Over 600 NYSEG customers in Otsego County are without power today, following last Night's Storms, the Towns of Laurens & Pittsfield in Otsego County have a State of Emergency in effect due to impassable roads from downed trees & power lines. Crews are working to restore power as quickly as possible.

Preparations are wrapping up for the annual Delaware County Fair in Walton in August, Fair Board President Jason Craig explains:

Craig said that another big announcement about a Fair giveaway will be announced next week, the 139th annual Delaware County Fair will be August 17th through the 22nd this year, one of the highlights will be a show by Chubby Checker.

38 year old Jennifer Hewitt of Bloomville, was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury, Counts 1 and 2 are for 3rd degree Grand Larceny, for unlawfully issuing a check from a different bank to Delaware National Bank of Delhi and then withdrawing more than $3000, to have insufficient funds in either account to cover her withdrawal on 2 occasions.

29 year old Wesley Eignor of Hobart, was indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury for Attempted Assault, Obstruction of Governmental Administration and Aggravated unlicensed operation of a Motor Vehicle. The indictments stem from an incident where Eignor was stopped by a Delaware County Deputy for speeding, he resisted arrest & assaulted the Deputy, and did not have a license or privilege of operating a motor vehicle.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 47 year old Jason Nichols of New Berlin Friday for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Unlicensed Operator and several other charges. Deputies responded to State Highway 23 in the Town of New Berlin for a 2 car motor vehicle accident, Nichols who had a revoked New York driver's license, while intoxicated, he transported to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, was processed & was released to a sober third party and is to appear in the Town of New Berlin Court at a later date.

The New York State Fair announced some of the acts that will be playing at the fair, which will run from August 26th to September 7th this year. Among the acts announced today are ZZ Top, Quiet Riot, Melissa Etheridge, Trace Adkins & The Commodores, All concerts are included with fair admission, Fair tickets will go on sale later this summer.

Binghamton Police announced the recovery of the body of a man that was reported missing for several weeks. The body of 38 year-old Colyn Williams has been recovered from the banks of the Susquehanna River in Vestal. Vestal Police investigating Williams death, the cause of death does not appear to be criminal, the investigation is ongoing.

Former Binghamton mayor Matt Ryan announced that he is running for Broome County Sheriff, on the Democratic and Working Families lines. Ryan worked as a public defender & Mayor, Current Sheriff Fred Akshar is expected to seek re-election, running as a Republican.

A Delaware County Grand Jury returned a 4 Count Indictment against 36 year old William Weil of Bainbridge last week. Weil was indicted for Aggravated DWI, Felony DWI & Endangering the welfare of a child, for allegedly driving intoxicated with a child in his vehicle in Delhi on January 22nd, the DWI is a felony as Weil was convicted of DWI within the last 10 years. Weil faces action on the indictments shortly.

Governor Kathy Hochul recently announced an expansion of child care services at 11 SUNY community colleges in New York State. The services will include evenings and weekends, designed to align with the schedules of student-parents who are enrolled in high-demand programs. SUNY Broome is one of the Colleges participating in the program.

The federal trial of Peyton Gendron of Conklin will be held in Buffalo, Judge Lawrence Vilardo made the ruling last week. Gendron's attorneys were seeking to move the trial, out of Buffalo, citing concerns over the ability to get a fair trial. Gendron shot 10 Black people shopping at a Buffalo Tops Supermarket on May 14, 2022, he has already been convicted on state charges, he faces the death penalty on Federal charges, the next trial should start this summer.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 35 year old Warren McKee of Milford for Dissemination of Indecent Material to Minors, following an investigation in to a report of a suspect engaging in sexual online communications with a subject he believed to be a juvenile. Investigation revealed that McKee utilized text messaging and instant messaging from a social media platform to solicit sex from the juvenile. McKee was located at his residence and taken in to custody without incident, he was processed and issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Milford Court at a later date.

Thousands of unlawful vape and marijuana products were seized from a Conklin gas station as part of a compliance check by the Broome County Health Department. On March 9, members of the Sheriff’s Office and the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force assisted the Broome County Health Department with a flavored nicotine vape compliance check at the “One Dream” Sunoco gas station located at 976 Conklin Rd in the Town of Conklin, they seized approximately 4,000 unlawful flavored nicotine vapes along with THC products, The business does not possess a valid license to dispense THC products. The unlawful flavored vapes are not taxed. In 2019, New York raised the legal age to purchase tobacco and vape products to 21, and in 2020 the state banned the sale of flavored vaping products, other than tobacco flavor. The compliance check was generated via a tip from the Susquehanna Valley Central School District.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 20 year old Kyle Ruiz of Hartwick, for Promotion of a Sexual Performance by a Child & Obscenity, following an investigation in to multiple Cyber Tips received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The Investigation revealed that Ruiz used multiple usernames to solicit sexual content from other users on various social media platforms. In January investigators executed a search warrant at the Ruiz residence, Following the examination of multiple seized devices, additional information contributed to arrest. Ruiz turned himself in today & was held in the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Arraignment.

