A total of 23 local governments in New York state were designated in fiscal stress for fiscal years ending in 2024, up from 14 a year ago, according to a report released from State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. These designations were based on the State Comptroller’s Fiscal Stress Monitoring System (FSMS) scores. None of the local Governments in the Tri-County region made the list this year, the full report can be found at osc.ny.gov.

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies invite fans to Mirabito Stadium for a ceremony celebrating the team's 2025 Eastern League Championship Thursday at 2:30 pm. Admission is free to the public. Coaches and players will be honored on the field following their Eastern League Championship Series victory over the Erie Seawolves, winning 8-2. It's the franchise's fourth Eastern League title in its 33-year franchise history and the first since 2014.


The State DEC announced that small game hunting and furbearer trapping seasons for the 2025–26 license year are now open or will open soon across New York. Most small game and furbearer seasons open between Sept. 1 and Nov. 1, depending on species and zone. Full season dates, bag limits, and regulations are published in the 2025–26 Hunting & Trapping Regulations Guide at dec.ny.gov.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Monday to a domestic incident involving a male subject with a stab wound. Upon arrival, Deputies found the victim with a stab wound to his leg and cuts to his hands. Deputies provided first aid until EMS arrived, the victim was taken to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City. Deputies arrested 63-year-old Alfredo Chico for 2nd degree Assault, Menacing and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, he was arraigned & was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 secured bond.


State Police & Chenango County Sheriff's Office & State Forest Rangers are looking for 71 year old Charles Skellet, who was last seen on June 14th at a residence where he was staying on Seymour Hill Road in Coventry. Police said that Skellet has multiple medical concerns, State police are utilizing Troopers on the ground, K9 units, drones and New York State Police aviation equipment.


44 year old Jerry Green of Binghamton, pleaded guilty to 2nd degree Assault in Broome County Court during the second day of his jury trial. Green admitted to assaulting another man with a metal pipe during a violent incident on September 27, 2024, at a residence located at 38 Pine Street, in the City of Binghamton. Green will be sentenced on September 12, 2025, before the Honorable Carol A. Cocchiola, and is expected to receive six years in New York State Prison, followed by five years of postrelease supervision.


U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will reintroduce her legislation to help end food deserts, which are locations where a significant portion of residents don’t have easy access to a grocery store and affordable, nutritious food, and may rely on smaller convenience stores, that usually lack fresh produce:

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 42 year old Jennifer Race of Worcester for Overdriving, Torturing, Injuring Animals; Failure to Provide Proper Sustenance, following an investigation into a dog complaint in Town of Worcester. Race was arrested and issued an Appearance Ticket for Town of Worcester Court at a later date.


Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 36 year old Charles Hall of New Berlin for Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Endangerment and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle Hall was operating in the Town of Columbus, he failed to comply and led Deputies on a pursuit into Otsego County. After an investigation, Hall turned himself into Deputies, he was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Columbus Court on a later date.


Congressman Josh Riley will hold a Town Hall Meeting at 6:00 PM tonight in Oneonta, at the SUNY Oneonta Hunt Union Hall, at 108 Ravine Parkway in Oneonta. Broome County District Attorney F. Paul Battisti announced the allocation of $52,500 in funding to support enhanced summer traffic safety & community policing patrols throughout the County. The fund from the DA’s Traffic Diversion Program, will be distributed to the Binghamton, Endicott, Johnson City & Vestal Police Departments and the Broome County Sheriff Office.


Oneonta Officials announced that due to the Muller Plaza Stage project, that today until 2:00 pm, there will be No Parking on Main Street between the Key Bank and Wescott Parking Lot stairway on both sides of the street. A Broome County Jury found 51 year old Antoine Loup of Endicott, guilty Friday for 2nd degree Murder and Tampering with Physical Evidence. On July 8, 2023, Loup went to to 4 Filmore Avenue in Endicott where the victim, Aaron LeGare, and others were playing cards, Loup’s asked LeGare to approach his vehicle, an argument ensued, Loup shot LeGare in the chest & fled the scene, and hid the murder weapon in his attic. Loup faces up to 25 years to life in state prison, when sentenced at a later date.

Officials in the village of Milford have lifted a boil water advisory today, it was put into effect Friday when a water main broke on West Main Street. After the repair, water samples were approved after testing, and the order was lifted this morning.

A total of 129,686 tickets were issued statewide, as part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” traffic enforcement period between Christmas and New Year’s Day. The initiative, which targeted impaired and reckless drivers, ran from Wednesday, December 11, 2024 through Wednesday, January 1, 2025. Over 23,000 were for speeding, over 4200 were for impaired driving and over 4200 for distracted driving,


Chenango County Sheriff's Office Detectives Division arrested 40 year old Benjamin Bishop of Otselic for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Criminal Mischief. On April 23rd, 2024, Road Patrol Division received a complaint from a victim that items were stolen from a property in the Town of Plymouth, Following the indictment by the grand jury, an arrest warrant was issued, On December 30th, County Detectives went to Otselic, Bishop attempted to evade a traffic stop, but was taken into custody without incident, he was arraigned in the Chenango County Court, and he is scheduled to appear in the Chenango County Court at a later date.


Binghamton Police arrested 51 year old Terrell Heyward of Binghamton, for 2nd Degree Murder, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property. Saturday night, Police responded to 21 Exchange Street, they found 54-year-old Sarah Hauer unresponsive in the hallway from gunshot wounds to the head. Heyward was found at his apartment and taken into custody.


Governor Kathy Hochul announced an initiative to ensure every one of New York’s over 2.7 million students can receive breakfast and lunch for free at school. The State 2025 Budget included $180 million to help incentivize eligible schools to participate in the federal Community Eligibility Provision, allowing all students in participating schools to eat breakfast and lunch at no charge regardless of their families’ income. This new State of the State initiative will cover the cost of free lunch and breakfast for every student, adding meals for an additional 300,000 additional students.


The IRS announced January 27 as the official start date of the 2025 tax season. There's expected to be more than 140 million tax returns to be filed by the April 15 tax deadline.
