State Police responded last night to a fatal crash
involving a car and a tractor trailer on State Route 8 and County Road 35 in
the town of Guilford.   The passenger of
the vehicle, 73 year old William Brett of Kenoza Lake, was killed during the crash
and the driver, 78 year old Patricia House of Kenoza Lake was transported by
ambulance to Wilson Medical Center and is in serious condition.  The unidentified driver of the tractor
trailer was not injured.  The
investigation revealed that the tractor trailer was northbound on State Highway
8 when the House vehicle, traveling on Chenango County Route 35, went through
the Stop Sign, through the intersection and wound up underneath the trailer
portion of the tractor trailer.  The
investigation is continuing.
Now that Christmas has passed, many area families
will be taking down their trees, Delaware county Solid Waste Coordinator Tyson

State Police arrested 36 year old Lucas Wank of Deposit for
Driving While Intoxicated & Possessing a Loaded Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
after a trooper was dispatched to a 1-car crash on Old Route 17 in the town of
Sanford.  Wank was transported to Wilson
Hospital for evaluation; he was issued appearance tickets to the town of
Sanford court for January 13th.

Stephanie Shulgay of Worcester pleaded guilty to 4th degree
Grand Larceny, for stealing about $33,000 from an elderly couple that she
worked for as a caretaker.  Shulgay was
sentenced to 12 weeks in jail and five years of probation, she has already
complied with full restitution
Destination Oneonta will hold
their 3rd Annual Day of Holiday Fun Saturday & Sunday.  Saturday celebrations include the Home for
the Holidays Parade at 4:00 PM, followed by the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony
at 5:30pm on Main Street in Muller Plaza; Santa will meet with children at
Santa's Cottage.  On Sunday, there will

Otsego County Sheriff's Department arrested 22 year old John
Morton of Fayetteville, for the theft of a motor vehicle from the Village of
Cooperstown on December 1st.  Police were
called to Stewart's following the complaint by a patron that when she returned
to her car from inside the store, her vehicle was gone; she did leave the car
unlocked with it running.   State Police
located the vehicle on State Route 28 in Richfield Springs, Morton was charged
with 3rd degree Grand Larceny, & 2 counts of Petty Larceny, he was
arraigned & remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $2000 cash bail or $4,000
bond pending future court action.

with Santa Claus will be held to in Downtown Sidney, Chamber President Teri

NY
State of Health announced its partnership with food pantries for the third
holiday season to educate consumers about enrolling in affordable health
insurance. Food pantries across New York will have certified enrollment
assistors on-site throughout November and December to answer questions about
health coverage options and how to enroll in a health plan. This year, the
Marketplace is also offering eligible New Yorkers the option to receive
information on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program during the
enrollment process.

Toys
For Tots & Norfolk Southern Railroad were unable to work out an agreement to
run its annual train through the southern Tier this year.  Last year, the train ran an abbreviated route
from Binghamton to Delanson, delivering about 18,000 toys to area organizations
for distribution.

A State
Police patrol vehicle was stuck by a tractor trailer Tuesday night in Tioga
County.  The trooper had just issued a
traffic ticket to a vehicle on State Route 17 in the town of Nichols & was
inside his marked patrol vehicle when a tractor trailer struck him from behind,
shearing off most of the driver’s side of the patrol car.  The tractor trailer did not stop & Troopers
and officers from Owego Police Department and Tioga County Sheriff’s Deputies
located and stopped the vehicle in Owego.
35-year-old Darvi Moreland of Florida was charged with DWI and several
vehicle and traffic tickets, he was arraigned in the town of Owego court and
remanded to the Tioga County Jail.   The
trooper was transported to Lourdes Hospital, treated and released.

The Deposit Fire Department responded to the report of a
Man working on a stationary trailer under a bridge in a work zone, getting
struck by a tractor trailer on State route 17 Monday.  The worker fell to the ground & sustained
only minor injuries, This accident is in the bridge construction zone near mile
marker 268 on Route 17 East in the Town of Sanford (just prior to Exit 82).
State DOT officials remind motorists to slow down in work zones, so far, no
tickets have been announced.
Following a recent
inspection, State DOT engineers are recommending immediate repairs with a
temporary closure and 5-ton weight restriction on the large culvert carrying
State Route 80 over Hayden Creek in the Town of Springfield in Otsego
County.  A new traffic pattern consists
of a 1-lane, 2-way operation controlled by a temporary traffic signal. Traffic

Resource Fair Today at the SUNY Broome Community College West Gymnasium from

The Fireman’s
Association of the State of New York announced that New York State is leading
the nation in civilian fire deaths this year.
So far in 2019, there have been 92 civilians that have died in fires
this year that number is expected to increase as the Association statistics
show that winter is the busiest time of the year for home fires.  Officials hope that the numbers decrease in
coming years as more New Yorkers replace the old style battery powered Smoke
Detectors with the new state of the art types with 10 year batteries that do
not need to be replaced annually.

A portion of State Route 8 in Sidney
will be named the Sidney Veterans' Memorial Highway under legislation signed
into law by Governor Cuomo Tuesday.  The
bill was sponsored by State Senator Jim Seward and Assemblyman Cliff Crouch
after the Village of Sidney requested the special highway designation.  A formal sign installation will be scheduled
with State DOT officials at a later date.
Delaware County Public Health
announced that the Local Early Intervention Coordinating Council will hold
their next meeting today from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon in Delhi. The Council is
made up of parents and professionals who consider early intervention issues for
children.  Today's meeting is open to the
public, it will be held in the Delaware County Public Health Conference Room

A 2nd child involved in Sunday's crash in Tioga County has
died from injuries sustained in a 2 vehicle crash.  11 year old Trinity Allen died at a Syracuse
Hospital, her brother Zachary died shortly after Sunday's accident on State
Route 17.  Tioga County Sheriff's office
said that the driver, 38 year old Darlene Allen was coming to a stop after
hitting a deer, her vehicle was hit from behind by a tractor trailer
truck.  Darlene Allen was in critical
condition at Packer hospital with undisclosed injuries following the accident,
the investigation is ongoing.
Chenango County Public Health  will hold an informational public meeting

The Tioga County Sheriff's Department responded to an
accident Sunday where a tractor-trailer crashed into a passenger vehicle driven
by 38 year old Darlene Allen of Sayre Pennsylvania on State Route 17 eastbound,
after Allen's vehicle struck a deer and slowed down. The tractor-trailer was
operated by 66-year-old Volodymyr Frolyak of Ontario, Canada, 7 year old
Zachary Allen died shortly after the collision, and 11 year old Trinity Allen
was taken to Packer Hospital and was then airlifted to Upstate Medical Center
in Syracuse, where she is in critical condition. 5 year old Nathan Slater was
taken to Packer Hospital and was treated & released. Darlene Allen was
taken to Packer Hospital and is in critical condition. The investigation is continuing.

10 area Fire Departments responded to a blaze at 687
State Highway 205 in the town of Oneonta, just north of the intersection with
State Route 23.  The fire was reported at
about 7:15 PM, 2 people were injured & were taken to Fox Hospital in
Oneonta.  The cause of the fire is under
investigation.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies responded early Saturday
morning to the call of 1-car motor vehicle accident involving a bicyclist on
State Route 80 in the Town of Columbus.
49 year old Allen Emrich of New Berlin struck the bicyclist, 30 year old
Martin Logsdon Jr, he was  pronounced
deceased at the scene.  Emrich was
operating the vehicle with a blood alcohol content of more than .08% & with
a child in the vehicle he was charged with Vehicular Manslaughter, Aggravated
DWI with a child in the car, Endangering the Welfare of a Child among other
charges, he was arraigned in the Town of Columbus Court & was remanded to
the Chenango County Correctional facility on $2500.00 cash bail. The
investigation is ongoing.
The Delaware County Solid Waste Management Facility will
host an open house and 'Trash 2 Cash' event in partnership with the Delaware
County Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, November 9.  Interested residents and business owners can
tour the facility & see how garbage is transformed into compost, &
turned into cash.  Tours will run from

Delaware County Sheriff’s deputies
responded to a 4 vehicle accident in Walton Monday.  19 year old Nathan Plante of Margaretville
was driving on State Route 10 when he veered into opposing lane to avoid
hitting vehicles that had stopped in front of him for construction.   Plante first hit a vehicle in the opposing
lane driven by 76-year-old James Zimmerman of South Carolina, then he hit a
vehicle stopped in his lane driven by 37-year-old Jarred Robinson of Walton,
Robinson's vehicle then hit a vehicle driven by 59-year-old Robin Wagner of
Tonawanda.   Robinson’s passenger Scott
Fitch was airlifted to Wilson Hospital for a spinal injury.  Robinson was taken to Delaware Valley Hospital
for a leg injury and Plante was also taken to Delaware Valley Hospital for
possible internal injuries.  Plante was
issued traffic summonses for “speed not reasonable and prudent” and failure to
keep right, he’ll appear in the town of Walton Court at a later date.

sentenced in Broome County Court this morning, following a guilty plea for
aggravated vehicular Assault.  Butash was
arrested after he was driving the wrong way on State Route 17 & crashed

serve 2 1/3 to 7 years in prison.

State Police arrested 20 Year Old Tyler Jordan of Oneonta
Saturday, after he allegedly drove into a utility pole while intoxicated at
about 2:45 AM Saturday.  Many Unadilla
Area residents lost power for several hours before NYSEG Crews restored
power.  Jordan was charged with DWI,
speeding & unsafe lane change on state Route 7 in Unadilla.
The State DOT will begin construction this morning on State
Route 10 in the Village and Town of Deposit. Crews are going to begin pavement
milling in the area of the Exit 84 Ramps and work North on State Route 10
through the Village. This project will take multiple days to complete.  There will be single lane alternating traffic
during construction hours with flaggers in place. Please use caution in the
area and expect delays.

Chenango County Waste Management
reminds county residents that the Latex Paint Exchange officially ends
September 30th at the North Norwich Transfer Station on State Route 12.   The site is open Tuesdays through Fridays

On Tuesday afternoon, Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies,
& State Police responded to a 2 car motor vehicle accident on State Highway
357, near Lawton Hill Road, in the Town of Franklin.  Deputies reported that 55 year-old Robert Ray
of Bainbridge travelled into the opposing lane & struck an on-coming
vehicle driven by 89 year-old Richard Dickson of Jensen Beach, Florida.  The Dickson vehicle subsequently ran off the
roadway and overturned in a ditch. Richard Dickson, and his 90-year-old
passenger, Helen Dickson suffered minor injuries and were transported to A.O.
Fox Hospital for treatment. Deputies later issued Ray traffic summonses for
failure to keep right and failure to wear a seatbelt.

The Friends of Rogers partnered with National Drive Electric
Week to host an Electric Car Show & Flea Market last Saturday, at Rogers
Environmental Education Center in Sherburne New York. This festival was held to
bring awareness and education about sustainable energy practices available in
the area. The show had a total of 18 electric and plug in hybrid cars on site
with over 40 rides given and over 125 people in attendance. This is just shy of
the Electric car show in Syracuse the previous Sunday where 20 plug-in vehicles
were on site. Friends of Rogers hope to make this an annual event.
The Sidney Central School
District Observatory will open October 4th from 9:00 to 10:00 PM.  The sessions at the Sidney Observatory are
free & open to the public; it is located behind the High School Building.

Governor Cuomo announced that more than $20 million is available
for a diesel truck and bus replacement program that will reduce the greenhouse
gas emissions and promote investment in cleaner fuel technologies.  A combination of more than $9 million from
the state's $127.7 million portion of the federal Volkswagen settlement and the
State DOT's allocation of $11 million in federal funds will provide new funding
for the New York Truck Voucher Incentive Program to permanently remove older,
polluting diesel trucks from New York's roadways and replace them with new, cleaner
technology trucks.
The American Red Cross announced that they need Donors of
all blood types to donate at upcoming blood drives.  Appointments can be made for a Blood Drive

