Delaware County Sheriff’s Office responded Wednesday to a 2 car head on accident on County Highway 12 in the Town of Davenport. 1 person was trapped in 1 of the vehicles, EMT's attempted to perform life saving measures, however, 63-year-old Jean Bedard of Davenport was deceased, 53-year-old Richard Sanford of Davenport suffered minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene. State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit were called to the scene where the roadway remained closed for several hours while the crash was reconstructed by investigators.


Governor Hochul Made a Reproductive Freedom announcement, where she refused to sign extradition papers to turn over a New York Doctor to Louisiana to face murder charges:

Additional actions have been taken in recent weeks by the governor, after New York Doctor Margaret Carpenter was charged with murder in Louisiana for prescribing legal abortion pills online to a pregnant minor.


19 year old Quamir Hazel of Endicott was sentenced in Broome County Court to 8.5 years in State Prison followed by 5 years of post-release supervision for Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Last August 16th in Vestal, Hazel was found to be in possession of an operable Glock 9mm firearm loaded with 18 rounds of ammunition. Hazel was originally expected to receive an 8-year sentence at today's sentencing. However, due to a petit larceny incident that occurred in the Broome County Jail, his sentence was extended by an additional 6 months.


2 incarcerated individuals were arrested this week after attacking corrections officers at the Broome County Correctional Facility in separate incidents. On Tuesday, 35 year old Aaron Raymond refused to remove clothing wrapped around his head and neck, he ignored commands, officers entered his cell, he became combative & grabbed an officer by the neck and collar and choking him, Raymond struck another officer in the face before the altercation ended. Raymond was charged with Assault on a Police Officer, 2nd degree Assault and Strangulation. Last Sunday 41 year old Michael Fiore of Binghamton, NY, attacked corrections staff while during booking for a contempt charge, Fiore refused several lawful orders to comply with the medical screening process before attacking corrections officers, kneeing 1 officer in the face and causing injury. Fiore was charged with 2nd degree Assault and Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced she has signed an Executive Order activating members of the New York National Guard to help ensure the safety and security of New York State's correctional facilities while the illegal and unlawful work stoppage by correction officers continues. This Order also provides authority for additional overtime compensation for correction officers and other staff who are reporting for duty and actively working to secure our facilities. Governor Hochul also directed the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision and the Office of Employee Relations to retain independent mediator Martin Scheinman to help bring a quick and immediate end to this illegal work stoppage. Earlier today, New York State filed an injunction under the Taylor Law and a judge granted a temporary restraining order mandating striking correction officers to cease the illegal activity.


State Police arrested 57 year old Todd Quick of Sidney for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, following a one-vehicle crash where the vehicle went off of County Highway 14 in the town of Franklin. Quick failed the Field Sobriety Tests, he was arrested and his BAC was .20. He was processed and issued appearance tickets to the Franklin Town Court on March 13th & he was released to a sober third party. State Police announced that 13 people were charged with DWI in Troop C in the period of February 10th to the 16th.


Governor Hochul and US Senator Charles Schumer announced that BAE Systems is investing $65 million to expand operations in the Village of Endicott, Broome County. The company will add a total of 150,000 square-feet to its existing site to make way for the addition of a new battery production line and lab space, and new office space. As a result of the expansion, the company has committed to creating up to 134 good-paying jobs onsite. For additional information, visit: jobs.baesystems.com/global/en.


Police are investigating a crash in Oneonta Wednesday afternoon. an unidentified 94 year old woman from West Oneonta drove her car into the front of the Rite Aid Store on Chestnut Street in Oneonta, no injuries were reported.

collaboration on the Raymond Welding Production Center, which opened in

to accompany the Raymond annual holiday tree display at the Roberson Museum and
in Binghamton, The holiday display has been returned & will remain at the
Sidney Central School District.

Shell of the new Bainbridge Community Center on Prospect Street is up & the
work is continuing, Bainbridge Chamber of Commerce President John Payne

Delaware
Valley Humane Society not only had a major success with their fundraising drive
in conjunction with Staffworks, but they also gained attention with housing

shelter also received over $76,000 in donations & will start with a few
upgrades at their Sidney facility shortly.


Governor Cuomo today announced 61 New York State businesses, community colleges and community-based organizations will receive $3.4 million as part of the state's Workforce Development Initiative.  Grant funds are provided by the Department of Labor, NYSERDA and The State University of New York.  Among the businesses participating in the Southern Tier are BAE Systems & Dick's Sporting Goods Distribution Center.

Chenango
County Sheriff’s Department responded early Wednesday morning to a 3 vehicle
crash on State Route 12 in Oxford.
Deputies reported A Tractor Trailer operated by Jereme Lehmer of Oxford
attempted to make a turn on a side road, A 2012 Ford operated by Kathryn Frear
of Greene was following the tractor trailer & began to slow for the turning
tractor trailer, she was rear-ended by a box truck operated by Kenneth Price of
Buffalo, which forced the Frear vehicle into the back of the Lehmer tractor
trailer. Frear was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident is still under
investigation and more information will be released at a later date.


The
Otsego County Chamber of Commerce announced that they will host a Labor &
Employment Law Update this morning from 8:00 to 10:30 AM. The meeting will be
held at Northern Eagle Beverages at 41 Browne Street in Oneonta by law offices
Hinman, Howard and Kattell.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office 27 year old Trinity Hafner of Norwich for DWI and other charges.  Hafner was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and 2nd degree Obstruction of Governmental Administration following traffic stop on State Highway 12, in the Town of Greene.  Deputies reported that Hafner drove a vehicle while intoxicated and attempted to switch places with another individual in the vehicle to appear not to be the driver. Hafner was arraigned in the Town of Greene Court & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $1,000 cash bail and will reappear before the Town of Greene Court on December 13th.


