Church was re-sentenced in Delaware County Court to 2.5 years in state prison to be followed by 1 year of post release supervision. A Delaware County Grand Jury returned a 4 Count Indictment against 36 year old William Weil of Bainbridge last week. Weil was indicted for Aggravated DWI, Felony DWI & Endangering the welfare of a child, for allegedly driving intoxicated with a child in his vehicle in Delhi on January 22nd, the DWI is a felony as Weil was convicted of DWI within the last 10 years. Weil faces action on the indictments shortly.

Thousands of unlawful vape and marijuana products were seized from a Conklin gas station as part of a compliance check by the Broome County Health Department. On March 9, members of the Sheriff’s Office and the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force assisted the Broome County Health Department with a flavored nicotine vape compliance check at the “One Dream” Sunoco gas station located at 976 Conklin Rd in the Town of Conklin, they seized approximately 4,000 unlawful flavored nicotine vapes along with THC products, The business does not possess a valid license to dispense THC products. The unlawful flavored vapes are not taxed. In 2019, New York raised the legal age to purchase tobacco and vape products to 21, and in 2020 the state banned the sale of flavored vaping products, other than tobacco flavor. The compliance check was generated via a tip from the Susquehanna Valley Central School District.

Sidney Police Department received a complaint Thursday of an unresponsive male seated in a vehicle blocking the automatic car wash at the Mirabito gas station on West Main Street. The Sidney Police Department K9 Unit responded and made contact with the individual. During the investigation, a quantity of methamphetamine, cocaine, and fentanyl was located inside the vehicle. Police arrested Jason Gray of Bainbridge for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Stimulant with Intent to Sell, Gray was processed and was transported to Delaware County Central Arraignment Court.
The Goodyear Lake Polar Bear Jump will return to Goodyear Lake on February 21st, to raise money for area children suffering from a variety of health issues. The event has been held locally for 28 years, Last year they raised $186,000 through donations and auctions, 100% of the proceeds go directly to the children and their families. Delaware County Deputies arrested a Bainbtridge resident Thursday in the Village of Delhi, Deputies observed a vehicle being operated by a male passenger, from the passenger seat, without a driver in the driver seat. 35-year-old William Weil of Bainbridge, appeared to be intoxicated & had a child in the vehicle, he was charged with the Aggravated DWI- child in vehicle, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the 1st degree, Driving with a BAC of .08 of 1%, Reckless Driving, Felony DWI & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Weil was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.

The Unatego Elementary School won the elementary division with 2,122 pounds of plastic film recycled & Springbrook won in the high school division with 801 pounds of plastic film recycled. 10 participating schools diverted a total of 4,655.4 pounds of plastic film, each winning division will receive an ice cream social event.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 35 year old Jacob Snook of Gilbertsville on multiple charges following the execution of a search warrant following a residential fire in the Town of Butternuts. Snook was charged with Criminal Manufacture of Undetectable Firearm, Criminal Possession of Ammunition Feeding Device, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Criminal Possession of a Ghost Gun, among other similar charges, Deputies and investigators executed the search warrant at the residence and discovered that Snook had two 3D printers to manufacture untraceable firearms, plus loaded high-capacity magazines and a large quantity of ammunition, he was taken into custody and was being held at the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await Centralized Arraignment.

State Police held a graduation ceremony today for the Canine Handler Basic School. The ceremony was held at the State Police Academy in Albany. A total of 12 canine teams graduated, The canines and their handlers underwent 20 weeks of training at the New York State Police Canine Training Facility located in Cooperstown, In Troop C, Trooper Shane Jones, Canine Hedges were part of the Graduating class, Canine Hedges is named after Trooper Richard L. Hedges, who was killed in a traffic accident while on duty in 1942.

Broome County District Attorney's office announced that 56 year old Daniel Erickson of Greene, pleaded guilty in Broome County Court to Luring a Child, which was the top charge of the Indictment against him. Between June 28, 2023, and July 7, 2023, Erickson communicated with a 16-year-old student through Snapchat, for the purpose of luring the victim into a vehicle with the intention to engage in sexual acts. Broome County Sheriff's Office Detectives were able to apprehend Erickson before he made any physical contact with the victim. Erickson was fired from his position as a Middle School Principal in the Johnson City School District, he will be sentenced on July 30th to 6 months in jail, followed by 5 years’ of probation supervision, he was ordered to pay restitution to the victim, & he must register as a sex offender to the state's registry. Erickson will appear back in Broome County Court on May 6th for the purpose of turning himself in to begin serving the jail time.

Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 37 year old Scott Hanrahan of Sanford for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of an Assault Weapon & Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. On Saturday Broome County Sheriff’s Road Patrol conducted a traffic stop on Route I-86 West in the Town of Windsor, deputies located cocaine, along with various assault weapons & multiple rounds of ammunition, Hanrahan had previous felony convictions & is facing new charges for illegal weapon and drug possession following the traffic stop. Hanrahan was arraigned at Central Arraignment Part and remains in custody at the Broome County Correctional Facility.

State Police received a cybertip of child sexual abuse material that was uploaded to a mobile messaging application in November, An investigation determined that 31 year old Bethany Crispell of Smithville, used a mobile messaging application to view and exchange child sexual materials. Crispell was charged with Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child Under the Age of 17 and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, she was remanded to the Cortland County Correctional Facility and is due to appear in the Town of Smithville Court on February 6th.

State Police received a cybertip of child sexual abuse material that was uploaded to a mobile messaging application in November, An investigation determined that 31 year old Bethany Crispell of Smithville, used a mobile messaging application to view and exchange child sexual materials. Crispell was charged with Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child Under the Age of 17 and Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, she was remanded to the Cortland County Correctional Facility and is due to appear in the Town of Smithville Court on February 6th.
Bainbridge Initiative is a group that started last summer, to try to deal with various issues facing Bainbridge & elsewhere, like substance abuse, homelessness & helping area youth making healthier choices. The group has invited Truth Pharm to Bainbridge this Saturday for Narcan training, according the Bainbridge Initiative spokesperson Carole Kanzer:
