State Attorney General Letitia James led a multi state coalition of 23 attorneys general urging the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold the government's ability to work and communicate with social media companies to address the spread of dangerous content on their platforms. The coalition filed an amicus brief, urging the Supreme Court to reverse a recent decision of the U.S. Court of Appeals that prevents the important exchange of information between the federal government and social media companies about harmful content on their platforms. Other states participating include California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, & Vermont.

The State Labor Department released their latest unemployment statistics for the month of November. The statewide unemployment rate went up .1% to 4.3 % in November, Chenango County had 3.5% unemployment, Delaware County 3.9% & Otsego County had 3.7% in November.
An American Red Cross Blood Drive is being held today at the Afton Methodist Church from 3:00 - 7:00 pm, another blood drive is being held at the Elm Park Methodist Church on Chestnut Street in Oneonta, from 12:00 to 6:00 PM. The State Police are continuing the special enforcement initiative to crack down on impaired and reckless driving this holiday season. The enforcement campaign is part of the national “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative and runs from Wednesday, December 13, 2023, through Monday, January 1, 2024. Drivers can expect to see sobriety checkpoints, Troopers will be watching for distracted drivers, vehicle occupants who are not properly buckled up, and drivers violating the “Move Over Law,” State Police will also conduct underage drinker enforcement details statewide. During last year’s crackdown, State Police arrested 453 people for DWI and issued 32,934 tickets, including 11,305 tickets for speeding, 912 for distracted driving, and 316 for the “Move Over Law.”

Bassett Healthcare Network and Helios Care are collaborating to provide hospice and palliative care to patients in Central New York. The State Department of Health has given approval for Helios Care to expand their services to include Herkimer and Chenango Counties to better serve within the Bassett Healthcare Network. Currently, Helios Care serves Otsego, Delaware, and Schoharie Counties.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office Patrols, State DOT and volunteer firefighters responded to a tractor trailer fire on I-81 southbound between Exit 7 & Exit 6 in the Town of Chenango early Thursday morning, traffic was diverted to 1 lane for the clean up & investigation, the trailer contained frozen food, no tickets were announced & no injuries were reported.

Craig Ross Jr. has been charged kidnapping, 4 counts of predatory sexual assault against a child, plus sexual abuse, assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Ross was arrested after he allegedly abducted 9 year old Charlotte Sena Spetember 30th at Moreau Lake State Park in Saratoga County. Ross was indicted on the charges Friday, he was initially charged with 1st degree kidnapping when he was arrested days after the girl was riding her bike & went missing during a day at the park with family. Ross was found in a camper where he was staying, police found Sena in a cabinet, Ross is accused of raping the girl over the 2 day period. Ross pleaded not guilty in Saratoga County Court Friday, he is beign held in jail without bail since his arrest.

