State Police are looking to identify an individual described as a white female with shoulder length blond hair, driving a white 4 door late model sedan. The suspect is accused of going through a vehicle while it was parked at Animal Adventure Park near Colesville on October 16 and taking money, credit cards and checks. The suspect's picture was obtained when she attempted to cash a check using the victim’s identification at the NBT Bank in Syracuse. The State Department of Taxation and Finance announced more than 62,000 payments worth more than $46.6 million have been made through its convenient Quick Pay application since the beginning of 2018. The free service provides individuals a way to promptly pay a tax bill or debt owed from an audit or collection case, or as part of an installment payment agreement. The State DEC is continuing with their investigation into the shooting deaths of 8 deer & the injury of a 9th one, in Otsego County last week in the town of Milford. So far, no arrests have been made.

The Bainbridge Glow Gun Held at General Clinton Park raised over $5400 for Bainbridge native Bob Jinks. Money was raised at the event, plus through a local Bottle & can Drive, the amount raised was 270% above the initial goal, according to organizer Heather Bucalos of Sidney.

State Police Superintendent George Beach announced the line of duty death of Trooper Jeremy VanNostrand this morning. Trooper VanNostrand was reporting to work at the State Police barracks in Fonda when he was involved in a motor vehicle crash at about 7:45 AM. The investigation revealed that Trooper VanNostrand was stopped in traffic in his personal vehicle, waiting to turn into the station, when he was rear-ended and pushed into oncoming traffic; he was transported to Albany Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. Trooper VanNostrand served with the State Police for 6 years, he is survived by his wife & daughter, and funeral arrangements will be announced shortly.

The Otsego County Health Department announced that a skunk has tested positive for rabies in Burlington Flats. 1 unvaccinated dog was exposed to the rabid skunk & will be euthanized, the next Otsego County Rabies clinic will be December 5th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Susquehanna Animal Shelter.

Attorney General Barbara Underwood released the annual "Pennies for Charity: Where Your Money Goes; Fundraising by Professional Fundraisers" report, which found that nearly 1/3rd of charitable donations ended up in the pockets of professional fundraisers. In 2017, more than $1.18 billion was raised in New York State through 964 fundraising campaigns conducted by professional fundraisers on behalf of charities. Governor Cuomo today announced six projects are being funded under the Empire State Poverty Reduction Initiative in Oneonta. The six programs include Communication Across Barriers, Opportunities for Otsego, CDO Workforce, the Oneonta School District, Family Planning of South Central New York, & the Otsego County Drug Court. The money is part of a broader $25 million effort to target pockets of poverty around the state.

State Police arrested 2 people after a traffic stop on I-88 in Worcester. A trooper observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and initiated a traffic stop. After an investigation both the operator and passenger were arrested after drugs and paraphernalia were found in the vehicle. 30 year old Zachary Lushkevich of Laurens was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, 26 year old Katarina Lushkevich of Laurens was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, they were released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Worcester Court on October 30th.

Tajiri the giraffe, who was born at Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville, will not be going to be heading to a new wildlife facility in North Carolina. Animal Adventure officials announced on Saturday that "requirements and deadlines were not satisfied" on time for Tajiri's transfer, instead, they announced that Construction starts today on a new building to house Tajiri at Animal Adventure, the project is expected to be completed in 3 to 4 weeks.

Author Gray Basnight of Bethel New York has published his 3rd book, “Flight Of The Fox” a mystery thriller that takes place in Upstate New York, & is tied in to the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock Music & Arts festival in Bethel in 1969. Basnight told WCDO about his novel:

The Sidney Village Police department is investigating a 1 Vehicle Crash into the China Buffet Building at about 12:19 PM this afternoon. Police reported that a Chrysler PT Cruiser was traveling westbound in the McDonald's Parking Lot, when the unidentified Driver drove up the embankment & went into the exterior wall of the Restaurant, causing a hole in the wall. The accident is still under investigation.

State Police arrested 29 year old Kody Weidman of New Berlin for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Failure to Use an Interlock Device. Troopers observed Weidman commit a traffic violation while at State Route 20 and State Route 8, he attempted to elude troopers by turning into a driveway and turning off his headlights, troopers uncovered several grams of cocaine. Weidman was arrested and released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Bridgewater Court on November 5th.

State Police arrested 38 year old David Miller of Pitcher for 4 counts of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. Troopers were advised on September 2, 2018 that Miller was in possession of several stolen road signs. Miller was arrested & was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the town of Pitcher Court on November 6th.

State Police arrested 35 year old Michelle Page of Colesville for 3 counts of Menacing & 27 year old Matthew Meade of Windsor, NY arrested for Reckless Endangerment, Troopers were dispatched to a residence on Circle Drive in Colesville for a reported disturbance. After an investigation, it was determined that Page menaced Meade and other people with a shotgun after he drove to her residence and recklessly drove on her lawn, almost striking her vehicle. Page was arraigned in the town of Colesville Court and released on her own recognizance. Meade was arraigned in the town of Kirkwood and also released on his own recognizance.

State Attorney General Barbara Underwood announced that following her office’s investigation into rent-to-own Practices of the Manufactured Home Park industry, 8 have
agreed to major reforms of their practices. As part of the settlement, the owners must reimburse tenants for any down payments and other costs expended and allowing
tenants to rescind their Option to Purchase Agreement. Locally, JKLM Communities of Oneonta, who own the Valley Stream Trailer Park in Oneonta, has agreed to
discontinue rent-to-own practices found to be unlawful, the Attorney General’s office will continue to work with the New York Housing Association and its members to
reform practices for the benefit of manufactured home park tenants throughout the state.

New York State’s unemployment rate fell to 4.1% in September 2018, reaching its lowest level since June 1988, according to preliminary figures released by the State
Department of Labor. The biggest job gains were in the fields of Educational & Health Services; Leisure & Hospitality & Construction.

The State Office for the Aging reminds seniors that the Medicare open enrollment period is underway until December 7th. Medicare health and prescription drug plans
can make changes each year to costs, coverage, and what providers and pharmacies are in their networks. The open enrollment period is when all people with Medicare

The Oneonta Police Department announced that their 8th annual Food Drive is now underway. Donations may be dropped off at the Oneonta Police Department anytime
between until Friday, November 9th. Accepted Donations include non-perishable food items or toiletries. Proceeds will go to needy families in our community.