The state Senate IS SCHEDULED TO RETURN TO ALBANY THIS WEDNESDAY For a special session to pass several pieces of legislation.  The bills that are expected to pass include one that reforms the tax code, another that provides money for continued flood recovery and approves tax incentives (http://www.pressconnects.com/article/20121207/NEWS01/102020002/Libous-Tax-reform-flood-aid-BAE-incentives-pass?odyssey=tab%7Ctopnews%7Ctext%7CFRONTPAGE) to keep BAE Systems in the Southern Tier.  The package of bills would drop New York to the 6th highest income tax burden behind  Hawaii, California, Iowa, New Jersey and Vermont, the state has traditionally placed first or second in that dubious category.


The Chenango county sheriff’s department arrested 26 year old Diana Essig of Greene, for criminally possessing a Hypodermic Instrument.  Essig was arrested following an investigation into a reported larceny at the Norwich Wal-Mart; she was stopped for questioning and found to be in possession of hypodermic needles.  Essig was arraigned in the Town of Norwich court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $500 cash bail and is to re-appear in the Town of Norwich at a later date.


Chenango county Deputies & the Village of Sherburne Police Arrested a 16 year old Village of Earlville resident while investigating a one car roll-over accident in the Town of Sherburne.  While processing the accident scene a plastic bag containing marihuana was found.  The operator of the vehicle was processed and issued an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.  The unidentified teen was charged with Unlawful possession of marihuana, speed not reasonable and prudent, and moved from lane unsafely, operating a motor vehicle with a NYS DJ license with more than two passengers under the age of 21.


The Chenango County Health Department will host a flu clinic today in Norwich.  The Flu Clinic will be held in the basement offices of the county health department at the Chenango County Office Building, from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, appointment are requested at 337-1660.

Governor Cuomo met with local leaders in at the Greater Binghamton Airport, as well as BAE systems & Norwich Pharmaceuticals today,  regarding the success of last year’s southern tier regional economic development projects:

The southern tier economic development council won 1 of the 4 grants given out last year. 2 other councils in the WCDO Listening area also received awards last year.  10 councils are vying for 4 awards in the next cycle.

Attorney General Eric  Schneiderman today announced the arrests of 39 individuals and the seizure of more than one million dollars in cocaine as part of a takedown of three large-scale drug distribution networks. The networks transported cocaine from the New York City and Buffalo,  to be sold in Cortland, Syracuse and Watertown. The Attorney General’s office conducted a series  of raids early this morning and confiscated in excess of ten kilograms of cocaine and arrested the defendants. The Investigation is continuing.


New York farmers dropped off truckloads of locally grown food to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York today. The event is in conjunction with the New York Farm Bureau's Annual Meeting in Albany. Today's donations bring the total of food donated by farmers across the state this year to more than 5.3 million pounds.


Oneonta city manager Michael Long has received credentialed manager designation from the international city-county management association.  Long is one of 20 in new York state now accredited, he recently was appointed as the city of Oneonta’s first ever city manager.


The State DOT today announced that pavement work will be performed on State Route 17 eastbound that will require the closure of the on-ramp to Interstate 81 northbound in the City of Binghamton, beginning at 6:00 tonight.  A signed detour will guide motorists to exit 4 Hillcrest-Binghamton,  to resume travel northbound on Interstate 81. crews will also be performing overhead sign work on State Route 17 eastbound between exit 71 Airport Road  and exit 72 Front Street, starting at 6::00 pm tonight, both projects are expected to be completed by midnight tonight.

The Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple tractor-trailers MVA on Interstate 81 south in the Town of Kirkwood Tuesday morning at about 5:40 AM.   Deputies arrived to find numerous vehicles on fire, blocking all lanes and with a significant diesel fuel spill. The Preliminary investigation revealed that a southbound tractor-trailer from Canada, hauling canned goods, rear-ended a car carrier loaded with new SUV’s, 3 of them burst into flames. The second tractor-trailer then veered to the left, striking a third tractor-trailer and sheared open the fuel tank. The first truck, operated by Andrew High out of Ontario, Canada, also caught fire and came to rest partially in the median of Interstate 81.  High suffered a head injury and was transported to Wilson Hospital for treatment; he was ticketed for Following Too Closely. The investigation is continuing and further charges may be filed.  Interstate 81 South was closed for over 3 hours before opening two lanes of traffic.


Governor Cuomo will visit Broome County today.  The governor is expected to tour BAE systems as part of the Regional Economic Development Tour.  Regional economic councils are vying for state funds for economic development projects.


More than 70 NYSEG and RG&E gas fitters, gas supervisors, field service representatives and garage mechanics are supporting natural gas service restoration on Long Island, as the recovery from Hurricane Sandy continues. About one-third of the NYSEG and Rochester Gas & Electric employees arrived on Long Island on Monday, November 26th the remainder arrived there last Friday.  The NYSEG employees were dispatched from Binghamton, Oneonta, Norwich and many other locations.


The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 20-year-old Travis Demuth of Oxford for 2nd degree Criminal Contempt.   Demuth is accused of violating an active order of protection issued in the Town of Norwich Court; he was released on his own recognizance and is to reappear in the Town of Afton Court at a later date.