State Police & The FBI arrested 43 year old Michael Hilliard of Horseheads November 11th, following an investigation into hazardous materials used for making bombs was found Hilliard's residence. On November 6th, a local Highway Department employee found a possible explosive, the State Police Bomb Disposal Unit and FBI responded and made the explosive safe. On November 11th Hilliard was apprehended and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the First Degree (B Felony). He was arraigned and remanded to the Chemung County Jail. On November 12th, State Police executed a search warrant at Hilliard’s residence, they located several suspicious hazardous materials inside the residence & the immediate surrounding the residence was evacuated. State Police are working in conjunction with the FBI for the disposal of all hazards. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the New York State Police at 585-398-4100.
State Police are requesting the public’s assistance in locating a 2019 or newer white Volvo semi-truck with damage to the front passenger side. Police said that 40 year old John Viviano of Sidney was pronounced dead at the scene, State Police at Troop E investigated the fatal car-pedestrian crash that occurred on I-86 near exit 38 in the village of Bath, Police beleive that a westbound vehicle on I-86 struck Viviano between Friday night & Saturday Morning, The vehicle did not stop, and State Police is requesting the public’s assistance to identify the vehicle, which may have significant front-end damage. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force arrested 3 people last Wednesday in a major drug bust in Binghamton. arrested were 39-year-old Rayshawn Thompson, 38-year-old Derrick Brooks and 39-year-old Brandy Myers were charged with multiple felonies after the Task Force officers executed a search warrant at 24 Robinson Street. Officer seized a loaded handgun, fentanyl, Methamphetamine, cocaine, Suboxone Strips & $4,500 in suspected drug proceeds, packaging materials, all 3 were transported to the Binghamton Police Department, and were processed & were being held on various felony weapon & drug charges.
State Police arrested 63 year old David Brown of Candor for 100 counts of Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation out of SP Owego with the assistance from the Troop C Computer Crimes Unit, conducted an Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) investigation and determined that Brown was in possession of numerous videos depicting child pornography. Brown is scheduled to appear in the Candor Town Court on December 4th.
State Police arrested 31 year old Kevin Carter Jr. of Binghamton, for 3rd degree Robbery and Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Troopers were dispatched to a reported robbery at Speedway in the town of Union. Troopers located Carter who was found to be in possession of metal knuckles. The investigation determined that Carter made a small purchase but when the register was open, he reached over the counter and forcefully took a sum of money, however, he left his wallet with his ID on the counter during the incident. Carter was transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced that the proposed 2024 County Budget was passed by the County Legislature during a meeting Thursday, The budget calls for a reduction in property taxes, money for paving projects & renovations at Binghamton Airport, Grippen Park.
State Police at Norwich are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the person pictured in a surveillance video. On October 31, shortly after 11:00 A.M., Troopers were dispatched by Chenango County 911 to a report of a person a number of stealing items from the Norwich Walmart & then hiding behind a dumpster to elude employees. The suspect was wearing camouflage, black shoes, a black backpack and a black baseball cap. The suspect appears to have bright red hair and with facial hair. Cetta currently serves as the Walton Town Supervisor and is a firefighter with the Walton Fire Department. Cetta’s military career spanned nearly four decades.

Deputies assisted the Cooperstown Police Department in locating Stein who was wanted for Criminal Contempt, he was located Tuesday & was turned over to the Cooperstown Police Department to be arraigned at Otsego County Centralized Arraignment Court in Otsego County on the charges.

Governor Hochul announced $5 million is available to support animal shelters and humane societies in making infrastructure upgrades. The program is administered by the Department of Agriculture and Markets, it provides matching grants to shelters and humane societies to offset the costs associated with capital projects. The State Department of Transportation will host a public information meeting at 5:30 pm. Tuesday, November 14, at the Oneonta High School, pertaining to a project to reconstruct the intersection of Maple Street & State Route 7 in the City of Oneonta. The project would replace an existing signalized intersection with a single-lane roundabout, plus new sidewalks, crosswalks and a multi-use path for bicyclists and pedestrians. A formal presentation by DOT staff will be followed by a question-and-answer and public comment period.

The Indictment accuses Baker of possessing approximately $6,000.00 in fentanyl and methamphetamine with the intent to sell in the Village of Sidney on September 11th. Baker pleaded not guilty to the indictment & he was released from custody & was placed under the supervision of the Delaware County Probation Department, he could face up to 9 years in state prison if convicted on the top count.

State Police at Norwich arrested 37 year old Michael Salamey of Frankfort, in connection with a renovation at home in Chenango County. Salamey was charged with 2 counts of 3rd degree Grand Larceny, Scheming to Defraud & Petty Larceny. Salamey is accused of entering into a contract for $33,000 to complete improvements to a home in the village of Sherburne, he did not finish the work and also stopped communicating with the homeowners. Additionally, Salamey is accused of failing to pay a surveyor & Sub Contractor, he was arraigned in the Norwich City Court and is scheduled to appear at the Sherburne Village Court on November 16, 2023.

State Police Investigators continue to search for Brandon Williams who was last seen on March 11, 2019. At the time that Brandon went missing, he was 32 years old, weighing about 220 pounds and 6’2” in height. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, gray jeans, black Converse sneakers, a New England Patriots winter hat and a tan Carhart jacket with black writing on it. An investigation by Troopers at the scene determined that 25 year old La-Tee Baker of Oneonta, 21 year old Bryanna Patterson of Oneonta, and 23 year old Bethany Brown of Delhi, were involved in a fight, both women sustained injuries, Brown was transported to A.O. Fox Hospital. Baker and Patterson were located by Troopers walking along State Highway 23 and were arrested. They were issued appearance tickets to the Oneonta Town Court on November 21, 2023. After release from the hospital, Brown was charged with Assault, she was issued appearance tickets to the Oneonta Town Court on December 5.