State Police at Deposit arrested 28 year old Rio Myers of Damascus for Driving While Intoxicated, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, & Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. A trooper on patrol was on the lookout for a vehicle operating erratically, a description was provided. The trooper was able to observe the vehicle in the town of Hancock unable to maintain a lane. A traffic stop was initiated and Myers was arrested, he was also found to be in possession of THC wax. He was released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Hancock Court on October 22.

State Police arrested 25 year old Eric Frank of Oxford for Assault & Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Menacing and Reckless Endangerment, Troopers were dispatched to a residence on County Road 32 in Oxford for a report of a dispute. A complainant told troopers that Frank pointed a shotgun at the complainant then fired it in the air. He’s also accused of punching the complainant in the face then with the stock of the gun. Frank allegedly then struck the mailbox with his vehicle. Frank was arraigned in the town of Oxford Court and remanded to the Chenango County Jail on $15,000 cash bail or $30,000 property bond.

State Police at Deposit are investigating a fatal industrial accident at the loading dock at the Courier Printing Corporation in Deposit. The deceased has been identified as 66 year old William Sethmann of Deposit, who was working as an independent contractor and handyman at Courier; he was located crushed underneath a hydraulic loading dock. The investigation revealed that Sethmann was working on the lift when it failed sometime between Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning. There are no signs of foul play.

Fire Fighters from Several Area Companies responded to the report of 2 trailers on fire at the Sidney Unadilla Trailer Park at 754 State Route 7, near the State Police Troop C Headquarters today. The fire was reported at around 1:00 PM, with occupants escaping the fire, fire fighters from Sidney, Wells Bridge, Sidney center, Bainbridge & Franklin responding. State Police arrested 37 year old Gary Sullivan Jr. of Hancock for DWI, after a trooper was dispatched to a 1 car accident on State Route 17 in Kirkwood. The trooper located Sullivan’s vehicle on its side and Sullivan had with minor injuries. Sullivan was arrested & was released on appearance tickets to town of Kirkwood Court on October 16th.

Chenango County Sheriff's Department investigated a robbery Tuesday Night on Royal Avenue in the Town of Norwich, after a male victim went to Chenango Memorial Hospital with missing teeth, head lacerations and additional trauma. The investigation revealed that the victim was lured to the Royal Avenue address by 19 year old Jade Orlando, who requested marihuana to be delivered to her, Brenden Gager, Hunter Speenburgh and Landon Cummings were hiding nearby, they allegedly assaulted and robbed the victim. All 4 were arrested & were charged with Robbery & Assault; they were arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility. The City of Norwich Police Department assisted with the investigation. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.

Two men were arrested and 100 pounds of marijuana were seized after the Otsego County Sheriff’s Department raided elaborate growing operations in Morris and New Lisbon. 47 year old Christian Balmaceda of Morris and 49 year old Joseph Ali of New Lisbon were arrested, Balmaceda was charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana, Unlawful Growing of Cannabis, and 3 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Ali was charged with Criminal Possession of Marijuana, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Unlawfully Growing of Cannabis, they were remanded to the Otsego County Jail pending future court action.

The Broome County Sheriff's Department announced that 17-year-old Ali Masland was found safe Thursday, the developmentally challenged teen had been reported missing from her residence in the Town of Chenango late Wednesday afternoon. No further details have been released.

New York state’s farms generated $4.8 billion in revenue in 2017, with 15 agricultural products ranked in the top 5 nationwide, according to a report released today by
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. New York has more than 35,000 farms covering 7.3 million acres, nearly one quarter of the state’s land area. Milk is by far the state’s
largest agricultural commodity, with $2.7 billion in sales in 2017, New York vineyards covered 35,000 acres in 2017, producing 187,000 tons of grapes, surpassed only by

Today approximately 100 Delegates from across 10 counties met in Binghamton to formally nominate the Republican candidate for State Supreme Court in the 6th
Judicial District, they unanimously selected Chenango County District Attorney Joe McBride to run as the Party's candidate in this November's election. The vacancy in
this office was created by the recent retirement of Judge Kevin Dowd.

Sidney High School Senior J.P. Dewey has been selected to perform with the NYSSMA Conference All-State Jazz Ensemble in Rochester this fall. Dewey will be playing
piano in the 18-piece ensemble, and will also attend the music conference from November 29-December 2, he will also be eligible to perform with the ensemble in March
as part of NYSSMA Day festivities in Albany.

A judge has denied a motion by ex-Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver regarding his bail request, pending the appeal of his corruption conviction and seven-year prison term. U.S. District Judge Valerie Caproni has denied Silver's request Monday, she stated that the substance of Silver's appeal lacks merit, and the sole purpose of the request was to stall Silver starting his prison term on October 5th. Silver was sentenced to 12 years in prison after his first conviction in 2015, that conviction was overturned after the U.S. Supreme Court redefined the boundaries of public corruption, then a 2nd jury convicted him
earlier this year, for taking $5 million illegally by using his political power for personal gain.

Representatives from Fox Hospital's Tri Town Regional Hospital will participate, along with representatives from Sidney EMS, Catholic Charities, The United Way & the Tri Town Coalition on Substance Abuse Prevention.

Governor Cuomo today announced that the New York National Guard is preparing to send 10 soldiers and two UH-60 Blackhawk Medivac Helicopters with 30 days of medical supplies to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina to assist with response and recovery efforts in the wake of Hurricane Florence. 50 additional Airmen have also been deployed from the 106th Rescue Wing of the New York Air National Guard. The state's incident management team is also ready to assist with response and recovery efforts including command and control, planning, logistics and administration activities, operational coordination, obtaining situational information and reporting, incident action planning, GIS mapping, and logistical support for ongoing response operations. 100 additional National Guard Members are on standby.

The have been some changes made within the Sidney Fire Department, as the MacDonald Hose Company was closed & the equipment was moved to the Main River Street location, which then forced a move by the Sidney Emergency Squad. Sidney EMS Spokesman Ray Baker explains:

Baker said that the Emergency Squad is still looking for their own permanent location with a garage for their vehicles, one of the sites being considered is the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall site at Patterson & Division Streets.

The Alzheimer's Association of Northeastern New York will begin their series of walking events this weekend, with the Leatherstocking Walk to End Alzheimer's in Oneonta. The walk is presented by New York Central Mutual Insurance, it will be held tomorrow at Neahwa Park in Oneonta starting at 2:00 pm. More information is available at alz.org.