30 year old Andrew Weiskopff of Johnson City was arrested on 4 counts of Assault, plus Reckless Endangerment, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident & reckless driving. Weiskopff is accused of striking 2 victims with his vehicle in front of Tully’s in Vestal last Thursday. Both female victims were taken to an area hospital, Weiskopff was located at he returned to his residence, and he was taken into custody without issue, He was also issued two traffic tickets for varying offenses, Weiskopff was remanded to the Broome County Jail

The State Department of Motor Vehicles announced that their department helped New Yorkers recover more than $13.6 million in stolen vehicles, titles, parts and services during 2025. The department reported that 384 Stolen Vehicles were Recovered in 2025 Worth $10.4 Million, and an Additional $3.2 Million Recouped in Titles, Repairs and Refunds, That number is an increase from $11 million recovered in 2024.

On Thursday Night, Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol observed a stolen vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on State Route 17 in the Town of Vestal, A pursuit followed, to I-81, to I-88 into the town of Fenton & back through Binghamton into Johnson City, the pursuit ended when a tire fail off, the driver, 28 year old Romario Robinson of Binghamton, was taken into custody. 28 year old Shelby Medovich of Harpursville exited a nearby restaurant & interfered with the investigation of Robinson, she is accused of being a participant in the theft of the vehicle. Robinson and Medovich were charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, Conspiracy, Robinson faced additional traffic violations both were processed, arraigned & were released on their own recognizance pending future court action.

Former area Congressman Marc Molinaro Announced that he has launched a campaign for the New York State Assembly to represent the 102nd District and fill the seat being vacated by Chris Tague. Molinaro was a member of Congress in New York’s 19th Congressional District, he then served as Administrator of the Federal Transit Administration.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office announced that Wayne Collins has been successfully located by the Broome County Sheriff's Office Warrants Division, they are coordinating with the US Marshals in North Carolina to take him into custody, Collins was wanted on a warrant for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 26 year old Jacob Roman of Walton with 2 counts of Grand Larceny, and 1 count of Burglary, On October 18th, Deputies were dispatched to Benton Avenue in the Village of Walton for a reported Burglary in Progress where they located, identified and arrested Roman. On November 21st, Deputies located and arrested Roman on new charges after it was alleged that he had taken the victim’s credit card and made numerous purchases on the card which amounted to over $1,500 without authorization. Roman was transported to the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

The 14th Annual Holiday Craft Fair will be held by the Bainbridge Guilford Teacher's Association on Saturday from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the BG High School Gym. Over 40 local crafter & artisans will participate, there will be raffle & door prizes, people are asked to bring a non-perishable food item, pet food or a hygiene product as a donation & to get a ticket for a door prize.

33 year old Corey Green of Vestal was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 19 years in federal prison for his role in a drug trafficking conspiracy spanning the United States. Green admitted that he possessed, distributed, and conspired to distribute large quantities of fentanyl, heroin & Methamphetamine in and around Broome County, he also admitted to possessing 3 handguns and 2 AK-47 style weapons to further his drug-trafficking activities, while being prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous convictions, & conspiring to launder his drug-trafficking proceeds. Green was sentenced to a 19 year prison term, concurrent 3 and 5-year terms of post-release supervision, and a money judgment of over $185,000 of unrecovered proceeds from his drug trafficking. Co-conspirator Michael Jacobs of Endicott, was previously sentenced to 10 years and 10 months term of imprisonment & 5 years of post-release supervision.

21 year old Joziah Worthington was sentenced following his convictions after trial in Broome County Court, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd & 3rd Degree, to 9 years in a State Correctional Facility with 5 years of post-release supervision for 1 charge, and 7 years in prison with 3 years of post-release supervision for other charge, to run concurrently. Worthington was arrested by state Police in 2024 in Johnson City, for illegally possessing a firearm as well as a large capacity ammunition feeding device capable of accepting 31 rounds, loaded with 25 rounds, Worthington’s DNA being found on the firearm.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded on August 20th, to a 2 car motor vehicle accident in the Town of Sidney, in which one driver had reportedly left the scene. With the assistance of the Village of Sidney Police Department, the driver was identified as 38-year-old Joshua Crisell of Sidney, and the vehicle was located at a residence in Sidney. Deputies charged Crisell with Reckless Driving, driving to left of pavement markings, failure to keep right and leaving the scene of a property damage accident, Crisell was released on an appearance ticket for the Town of Sidney Town Court at a later date.