An investigation by Troopers at the scene determined that 25 year old La-Tee Baker of Oneonta, 21 year old Bryanna Patterson of Oneonta, and 23 year old Bethany Brown of Delhi, were involved in a fight, both women sustained injuries, Brown was transported to A.O. Fox Hospital. Baker and Patterson were located by Troopers walking along State Highway 23 and were arrested. They were issued appearance tickets to the Oneonta Town Court on November 21, 2023. After release from the hospital, Brown was charged with Assault, she was issued appearance tickets to the Oneonta Town Court on December 5.
45 year old Kellie Sanderson of Walton, appeared in Delaware County Court and was arraigned on a sealed indictment. The 5-count indictment charged Sanderson with 3 counts of Offering a False Instrument for Filing, Welfare Fraud & Grand Larceny, for submitting false applications to the Delaware County Department of Social Services on 3 separate occasions reporting incorrect household income to obtain public assistance benefits that she was not entitled to in an amount greater than $3,000. Sanderson pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released, the case is scheduled for a conference on November 13th.

26 year old Simon Wysong of Delhi was indicted Thursday in Delaware County Court, he is accused of Driving While Impaired by Amphetamines, Methamphetamines, and Fentanyl in the Town of Davenport on July 26, 2022. Wysong was driving at a high rate of speed on County Highway 10 when he failed to stop at a stop sign, crossed onto State Highway 23 & collided with another vehicle. Wysong's passenger was killed, the driver of the other vehicle suffered serious physical injuries. The Grand Jury indicted Wysong for Vehicular Manslaughter, Assault, 2nd degree Manslaughter & Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, he faces up to 8 1/3rd to 25 years in state prison if he is convicted of the most serious charge. Wysong will be arraigned on the indictment in Delaware County Court on October 23rd.

State Police reported that 16 year old Emily Clapper was located in good health in the city of Oneonta by Oneonta Police. Clapper was reported missing on October 2nd.

State Police have arrested 39 year old Kysha Radcliff of Dryden, for 1st degree Kidnapping, in connection with the kidnapping & murder case of Thomas Rath of Ithaca. Rath disappeared from a homeless encampment earlier this year, he remains were found last month & so far the investigation has resulted in 11 arrests. State Police said that the investigation continues.
State Police responded to a reported stabbing on a Trailways Transportation Bus, traveling from New York City to Binghamton. The bus was on State Highway 17 in the town of Deposit when the incident was reported and indicated that a female had been stabbed numerous times. State Police said that 32 year old Dominique Holloman of New York City fled when the bus stopped, he was located & was charged with 2nd degree Assault he was transported to the Delaware County Jail for Centralized Arraignment. The injured female had been traveling with Holloman, she was treated at Wilson Hospital for a non-life threatening injury.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Office arrested 43-year-old Dennis Ryder of Branford, Connecticut for driving with a suspended New York State Driver’s license. On Friday afternoon, Deputies observed a vehicle speeding on State Highway 97 in the Village of Hancock, they conducted a traffic stop, a check of Ryder’s driver’s license revealed that his driving privileges were suspended. Ryder was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle & Speeding, among other charges, Ryder will appear in the Village of Hancock Court at a later date to answer the charges.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office responded on Thursday at approximately 7:00 pm, 26 year old Cody Beavers of Windsor was operating his motorcycle at a high rate of speed and failed to keep right around a curve, he struck a pickup truck traveling in the opposite direction. Beavers and his passenger, 23 year old Megan Monteforte of Hallstead, Pennsylvania were ejected from the motorcycle, both were wearing helmets but sustained serious injuries & were taken to UHS Wilson Medical Hospital & were later transferred to a Syracuse Hospital by Life Net. Beavers was found to have been driving an unregistered and uninsured motorcycle without a license and was issued multiple Uniform Traffic Tickets.