Governor Cuomo defeated Cynthia Nixon easily for the Democratic Party Primary for Governor, also winning statewide Primary Elections were Kathy Hochul for Lieutenant Governor, & Letitia James for Attorney General. Local State Assembly incumbents Cliff Crouch & Bill Magee won their Primary challenges by large margins. Otsego County Sheriff Richard Devlin Jr. won his Primary election for the Republican nomination over challenger Robert Fernandez.

The State DOT has notified the City of Oneonta staff that a consultant contracted by DOT will perform a “peak-hour turn-movement study” at the Main Street intersection with the James F. Lettis Highway, beginning next Wednesday, and continuing around the clock for several days. The study’s duration will depend upon weather conditions. Video cameras, which will be mounted on 20-foot-tall poles, will be installed at the intersection on Tuesday; NYSDOT officials emphasized that cameras will record only movements of metal objects, and are not capable of identifying pedestrians, motorists, specific vehicles, or license plates.

28 year old Devan Ellsworth will have his case come up before a Chenango County grand Jury shortly. Ellsworth is accused of assaulting his 20-month-old daughter, who died the following day. He is charged with 2nd-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child, Police & 1st Responders were called to Ellsworth's apartment on Henry Street in Norwich & found the child with a head injury; she was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where she died. Additional charges are expected to be filed against Ellsworth following the release of the Autopsy that was conducted at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, Ellsworth is being held at the Chenango County Jail.

Chenango County Sheriff's department arrested 26 year old Mathew Schrann of Greene Thursday on an arrest warrant issued out of the Town of Greene Court for Menacing. Schrann is accused of menacing multiple victims with a rifle; he was arraigned in the Town of Greene Court and was released on his own recognizance.

Governor Cuomo today announced that flags on state government buildings will be flown at half-staff today in remembrance of the nearly 3,000 men, women and children who lost their lives in the 2001 terrorist attacks. Various ceremonies are expected to be held around the state on the 17th anniversary of the Terrorist attacks on the Twin Towers, the Pentagon and for the lives lost in the plane crash in Shanksville Pennsylvania.

State Senator Jim Seward announced $30,000 in state grant funding for the West Oneonta Volunteer Fire Department. The monies will be used to help with the cost of an omni-directional alert & voice mass notification system. The new equipment replaces an obsolete system which was over sixty years old.

Governor Cuomo directed the State DEC to come up with new regulations to phase out the use of hydrofluorocarbons, which is a group of potent greenhouse gas pollutants used in a wide variety of applications. The regulations would prohibit specific substances for use in new consumer products, including aerosol propellants, commercial and residential food refrigeration equipment, commercial air-conditioning equipment, light-duty vehicle air-conditioning and foam-blowing agents. The phase out, which would be implemented from 2020-2024, the DEC will be seeking input on this proposal prior to proceeding with a formal rulemaking, with the intent of finalizing a rule in 2019.

Toxic blooms of Algae have been reported in 81 lakes and ponds across New York state, according to the state DEC. The 17 new entries were added to the list in the past week, including in the Finger Lakes region. DEC Officials said that September is the peak season for blooms, most of which are harmless to humans; however certain types produce toxins that can kill dogs. The DEC lists the toxic blooms at dec.ny.gov.

Delaware Sheriff Craig DuMond welcomed State Senator James Seward at the Delaware County Sheriff's Office today, where Seward announced a $25,000 State Grant for the Department. Sheriff Dumond said that they will be using the grant to purchase a vehicle to be used by an Investigator in the Criminal Investigations Division.

State Police arrested 21 year old Christopher DeGrazio of Pelham, NY for DWI with a BAC of .15%. Troopers were dispatched to a vehicle that was disabled in town of Colchester, they found DeGrazio sleeping in the driver’s seat, blocking the road to Russell Brook Campground. DeGrazio was arrested and released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Colchester Court. He was then turned over to a sober third party.

Fire Fighters responded to a call at A.O. Fox Hospital – Tri-Town Campus on Pearl Street in Sidney at approximately 1:00 PM Friday afternoon regarding smoke. The building was evacuated and it was later determined that a line supplying the cooling system had a crack in it and was spraying coolant into the Laboratory Department, which created a smoke-like reaction that led to an evacuation. No injuries were reported. All care services are back to operating normally.

Otsego County Sheriff's Department arrested 20 year old Christopher Robinson of the Town of Maryland, following allegations of an adult having sexual encounters with a juvenile. Robinson was charged with 2nd degree Rape & Criminal Sexual Act, for allegedly performing sexual acts with a female who was 14 & 15 years old at the time of the incidents in question. Robinson was arraigned in the Town of Worcester Court & is being held on $5,000 dollars cash bail or $10,000 bond at the Otsego County Jail.

Animal Adventure Park in Harpursville and the Wildlife Conservation Center of Virginia announced that Tajiri, the calf of April born before the whole world last year, will be transported to the Carolina Wildlife Conservation Park outside of Raleigh, North Carolina. Animal Adventure Park owner Jordan Patch stated that this move will allow Tajiri to play a vital role in the conservation and propagation initiatives that align with the facilities mission statements. Tajiri will be leaving New York at the end of October; more information is available at wildlifeconservationcenter.org.

State Police arrested 41 year old Bobbi Falank of Sidney for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC of .22%. Troopers were dispatched to a report of an erratic driver on Woodland Road in Sidney who had driven through a lawn. Troopers caught up with the Falank, she was arrested and released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Sidney Court on September 20th.

State Police arrested 48 year old Jonathan Loftus of Oneonta for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. A trooper was dispatched to Chestnut Street where Loftus was accused of stealing prescription medication; he was arrested & was arraigned in the town of Oneonta Court where he was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on cash bail pending future court action.

State Police arrested 49 year old Scott Ray of Afton for DWI, after Troopers on patrol observed the vehicle Ray was operating speeding and cross over the double yellow line while on County Road 39 in Afton. A traffic stop was initiated and troopers determined Ray was impaired, he was arrested and released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Afton Court on September 17, 2018.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies, Walton Village Police, New York State Police, & several local Emergency Squads responded Thursday to a head-on collision, with 5 victims and 1 entrapment, on County Highway 21 near the intersection of Russell Road in the Town of Walton. The Investigation by Sheriff's Deputies determined that 42 year old Jeremy Shaw of Walton was driving a pickup truck when he crossed over the center line and struck a SUV head on driven by 43 year old Michael Franzese of Pearl River. Franzese was transported to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton with head and facial injuries and was later transferred to UHS Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, 41 year old Diane Franzese, 12 year old Anthony Franzese and 10 year old Angelina Franzese were also transported to Delaware Valley Hospital in Walton, they suffered various injuries and were treated and released. Jeremy Shaw sustained injuries to his head and lower extremities, as well as possible internal injuries, and was airlifted to Albany Medical Center. The cause of this accident remains under investigation.

