P.M. NEWS FRIDAY 7-10-26

Oneonta Firefighters responded this morning to a reported structure fire at 525 Main Street at the Oneonta veterinary Hospital. 3 on-duty firefighters arrived within minutes to find fire rapidly extending up the exterior wall of the building. Crews knocked down the fire, checked for extension, and searched the building to ensure the fire had not spread into the structure, off duty Firefighters were called back to assist.

State Police responded to a report of a child in distress at a swimming pool at the Binghamton Country Club on Robinson Hill Road. Upon the Troopers’ arrival, bystanders and lifeguards had already initiated lifesaving measures for an unresponsive 11-year-old boy, Troopers assisted in those efforts until the child was transported by ambulance to Wilson Medical Center and subsequently flown to Upstate University Hospital, where the child passed away. The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office following further examination. No foul play is suspected at this time.

$6.3 million of the $54 million distributed to SUNY schools are going to Southern Tier universities, SUNY Chancellor John King Jr. announced that $5.8 million of that money will go to Binghamton University while the remaining $500,000 will go toward SUNY Delhi, for student services and research performed by the universities.

The Madison County District Attorney, State Police, University Police at SUNY Morrisville and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office announced that an arrest has been made in connection with a shooting on the SUNY Morrisville campus that left a 20-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the neck back on November 3rd of 2025. The victim was not a student, and was taken to Upstate Medical Hospital for emergency surgery. A Madison County grand jury indicted 19 year old Kido Simon on 6 counts, including attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal use of a firearm. Simon was a student at SUNY Morrisville at the time of the shooting, he is being held at Madison County Jail on bail set at $1,000,000 cash, $1,500,000 bond and $2,000,000 partially unsecured bond. Simon’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 3 at the Madison County Courthouse. 1 other person is wanted in connection with this case who remains at large.

Sidney Police Department responded to a 3 vehicle head on collision Thursday Morning at about 10:20 AM on State Route 8 & River Street. Upon arrival, officers determined that a commercial Box Truck traveling southbound on State Route 8, was involved in a head-on collision with 2 vehicles traveling in the opposite direction. 1 driver sustained injuries and was transported by Lifenet to Upstate Medical University Hospital for treatment. The other two drivers were treated at Tri-Town Regional Hospital and subsequently released. The Sidney Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Sidney Fire Department, Sidney EMS, State Police & DOT, among others, The cause of the accident remains under investigation at this time.

State Police responded to I-88 in Afton for a crash involving a Department of Transportation vehicle and a pick-up truck. Troopers learned that a crew of 7 DOT workers were completing pothole repairs along the east bound lanes of I-88, an attenuator truck in the right lane warned drivers that there was roadwork ahead and that the right lane was closed, while a second attenuator truck was in the vicinity of the crew members. A Pick-up truck pulling an enclosed trailer with picnic tables crashed into rear of the second attenuator truck, The DOT worker that was operating the attenuator and the 20-year-old operator of the pick-up truck were both transported to Wilson Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Both eastbound lanes were closed during the removal of the vehicles. Troopers were assisted by Afton Fire, Bainbridge Fire, Sidney Ambulance.

State Police responded to South Hall of the SUNY Morrisville Campus Monday afternoon at 3:45 pm, they found a 20-year-old male, who was not a student, with a gunshot wound to the neck. The victim was transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, No other injuries were reported and a suspect has not been located, the investigation is continuing. Normal class schedules resumed this morning.

39-year-old Brent Fallon of Binghamton is in Critical Condition after he was badly burned at a NYSEG substation in Binghamton recently. Fallon sustained 2nd and 3rd-degree burns over much of his body, he was taken to Wilson Hospital & was later transferred to the burn unit at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.

4 people were injured in a 2 car crash on State Highway 206 near Bear Spring Mountain Tuesday at about 4:00 PM. Walton Fire and EMS were dispatched they found 2 vehicles with heavy front-end damage, 1 went over the guardrail and down the embankment, 2 patients were transported to Delaware Valley Hospital, 2 others were airlifted to trauma centers by LifeNet helicopters. The road was closed for several hours last night for accident reconstruction & clean up.

