favors, as a new inmate, Silver will be tested for COVID-19 and placed in quarantine for 14 days.
Utica Firefighters were called to a massive fire at the former CharlesTown Mall in Utica. Firefighters from the Utica & surrounding Fire Departments responded at about 1:30 this morning, Utica city officials are advising residents in the eastern sections of the city to remain indoors with their windows shut due to the high winds whipping the smoke & ash around from the blaze.
The State Health Department announced another 791 positive COVID 19 cases on Wednesday statewide after over 83,000 tests were administered. 490 were hospitalized for the virus, 4 deaths were reported, bringing the state death toll to 25,309.
Chenango County Public Health reported that they are still at 223 total cases of COVID 19 since March, with 75 active Quarantines, 1 person is hospitalized, there have been 201 recoveries, 7 deaths & over 21,600 tests have been performed.
The National Transportation Safety Board released documents this week regarding the Prestige Limousine crash in Schoharie on October 6th 2018. The Board’s Investigators said that The ownership of Prestige Limo took great pain to register the vehicle in a many to avoid safety regulation & twice a year required inspections. The vehicles brakes failed approaching a t intersection, it crashed into a gas station, killing 2 people in the parking lot & all 18 in the limo. Nauman Hussain faces 20 charges each for manslaughter & criminally negligent homicide as the operator of Prestige Limousine.
The Otsego County District Attorney’s office announced that Nicolas Meridy of Oneonta has pleaded guilty in a plea bargain arrangement & will serve 22 years to life. Meridy was arrested along with several others following the murder of Kenneth Robinson in Worcester & the arson fire at Robinson house after the fatal shooting, in October of last year.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a New York City man Tuesday following a property damage accident on County Highway 26 in the Town of Colchester. 23-year-old Evian Camacho of New York City had a suspended driver’s license, for failure to answer summonses in both Bronx and New York counties and for failure to pay a State DMV driver responsibility assessment. Camacho was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and moving from a lane unsafely. Camacho was released and directed to appear in the Town of Colchester Court on a later date.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 22 year-old Q-Quan of Binghamton, following an investigation into an altercation early Wednesday Morning. Quan was taken to Lourdes and later Wilson hospital with stab wounds, he apparently was stabbed at a large gathering in the town of Union, The suspect fled the area, and anyone with information should call the Sheriff’s Office at 778-1196.
The Broome County Sheriff's department arrested 25 year old Keenan Johnson of the town of Chenango twice Tuesday. Johnson reportedly had a dispute with his girlfriend, he was confronted by neighbors & displayed a handgun, he fled the scene, was located by deputies & was charged with Menacing and Criminal Possession of Marijuana before being released on an appearance ticket, he was arrested a short time after his release at the girlfriends residence, fled on a Motorcycle the chase was terminated due to public safety concerns. Additional charges against Johnson are pending.
The Broome County Sheriff’s Department announced the arrest of Caleb Casteline of Apalachin for the fatal stabbing of Q-Quan Richardson of Binghamton, at a party in Endwell Wednesday. Casteline was charged with 2nd degree murder and faces court action on the charge shortly.
The Delhi Village Police Department executed a search warrant on August 21st at 219 Main Street; they seized concentrated cannabis in a variety of forms, as well as LSD, cocaine, marijuana, oxycodone, packaging materials & $1,500 cash from suspected drug sales. Delhi Police arrested 20-year-old Alana Blaustein of Delhi & 22-year-old Connor Guiseppone of Delhi on a variety of drug charges, both were arraigned in Delhi Town Court where & were released on their own recognizance pending future court action.
State Police responded to a report of a tractor trailer rollover north of the Pennsylvania state line on I-81 at about 11:45 AM Wednesday. A trooper responded & discovered that the tractor trailer struck the guide rail, continued off the roadway and overturned. The driver was a 57-year-old male from Quebec who declined hospital treatment, the investigation is ongoing.
State Troopers were dispatched by Broome County 911 to a one-car crash near the intersection of Fox Farm and Reagan Roads in the town of Windsor Wednesday morning. Troopers discovered that the vehicle went off the roadway and struck a utility pole, the driver was still in the vehicle and unresponsive. The unidentified driver was pronounced deceased at the scene and an autopsy was ordered.
Former State Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver started his prison sentence Wednesday at a federal prison in Otisville, where he will serve 6 1/2 years following a corruption conviction. Silver left the Assembly in 2015, was convicted a short time later & various appeals & a retrial kept him out of prison. Silver was convicted twice for administering political favors, as a new inmate, Silver will be tested for COVID-19 and placed in quarantine for 14 days.
Utica Firefighters were called to a massive fire at the former CharlesTown Mall in Utica. Firefighters from the Utica & surrounding Fire Departments responded at about 1:30 this morning, Utica city officials are advising residents in the eastern sections of the city to remain indoors with their windows shut due to the high winds whipping the smoke & ash around from the blaze.
The State Health Department announced another 791 positive COVID 19 cases on Wednesday statewide after over 83,000 tests were administered. 490 were hospitalized for the virus, 4 deaths were reported, bringing the state death toll to 25,309.
Chenango County Public Health reported that they are still at 223 total cases of COVID 19 since March, with 75 active Quarantines, 1 person is hospitalized, there have been 201 recoveries, 7 deaths & over 21,600 tests have been performed.
The National Transportation Safety Board released documents this week regarding the Prestige Limousine crash in Schoharie on October 6th 2018. The Board’s Investigators said that The ownership of Prestige Limo took great pain to register the vehicle in a many to avoid safety regulation & twice a year required inspections. The vehicles brakes failed approaching a t intersection, it crashed into a gas station, killing 2 people in the parking lot & all 18 in the limo. Nauman Hussain faces 20 charges each for manslaughter & criminally negligent homicide as the operator of Prestige Limousine.
The Otsego County District Attorney’s office announced that Nicolas Meridy of Oneonta has pleaded guilty in a plea bargain arrangement & will serve 22 years to life. Meridy was arrested along with several others following the murder of Kenneth Robinson in Worcester & the arson fire at Robinson house after the fatal shooting, in October of last year.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a New York City man Tuesday following a property damage accident on County Highway 26 in the Town of Colchester. 23-year-old Evian Camacho of New York City had a suspended driver’s license, for failure to answer summonses in both Bronx and New York counties and for failure to pay a State DMV driver responsibility assessment. Camacho was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and moving from a lane unsafely. Camacho was released and directed to appear in the Town of Colchester Court on a later date.