Governor Cuomo announced that teams from FEMA have begun Joint Public Assistance Preliminary Damage Assessments in 8 counties impacted by severe flooding in early August. The assessments will determine if the total amount of damage costs meets the $28.29 million requirement for federal aid, if so, a disaster declaration will be granted and FEMA funding would be available to support infrastructure repair. Broome, Chenango, & Delaware Counties are included locally. The heavy rain storms and resulting flooding caused significant damage to roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure. state & local officials believe that the total costs meet the federal threshold for a disaster declaration.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies & the State DOT Safety Unit conducted a commercial vehicle safety check point at the intersection of State Highway 357 and County Highway 14 in the Town of Franklin. 6 commercial vehicles were stopped and examined, 4 were found to have violations significant enough to necessitate that they be taken out of service until their mechanical issues were fixed or negligence corrected, 5 traffic tickets were issued.

Governor Cuomo announced that lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on State highways will be suspended until Tuesday morning at 6:00 AM in order to accommodate travelers during the busy Labor Day weekend. Some work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or for emergency repairs. New Yorkers are reminded that state and local law enforcement will be participating in the statewide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" enforcement through Labor Day, Motorists can expect to see law enforcement stopping and arresting impaired drivers in order to keep roads safe this holiday weekend.

State Police arrested 49 year old Christine Pecoraro of Oneonta for Aggravated DWI with a B.A.C of .28%, following an accident on State Route 357 in Franklin. Troopers found a vehicle in the lawn of a residence, after an investigation, Pecoraro was arrested & was arraigned in the town of Davenport Court where she was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond. Her next court appearance is September 27th.

Governor Cuomo announced a joint effort by state agencies to crack down on underage drinking on college campuses and in college towns as the fall semester begins. The State Liquor Authority and the State DMV, working with local law enforcement agencies, will conduct statewide sweeps of locations holding liquor licenses, including bars, restaurants, liquor stores and grocery stores, looking for fake IDs and illegal sales to minors. The combined enforcement effort will begin immediately, Persons under the age of 21 found to be using fake IDs or false documents with the intent of purchasing alcohol can be arrested and have their license revoked for a minimum of 90 days or up to one year. Businesses charged by the State Liquor Authority with underage sales face civil penalties of up to $10,000 per violation, and repeat offenders also face potential suspension or revocation of their liquor licenses.

The Water System Staff in the Mount Upton Water District was notified Tuesday afternoon of a loss of pressure, which may increase the risk of contamination. The Health Department is advising district residents to boil water before drinking or using for food preparation. The repair has been made, and the Water District expects that the Boil Water notice could be cancelled later today after testing.

State Police arrested 32 Year Old Brent Fallon of Endwell for Unlawful Manufacture of Methamphetamine, following an explosion & fully engulfed house fire on Wayne Street Sunday. Broome County fire investigators and State Police revealed that the basement had precursors for the manufacture of methamphetamine. Fallon was arrested and released on an appearance ticket returnable to the town Union Court on September 4th.

The State of Emergency for 14 counties hit by flash flooding last week, ends tomorrow. Locally, Broome & Chenango Counties suffered significant damage; the counties with the most damage are Cayuga & Seneca Counties.

The City of Oneonta has been awarded a New York State Agriculture and Markets Community Growers Grant in the amount of $25,000 to make improvements to the Community Garden located at the Swart-Wilcox Park on Wilcox Avenue. Work at the garden will include installing a new accessible area with 4 raised table top beds, a new accessible path from the street and sidewalk to the garden, reinforced fencing to keep animals out, extending the water system through the length of the garden, a new shed and Communal gardening equipment, and new picnic tables and benches.

State Police & Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 36 year old Christopher Pashley of Franklin & 23 year old Samantha Ryan of Walton, for allegedly taking property in the towns of Franklin, Unadilla and Sidney. Pashley was arrested for 2 counts of 3rd degree Burglary & 5 counts of Petty Larceny; Ryan was arrested for the Criminal Possession of Stolen Property and Falsifying Business Records. Pashley is accused of stealing items, while Ryan allegedly sold them to Otsego Auto Crushers. Pashley was arraigned in the town of Unadilla Court; he was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $30,000 bond. Ryan was released on an appearance tickets returnable to the town of Davenport Court on August 28th.

State Police at Deposit arrested 22 year old Mark Rodriguez of Jersey City, New Jersey for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Reckless Endangerment & Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle. Rodriguez was arrested after he led troopers on a pursuit through several different jurisdictions, with 2 female occupants in the vehicle, including a 16-year-old. Rodriguez was arraigned in the village of Hancock Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $7,000 cash bail or $15,000 bond.

The New York National Guard is Deploying 50 Service Members and 10 Vehicles to Support Flood Response Efforts, Cuomo also Activated Additional Agencies to the State Emergency Operations Center in Albany to Coordinate and Deploy Emergency Resources. The storm pattern continues to swirl over the region, it may cause additional flash flooding and New Yorkers are urged to prepare for potential extreme and unpredictable weather.

The Oneonta Common Council will hold a special meeting at 5:00 pm today in the Common Council Chambers. The purpose of the meeting will be to consider a grant application to the New York State Department of Transportation for their Transportation Alternatives Program related to pedestrian and bicycle improvements along State Routes 23 and 28 and the James F. Lettis Highway. The public is cordially invited to attend.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar has declared a State of Emergency in Broome County because of flooding and damaged roadways. The emergency orders dictate No recreational use of waterways, & do not drive on flooded roadways. Broome County encourages residents to monitor the weather forecast and road conditions frequently & they can also register for New York Alert at NYAlert.gov. Garnar said that The State of Emergency will remain in effect until further notice.

Julian VanCourt-Wels pleaded guilty to 1st degree Assault, after he accepted a plea deal from the Otsego County District Attorney’s office, back in December; VanCourt-Wels stabbed his girlfriend in the face multiple times at their Maple Street apartment in Oneonta. Vancourt-Wels will serve 10 years in a State correctional facility as part of the plea bargain arrangement.