State Police arrested 31 year old Pierce Tobin of Oneonta for 2nd degree Assault following a violent incident at the Homer Folks Facility. On May 9th, Troopers, SUNY University Police, and the Oneonta Town Constable responded to a report of an assault, An investigation revealed that Tobin became aggressive after being informed by a staff member that he was not permitted to smoke. Tobin punched the staff member in the face and bit off a portion of the victim’s ear. The victim was treated at A.O. Fox Hospital. Tobin was taken into custody at the scene and was arraigned & was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $5,000 cash/credit or $10,000 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, The investigation remains ongoing.

Binghamton Police responded to the Salvation Army at 131 Washington Street yesterday afternoon, Officers found a 57-year-old male suffering from stab wounds, the man was taken to an area hospital and was pronounced dead. 37-year-old Michael Brutvan allegedly entered the building and stabbed the victim several times & fled the scene, but was located & arrested. Brutvan has been charged with 2nd-degree murder, the investigation is continuing.

State troopers responded to 5 incidents on I-88 Friday morning, during the morning commute with icy road conditions, vehicles slid off the road between Sidney & Davenport, 1 person was taken to Fox Hospital for minor injuries & was treated & released.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Saturday to an ATV crash near Fuller Hollow Road in the Town of Hamden. Prior to Deputies’ arrival, Delaware County 911 reported that a victim had been privately transported to Delaware Valley Hospital in the Village of Walton with a second victim still on scene. Deputies located the 2nd victim, an 11-year-old male, at a residence, who was transported to Albany Medical Center by Life Net for non-life-threatening injuries. The 1st Victim was a 13-year-old female who was pronounced deceased at the Delaware Valley Hospital, due to injuries sustained from the crash.

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand will join elected officials and educators to encourage Binghamton University students to apply to the DoD Cyber Service Academy scholarship program, which provides full college tuition in return for public service in the Department of Defense or the Intelligence Community. Successful applicants will serve one year in the DoD or the IC as a civilian employee for each year of their scholarship. Gillibrand's event begins at 3:00 this afternoon at the Binghamton University Innovative Technologies Complex at 85 Murray Hill Road in Vestal.

UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will launch “Be the Light,” to illuminate Newton House on Broad Street in Norwich. With a suggested donation of $20, community members can purchase a light that celebrates or memorializes a loved one. Names of honorees will be displayed at CMH throughout December. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 40 year old Whitney Bachanas of Milford on 3 counts of Aggravated Animal Cruelty, following a recent animal abuse investigation. Bachanas was charged following an investigation in collaboration with Susquehanna SPCA, Cornell University Veterinary Hospital and Upstate Veterinary Specialties, she was originally charged with multiple counts of animal cruelty in September, and has been additionally charged with 3 counts of Aggravated Animal Cruelty, she was issued an appearance ticket for town of Milford Court.

Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 43 year old Whitney Bachanas of Milford woman for animal cruelty after Deputies responded to County Highway 35 in the Town of Milford for a welfare check. Bachanas was charged with Abandonment of Animals, Failure to provide proper sustenance, Deputies located several animals abandoned, malnourished and mistreated. 2 emaciated dogs in critical condition were transported to Cornell University animal hospital. A 3rd dog was located deceased as well as a turkey and a quail. 2 quail were rescued for foster and rehabilitation. The Susquehanna SPCA, Cornell University and Farm Friends Network assisted in this rescue and investigation. Bachanas was issued appearance tickets and is set to appear in court at a later date.

Troopers were dispatched to the report of children locked inside a hot vehicle and screaming at the Oneonta Walmart parking lot on a 99 degree day. The children were exhibiting signs of distress from the heat, Good Samaritans gave the children water, they were removed from the car and were taken to Fox Hospital & 39 year old Kurtis Carpel of Mount Upton, NY was charged with 2 counts of Reckless Endangerment and 3 counts of Aggravated Driving While Impaired with Child as Passenger after an investigation revealed that he was impaired. Carpel was taken to Otsego County Jail for Centralized Processing and Arraignment.

State Police were dispatched Saturday to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in the town of Ithaca. 19 year old Max Ross of Lafayette Louisiana was in stable condition at Packer Hospital in Sayre, 30 year old Blake Curtis of the Cornell University Police Department has been charged with Vehicular Assault and DWI, Curtis immediately called 911. The investigation is ongoing.