State Police issued 109 tickets during a four-hour long Operation Hard Hat detail within a work zone on Interstate 81 in the town of Chenango Thursday. The detail was a combined effort with the State Police and the Broome County Sheriff’s Department, Crews from the DOT were repairing the bridge rail over Front Street. The area is a 55mph zone and just the left lane was closed, while two others were still open to accommodate traffic. Troopers charged 27 for using cell phones while driving, 36 for speeding, 27 for no seat belt, 19 other cvarious tickets were issued.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 50 year old Adam Zuk of Masonville for his non-compliance to Family Court Order of Protection. On August 18th, Deputies o served Zuk with a Delaware County Family Court Order of Protection, he was advised that he needed to vacate the property, Zuk failed to comply, he was charged with Criminal Contempt, he was processed, arraigned & was released on his own recognizance. On August 20th, Deputies were advised that Zuk had attempted to make telephone contact with the protected party, he was charged with Criminal Contempt, he was arraigned and was being held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail and $10,000 bond.

Jeremiah Raub was found guilty by a Broome County Jury today for 1 count of 2nd-degree murder and 2 counts of 1st-degree arson, in connection with a 2011 Binghamton fire that killed 17 year old Jeffrey Aissa. 6 people escaped the blaze, Aissa died inside the house. The 1st trial for Raub ended when the jury could not reach a verdict, he will be sentenced at a later date in Broome County Court.

The 2025 New York State Fair started today & will run through September 1st in Syracuse, , with a variety of attractions including midway rides, free concerts, and the annual butter sculpture. Tickets are $8 per person and parking is $12 per vehicle, Daily Hours will be from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

Broome County Department of Civil Service has announced the latest round of Training & Experience Exams for those interested in careers as Corrections Officers. Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 30 year old Patrick Summers of Deposit for Criminal Mischief, 3 counts of Menacing, 3 counts of Harassment and 1 count of Disorderly Conduct with Violent Behavior, Summer was arrested following an investigation into a recent weapons complaint in the Town of Windsor.

The Chenango County Board of Supervisors voted this week to allocate $1.5 million for consultation services from LeChase Construction, The Board is looking to go forward with a 35 Million dollar plan to build a new County Office Building in Norwich.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 48 year old Jason Fowlston of Sherburne for Overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals, after a report that he physically abused a dog in his home. A brief investigation uncovered evidence that Fowlston repeatedly kicked the dog, he was issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Village of Sherburne Court at a later date.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded Saturday to a report of a burglary on Boswell Hill Road in the Town of Union. The homeowner spotted 2 individuals with flashlights inside his house with his home security camera system and called 911. Deputies, with State Police, located the 2 suspects, they fled into a wooded area, but were apprehended. Arrested were 43 year old Matthew Ortloff of Chenango Forks, & 45 year old Jeremiah Johnson of Endicott. The pair were charged with Burglary, Conspiracy, Possession of burglar tools, criminal mischief, along with seve4ral other related charges, they were arraigned and remain in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

Delaware County Department of Public Works has received reports from a Village of Walton resident that twice now an individual with a laminated “County Tag” has knocked on her door requesting access to her basement to check her water meters. The County does not have a water department, so we will never be asking to check water meters. If you experience a similar situation, we encourage you to report it to your local village office and law enforcement.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 26 year old Cassandra Davi and 31 year old Taylor Micha, both of Edmeston, after Deputies observed a suspicious vehicle that was parked at a business in the Village of Sherburne for an extended amount of time. Davi and Micha were found to be in possession of fentanyl, packaging material, and scales, they were taken into custody and transported to the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office for processing. Both face charges, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Criminally using Drug Paraphernalia, Obstructing Governmental Administration & Loitering, both were arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on cash bail.

27-year-old Hamail Waddell pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Burglary, Assault and Tampering with a Witness. On May 24th, Waddell and another individual, unlawfully entered the home of his ex-girlfriend on Morgan Road in Binghamton, which violated a No Contact Order of Protection, Waddell assaulted another man, causing physical injuries, When officers attempted to arrest him, Waddell also attacked a Binghamton Police Officer, injuring the officer, at the Broome County Jail on June 24th, Waddell made a recorded phone call to a protected party. Waddell will be sentenced to 6 1/2 years in State Prison, followed by 4 years of post-release supervision.

During the annual Colorscape Chenango festival on September 7th, the Chenango County Historical Society will again host a series of tours featuring historically significant community spaces. The “Historic Architecture in the Chenango County Seat” walking tour, will be led by architectural historian Bryan McCracken, Beginning at 12:30 pm., in front of the Chenango County Courthouse in Norwich. The “Local Treasures Revealed” building tour, will begin at 2:00 PM, led by Will MacGuire, in the Live Event NY Showroom at 1 South Broad Street in Norwich. Norwich City officials announced Sunday that the Boil water was lifted, after announcing that E. coli bacteria was found in the City water supply late last week. E. coli bacteria were found in 1 out of 11 drinking water samples collected on August 6th, Coliform bacteria were found in 3 out of 11 drinking water samples collected. The State Department of Health considers any confirmed E. coli positive sample as a public health hazard and a violation of drinking water standards. After repeated sampling, the results meet the minimum standards for public water supplies, If residents experience some discoloring in the water, run the water until it clears. Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a bomb threat Tuesday at about 1:00 PM that was made to Community Bank on State Highway 23 in the Town of Norwich. The building which included Community Bank, a Mirabito Gas Station, and Dunkin Donuts were quickly evacuated. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office and State Police responded and secured the scene, a State Police Explosives Detection Canine conducted a thorough search of the entire premises and did not locate any signs of any explosive devices, it was determined that there was no threat to the public and the businesses were back open at approximately 4:00 pm. The investigation to who made the threat is still ongoing.