The next Otsego County Rabies Vaccination clinic for dogs, cats & ferrets, will be held tonight at NEAWHA Park Pavilion in Oneonta from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

A State of Emergency has been declared in the Town of Hancock due to an issue with the Bear Brook Dam, which is located on the old Village of Hancock reservoir. The dam was overtopped last Thursday during the severe rainstorm, causing extensive damage to the dam & the brook, the dam is not in imminent danger of failure. If evacuations become necessary, the residents below the dam will be notified. The State of Emergency was declared because the dam is located on private property and a State of Emergency allows local officials to gain access to the property & to mitigate the situation.

Delaware County Sheriff’s department arrested 2 Otsego County residents on drug charges Friday, following the execution of a search warrant on a vehicle in the Town of Sidney. Investigators arrested 30 year old Lisa Hayslip of Oneonta and 30 year old William Katalinas of Unadilla for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance. Hayslip and Katalinas are accused of possessing heroin with the intent to sell. Deputies seized heroin, Suboxone, drug packaging paraphernalia and approximately $200 cash. Hayslip and Katalinas were arraigned and were remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $100,000 cash bail pending action in the Town of Sidney Court Wednesday. Additional charges will be filed shortly.

The Greene Fire Department announced that Chenango County road 2 between Route 12 and Route 206 is closed, Officials said that flash flooding washed out the road, make it impassable until further notice.

State Police arrested 23 year old Daniel Shelton of Unadilla for DWI after Troopers were dispatched by Delaware County 911 to a report of a vehicle in the median on Interstate 88. Troopers learned that Shelton was traveling in a westerly direction when he veered to the right, struck a guiderail then crossed back toward the median. Shelton was arrested & was released to a sober third party and will appear in the town of Sidney Court on August 23rd.

The Otsego County health Department reported that a raccoon in the town of Mt. Vision, tested positive for rabies last week. The raccoon attacked a dog on Wednesday, 1 person came in contact with the raccoon while attempted the save the dog. The dog was up to date on its rabies vaccinations, and required a booster that evening. The next rabies clinic in Otsego County will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Neahwa Park in Oneonta.

State Police at Oneonta arrested 41 year old Coryn Rock of Morris on 4 counts of Criminal Contempt, after Troopers were contacted on July 26th, after a victim accused Rock of sending unwanted messages to a total of 4 people who were protected by an order of protection. Rock was arrested and arraigned in the town of Morris; she was released on her own recognizance pending additional court action.

Oneonta Police are reminding City residents to lock up their vehicles, after reports of items removed from them and a number of locked vehicles have had attempted entries made. Oneonta Police suggest locking all windows & doors, keep valuables hidden from sight and be sure to secure any easily moved home and lawn decorative items when you are not home. State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli released the results of an audit of the village of Deposit today. The Audit found that the Board did not ensure all disbursements were approved before payment and listed on an approved abstract & did not ensure all disbursements were supported and for proper purposes. The audit found that the board began to enforce the collection of delinquent real property taxes in March 2016, but $172,900 remains outstanding. DiNapoli's report recommended that the board Review, audit and approve all disbursements before payment, unless otherwise allowed by law, Ensure disbursements are adequately supported and for proper purposes & that they should audit the Clerk-Treasurer’s records and report at least once a year.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 34 year old Otto Mullen of Cobleskill for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and other traffic infractions, after a traffic stop where Mullen was observed traveling at a high rate of speed on State Highway 10 in the Town of Hamden. Mullen is accused of operating a motor vehicle while his driving privileges were suspended & possessing marihuana. Mullen was processed and released with appearance tickets to appear in the Town of Hamden Court at a later date.

The eastbound lanes of I-88 were closed earlier today between exits 17 and 18 in Otsego County, due to a multiple tractor trailer accident. State Police reported that 2
tractor trailers and a pickup truck pulling an empty livestock trailer crashed, the 1st tractor trailer was traveling eastbound in the left lane of I-88 when it hit the guide
wires, got caught up and then ended up in the right lane, the 2nd tractor trailer also got caught up in the guide wires that were stretched across the road, State Police
reported that the 2nd driver possibly tried to back up when the pickup truck rear-ended the 2nd tractor trailer. The pickup truck then got stuck under the back of the 2nd
tractor trailer, and the driver had to be extricated from the truck, suffering only minor injuries. the investigation is continuing.

construction work zones. 21 crashes caused by distracted driving in work zones have already been reported across the State during the current construction season,

State Highway 12 north in Oxford, over Fly Meadows Creek, will close this morning through August 8th for bridge deck replacement. The bridge is located north of the Village of Oxford between County Road 4 and Turner Street, Traffic will be required to detour using County Road 32 (East River Road) between State Highway 220/County Road 35 and County Road 32B (Halfway House Road Bridge) for the extent of the closure.

State Police arrested 26 year old Luis Tirado Jr. of Staten Island, for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drugs and unlawful possession of Marihuana. Troopers were on a stationary checkpoint in the village of Deposit, when Tirado was stopped, He was arrested & was issued appearance tickets to the village of Deposit Court returnable on August 14th.

In June, New York State’s private sector job count rose by 15,000, to over 8.1 Million, according to preliminary figures released today by the State Department of Labor.
The State unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.5% in June, which is the lowest level since June 2007.

State Police arrested 33 year old Tyson Robb of Delhi, for DWI, after Troopers spotted Robb in the pull off area on State Route 10 in Delhi and checked on his welfare. Troopers accuse Robb of being intoxicated, he was arrested and issued appearance tickets returnable to the town of Delhi Court on July 24th. State police arrested 30 year old Jennifer Hewitt of Delhi for DWI after she arrived at the State Police barracks to pick up Robb. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the town of Harpersfield Court on July 23rd. Both Robb and Hewitt were then turned over to a sober third party and released.

State Police arrested 21 year old Dana Scarinzi of Endicott for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, after Troopers were dispatched to a 2-car accident on State Route 79 in Colesville. Troopers determined that Scarinzi crossed over the center line and sideswiped a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction & they accuse Scarinzi of being intoxicated, with a reported B.A.C. of .21%. Scarinzi will appear in the town of Colesville Court on August 1st.