Oneonta Police Department responded Thursday to the report of several loud popping sounds at the Town House Inn at 318 Main Street. Officers discovered that a firearm had been discharged in the parking lot, no firearms were found at the scene. The Investigation indicates that no individuals were injured and unoccupied vehicles had been struck by the projectiles. The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the Oneonta Police Department at (607) 432-1111.
Authorities recovered the body of 61 year old Dr. Chandra Prakash Joshi in Middlefield along the Natty Bumppo’s Cave trail, Investigators beleive that Dr. Joshi fell 3 days prior off of a cliff area and died from his injuries, he was a senior physicist at Bassett Cancer Institute. The sheriff’s office dispatched patrols in cooperation with Cooperstown Village Police and state Department of Environmental Conservation forest rangers, after a co-workers reported that the Doctor had failed to show up for work, and has planned to go hiking, his car had been in the parking lot, the cause of death was accidental.

49 year old Richard Foster of Middletown appeared in Delaware County Court & entered a guilty plea to Attempted Assault, Foster was originally charged with a series of crimes stemming from a domestic assault that took place on March 14th. Foster was observed obstructing traffic on State Highway 28, Officers apprehended him after he struck a woman multiple times and attempted to steal prescription pills. Foster was sentenced to one year in jail, an Order of Protection was issued for the victim for a period of 2 years.
FEMA Officials announced that the Oxford Fire Department will receive over $95,000 in the latest round of firefighter safety grants. The Grant will allow the Oxford Fire Department to increase training, purchase equipment and protective gear & increase recruitment efforts.

Congressman Marc Molinaro announced today that the USDA will release federal resources for an agricultural disaster designation for all 11 counties in Molinaro's 19th District and 20 other counties in New York, in response to freeze and frost last May, which caused significant damage and losses to crops. The disaster designation allows farm operators to be eligible for Farm Service Agency (FSA) emergency loans. Farmers in eligible counties have 8 months from the date of the disaster declaration to apply for emergency loans. Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 27 year old Chase Northrop of Morris as a Fugitive From Justice out of the state of Texas. The Investigation revealed that Northrop violated the terms of his probation which led to a warrant for his arrest, Northrop turned himself in to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office today where he was taken in to custody, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Otsego County Correctional Facility to await extradition to Texas.

Delaware County Sheriff's deputies arrested 34 year old Travis Loucks of Hobart on Friday, after a Deputy observed a vehicle traveling at 75 mph on State Route 10 in Delhi. in a posted 55 mph zone. Loucks' Drivers License & vehicle registration was suspended, he was ticketed for Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended/Revoked Registration, Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, speeding & several other charges, Loucks was released & is scheduled to appear in the Town of Delhi Court at a later date.
Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that 36 year old Robert Simpson of Binghamton was sentenced to 9 years in State prison after pleading guilty to 1st degree Robbery. Simpson forcibly stole property from another person while brandishing a knife on August 14th 2022 in Binghamton, he was identified hours later through video surveillance of the area of the crime. Simpson will also serve 5 years of post release supervision.

Train Traffic Along the Mohawk River Corridor has come to a halt today, following a freight train derailment in the town of Amsterdam. State Route 5 has been closed down as well to allow for easy access by emergency personnel. the clean up is ongoing & they hope to have train travel running again as soon as possible.
Norwich Police Department arrested 42 year old Jaswinder Singh of Norwich for allegedly selling tobacco products to underage minors at his A&R Smoke Shop on North Broad Street. Singh was charged with unlawful dealing with a child. 42 year old Harminder Singh of Norwich was also charged , they face court action at a later date.
37 year old Michael Salamey of Frankfort appeared in Delaware County Court Wednesday & a 2 Count Indictment was unsealed Salamey was charged with Grand Larceny for allegedly stealing over $360,000, by entering into a contract to improve property in the Town of Roxbury. The Indictment said that the owner of the property paid Salamey the money to install a septic system, underground electric utilities, foundations, and small homes & that the work was not performed & her stopped communicating with the property owner. Salamey was released & a conference is scheduled in Delaware County Court on August 21st.