52 year-old Terrell Heyward was sentenced to 21 years to life in prison today in Broome County Court. On January 11th, Heyward shot 54 year-old Sarah Hauer in the back of the head at the Woodburn Court apartment building on Exchange Street. The District Attorney's Office contended that Heyward was frustrated that his girlfriend, who was a friend of Hauer’s, wouldn’t see him. When Hauer told Heyward that his girlfriend was unavailable, he shot Hauer and fled these, leaving her to die.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Mohamad Haidar of Decatur, following an investigation into repeated domestic violence. Haidar was charged with Predatory Sexual Assault, plus multiple counts of 1st degree & 3rd degree Rape, 1st & 3rd degree Criminal Sexual Act, Assault, Stalking, Labor Trafficking, unlawful inprisonment, Strangulation, Criminal possession of a weapon & Overdriving, torturing, failure to provide proper sustenance for animals. Investigators were contacted by victims who reported sustaining severe abuse for several years while living with Haidar, where they were forced to live at the residence and submit to extreme abuse which often resulted in serious physical injury. Haidar was taken in to custody without incident, a search warrant was executed & evidence was seized. The Susquehanna SPCA removed numerous animals. Haidar was processed and was lodged in the Otsego County Correctional Facility for Arraignment, the investigation is on-going and additional charges are pending. 35 year old Natasha Reed of Hamden was indicted on 2 counts by a Delaware County Grand Jury for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Reed allegedly possessed over 500 milligrams of cocaine, on November 26, 2024, Deputies conducted a traffic stop and found Reed to have a suspended license, officers seized cocaine and drug paraphernalia from the vehicle.

State Police, the FBI and the State Intelligence Center, have arrested 50 year old Edward Connors of Endicott for making racially motivated threats directed at federal government employees. State Police received information that Connors made multiple threatening social media posts targeting current and former federal employees who are African American, Connors was located at his residence and taken into custody without incident, He was processed and taken to the Broome County Jail for arraignment after being charged with Making a Terroristic Threat as a Hate Crime. Former Oneida County Corrections Officer Christopher Walrath was sentenced to 15 years in State Prison, in connection with the death of inmate Robert Brooks at the Marcy Correctional Facility last December. Walrath had pleaded guilty to Manslaughter as part of a plea bargain deal in Oneida County Court, the plea offer nullifies the original murder charge and results in a lesser prison term, instead of the potential 25 years to life.

New York State has issued Air Quality Alert for area counties until midnight tonight, due to smoke from Canadian wildfires, The State Health Department reported that anyone sensitive to pollutants should limit their exposure to the outdoors until the Air Quality improves.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant in Binghamton Thursday, at 54 Rotary Avenue, they arrested Felix Califano on a variety of drug charges. Officers seized ammunition, a 12-gauge shotgun, $7,340 in cash from suspected drug proceeds, plus cocaine & Items used for packaging, cutting and weighing narcotics, Califano of Binghamton was brought to the Binghamton Police Department for processing.

State Police at Troop C have scheduled more child’s car seat safety checks, one on August 4, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at the Windsor Diner, August 6, from 5:30 to 7:00 PM at The Pantheon on State Route 79 in Harpursville, State Police are teaming up with the Broome County District Attorney’s Office at these events, they will be hosting a bike helmet give away. The State Comptroller's Office of Unclaimed Funds returns over $2 million in lost money every day, which can come from utility deposits, trust funds, old bank accounts, uncashed checks or unused gift cards. To further assist individuals in claiming their lost funds, staff members will attend community events to provide information and assistance with the search process, including on August 7th from 9:30 am. to 4:00 pm. with the Chenango County Office of the Aging tent at the Chenango County Fair Grounds in Norwich. Broome County Sheriff’s Road Patrol responded Thursday night to a dispute near the Speedway gas station on Route 12 in the Town of Chenango, deputies located a motorcycle still running, which had struck a fence and became disabled. Witnesses reported that the driver left the scene and was hiding nearby, Deputies located 46 year old David Osborn of Frankfort, he was transported to UHS Wilson Hospital for treatment of his injures, failed a sobriety test, he became uncooperative with hospital staff and Officers, Osborn had a suspended driver’s license, no motorcycle license and multiple outstanding warrants, the motorcycle was stolen from Binghamton. Osborn was charged with DWI, Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle & 7 traffic violations, he was ordered to appear in Town of Chenango Court following his discharge from medical care.

