Chenango County Sheriff’s Office reported that 1 person was killed in a 2 vehicle crash on State Route 12 in the Village of Greene Monday morning. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released pending family notification, a 2nd person involved was taken to Wilson Hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in that crash. Route 12 was closed for several hours for the investigation & cleanup, more information is expected to be released soon.
Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol responded to a report of a man hit by a vehicle at about 9:30 last night, at Upper Front Street & Bevier Street in the Town of Dickinson. 43 year old Jamel Smalls of Binghamton was declared deceased at the scene, he was hit by a vehicle that left the scene, investigators learned of a possible suspect vehicle in the Town of Maine. 21 year old Christian Rogler of Endicott, was located, & was charged with Vehicular Manslaughter, Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident, Driving while Impaired by Drugs, & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, he was arraigned & was being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility.
The Raymond Corporation and Toyota Material Handling, announced the official opening of the Energy Solutions Manufacturing Center of Excellence in Kirkwood. Broome County, New York. Jennifer Lupo, vice president of energy solutions, supply chain and leasing, comments:

The new facility should lead to about 60 new jobs in the near future.
Alvogen Day started in 2011 and is celebrated globally by all Alvogen locations, including the facility in Norwich. The day will be held this Friday when the plant shut down & the employees help area organization, Spokesman Luke Murphy explains:

Murphy said that about 300 employees participate each year, with pay, & each year a theme is picked & a design is chosen for the day and tee-shirts are purchased with the theme and given to the employees to wear, they wrap up the day up with an employee event in the afternoon.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 38 year old Daniel Mondore of Morris following after investigators received a tip regarding internet activity involving Mondore, he had been utilizing 3 online accounts that were not reported to the State Sex Offender Registry, he was taken in to custody & was being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment.
22 year old Jordan Swan of Chenango is facing multiple charges after traveling at excessive speeds and fleeing patrols multiple times in the Town of Chenango last Thursday. Road Patrol observed a motorcycle driving at an excessive speed and passing a red light, he failed to stop & he lost control and tipped over, he attempted to leave again & was stopped by a deployed taser & was taken into custody. Swan was charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer, Obstructing Governmental Administration and several Traffic Violations, he was arrested, arraigned and released after being issued appearance tickets to appear at the Town of Chenango Court at a later date.
Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 33 year old Dustin Light of Unadilla for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation & Speeding following a traffic stop on September 7, in the Town of Otego. Light was issued tickets returnable to Town of Otego Court at a later date.
The Workforce Development Board is sponsoring a free virtual job fair today, from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Businesses and job seekers across several area counties are participating including Chenango, Delaware, and Otsego counties. More information is available at working-solutions.org.
Broadway In Binghamton will host an open house event Today, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, offering patrons an opportunity to explore the Forum Theatre and "Test Drive" seats for the upcoming season. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 3 Walton residents on multiple Drug charges stemming from a narcotics investigation. On September 4, the Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, executed a no knock search warrant at a residence on State Highway 10 in the Town of Walton, they arrested 43 year old Benjamin Pankiewicz, 22 year old Gage Pankiewicz & 37 year old Ashley Calabrese, all of Walton on a number of drug charges, A quantity of Methamphetamine, Fentanyl, drug packaging & processing equipment were seized, as well as a firearm and approximately $1,000 in cash. All 3 were arraigned, Benjamin and Gage Pankiewicz were were released to reappear at a later date, Ashley Calabrese was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $7,500 bail.
Law enforcement agencies throughout State have increased patrols through this Saturday, for Speed Awareness Week, which is a high-visibility enforcement campaign, supported by funding from the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee to stop speeding and prevent avoidable crashes caused by unsafe speed. In 2023, there was 33,844 crashes and 18,833 killed or injured in New York State.
More than 600 county officials from throughout the State are meeting in Sullivan County for the State Association of Counties’ annual Fall Seminar through Wednesday. At the event, delegates will discuss the most pressing issues facing local government, including short-term rentals, Emergency Medical Services, renewable energy siting, rural housing development, the event is being held at the Resorts World in Monticello.
Hartwick College's annual True Blue Weekend 2024 will be held September 20th through the 22nd & they will welcome reunion classes, alumni, and families, with an array of programming on & off campus, those interested in registering to participate can go to hartwick alumni.org, the full schedule of events will be at hartwick.edu.

State Police were dispatched Friday afternoon to a crash involving a dump truck into a residence on Old Plank Road in the town of Sanford. A 29-year-old male who was operating the dump truck was pronounced deceased at the scene, 3 people were inside the residence at the time of the crash, with a 10 year-old male airlifted to Albany Medical Center for injuries. A 22-year-old male was not injured. A 40-year-old female was treated by EMS at the scene. The investigation is on-going.
Governor Kathy Hochul requested a Major Disaster Declaration from President Biden to support the ongoing recovery efforts of communities impacted by the severe weather caused by the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby that occurred on August 8 – 10. If granted by the federal government, this declaration would provide federal funding for a number of Counties including Broome & Delaware Counties locally, to cover debris removal, emergency protective measures and repairs to public buildings and infrastructure.
3 people were arrested following a traffic stop by the Broome County Sheriff’s Strategic Response Group on Matthews Street in Binghamton last Wednesday night. Patrols determined that the vehicle had no insurance, was unregistered, uninspected and all 3 occupants had suspended driving privileges, deputies observed a pistol partially concealed on the floor of the vehicle, a search of the vehicle revealed methamphetamine, & a digital scale. Officers arrested 26 year old Stanley Conklin of Binghamton, 39 year old Jorge Cortina of Binghamton & 31 year old Christen Sterling of Johnson City were arrested on a number of drug & weapons charges, with Conklin also facing 10 traffic violations. All 3 were transported for arraignment and are currently in custody at the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility.
3 people were taken to Wilson hospital after a BC Transit bus crashed into a light pole on the west side of the Oakdale Commons complex in Johnson City. The incident happened shortly after 8:30 AM, near the former Burlington Coat Factory store. Bus Driver was identified as Wendy Carter, the investigation is continuing & charges against Carter may be filed
