State Police released more details about the February 19th town of Walton arson, with 2 murders and a suicide. Lieutenant Eric Dauber of the state police BCI unit said that police were summoned to the John Lockwood road residence to serve a warrant to Debra Sundstrom for failure to appear in court for several counts of grand larceny, police heard 2 shots, where Sundstrom shot a dog and then her self, after setting the house on fire. Lieutenant Dauber said that they went to question Randy Sundstrom at the family address at 1884 South River Road in Walton, only to find out that he had not been seen in 3 years, his body was found last Friday in the backyard there:

Lieutenant Dauber said that Dominick Bosco’s remains were found at the John Lockwood road residence, he was likely killed 1 to 3 days before the February 19th fire. The investigation is continuing anyone with information is asked to call State Police at 561-7400.
Assemblyman Cliff Crouch is inviting constituents to join him at the New York 2nd Amendment Day in Albany Thursday, starting with a legislative day from 9:00 A.M. to 12:45 PM at the LEGISLATIVE OFFICE BUILDING and a rally in the West Capitol Park at the South Swan Street side, beginning at 12:00 Noon. Crouch told WCDO News why he opposes the NY Safe Act:

Crouch said that he expects hundreds to turn up Thursday in Albany to rally against the act, which he said was hastily put together by the governor as a knee jerk response to the Newtown Connecticut school shooting.
Veronica Taft of Binghamton was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison, for the murder of her 2 year old son Lyric in December of 2010 in their Binghamton home, the toddler died from severe trauma. Taft was given the maximum sentence in Broome County Court.
State Troopers at Troop C in Sidney arrested 48-year-old Allan Waltz Jr. of Sidney Center, for Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 7 in Unadilla; Waltz was issued tickets returnable to the Town of Unadilla Court on March 11th.
Price Chopper supermarkets agreed to a settlement with the state that will require them to change the way it advertises and promotes its coupons. The agreement followed complaints about a misleading coupon policy, where Price Chopper advertised that they accepted double coupons without disclosing important restrictions. Price Chopper is now required to clearly and conspicuously disclose any face value limits on coupon redemption; they agreed to pay $100,000 in civil penalties and costs to the State. Price Chopper operates 79 stores statewide.
State police have arrested 45-year-old Jose Gonzalez of Windsor following a 7-hour stand off yesterday on Bennet road in Windsor. Police responded to the report of a domestic dispute, where Gonzalez allegedly threatened 2 people with a rifle and barricaded himself inside. Police entered the home and found Gonzalez hiding in a closet, he is charged with menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child & faces court action shortly.
The U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments Wednesday in a case challenging the constitutionality of a core provision of the Voting Rights Act. State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman led a 4-state coalition to argue that the Court should reject the constitutional challenge given the important role that the Voting Rights Act plays in blocking and deterring voting discrimination. The brief was filed jointly with California, Mississippi and North Carolina in the case of Shelby County Alabama vs. Holder.

The state of the state address kicks off the 2013 legislative season, the governor will deliver his executive budget proposal in the next couple of weeks.
Bainbridge officials announced that village crews have found the source of the leak, in a field behind the former Borden plant on Guilford Road. The leak has been repaired, all water has been turned back on, and the conserving of water is no longer necessary. Officials appreciated the cooperation from village residents & they suggested that only those who had dirty water in the last few days could voluntarily boil water for the remainder of the day today only.
Binghamton Fire Department officials believe that the fire that destroyed the former Pa's Woodshed building last week was arson. Officials have determined that at least 3 separate fires were started at about the same time inside the building on Montgomery Street last week. The building had been vacant at the time of the fire; investigators will try to determine who may have started the fire that completely destroyed the structure.
Following the January tax law changes made by Congress under the American Taxpayer Relief Act, the Internal Revenue Service announced today it plans to open the 2013 filing season and begin processing individual income tax returns on January 30th. The IRS originally planned to open electronic filing this year on Jan. 22; more than 80 percent of taxpayers filed electronically last year. Updated information will be posted on IRS.gov.
The Chenango county sheriff’s department arrested 37-year-old Jared Backus of Afton on an active bench warrant out of the Town of Norwich. Backus was arrested for failing to appear for a scheduled Court date last month to answer to a Petty Larceny charge, he was arraigned in the Town of Oxford court & was remanded to Chenango County Jail on $1,000 bail and scheduled to appear in the Town of Norwich court at a later date.

The Supreme Court decision holds business owner John Tebbetts responsible for selling deceptively labeled drug products to consumers from his 8 upstate head shops, & for denying that the products were meant for human consumption. Schneidermann’s lawsuit attempted to stop the sale of “Bath Salts” and “Synthetic Marijuana” in violation of the state's labeling laws.
Chenango County Health Department is providing Free Flu shots for anyone age 6 months and older. Due to the early onset and increasing number of flu cases occurring in Chenango County and surrounding Counties, the County Health Department will be waiving the $10.00 fee for a flu shot.