The State Health Department reported the 1st cases of the West Nile virus has been reported in Onondaga County. The individual is an elderly adult from Cicero, who was hospitalized but has since been discharged and is recovering. Additionally, the first Eastern Equine Encephalitis virus detection in mosquitoes this season has also been reported in Cicero. Chenango County Department of Public Works announced that County route 37 in the Town of Guilford between Blower Road & Route 8 is closed starting today, to replace a culvert. Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 39 year old Thomas Kopech of Norwich Friday on an active Arrest Warrant from Town of Plymouth Court from an incident on May 31st, where Kopech allegedly broke into a residence in the Town of Plymouth and assaulted the victims inside the home. Kopech then fled the scene before Deputies responded which resulted in the warrant of arrest. Kopech was arrested without incident and arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail. Kopec is to appear in court on a later date. Kopech was charged with Burglary, Criminal Mischief, Aggravated Criminal Contempt, Aggravated Sexual Abuse, Criminal Obstruction of Breath/Blood Circulation & Unlawful Imprisonment.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 27 year old Derek Mead of Walton for with 1 count each of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Obstruction of Breathing, Assault and Unlawful Imprisonment, following the investigation into a domestic dispute last Tuesday in the Village of Walton. Mead is accused of being involved in a physical domestic dispute with another person while a child was present. Mead was processed and was turned over to Delaware County Correctional Facility to await Arraignment.

State Police will have 3 Car Seat Safety Checks this week, Technicians will be in Whitney Point Tuesday from 4 pm. – 7 pm. at 2612 Liberty Street, on Wednesday, from 4 pm. 7 pm. & Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Broome County Fair, at the Whitney Point Fairgrounds. Warren County 911 received a call from 45 year old Luciano Frattolin of Canada, reporting his 9-year-old daughter Melina Frattolin was missing, with a possible abduction, in Lake George. As the case progressed, law enforcement identified inconsistencies in the father’s account of events and the timeline he provided. The girl was found dead in Ticonderoga, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office has turned the investigation over to State Police. Luciano Frattolin, has been arrested and is currently being held at the Essex County Jail, Luciano Frattolin, the father of Melina Frattolin, was charged with second-degree murder and concealing of a corpse, The investigation is ongoing,

Sidney EMS & State Police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Delaware County Route 4 in Sidney, initial reports suggested that a vehicle rolled off the roadway with 3 possible injuries Sunday at about 5:40 PM Sunday, injured occupants were taken to area hospitals for the treatment of injuries, the cause of the crash is under investigation, The Operator was identified as 20 year old Kadance Maus of Walton.

State Police arrested 37 year old Jason Lagano of Port Crane, for 2nd degree Assault, Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Unlawful Possession of Noxious Matter. On May 8, Troopers were notified that a victim was seeking care at UHS Wilson Medical Center for injuries sustained at a residence in Afton, after being pepper sprayed and struck with an object which caused fractures to both of the victim’s arms. Troopers were not able to immediately locate Lagano and a warrant was issued for his arrest, he was located Thursday by the Broome County Sheriff’s Department and turned over to Troopers, he was processed & was Arraigned & released on his own recognizance, He’s scheduled to appear at Afton Town Court on July 1.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 46 year old Wesley Wyckoff of Susquehanna Pennsylvania for 2 counts of Burglary, plus Criminal Mischief, Possession of burglar Tools and Criminal possession of a controlled Substance. Early Tuesday morning, deputies responded to report of a burglary on Colesville Road in the Town of Kirkwood. Upon arrival, they found a man, later identified as the property owner, standing near a pickup truck and pointing a handgun at another man, who was dressed in dark clothing and wearing what appeared to be a mask. Both the property owner and the other man complied with verbal commands from law enforcement, they determined that the property owner discovered a masked man, confronted him & pointed his legally registered handgun at him and called 911. Multiple buildings and a vehicle were damaged and broken into, Wyckoff possessed a screwdriver, pliers and methamphetamine. Wyckoff faces court action shortly.

The State Department of Transportation announced that Phase I Detours will begin for the Roundabout Project in the City of Oneonta, on Monday, June 2nd and will be continuing for approximately 3 months, weather permitting. Access to the intersection will only be available from Lettis Highway northbound to Main Street eastbound and from Main Street eastbound to Lettis Highway southbound. Motorists are urged to follow separate signed detours for cars and trucks. Passenger vehicles traveling on Main Street will be detoured onto Otsego Street, Fair Street and Grand Street around the construction. Delaware County Sheriff's Office announced that of 51-year-old Eric Dellafiora of North Blenheim, has been arrested on an Arrest Warrant issued out of Schoharie County for failing to appear on charges of Traffic Offenses, Fleeing an Officer, Weapons Offenses, and Obstruction Charges. On Sunday, a Deputy noticed a suspicious vehicle and person at a business that was closed within the Town of Harpersfield, Dellafiora was discovered to have an Arrest Warrant stemming from Schoharie County & was turned over to Schoharie County Sheriff’s Deputies to be processed on the Arrest Warrant.