State University of New York Board of Trustees announced an additional allocation of $114 million in direct state tax support across the state-operated SUNY campuses from the Fiscal Year 2025 enacted New York State budget. The money will be used for salary increases and internship funding,

45 year old Katrina Lott of West Edmeston pleaded guilty to Driving While Intoxicated and was sentenced to 3 years of probation, in Deposit Town Court last week. On June 13, 2023, Lott was driving on County Route 8, when she lost control of her vehicle and drove into the ditch. A State Trooper responded to the crash scene and determined that Lott was likely under the influence of alcohol when open containers were spotted in the vehicle. Lott had a BAC of .16% - two times the legal limit.

2 Law Enforcement officers were killed, and the suspect was also killed in an incident in Liverpool Sunday night. Syracuse Police Officers encountered a suspicious vehicle Sunday Night, they attempted a traffic stop & the vehicle took off, officers did get the License plate number, it was traced to a Liverpool address to stop the vehicle, Syracuse Police & Onondaga Sheriff's Deputies responded & were encountered by an armed male and an exchange of gunfire followed. One Syracuse Police Officer and one Onondaga County Sheriff’s Deputy were struck by gunfire. The armed suspect was also shot, all 3 were taken to Upstate University Hospital, all 3 succumbed to their injuries.

24-year-old Kelvin Marfo of Delhi was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operator of a Motor Vehicle, plus other charges following an accident investigation. On April 6th Deputies responded to an iPhone Crash Detection for a motor vehicle accident on State Highway 28 in the Town of Meredith. Deputies found the motor vehicle accident, 2 of the occupants were transported for non-life-threatening injuries to a local hospital, while 2 others were treated by EMS. Marfo’s driving privileges were suspended for Failing to Answer a Summons, Marfo was issued an Appearance Ticket to appear before the Town of Meredith Court at a later date.

Last Wednesday, Oneonta Police Department was called to investigate a reported gunshot wound by A.O. Fox hospital emergency room staff. Officers learned that 51-year-old John Walley of Otego was transported to the hospital by a third party in a private vehicle, which left before police arrived. Walley was interviewed briefly and stated that he was on Chestnut Street when he was injured by a bullet, no evidence at the scene was found, he was re-interviewed & has refused to cooperate. The case will be closed but may be re-opened should additional information be received and the victim agree to cooperate. The Susquehanna SPCA & the Otsego County Sheriff's Department responded to the Town of Laurens for the report of a possible dog-abandonment case. Deputies discovered 5 dogs deceased in garbage bags and 4 who appeared to have abandoned, the 4 were removed & are currently being cared for at the Susquehanna SPCA, the 5 deceased animals were brought to Cornell University for forensic examinations. The Sheriff's Office is looking for the owner of the dogs, the investigation is continuing. State Police responded early Monday morning to a domestic dispute at 10 Debra Lee Drive, Apalachin. Troopers and EMS personnel provided lifesaving treatment to an injured male and female at the scene. The female died as a result of injuries sustained during the domestic dispute. The injured male was transported to Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, where he currently remains in stable condition. This incident remains under investigation.

Early Saturday at 2:04 AM the City of Norwich Fire Department was dispatched for the report of a structure fire involving a “carport” at 19 Miller Street in the City, firefighters found a working house fire, a single occupant was located at a 2nd floor window, jumped from the window & was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital & was transported to University Hospital in Syracuse, listed in critical condition. Norwich Fire Department was assisted by the North Norwich & Oxford Fire Departments, Norwich Fire Chief Jan Papelino said that several tenants did escape, but 2 adult individuals were deceased. The investigation into the incident is still on going, with the City of Norwich Police Department, and the Chenango County Office Emergency Services Fire Investigation Unit.

Oneonta Police responded last Tuesday to the area of 30 Center Street to the report of a male that had suffered a gunshot wound. A 36-year-old male was located and was taken to an area hospital, an assailant fled the scene prior. Oneonta Police were assisted by State Police, State University Police at Oneonta and the Otsego County Sheriff's Office in the search for a suspect & collecting of evidence. Oneonta Police were able to identify the suspect as Miguel Alcaraz, who was taken into custody & was charged with 2nd degree Burglary last Wednesday. Otsego County Sheriff's Office & Cooperstown Police Department announced that a deceased male was found Friday morning in the Susquehanna River, the deceased was identified as Matthew Sisson of Otego, who was missing for 7 days. Sisson left Bassett Hospital Friday January 26th, where he had been transferred from Fox Hospital in Oneonta with Appendix issues.