State Police arrested 34 year old Gabriel McKown of Guilford for 2nd degree Burglary. Troopers began an investigation after a complainant in Union reported that McKown had unlawfully entered their residence without permission on several occasions. McKown was arraigned in the town of Union Court. He was remanded to the Broome County Jail on $2,000 cash bail or $5,000 bond.

State Police at Deposit arrested 55 year old Thomas Leonard of Hancock for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument. A trooper on patrol observed Leonard operating a vehicle with an expired registration and what appeared to be a photocopy of an inspection sticker. After a traffic stop was initiated, an investigation led to the trooper locating drugs in Leonard’s possession. He was subsequently arrested and arraigned in the village of Hancock Court. Leonard was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.

The Delaware County Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Solid Waste Facility Director Susan McIntyre and staff at the Center, on State Highway 10 in Walton, for a public open house on Saturday, August 11 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon. State Police arrested 27 year old Dillion Beadle of Norwich for Driving While Intoxicated after he was involved in a two car crash. Troopers were dispatched to a crash on State Highway 12 in Norwich. No serious injuries were reported. Beadle was turned over to a sober third party and is scheduled to appear in the town of Norwich Court on August 2nd.

The New York State Departments of Health and Agriculture & Markets cautioned New York residents, visitors and farmers about the continued importance of taking measures to protect against ticks, as a new tick species, the "longhorned tick," was recently discovered in Westchester County. The State Department of Health reported that the longhorned tick has transmitted disease to humans in other parts of the world, and may pose a threat to livestock. The Department of Agriculture and Markets encourages livestock owners and veterinarians to also be vigilant for unusually heavy tick infestations, if longhorned ticks are suspected, farmers should consult with their veterinarians and contact the Department at 518-457-3502.

State Police arrested 2 people after a traffic stop on State Route 12 in Chenango. 31 year old Derrick Jenks of Greene was arrested for 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, 27 year old Leigha Nault of Greene was arrested for 3 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, & Unlawfully Dealing with Fireworks and Possession of a Controlled Substance Outside of Original Container. Nault was operating a vehicle on State Route 12 which was not insured. After an investigation, troopers located marijuana, heroin, LSD, and several different types of illegal fireworks. Nault and Jenks were released on appearance tickets in the town of Chenango Court on July 24th.

On Friday evening, July 6, 2018, members of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office, State Police, including K-9 units, and the Village of Walton Police Department conducted an Enhanced Traffic Safety Enforcement Campaign in the Village of Walton and surrounding area towns. This campaign resulted in a total of 57 traffic summonses being issued. The collaborative detail resulted in the following arrests: 4 Arrests for Driving While Intoxicated; 2 Arrests for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated; 1 Arrest for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle; 4 Arrests for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana; 1 Arrest for Reckless Driving & 1Unlawfully Fleeing a Police Officer.

Property tax levy growth for local governments will be capped at 2% for the 2019 fiscal year, according to State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. This figure affects the tax cap calculations for all counties, towns, fire districts, 44 cities and 10 villages. The tax cap limits tax levy increases to the lesser of the rate of inflation or 2% with some exceptions, including a provision that allows municipalities to override the tax cap. The State Department of Health today announced the filing of emergency regulations adding any condition for which an opioid could be prescribed as a qualifying condition for medical marijuana. Effective immediately, registered practitioners may certify patients to use medical marijuana as a replacement for opioids, provided that the precise underlying condition for which an opioid would otherwise be prescribed is stated on the patient's certification. This allows patients with severe pain that doesn't meet the definition of chronic pain to use medical marijuana as a replacement for opioids. More information is available at health.ny.gov.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies received a complaint of a red motorcycle on State Highway 28, in the village of Delhi, traveling at a high rate of speed. A responding Deputy was unable to safely pursue the motorcycle due to its speed. Deputies located and identified the operator of the motorcycle as 29 year old Kyle Vandewerker of Oneonta, who was clocked at 109 miles per hour. Vandewerker was issued Traffic Tickets for reckless driving, speeding, and speed not reasonable and prudent and was released to appear in the Town of Delhi Court to answer the charges on a later date.

State Police arrested 39 year old Allen Shew of Afton, for Criminal Trespass & Disorderly Conduct. Troopers responded to the Mirabito on Main Street in Afton, Shew is accused of throwing items inside the store, kicking the glass door and throwing items outside. Shew was arraigned in the town of Afton Court. He is scheduled to reappear on July 23rd, and advised never to return to the store.

State Police arrested 22 year old Christopher O’Brien of Queens Monday for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. A
trooper monitoring traffic on I-81 in the town of Chenango observed O’Brien operating a vehicle at a high rate of speed and initiated a traffic stop, troopers located acid,
cocaine, marijuana and other drugs, O’Brien was arraigned & he was remanded to the Broome County Jail on $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond.

Governor Cuomo today announced the completion of a $2.2 million project to expand and revitalize the Chenango Valley State Park beachfront and swimming area as
part of the New York Parks 2020 initiative. The project includes expanded sand beach area with multiple swim areas, a new splash pad area adjacent to the beach, and a
new corkscrew waterslide. This year, there are 3 week-long sessions with 9 total classes offered at Chenango Valley State Park, more than 80 children will learn to swim
at the park through the program this summer.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 29 year old Donald Kern of Sidney for Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. Deputies and Hancock Village Police Department responded in March to the report of a dead dog in the Delaware River, that had been fatally shot. Kern was identifed as the owner, Deputies recovered a rifle illegally sold by Kern, that was used to kill the dog. Kern was arraigned in the Village of Hancock Court Sunday morning and was remanded to the Delaware County jail on $1,000 cash bail pending further court action. Kern will face additional firearms related charges shortly.

The American Red Cross is facing an emergency blood shortage following a difficult Fourth of July week for blood donations; with hundreds fewer blood drives than a typical week and a resulting decline in donations. Locally, Blood drives are being held today in Delhi from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm at the SUNY Delhi O’Connor Center for Community Engagement at 2 Main Street & again in Delhi on Friday from 1:00 to 6:00 PM at the Delhi Rehabilitation and Nursing Center on State Highway 10.

The Delaware County Department of Public Health announced that a Free Rabies Vaccination clinic will be held today, for dogs cats & domesticated ferrets. the clinic will be held at the Colchester Highway Garage on River Road in Downsville from5:00 to 6:30 PM. Assemblyman Cliff Crouch announced that he had successfully obtained over 1,850 signatures and has secured his place on the ballot for this year's Republican Primary for State Assembly. Crouch has received the support of over 53 local elected officials, and the endorsement of all four Republican county chairmen within the 122nd Assembly District. He faces a challenge in the primary from Nicholas Libous, the son of the late area State Senator Tom Libous.