A Delaware County Grand Jury handed down a Sealed Indictment Warrant for the arrest of 50-year-old James Amato. Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Amato on the Warrant, he was arraigned in Delaware County Court, where the indictment was unsealed, alleging that in April of 2021 Amato had taken logs off multiple properties in the Town of Hamden, causing damage to trees and property and selling the timber for profit. Amato was charged with 3 counts each of 3rd & 4th degree Grand Larceny and 6 counts of Criminal Mischief, Amato was released on his own recognizance and directed to re-appear in court at a future date.

63 year old Daniel Schultz of Margaretville was sentenced to 6 months in the Delaware County Correctional Facility to be followed by 3 years of a conditional discharge for the crime of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a Child in the Vehicle, commonly known as Leandra’s Law. On August 10, 2024, a State Trooper observed a pickup truck operated by Daniel Schultz, Schultz’s license had previously been revoked, a traffic stop was initiated, Schultz stopped the vehicle, a passenger quickly exited the truck, who was under the age of 16. Schultz failed sobriety testing & was charged with several crimes, Schultz pleaded guilty, Schultz was sentenced in Delaware County Court last week, his license was revoked, and if he obtains a license, he will need to install an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he owns or operates. If he violates any condition of his conditional discharge, he could be re-sentenced to 1 1/3 to 4 years in state prison.

The City of Oneonta announced a Traffic Alert regarding the Lettis Highway Lane Closures. Starting today, motorists can expect northbound lane closures on Lettis Highway (Route 23) between Fair Street and Main Street for approximately two weeks while drainage work is underway as part of State DOT's Oneonta Roundabout project. State Police is enhancing its approach to investigating animal cruelty through a new partnership with the State Animal Protection Federation. More than 200 Troopers and Investigators will receive advanced instruction on identifying and responding to animal cruelty cases so that they will be better equipped to detect, investigate, and document cruelty cases, Enhance collaboration with local law enforcement, animal welfare organizations, and prosecutors and it will allow for a more efficient response to these complex investigations.

State Police with the assistance of the Broome County Sheriff’s Department responded to the report of human remains located behind the Windsor school bus garage. An investigation has determined that the deceased individual is 68 year old Edward Crampton, who was reported missing in January after his family had not seen him since Thanksgiving. No foul play is suspected in his death.

23 year old Gage Pankiewicz of Walton was sentenced to 5 years of felony probation supervision for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, in Delaware County Court this week. On September 4, 2024, deputies executed a search warrant in Walton on suspicion of drug trafficking. A forcible entry was made, and deputies arrested Pankiewicz, among other suspects. During the search, methamphetamine, fentanyl, packaging materials, scales, and a rifle were seized. If Pankiewicz fails to abide by the terms of his probation, he faces up to 2 1/2 years in state prison.

29 year old Tyler Long of Sidney was sentenced to 1 to 3 years in prison in Delaware County Court this week, for failing to abide by the terms of the Sex Offender Registry. Long had previously pleaded guilty to Failure to Register an Internet Account. Last July, the Delaware County Probation advised Sidney Police Department that Long had 6 separate unregistered email accounts that he failed to report to the Probation Department, Long’s probation supervision was terminated, and Long was sentenced to a prison term of 1 to 3 years.

Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Sunday to a weapons complaint in the Town of Maine. Deputies located a female victim bleeding from her neck and proceeded with medical aid until Emergency Medical Services transported her to UHS Wilson hospital. 27 year old Shamirah Hauer of Port Crane, had been assisting the victim with putting in hair extensions for nearly an hour before she began to strike the victim with her fists and a pair of scissors, a 3rd party stopped the assault, Hauer left the scene, the male witness called 911. Vestal Police and State Police assisted & Hauer was taken into custody without further incident, she was charged with 1st degree Assault,m she was arraigned & was being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that 21 year old Lavar McDaniel was sentenced in Broome County Court to 8 years in State Prison, followed by 5 years of post release supervision, for Criminal Possession of a Weapon. The prison sentence will be followed by 3 years of post-release supervision, on July 4, 2024, he Binghamton Police observed a vehicle with all the brake lights activated and the engine running, they found McDaniel slumped over the steering wheel, he was also wanted on an active arrest warrant, a search of the vehicle revealed a digital scale, narcotics, a firearm, and a firearm magazine. 2 years were added to McDaniels sentence following a assault of another inmate in the Broome County Correctional Facility.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced flags on State buildings will be flown at half-staff in honor of Binghamton firefighter John Gaudet, who was fatally injured in the line of duty while responding to a fire on February 12. Gaudet is survived by his wife, Felly, and their three children, funeral services will be this morning in Binghamton.