The Guthrie Clinic will take over operations at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton Thursday. The take over includes all of Lourdes facilities, including the new clinic at the Oakdale Commons, a new name for the facility will be announced Thursday.

The U.S. National Science Foundation has designated the New Energy New York Storage Engine as a Regional Innovation Engine, at Binghamton University. They will receive up to $15 million for 2 years and up to $160 million over 10 years to establish a hub that will accelerate the growth of the domestic battery industry.

Enrollment across the State University of New York campuses increased from year to year, for the first time in a decade. The Governor's Office reported that the year-to-year total system-wide student enrollment increased, 1.1% overall, 367,542 students. Undergraduate first-time enrollment was up across all sectors at 4.3% The technology sector showed the strongest increase at 13.3%, followed by community colleges at 3.9 percent.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded to an accident on the I-88 West / I-81 South overpass in the Town of Chenango yesterday morning involving 6 different vehicles. The investigation found that a pickup truck was traveling westbound on the I-88 overpass when the vehicle hit a patch of ice and flipped onto its hood. The 2nd vehicle behind the truck was able to stop before a collision could occur, but the next four vehicles all hit the ice, were unable to stop and collided with the vehicle two and each other. The accident led to the closure of I-88 westbound near Exit 2 for several hours for cleanup. 2 of the drivers were transported to Wilson and Lourdes hospital respectively for minor injuries. The ice was caused by a parked construction site water truck that was leaking water onto the highway. No charges have been filed at this time.

Oneonta Police Department Announced an update to their earlier investigation in the Spruce Street area on October 28th. Oneonta Officers were investigating a noise complaint, they heard what sounded like a shot from a firearm, they responded to the area with State Troopers & State University Police. The ongoing investigation revealed that there had been a conflict at a party with all involved ending up on Spruce Street, 1 male was said to have pulled something from his mid-section discharged it at close range at another male. No witnesses described seeing a handgun. Investigators do not believe that this was a functioning firearm, and that the suspect fled the area and is currently in New York City. 21 year old Patrick Dai of Pittsford, and Cornell University, was arrested Tuesday on a federal criminal complaint charging him with posting threats to kill or injure another using interstate communications. Dai is accused of posting messages to the Cornell section of an online discussion site, where he allegedly called for the deaths of Jewish people and a post threatening to shoot up 104 west, which is a Cornell University kosher dining hall located next to the Cornell Jewish Center. The charge filed against Dai carries a maximum term of 5 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years. Dai is being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility pending court action in a federal court in Syracuse.

Jones-McCombs is described as a white male, 5'11", 175 pounds, with brown hair & blue eyes & was last known to frequent the Mary Street area of the City of Binghamton. The Broome County Sheriff’s Office released the name of the victim killed in a fatal motor vehicle accident on Monday. 17 year old Makai Wilkinson of Harpursville was driving a pickup truck with 2 passengers on Welton Street in the Town of Colesville when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree. The two passengers were transported Wilson Hospital, one for minor injuries and the other for serious injuries, but Wilkinson was pronounced dead at the scene. This is an ongoing investigation.

30 year old Terrence Mewborn pleaded guilty to 1 count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon, in Delaware County Court. On July 2, 2022, Deputies responded to a motor vehicle accident with a rollover in the Town of Franklin, several of the passengers were injured and required hospitalization. Deputies found narcotics, drug paraphernalia, and a semi-automatic handgun, Mewborn was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, along with several other criminal charges, he entered a plea of guilty, he admitted the handgun was his, and that he did not have a pistol permit, it is anticipated that Mewborn will be sentenced to 2 to 4 years in state prison.

Binghamton University has identified the student who was found dead on campus Monday morning outside the library as Natalia Malcevic. Malcevic was a sophomore with junior status and was a Computer Science major from Niskayuna.