in Rochester, while Francisco underwent treatment for a brain tumor on his
brain stem at the Golisano Children's hospital there, Francisco told WCDO News

Governor Cuomo signed legislation to raise the minimum sales
age for tobacco and electronic cigarette products from 18 to 21. The bill will
take effect 120 days after becoming law; tobacco use continues to be the number
one cause of preventable death in New York State. About 28,000 adult New
Yorkers die every year as a result of smoking & an increasing number of
underage youth are using both traditional cigarettes and e-cigarettes. From
2014 to 2018 youth use of e-cigarettes increased by 160% to 27.4%, more than
half of teens falsely believe that e-cigarette use is harmless.
State Police arrested 32 year
old Heather Houck of Binghamton & 26 year old Caleb Zandt of Deposit for
Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Criminally Using Drug
Paraphernalia. A trooper observed the
vehicle Houck and Zandt were in, near a closed business, the trooper learned
that Houck had an active warrant for her arrest. Houck was also found to have suspected heroin
and methamphetamine, she was arrested and was turned over to Broome County Central
Arraignment and Processing. Zandt was
found to be in possession of heroin and a scale. He was issued appearance tickets to the town
of Union court on August 6th.
State Police responded Saturday to a pedestrian struck by a
vehicle on County Road 4 in the town of Unadilla. 69-year-old Susan Haney of Unadilla was
walking south on the eastern shoulder of County Road 4 when she was struck by
an SUV operated by 34-year-old Nicole Wilbur of Unadilla, who became distracted
and drifted off the road and struck Haney, Wilbur immediately stopped and
called 911. Haney suffered from head
trauma, internal bleeding and leg injuries; she was flown to Upstate Medical
Center in Syracuse where she underwent surgery and is listed in critical but
stable condition. Wilbur was issued
tickets for Reckless Driving, Moving from a Lane Unsafely and Failure to Use
Due Care for a Pedestrian. The investigation is on-going.

for 3rd degree Assault, after Troopers were dispatched to the town of
McDonough, were they observed an intoxicated male laying on a driveway. A victim told troopers that they were giving
Braman a ride due to his intoxication; the victim reported that Braman punched
him in the face and head. The victim was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital
and Braman was also taken to the hospital due to his level of intoxication, he
was released & was arraigned & remanded to Chenango County Jail on
$1000 cash bail or $2500 bond, pending court action on August 15th, an order of
protection was issued to the victim.