State Police arrested 36 year old Joseph VanLeuvan of Shandaken, for Grand Larceny and 16 counts of the Forgery, after Mountain Ridge Excavation and Construction reported that several checks were written out to VanLeuvan that they had not issued. VanLeuvan allegedly issued 16 checks to himself without authorization, totaling $15,000. VanLeauvan was already incarcerated in the Delaware County Jail for another matter, he was processed and was returned to the Delaware County Jail.

Spiedie Fest had decided to move the meet and greet with WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle and concert featuring John Waite and Tommy DeCarlo to the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena. State Police reported that 2 pedestrians that were struck by a vehicle in the town of Middletown Wednesday. State Police stated that 68 year old John Guidice & 67 year old Joyce Guidice, both of Middletown, were struck by a vehicle while on the shoulder of New Kingston Road, the vehicle did not stop, Numerous lifesaving measures were performed & Joyce was pronounced dead at the scene, John was taken to Margaretville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A vehicle with front end damage was located & a 70 year old man from Staten Island was being interviewed by Investigators. The investigation is on-going. More will be released once it is available.
Attorney General Letitia James and DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos today announced a settlement with FrieslandCampina Ingredients North America, Inc. in Delhi over numerous violations of state and federal environmental laws. The Delhi manufacturing facility was emitting dangerous air and water pollution into the surrounding community, putting public health at risk. The agreement with Federal & State Agencies requires Friesland to come into full compliance with environmental protection laws and pay a penalty of $2.88 million. New York will receive $1.44 million to fund projects that benefit public health and the environment in the Delhi area.
4 people have been arrested after the discovery of multiple illegal items in Binghamton. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force, along with the Binghamton Police Department Community Response Team and Patrol Division executed a search warrant Tuesday at 35 Baxter Street, Officers seized weapons, $3,540 in suspected drug proceeds, Oxycontin and items used for packaging and weighing narcotics. Arrested were 47 year old Jaime Marte-Viera, 27 year old Juan Genao, 20 year old Sincere Pryor and 32 year old Tyron Howell on a variety of Drug & Weapons Charges, all face court action shortly.
The State Comptroller's Office reported that local government sales tax collections in New York state totaled $5.7 billion in the 2nd quarter of 2023, an increase of 3%, compared to the same period last year. 2nd quarter growth was lower that the 1st quarter, due to a steep drop in gas prices, sales tax collections on motor fuels decreasing by -19% year over year.

Cooperstown Cheese Company based in Milford, New York announced a recall of over 1400 pounds of cheese, The recalled cheese was purchased, sold or distributed from June 21st to July 10th, They were distributed in New York State through farmers markets, restaurants and retail stores. All recalled products are labeled with Cooperstown Cheese Company labels which contain the company contact information. The FDA reported that the products were recalled due to a potential to be contaminated with Listeria.

State DEC Officers have charged an unidentified man in Roxbury for illegally shooting a bear at the Stratton Falls Campground in the town of Roxbury July 10th. DEC Officers found the dead bear hidden under a swimming pool in a backyard on the property, the man admitted to shooting the bear as it was walking by his home. The unidentified man was charged with shooting and killing a bear illegally, killing a bear out of season, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, the tickets are returnable to the Town of Roxbury Court.

State Department of Transportation is advising motorists that traffic along a portion of State Route 80, approximately four miles north of the Village of Cooperstown will be reduced to one lane with alternating traffic controlled by temporary signals until further notice. The road sustained heavy damage from last weekend's storms. Crews hope to have the situation repaired before this weekend's influx of travelers to Cooperstown for the Hall of Fame Induction weekend.