The Sidney Chamber of Commerce will hold their next regular meeting tomorrow morning. The meeting will begin at 8:00 AM at Club 55 on Union Street.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office patrols responded to a motor vehicle accident at about 4:40 Monday afternoon that claimed the life of a teenager in the Town of Colesville. The accident occurred on Welton Street between Still Road and Old Welton Street in the Town of Colesville. A preliminary investigation found that a pickup truck containing 3 teenage individuals left the roadway and collided with a tree. The 2 passengers were treated at UHS Binghamton General Hospital with minor injuries, the driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. This is an ongoing investigation, and more details will be released as the investigation concludes.

Binghamton University announced that they have canceled all of today’s classes due to an ongoing investigation. Officials issued an emergency message to students shortly before 9:00 This morning, as Campus Police were actively investigating an incident near the Bartle Library Tower. Officials issued a second alert canceling about a half an hour later canceling all classes. More information will be released later today.

Oneonta Police Department were investigating a noise complaint in the area of Spruce Street and Myrtle Avenue in the City of Oneonta, While investigating, officers heard what sounded like discharging a firearm. Officers were assisted by State Police, and State University Police, a search was conducted, they found no evidence of a firearms discharge. Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested a Binghamton man following a fight with staff and customers at a restaurant & with Deputies during and after his arrest Sunday. 25 year old Hamail Waddell of Binghamton was placed in the patrol car, he began kicking the car doors and repeatedly striking his head against the car window, he was transported to the Broome County Sheriff’s office for processing, he kicked a door handle off, he was transported to Wilson Hospital for evaluation, where he verbally abused patients & staff, he was sedated & treated and returned to Central Arraignment & was charged with Criminal Mischief, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Disorderly Conduct, & Harassment, he was still in custidy Sunday night.

Broome County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest of 2 people following a home invasion with shots fire Wednesday evening at Bradley Creek Road in the Town of Maine. Sheriff Akshar explained at a Press Conference this afternoon.:

Sheriff Akshar said that 2 people were arrested within 3 hours of the incident; 21 year old Jayvon Phillip & 31 year old Rozlyn Warthen of Binghamton were each charged with Attempted Murder, Attempted Burglary & Criminal Use of A Firearm, Phillip sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the incident and was being treated at a local hospital when he and Warthen were arrested. Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the ratification of a 4-year labor agreement with the United University Professions, which includes over 37,000 SUNY system faculty and professional employees. The agreement runs until July 1, 2026, it won the approval of 96.4% union members who cast ballots.

31-year-old Dylan Cole of Norwich was charged with 1st-degree assault after allegedly beating another man with a baseball bat, causing severe injuries. Norwich Police responded to Clinton Street, Cole allegedly approached a 35-year-old male with a BB gun and metal baseball bat and struck the man’s face multiple times with the bat, the victims suffered multiple fractures & lost teeth, he was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital & was later transported him to SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse to receive multiple surgeries. Cole was arraigned & was held on a $1,000 cash bail, pending court action at a later date.

Congressman Marc Molinaro will host a round-table on mental health and substance use disorders with local public officials, mental health and substance use providers, hospital administrators, law enforcement, and school administrators today. The round-table will begin at 3:00pm at the Broome County Public Library at 185 Court St in Binghamton.

Law Enforcement Agencies around the state are participating in "Operation Safe Stop Day" today, where police officers are checking to see if motorists are stopping for school busses with their flashing lights on, picking up or dropping off students. It is estimated that 50-thousand New Yorkers illegally pass stopped school buses each day that school is in session. Penalties for a first-time offense include a fine of up to 400 dollars, five points on a person's drivers license and possibly 30 days in jail.

The family of Jorge Jimenez, who was fatally struck by a vehicle driven by former Syracuse University basketball coach Jim Boeheim in February 2019, has agreed to settle a lawsuit against Boeheim. Terms of the settlement will remain sealed, Jimenez was a passenger in a car that that skidded on Interstate 690 and hit a guardrail. Boeheim was driving home after a game when he swerved to avoid the car and hit Jimenez, who was later pronounced dead at a hospital. Boeheim was not charged by police investigating the crash.

