US Senator Chuck Schumer introduced the "Family Grocery and Farmer Relief Act” at Brooks Barbecue in Oneonta Monday. Schumer said that 4 companies own 67% of the pork, 60% of the chicken, and 85% of the beef,” leading no competition in the food industry, and higher costs for everyone. If passed through Congress and signed by the president, meatpacking conglomerates could control only one type of meat and the Federal Trade Commission would enforce the legislation. Schumer said the bill could brought to the floor for a vote soon.

The SUNY Oneonta Alumni Association will host the annual Alumni Weekend This Friday through Sunday. This is the first in-person weekend since 2019, due to the pandemic, 500 alumni and friends have already registered. Activities include the Cans ‘n Clams Picnic, a nature hike, a Brooks’ Barbecue lunch, and a cornhole tournament, there will be awards ceremonies for the Athletic Hall of Fame, Alumni of Distinction, and the Alumni Association Annual Award winners. The Afton SADD chapter & Afton Driver Education announced a Brooks Chicken Barbecue to benefit the family of Lynn Bascuiska today, during the boys & girls basketball games with Sidney. Pick up or eat in available from 4:00 to 7:00 PM. Plans also call for raffling off baskets & other prizes throughout the night.