State Police are investigating a report of a credit card skimmer found at the Norwich Walmart on July 8th. Troopers responded after a skimmer was located and removed from 1 of the registers, employees checked the registers after seeing news reports of skimmers at different Walmart locations throughout the State. An investigation revealed that 3 individuals installed a skimmer on register number 3 on July 3 at approximately 11:40am. The suspects were 2 white males & a white female, 2 of the suspects distracted the cashier while 1 of the men installed the skimmer. Anyone who shopped at the Norwich Walmart between July 3rd & the 8th, should check their credit statements for any fraudulent charges.
State Police arrested 29 year old Reinaldo Perez-Granado of Glendale, for Unlawful Surveillance, the investigation revealed that while at Chenango Valley State Park, Perez Granado entered a bathroom, reached over the stall and took photos of the child while a child was changing, the child alerted their parent and provide a detailed description of the man, the parent alerted a lifeguard, Park Rangers then State Police. Perez Granado was arrested and was processed, he was transported to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing. Governor Hochul, & State Leaders today announced New York State's "ConnectALL" Office has been allocated more than $664 million in funding from the federal Broadband Equity Access and Deployment Program. The allocation will be used primarily for providing fiber optic infrastructure to locations in New York that currently have no broadband service.
About 2 dozen people have been stricken statewide with a food parasite illness recently, according to the Centers for Disease Control. The outbreak is from a parasite called Cyclospora that has recently sickened people across 22 states, with 30 hospitalized. Cyclospora usually spreads through Produce that has been contaminated with feces, symptoms include diarrhea, stomach cramps, bloating, nausea and fatigue. The CDC traced an outbreak in Georgia and Alabama to a tainted batch of broccoli, but the latest cases could be from different sources in the other states reporting cases of the sickness.

Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 48 year old Paul Thayer of Cooperstown was arraigned on a sealed indictment in Delaware County Court. Count One of the Indictment alleges that the he attempted to endanger the welfare of a child. Count Two accuses him of Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to Minors, for allegedly engaging in a sexually explicit conversation with a person that he believed to be a 14-year-old child, with the intention of enticing the child to engage in sexual conduct with him, he traveled to the Village of Walton to meet with that child, but instead was confronted by the adult that had been posing as a 14-year-old child. Walton Police Department conducted a police investigation which resulted in this indictment. Thayer pleaded not guilty and was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail pending a conference on June 26th.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a 1 car motor vehicle accident with injuries on State Highway 10 in the Town of Walton. Deputies observed a vehicle had left the roadway, struck a culvert pipe, causing the vehicle to rollover, then coming to rest in a private driveway. Deputies made contact with the driver, 41-year-old Amy Kille of Walton. Deputies charged Amy Kille with DWI, Aggravated DWI with a BAC greater than 0.18%, among other charges, Kille was released on tickets returnable to the Town of Walton Court at a later date

On Thursday, June 29, at 9:00AM, the Greater Oneonta Historical Society and the Oneonta Job Corps Academy will unveil a historical marker for Homer Folks Tuberculosis Hospital at the corner of West Street and Homer Folks Drive. Navas was previously sentenced to a 5-year term of probation for his 2022 Conviction of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, he is accused of committing a Burglary in Roxbury while serving the sentence, he appeared in Delaware County Court last week and admitted to violating probation, he was sentenced & was remanded to the custody of the Delaware County Correctional Facility pending his transfer to state custody.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies initiated a traffic stop Wednesday on State Highway 10 in the Town of Hamden after observing a vehicle driving erratically, and passing multiple vehicles on the roadway. Deputies identified the driver as 26-year-old, Kyle Buckley, of Walton, Buckley’s driver’s license had been suspended for failure to answer a summons on 3 separate dates. Buckley was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operator & improper passing, he was released on the traffic tickets and is directed to appear in the Town of Hamden Court at a later date to answer the said charges.

The agreement with PEF is for a three-year term running until April 1, 2026 for more than 51,000 New York State employees in a in a wide variety of professional, scientific and technical titles. The agreement with UUP is for a four-year term running until July 1, 2026 for more than 37,000 SUNY system faculty and professional employees. Both agreements are subject to ratification by union membership.

32 year old Antonio Escobar-Boria of Sidney pleaded guilty in Delaware County Court to Attempted Reckless Endangerment, he is accused of allowing a 2-year-old child to be near illegal drugs at 62 East Main Street in Sidney. After State Police executed a search warrant and discovered the illegal drugs, they directed that the 2-year-old child be brought to the hospital, the 2-year-old child tested positive for fentanyl but did not need medical treatment, Escobar-Boria is expected to be sentenced to a 5-year term of felony probation supervision with a special condition that he successfully complete the Delaware County Adult Treatment Court Program, sentencing is scheduled for July 31st.