The Otsego County Highway Department will close County
Highway 45 in the Town of Hartwick to all traffic for 2 more culvert
replacements.  Tomorrow, crews will be
closing highway 45 at the intersection with Lippitt Road, the road should be
opened at the end of the day, on Thursday, crews are going to be closing
Highway 45 a couple hundred feet south of Schidzick Road, and again the road
should be reopened at the end of the day.
Detours will be in place through Bill Powers Road, to Towers Road, to
Seminary Road & to State Route 28.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded to a car
& motorcycle accident Saturday night at about 9:25 PM at State Route 206
& Moran Road in the Town of Coventry.
Investigators said that 22 year old Vincent Corbo of Marathon was
operating a 1998 Suzuki motorcycle on State Route 206, when 19 year old Sean
Snyder of Afton was making a left turn from Moran Rd onto State Hwy 206, &
the vehicles collided.  Corbo was
transported to Wilson Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, Snyder
sustained a head injury was also transported to Wilson Hospital.

WCDO News — Friday 9-6-19 3 matching stories
State police are investigating a sewage spill that Thursday
afternoon at about 2:30 PM on County Route 10 near Elk Creek Road in the town
of Meredith.  The unidentified Driver of
the septic tanker was taken to Fox Hospital for evaluation, the driver rolled
the septic tanker, which spilled about 2,000 gallons of sewage, & struck a utility
Pole, temporarily knocking out phone & electric service in the east Meredith
area.  The septic tanker belonged to JB’s
Line Cleaning and Plumbing Service, the cause of the accident is under
investigation.
State Police responded to an early morning crash at
approximately 4:40 AM today on State Highway 12 near Phetteplace Road in the
town of Norwich.  The investigation
revealed that a 42-year-old male from Chittenango operating a delivery truck crossed
over the yellow lines & struck a tractor trailer head-on, the tractor trailer
burst into flames on contact.  The driver
of the tractor trailer was a 45-year-old male from Lisle.  Troopers reported that the delivery van driver
was transported to Wilson Memorial and later moved to Upstate Medical in
Syracuse, sustaining non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor
trailer was not injured.   State route 12
was closed for about 7 hours for the investigation & clean up; the roadway
was re-opened shortly before noon.  More
information will be released as it is made available. The accident remains

Governor Cuomo today announced
that the New York State Board for Historic Preservation has recommended adding
14 properties to the State and National Registers of Historic Places. In the
Southern Tier, the First Presbyterian Church of Deposit, Built in 1880, has
been recommended by the Governor.

Chenango County Officials announced that State Route 12
between Halfway House Road in the town of Norwich & State Route 220 is
closed, due to a 2 vehicle head on crash between a Van & A Tractor
Trailer.   The road will be closed for
several hours for the cleanup & investigation; motorists are advised to use
Chenango County Route 32 as a detour.

State Police responded to a 2 vehicle crash at County Routes 36 and 37 in Guilford today. a 52-year-old male of Bainbridge was operating a Honda, he made a U-turn directly in the path of a Pick-up truck pulling a loaded cattle trailer with 12 cows, driven by a 68-year old unidentified female from McDonough. The vehicles collided & exited the roadway. The Honda driver was transported by helicopter to Wilson Memorial Hospital where he died of his injuries. The 71 year old unidentified female passenger of the Honda was taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City. The pick-up driver declined medical treatment, 1 of the cows was killed during the crash. The investigation is continuing.

State Police and the DOT are continuing "Operation
Hardhat," as they try to crack down on work zone violations and promote
safe driving through active work zones on state highways.  State Trooper are patrolling active work
zones on I-81 in Broome and Route 17 in Tioga County; on Wednesday troopers
issued 21 tickets in the I-81 work zone on Interstate 81 in Broome County, 16
were cell phone tickets, 2 for the Move Over Law, 2 for Moving From a Lane
Unsafely & 1 for a seat belt violation.

State Troopers are patrolling
active DOT work zones along Interstate-81 in Broome County and State Route 17
in Tioga County this week to enforce work zone speed limits and that motorist’s
follow the state’s Move Over Law.
President Trump has signed the
Family Farmer Relief Act, which eases the process of reorganizing debt for
farmers through Chapter 12 bankruptcy rules. 19th District Congressman Antonio
Delgado introduced the legislation in April with bipartisan support.  The legislation passed the House on July 26,
the Senate on August 2nd.