State Senator Fred Akshar has come under fire for his relationship with Jessica Williams, who has worked for Akshar, his predecessor Tom Libous & is now working for the state Senate Republicans staff and she has received large percentage pay increases since 2011. Akshar spokesman Emmanuel Priest told WCDO News that Williams' is involved with Senator Akshar, and the increasing salary was commensurate with the work she has been tasked with doing. Akshar has been a State Senator since 2015, when he won a special election to fill Libous's seat.

State Police arrested 45 year old Brett Brooks of Sidney, Wednesday, for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired by Drugs. Troopers were dispatched to a 2 car Accident on State Highway 7 near Valley View Drive in Unadilla. After an investigation, Brooks was arrested and arraigned in the town of Unadilla Court, he was released on his own recognizance and scheduled to reappear on August 13th.

Governor Cuomo today announced $30 million is available statewide to support conservation easement projects on dairy farms. The Farmland Protection Program for dairy builds on New York State's continued land preservation efforts. In May, the State announced nearly $38 million is available through the Farmland Protection Implementation Grant program to help Farmers across New York protect valuable and at-risk farmland. The application deadline is August 31, and the Request for Proposals is available at agriculture.ny.gov/RFPS.html.

470 New York State municipalities have adopted tobacco-free outdoor area policies, 2 recent examples are the Town of Stamford and Village of Delhi in Delaware County. Both municipalities recently worked with Advancing Tobacco Free Communities in Delaware, Otsego and Schoharie Counties, spokesperson Linda Wegner comments:

The use of tobacco products is prohibited on any present and future parks, recreation areas, trails and events under the jurisdiction of the Town of Stamford & the Village of Delhi, Tobacco products are defined as any manufactured product containing tobacco or nicotine including but not limited to cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco, Snuff, chewing tobacco, dipping tobacco, e-cigarettes and vape pens.

Governor Cuomo announced that advance sale tickets for the 2018 Great New York State Fair will be available Monday, July 9, including new discounts to make the Fair more affordable. The New York State Fair is operated by the State Department of Agriculture and Markets, it runs from August 22 to September 3 this year in Syracuse.

State Police are cracking down on drunk and drugged driving and other traffic infractions for the 4th of July holiday. State Troopers are conducting sobriety checkpoints and targeting reckless and aggressive driving statewide to keep New York highways safe during one of the busiest times for summertime traveling. The enforcement detail will run through Thursday, July 5th. Also, Governor Cuomo announced that lane closures for road and bridge construction projects on State highways will be suspended until Thursday, to accommodate travelers during the busy Independence Day holiday.

The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York urges New Yorkers to let professionals handle the fireworks, and not to use these dangerous & illegal devices themselves. All fireworks, including sparklers can be extremely dangerous, the tip of a sparkler burns at a temperature of nearly 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit, which can cause severe 3rd degree burns, sparklers cause roughly 25% of all fireworks-related emergency room visits, the most of any type of fireworks-like device.

Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested 29 year old Vincent Reggero of Arkville, for False Personation, after he identified himself to Deputies during a traffic stop on State Highway 206 in the Town of Walton on June 25th using a false name and date of birth. Reggero had an active warrant for his arrest from San Antonio, Texas for Assault/Bodily Injury of a Security Officer; he was then arrested as a Fugitive from Justice and arraigned in the Village of Walton Court where he was remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail. Reggero will answer to charges in the Town of Walton while he awaits extradition to the State of Texas.

State Police Superintendent George Beach announced the death of Trooper Nicholas Clark. Early Monday morning, Trooper Clark, the Stueben County Sheriff’s Office and the Corning Police Department responded to a call of a suicidal subject barricaded at a residence in the town of Erwin, Stueben County. During the incident response, Trooper Clark was shot and killed. 43-year old Steven Kiley was found in the residence dead of an apparent gunshot wound. Trooper Clark was 29 years old, he graduated from the 203rd session of the Basic School in 2015. The incident remains under investigation.

The Oxford Fire Department responded Wednesday night to a fire on Turner Street that destroyed a camper. Firefighters & some local residents helped to remove 3 dogs from the fire, no injuries were reported.

5 more races remain in 2018 Run Chenango series, which is a series of 5K and 10K races organized by non-profit groups across Chenango County. The 5th race in the series is "Chris’s Run" in Cincinnatus this Saturday, to benefits the Chris Tennant Foundation, registration begins at 6:30 AM; the race begins at 8:00 AM at the Cincinnatus Town Park. The Village of Sidney Police Department reminds area residents that with the July 4th holiday approaching, fireworks remain illegal in New York State. Sparkling devices are the exception to fireworks laws. Firecrackers, bottle rockets, roman candles are still illegal in New York State and violators are subject to arrest under the New York State Penal Law.

State Police arrested 34 year old Bradley Lidell of Norwich for felony of Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, DWI, & Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test. Troopers were dispatched to a reported one car rollover on County Road 21 in the town of Smyrna. Troopers located Lidell, their investigation revealed Lidell’s license has been suspended 17 times. Lidell was transported to the Chenango Memorial Hospital for a complaint of pain. After he was released, he was processed at SP Norwich then arraigned in the Smyrna Town Court. Lidell was remanded to the Chemung County Jail on $7,500 cash bail or $12,000 bond.

A new report released Monday by a coalition of New York State law enforcement officials, public health experts and elected officials, showed that The Delaware County had the highest rates of gun-related suicide and homicide. The research focused at the rate of homicide and suicide in each county from 2012 to 2016, the report showed that for every 100,000 residents of Delaware County, there were 13.4 gun-related deaths, & the a rate of suicide by gun at 12.9. Other counties that ranked high were Allegany, Wyoming, Cattaraugus and Sullivan counties. New York State’s overall gun-related death rate was 4.4 deaths per 100,000 residents, which is below the national average of 11.8 deaths per 100,000 residents.

Open FOIL NY offers an open-access online form to request records from up to 3 agencies simultaneously, Access & contact information for 59 State agencies and authorities, and direct access to a growing body of online information and resources.