An Endicott man is facing multiple felony charges following an investigation into illegal cigarette sales in the Village of Endicott by the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force. On February 14th, the Broome County SIU executed a search warrant at Crown Fried Chicken, in Endicott, they seized 3,204 pack of Untaxed Cigarettes, $1,936 in US Currency, 69 year old Jamshaid Ahmad of Endicott was charged with Criminal Tax Fraud, Possession/Transport for Sale of Unstamped/ Unlawfully Stamped Cigarettes, the seized cigarettes represent approximately $17,141.40 in evaded New York State taxes.

47 year old Grady Hunter of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court to 10 years in State Prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, he was found guilty by a Jury in August. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at both Hunter’s residence & of his vehicle, officers discovered a loaded pistol in the vehicle, and 12 rounds of ammunition in the residence, DNA analysis by the State Police crime lab confirmed Hunter's DNA on the firearm.

41 year old Philip Albergo of Delhi appeared in the Delaware County Court and pleaded guilty to 2 counts of Criminal Mischief, Judge Hubbard sentenced him to 1 year of jail on each count to be served concurrently. On July 1, Albergo had damaged his apartment by ripping out the electrical wiring & kicked a door in response to receiving eviction papers, he was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury, was arraigned & was released on the condition that he have no further violations of the law. In August, Albergo returned to the apartment and smashed a window, he was indicted again by a Grand Jury, an arrest warrant was issued, and Albergo was taken into custody. Albergo was issued an order of protection for 3 years and and was ordered to pay restitution to the landlord.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 42 year old Mark Tubbs of Unadilla on an active Arrest Warrant for Obstruction of Governmental Administration and Conspiracy, in the Town of New Berlin. Members of the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested Tubbs after positively identifying him as the driver of a vehicle, he was taken into custody without incident, he was arraigned and released on his own recognizance, he faces court action at a later date.

Judge Anthony Brindisi was confirmed to the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand recommended Judge Brindisi to President Biden earlier this year and he was nominated in July. Brindisi has been a judge on the New York State Court of Claims in Utica since 2022, he has been serving as an Acting Supreme Court Justice in Oneida County, Brindisi was served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives representing New York’s 22nd congressional district.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a pickup truck with a lone occupant was traveling North on County Route 50 when it crossed the center line & struck a southbound SUV with two occupants, the SUV left the roadway, the pickup truck overturned and caught fire, the pick up truck's driver escaped & was airlifted to Albany Medical, The SUV driver was airlifted to Syracuse Medical Center, the SUV passenger was transported to Bassett Medical Center. The Investigation is ongoing, charges are pending.

30 Year old Giovanni Foster of Johnson City, pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Broome County Court. On July 11, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit executed a narcotics search warrant at Foster's Apartment, they seized methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and a digital scale. Foster admitted to possession with the intent to sell & will receive 5 years in State Prison followed by 3 years post-release supervision when sentenced on December 12.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is advising residents in Harpursville that the Southern Tier SWAT team will be conducting routine training exercises today on Lovejoy Road between State Route 7 and Hickox Road in Harpursville from 2:00 PM until 10:00 PM. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office reported that 1 person was killed in a 2 vehicle crash on State Route 12 in the Village of Greene Monday morning. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending family notification, a 2nd person involved was taken to Wilson Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in that crash. Route 12 was closed for several hours for the investigation & cleanup, more information is expected to be released soon.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded to a report of a man hit by a vehicle at about 9:30 last night, at Upper Front Street & Bevier Street in the Town of Dickinson. 43 year old Jamel Smalls of Binghamton was declared deceased at the scene, he was hit by a vehicle that left the scene, investigators learned of a possible suspect vehicle in the Town of Maine. 21 year old Christian Rogler of Endicott, was located, & was charged with Vehicular Manslaughter, Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident, Driving while Impaired by Drugs, & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, he was arraigned & was being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Daniel Mondore of Morris following after investigators received a tip regarding internet activity involving Mondore, he had been utilizing 3 online accounts that were not reported to the State Sex Offender Registry, he was taken in to custody & was being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Dustin Light of Unadilla for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation & Speeding following a traffic stop on September 7, in the Town of Otego. Light was issued tickets returnable to Town of Otego Court at a later date.

State Police and Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 2800 block of State Highway 268 in the town of Hancock for a report of a shooting Wednesday Morning. A 32-year-old man was shot in the upper arm and airlifted to Albany Medical Center, with a non-life-threatening injury. 60 year old Robert Trago Jr., of Hancock, was charged with Attempted Murder and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, he was located just before 3:00 pm., in the Margaretville area and taken into custody. Trago Jr. was taken to Delhi where he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $100,000 cash, $200,000 credit, $400,000 bond.