Construction began today on the Buffalo Bills' new, state-of-the-art $1.54 billion stadium in Orchard Park. 37 new firefighters from the State's Recruit Firefighter Training program at the Academy of Fire Science in Montour Falls. Graduates come from 17 fire departments across the state, representing the Academy's 87th Recruit Firefighter Training class. The Department of State reminds businesses of a new law to protect consumers from potential Gift Card Scams. Effective June 20th, all businesses selling gift cards must display a notice at or near where any gift card or gift certificate is displayed or sold to caution consumers about gift card fraud. Requesting gift cards as payment has become increasingly popular with scammers as funds are nearly impossible to trace. According to the Federal Trade Commission in 2022, nearly 65,000 consumers filed a complaint related to gift card scams, equating to a total loss of $228.3 million.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a reported 2 car motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Thompson Hollow Road and Jensen Road in the Town of Middletown Monday. Initial reports stated that 1 vehicle was on fire and the 2nd vehicle contained an entrapped person within. 2 good Samaritans heard the collision and went to the scene, they were able to extinguish the fire and provide first aid to both drivers until the arrival of first responders. 41 year old John Todd of Roxbury, was pronounced deceased at the scene, 65 year old Daniel Plummer of East Branch was extricated, he was airlifted to Albany Medical Center by Life Net and is currently in critical condition. The Sheriff’s Accident Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene to investigate the cause of the accident,
The Norwich City Police Department is seeking help in identifying an individual who committed a gunpoint Robbery of Holt’s Hemp Emporium at 20 South Broad Street in Norwich this afternoon at approximately 1:10 pm. The suspect is described as a black male, 6’01, wearing light tan camouflage pants, a blue hoodie, and a black helmet with a black backpack, he displayed a handgun and left with stolen cash, he was last seen driving a red and white Yamaha racing motorcycle and on State Route 12, anyone with information is asked to contact Norwich City Police at 607-334-2424.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 22 year old Houston Alexander of Binghamton following a high speed pursuit Thursday night. A Deputy was conducting a routine speed enforcement on I-81 in the Town of Dickinson when he encountered a vehicle traveling at 90 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone, after pursuits through several towns, Alexander's vehicle collided with a patrol vehicle, he fled on foot, which ended a few block later in Johnson City with a Taser deployment, and he was taken into custody. Alexander was charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Reckless Endangerment, Obstructing Government Administration & Resisting Arrest, Alexander was processed and issued appearance tickets for a future court date, The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Johnson City Police and State Police. There were no injuries stemming from the incident.

Oneonta Fire Department last night responded to a fire at 7 Hubbell Avenue in Oneonta, they were assisted by West Oneonta, & Otego Fire Department As well as the FAST teams from Sidney, Franklin & Worcester. There were no injuries reported, but several pets died in the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office learned that a least 2 local hotels in Vestal were contacted by a New York City officials 2 days before the executive order, to try to house migrants then in New York City, to Broome County, both hotels declined. Sheriff Fred Akshar stated that they began their investigation prior to the state of emergency declaration & Deputies are continuing to monitor the situation and have been ordered to turn away any vehicles involved in exporting the migrants.

A New Sienna Institute Poll today showed that for the 1st time, Governor Hochul 45% of those polled viewed her unfavorably, while 40% viewed her favorably. Her Job Approval rating dropped 6% to 44%, however a strong majority think that Hochul is a hard worker at a 58 to 20% rating. The poll shows that 38% think the new state budget will be good, while 26% said that it won't.

Delhi Village Police, assisted by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the State Police Computer Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at 2 residences in the Town of Walton, where a quantity of electronic devices was seized by the police. Officers arrested former Waton Town Supervisor Joseph Hanley on a Sealed Indictment Warrant issued by the Delaware County Supreme Court, he was charged by Grand Jury indictment with Attempted Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to a Minor. Hanley was remanded to the Delaware County Jail pending arraignment before the Delaware County Supreme Court.