Chenango County Sheriff's Department arrested 24 year old Cara Kaskeski of Mount Vision, for Welfare Fraud & Offering a False Instrument for Filing. Kaskeski allegedly collected more than $9,000 in child care assistance from July 2014 through November 2017 which she was not entitled to receive, she was issued appearance tickets to appear in the City of Norwich Court at a later date.

US Postal Inspectors, State Police CNET, Homeland Security Investigators (HSI), Vestal Police Department and the Broome County Drug Task Force made a controlled delivery of a package containing approximately 250 grams of Ecstasy to a residence in Binghamton. Following the delivery, a search was conducted at the home of 32 year old Andrew Davis, A search of the residence leads to the recovery of the package, digital scales, cellphone, & other items, Davis was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, he was arraigned and was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail.

State Police arrested 36 year old Jennifer Grant of Westford for DWI, Operating a Vehicle While Registration Suspended, & Unlawful Possession of Marihuana, plus numerous traffic tickets. Troopers stopped Grant while on Otsego County Highway 34 after they observed her cross the center line and drive onto the shoulder. Grant was released to a sober third party and given appearance tickets to the town of Westford Court on July 17th.

State Police arrested 35 year old Todd Bailey of Cobleskill for felony Criminal Mischief, plus 3rd degree Assault & Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Troopers were dispatched to Gilbert Lake Park in the town of Laurens for a domestic dispute involving several people; Bailey is accused of having a physical altercation with several family members, including a child under the age of 17, and causing damage to a vehicle. Bailey was arraigned in the town of Laurens Court and was released in his recognizance, pending court action Thursday

The state Department of Health billed drug companies for $425.9 million in Medicaid drug rebates after auditors alerted the department to rebates it missed out on, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Auditors determined that, with the inception of Health and Recovery Plans, The Department of Health did not take appropriate steps to ensure that Health and Recovery Plans-related drugs were identified and processed for rebate invoicing, erroneously excluding those drugs due to inadequate monitoring of the rebate process. Rebates were not invoiced and collected from manufacturers until after auditors informed Health Department officials of the errors.

State DEC Commissioner Basil Seggos announced that this weekend is Free Fishing Weekend in New York State. Each year, New York offers six free fishing days. The Free Fishing Weekend takes place during the last full weekend in June; additional Free Fishing Days include National Hunting and Fishing Day, which will be September 22nd this year, plus Veterans Day in November, and the weekend preceding Presidents Day in February. During these designated free fishing days, New York residents and non-residents are permitted to fish for free without a fishing license

The State Legislature has passed the Drug Take Back Act. The bill creates a statewide pharmaceutical take-back program and holds drug companies accountable for proper disposal, it also aims at protecting New York's water supplies from improper drug disposal. The bill was passed by the State Senate in their final days of the 2018 session, it passed in the Assembly several weeks earlier, and it now goes to Governor Cuomo for consideration.

The Great Race is stopping at the Northeast Classic Car Museum for their Lunch Stop on Sunday. 120 vintage race cars will fill the 3 blocks in front of the museum, an Opening ceremony will be at noon, followed by cars coming in at a rate of one a minute for 2 hours. Rexford Street will be closed to the public Sunday, so the racers can come in and park their cars on the street. The public is welcome. State Police arrested 28 year old David Sarauw of Colesville, for felony Criminal Contempt, following a complaint when a victim told troopers Sarauw was violating an Order of Protection and continued to call the victim over four dozen times. Sarauw was arrested & was arraigned in the town of Colesville Court and remanded to the Broome County Jail on $500 cash bail.

A plan to ban plastic grocery bags in New York State is not expected to pass the state legislature before the end of the 2018 session this month. Governor Cuomo proposed the idea earlier this year, a bill was introduced in the State Senate, but there was no companion legislation filed in the Assembly.

The State Attorney General’s office has filed charged against 2 former owners of an Otsego County nursing facility. Joseph Zupnik & Daniel Herman face charges of endangering the welfare of residents at the former Focus Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in the town of Otsego, the owners and their company is accused of reducing staffing to dangerous levels after acquiring the facility from the County in 2014. Centers Health care took over the facility earlier this year.

The New York State Education Department announced that the Unadilla Valley School District will get a $775,000 grant, to fund a program where students can receive college credit for courses before leaving high school. The Grant is good for 5 years of the program.

The Annual American Cancer Society’s Tri Town Relay For Life will be held today & tonight at General Clinton Park. Organizer Heather Brewster said that the teams have already raised quite a bit of money prior to the event:

The 38th annual Algonquin Antique Auto Show will be held this Sunday at General Clinton Park. The event begins at 9:00 AM Sunday; trophies will be awarded in 22 categories.

New York State ranked 4th nationwide in credit card debt at $58.2 billion in 2017, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Although credit card debt declined significantly in the state from 2008 through 2013, the trend reversed in 2014 as per capita balances rose by more than 14% through 2017 to $3,710, nearly 20% above the national average. DiNapoli said that the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau provides advice and resources to help consumers deal credit card issues at consumerfinance.gov.

The 56th General Clinton Canoe Regatta was held this past Memorial Day Weekend; which featured the famous 70 mile races from Cooperstown to Bainbridge on Monday. In the 4 person class, the Michigan team of Bruce & Roxanne Barton, Tim Triebold & Jeff Kolka edged out the 2nd place team of Jeff Shultis, Bob Zaveral, Larry Harrison & Bob Wisse by just 15 seconds, Bruce Barton talked about the tough race:

Chenango County Sheriff’s department arrested 2 Town of Pharsalia residents following an investigation into stolen property. Chenango County Sheriff’s Detectives and Deputies performed a search warrant on a property in the Town of Pharsalia; they discovered numerous items that were reported stolen, along with cultivated marihuana. 38 year old Todd Jackson was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, criminal possession of a controlled substance & Unlawful growing of cannabis. Jackson was arraigned in the Town of McDonough Court and released on his own recognizance. 34 year old Chelsea Evanoff was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful growing of cannabis, she was released on an appearance ticket to appear in the Town of Pharsalia Court on a later date.

Chenango County Sheriff’s Department arrested 36 year old Zane Marvin of Pitcher for criminal contempt and criminal mischief. Marvin was charged following an investigation into a complaint of an order of protection violation, after Marvin allegedly went to the residence of the protected party and kicked in the front door causing damage to the door. Marvin was arraigned in the Town of Pitcher Court where he was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $500 cash bail.