The Delaware County Planning Board announced that they plan to develop a Strategic Comprehensive Plan, to guide future growth, development, and preservation in the County. Fisher Associates will lead the planning process and public engagement efforts. Public Input Sessions will be on Monday, September 16, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Hobart Community Center & Tuesday, September 17 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at the Walton Fire Hall, on West Street. The input gathered from the public survey and during these initial input sessions will be reviewed by Delaware County Planning and Fisher Associates, followed by additional opportunities for public review and comment.

State Police conducted an Underage Drinking Initiative in Delaware County Friday. During the initiative 15 business were checked for compliance, and ALL were found to be in compliance. Businesses that complied were in Masonville, Sidney, Delhi, Walton & Franklin. State Police assigned to the New York State Fair Sunday received a call of possible shots fired between the midway and concert at Suburban Park, 3 minutes later they received a secondary call of possible shots fired at the eatery building. Troopers responded to both reports and determined that there was no evidence of shots fired or anyone being injured. After consulting with Fair officials, the decision was made to close the Fair early on Sunday night. State Police continue to investigate the false reports.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a stabbing that took place at 207 Bornt Hill Rd in the Town of Union. A suspect is in custody and the victim was transported to UHS Wilson Hospital with serious injuries. The Sheriff's Office received assistance was provided from the State Police and the Endicott Police Department, the investigation is continuing.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40 year old Paul Callahan of Greene for Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors and Attempted Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Callahan was arrested after an investigation determined he sent several nude photos of himself to a decoy 14-year-old male victim’s online account. Callahan was released on an appearance ticket for the above charges and is to appear in the Town of Greene Court at a later date.

41 year old James Fuller of Fulton, pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Attempted Burglary and was sentenced to 1.5 to 3 years in state prison. Fuller unlawfully entered a barn located on State Highway 10 in the Town of Harpersfield, with the intent to commit a crime, he was also charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, as a result of being found in possession of a bicycle. Fuller was also required to provide a sample of his DNA for inclusion in the State’s DNA Data Bank and to pay fines and surcharges. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the Delaware County Sheriff to begin serving his sentence.

The State Department of Transportation is advising motorists of the following overnight lane closures along Interstate 81 in the Town of Dickinson, Broome County, to facilitate pavement repairs. Beginning tonight at 8:00 PM, I-81 northbound will be reduced to two lanes of traffic between Exit 5 and the I- 88 interchange. All lanes are expected to reopen Thursday Morning. Also at 8:00 PM Thursday, I-81 southbound will be reduced to two lanes of traffic between Exit 5 and I-88 interchange, the lanes will re-open Friday Morning.

State Police & the Delaware County District Attorney’s office announced that a Delaware County Grand Jury has indicted 27 year old James Christ Jr. of Deposit for 2nd degree Murder, among other charges in connection with the death of a 3 year old child. The child’s mother, Marielys Ramos of Unadilla has been indicted on Reckless Endangerment and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, both are currently at the Delaware County Correctional Facility, pending arraignment. State Police arrested Christ in May, after they were dispatched to Fair Street in Deposit for the report of an unresponsive child, it was determined that Christ recklessly caused the death of the child.

State Police initiated a traffic stop on I-81 north in Cortlandville Sunday Night after observing a vehicle that did not have its rear taillights illuminated. After an investigation and a search of the vehicle, the Trooper located 110 bricks of heroin, Two containers of cannabis wax, cannabis & drug paraphernalia. Troopers arrested 25 year old Kenneth Williams of Syracuse, NY and 22 year old Kyrell Robinson of Syracuse, Both were charged with: Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, both were processed and transported to the Cortland County Correctional Facility for Centralized Arraignment.

State Health Department Officials confirmed that a Long Island man in his 50's is the 1st confirmed case of the West Nile Virus in New York State this summer, the unidentified man was hospitalized briefly but has recovered and was released. 2 more cases were confirmed this week in Westchester County Health Department, West Nile is spread by mosquitoes, Symptoms of West Nile include fever, headache, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, rash, joint pain, and minor bleeding. New York State had the most cases of the West Nile Virus in the nation is recently as 2022.

Governor Kathy Hochul today directed the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to issue an emergency declaration to help communities in 18 counties rebuild critical infrastructure after severe storms and flash flooding that took place August 9-10, 2024. The declaration includes Broome, Chenango, & Delaware Counties.

Broome County Sheriff’s #1 Most Wanted fugitive was arrested last night following a traffic stop in Philadelphia. 27 year old Jeremy Lewis of Endicott, was wanted for possession of a handgun that was discovered during a domestic disturbance in Endicott on October 12, 2023. Lewis fled the area and law enforcement had initially been unable to locate him. The Broome County Sheriff’s Warrants Division had tracked Lewis to the Philadelphia area and alerted the local U.S. Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force, Lewis was located during a routine traffic stop on Monday evening, Lewis will remain in custody in Philadelphia until he is extradited back to Broome County for arraignment.
