The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 31 year old Andrew Whitney of Norwich for driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with .08, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, numerous equipment violations, and on arrest and bench warrants.  Whitney is accused of operating a motor vehicle in an intoxicated state; deputies also found that there was an active bench warrant from Town of Norwich Court for failure to appear for sentencing, and on an arrest warrant from City of Norwich for petty larceny and conspiracy.  Whitney was arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on  $11,000 total cash bail pending action in both courts.


The Chenango County Sheriff’s department arrested 34-year-old Timothy Cunnius of Sherburne for DWI, aggravated DWI, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle & driving with blood alcohol content greater than .18%.  Cunnius was arrested following a traffic stop in the Town of North Norwich; he was processed and released to appear in the Town of North Norwich Court at a later date.


The state Assembly will be voting on a package of bills shortly to expand voting access for all New Yorkers.  Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver explains:

The measure follows low Voter participation in November 2012 election in New York which was a Presidential election, the bill is expected to pass the assembly & will be sent to the state senate for consideration.


Sidney village police arrested 42-year-old Stacey Martin of Sidney on a variety of charges.  Martin was charged with 6 counts of 4th degree grand larceny, and 3 counts of Petty larceny.  Martin faces court action at a later date.


Governor Cuomo today made millions of additional records from multiple government agencies available on Open.ny.gov (https://data.ny.gov/), which was launched earlier this year to provide access to data from the state, localities and the federal government. The new data published to Open.ny.gov today includes Campaign Contributions, Expenditures, and Committees, Lobbying data from the last six years, Attorney Registration & Budget Vetoes.


The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 19-year-old Devven Ferris of Sherburne for unlawful possession of marihuana.  Ferris was charged following a traffic stop, where marihuana was found hidden in a compartment.   Ferris was processed and released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Sherburne Court at a later date.


The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 23-year-old Joshua Knuth of Otselic for 3rd degree menacing.  Knuth is accused of pointing a BB gun at a person causing the person to be in fear of serious physical injury; he was arraigned & was released to appear in the Town of Otselic Court at a later date.


The UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation has announced an $80,000 gift to the hospital. The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested Elizabeth Polasik Of Norwich for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Fleeing and Failure to Comply with Lawful Order.  The arrest followed a traffic stop on State Highway 8 in the Town of Guilford, after deputies witnessed a vehicle traveling at an unsafe speed, a pursuit followed & the Polasik vehicle finally stopped.  Polasik was in possession of Morphine pills & was found to be intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of more than three times the legal limit.  Polasik was arraigned in the Town of Guilford Court and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $8,000 cash bail; she will reappear in Guilford court on a later date.


Motorists are advised that State Route 17 eastbound between exit 71 Airport Road and exit 72 Front Street will be reduced from 3 travel lanes to 1 for overhead sign work.  The work will be performed today between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.


The city of Oneonta planning commission will meet this evening, to consider the Hillside Commons Application and take public comment on the project.  The meeting will be held in the science wing of the Oneonta high school starting at 6:00 PM.

THE Otsego County Bar Association will observe “Law day” today, with a ceremony at 11:00 AM at the Otsego county courthouse in Cooperstown.  The theme for law day this year is “Realizing the dream, equality for all” the ceremony will also include the awarding of the “Liberty Bell Award” to an outstanding area high school student.