AK Strong T-shirts are being made available locally, to assist with the medical expenses for the McEwan-Lomnicki as their daughter Anielle, also known as "AK", remains at a Syracuse Hospital with injuries sustained when she was hit by a car while walking home from school last week. Governor Hochul discussed $1.4 billion in School Aid for the Southern Tier, Over $151 million in DOT capital projects, $50 million for Binghamton University to continue establishing a hub for battery technology innovation, Over $23 million for local paving and pothole repairs, $963,000 for Broome Community College, $16 million for addiction services funding, the 227 Billion Dollar Budget proposal is being negotiated & is due on April 1st.

The New York State Department of Health today issued the results of its latest annual chronic disease public opinion survey. According to the survey, 88% think heroin use is a serious public health problem, 90% site the use or misuse of prescription opioids, 92% said childhood obesity, 85% think tobacco use continues to be a major problem, 80% reported issues with health care access, 77% said alcohol consumption & 46% think marijuana are other serious health problems.

The Village of Sidney Police Department responded yesterday afternoon at about 2:50 PM, to the report of a unconscious female lying in the middle of Sunset Avenue. Police were advised that the female had been struck by a vehicle, 14 year old Anielle McEwan-Lomnicki was transported to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City & was transferred to SUNY Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse where she remains in stable but critical condition with bleeding & pressure on the brain, an upper spine fracture & fractured ribs according to family, The driver, 31 year old Courtni Baker of Sidney left the scene and returned a short time later, she was charged with Aggravated DWI, with a BAC of .18 or higher, plus DWI, Leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, Reckless Driving, Vehicular Assault & Escape for allegedly attempting to leave the Police Station, along with several other lesser charges. Baker was arraigned in the Town of Delhi court where she was remanded to the Delaware County Jail without bail. The investigation is ongoing which could result in more charges being filed.

The Tioga County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that 3 people died and another was hospitalized after they were hit by a car in Newark Valley Wednesday afternoon. According to the Sheriff’s Office, an 18-year-old man was driving south on State Route 38 around 11:20 am Wednesday and hit 4 pedestrians walking on the shoulder. 66 year old John Stephens, 25 year old Kurtis Acker & 52 year old Doreen Wood were killed, a 27-year-old woman was flown to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse in critical condition. All 4 pedestrians were from Newark Valley.

It was a Basketball Homecoming for Hancock resident Laycee Drake at Binghamton University, Drake plays for The University of Maryland Baltimore County Retrievers, they took on the Lady Bearcats in Binghamton last night, WCDO Sports Director Nate Lull said that drake received tremendous local support last night:

Drake graduated from Hancock on 2021 and finished her High School Career with over 1800 points, she scored 11 point last night, but Binghamton won the game 80-70.

Several area Fire Departments responded to a structure fire at 440 St. John Road in Afton early this morning. The fire was mainly confined to the 1st floor, there was smoke & heat damage to parts of the 2nd floor, 1 unconscious occupant was removed & was taken to Wilson Hospital. Firefighters from Afton, Harpursville, Greene, Bainbridge & Coventry Responded, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Governor Hochul unveiled a $227 Billion Dollar Executive Budget proposal yesterday in Albany. The Budget contains a $1 Billion Plan to Fix New York State's Mental Health Care, a pledge Not To Raise Income Taxes, the New York Housing Compact Will Build 800,000 New Homes, to Address Statewide Housing Shortage, a $337 Million Investment Aimed at Reducing Gun Violence, $5.5 Billion to Promote sustainable Energy, more information is available at budget.ny.gov.

SUNY Oneonta officials announced that they will become a "University" next year. The University designation will become official on January 23rd, and they will be known as "State University of New York at Oneonta" they were previously called the "State University of New York College at Oneonta. A celebration is scheduled for January 25th, the 1st day of the Spring Semester.

State Police are warning residents of a phone scam, where someone will call claiming to represent the State Police and ask for donations. State Police said that they do not seek donations from the public, and is you receive such a call, do not give any personal information, and simply hang up.

State Police arrested 22 year old Brian Christman of Fort Plain, for Vehicular Manslaughter and Driving While Intoxicated. Back on July 23rd, State Police responded to a fatal one-vehicle crash on Shacktown Mountain Road in the town of Pittsfield. The passenger of the vehicle 22 year old Payton Stirone of Mount Vision was pronounced deceased at the scene, Christman was driving at the time of the crash & was transported to Basset Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
