The Ron Palmer Memorial Scholarship Fund Annual Tribute and Reunion Fundraising Event will be taking place this Saturday at the Hidden Springs Brewhaus on County Road 31 in Norwich from 12:00 noon to 7:00pm. Organizer & Local musician Bruce Beadle explains:

Beadle said that Palmer was a well-known local musician who toured & recorded With the Late Harry Chapin in the 70's, more information about the scholarship or the fundraiser is available at 244-5481.
Attorney Danielle Fogel of Onondaga County announced that she is running for Supreme Court Judge in New York's 5th Judicial District as the Republican candidate. Fogel's announcement follows former Democratic Congressman Anthony Brindisi's announcement that he will run for the seat.
Vestal Police arrested 31 year old Zeke Wilmarth of Binghamton for Attempted Murder, following a stabbing on Garden Lane Sunday. Police found the victim with multiple stab wounds & other injuries; she was taken to an area hospital and was in critical condition, the investigation is continuing, Wilmarth faces court action shortly.
Governor Cuomo signed a bill today that would overturn an outdated law that was rarely enforced. The bill will allow New Yorkers to get a haircut at a barbershop or salon on Sundays.
Binghamton Mayor Richard David announced his intentions today to run for the 52nd District State Senate seat in 2022. The State Senate Seat will be available next year after current State Senator Fred Akshar's announced that he would run for Broome County Sheriff, instead of for re-election to the State Senate.
Chenango County Public Health announced that a 2nd dose Pfizer clinic will be held today at the former Label Shopper Store in the South Plaza in Norwich. The Clinic will run from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, more information is available at 337-1660.

State Police are investigating multiple burglaries at seasonal residences in Chenango, Delaware and Otsego counties. 23 year old Christopher Youngs of the town of Maryland and 27 year old John Clark of Morris have been charged with 2nd degree Burglary and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property for burglaries in Otsego and Delaware counties. Youngs was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $150,000 bond. Clark was remanded to the Otsego County Jail on $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing; anyone with information should contact State Police at Troop C in Sidney at 561-7400.
State Police arrested 33 year old Johnny Rivera of South Glens Falls for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, following an accident on Delaware County Road 4 in the Town of Sidney. A trooper found an unoccupied Rent-A-Center Van that crashed into the guide rail, which had been reported stolen from Glens Falls, Rivera was walking away from the scene, he was taken to Tri-Town Hospital for the treatment of injuries then he was arraigned in Sidney Town Court & was released on his own recognizance and scheduled to reappear on July 22nd.
Sidney Police Department arrested 66 year old Paul Ferron of Sidney for Aggravated unlicensed operation in the 1st degree, Aggravated DWI with a BAC .18 or greater, Driving while intoxicated, and several tickets for traffic infractions following a recent traffic stop. Ferron was released on appearance tickets to appear in Village of Sidney Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded last Thursday to a reported violation of a temporary order of protection in East Branch, 51 year-old Thomas Newman of Hancock is accused making written contact with the protected party & for allegedly swerving his vehicle towards the protected party, who was walking along State Highway 30. Newman was charged with 2 counts of criminal contempt & 1 count of harassment, he was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on Cash Bail pending court action.

A small plane crashed near the Tri-Cities Airport in Endicott
this morning at about 11:20 AM, resulting in 1 death. The name of the deceased pilot has not been
released, the investigation is ongoing.
State Police arrested 30 year old Scott Barnes of Norwich
for DWI with a B.A.C. of .16%, twice the legal limit. Troopers were dispatched to Wheeler Avenue in
the town of Norwich for a possible trespass on private property. Troopers located Barnes whose vehicle had
rolled down a hill and became stuck in a ditch, he was arrested & was later
released on appearance tickets returnable to the town of Norwich court on June
20th.
State Police arrested 27 year old Trebor Hoxie of South New
Berlin for DWI & Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, plus several other
traffic tickets. Troopers were
dispatched to an accident on State Highway 7 in the town of Unadilla, where
Troopers arrived to find that 1 vehicle struck a parked car which caused a
chain reaction striking four other vehicles.
Hoxie was transported to Wilson Hospital, he was treated and released,
he was issued appearance tickets returnable to the town of Unadilla court on
July 8th.
The State Senate passed legislation renaming a portion of
New York State Route 205 in Otsego County in honor of United States Marine
Corps Sergeant John Kempe Winslow. The
bill was sponsored by Senator Jim Seward; Sergeant Winslow was killed in action
on July 30, 1969. Companion legislation sponsored
by Assemblyman John Salka has been introduced in the state assembly.
The State Assembly has passed a rent control package this
past week, which normally only effects downstate renters; however Assemblyman
Cliff Crouch said that this rent control legislation can affect some of his
upstate constituents:

The State legislature is now into its last week of the
legislative session, a flurry of bills could be passed prior to the end of
session.

State Police located a missing hiker early this morning, close to 12 hours after the initial 911 call was made. 58 Year Old Yi Sun of Westfield New Jersey called 911 around 12:30 PM Sunday, seeking assistance and was unable to identify where she was. Shortly after midnight, troopers on a roving patrol located Sun near the area of Routes 34/96 near Ithaca. She was transported to Cayuga Medical Center for treatment and her family was contacted. State Police, State Park Police, DEC Forest Rangers, and other agencies assisted in the lengthy search.

Marathon for felony Aggravated DWI after he was stopped for failing to maintain
his lane, almost colliding with oncoming traffic. Krebbeks had a B.A.C. of .24%, 3 times the
legal limit; he was arraigned in the town of Greene court and released on his
own recognizance. He’s set to reappear
on July 11th.
An "Elder Law & Special Needs” Law Clinic is being
held in Oneonta today from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM, for residents of Chenango,
Otsego & Delaware Counties.
Participants will get free 1/2 hour legal consultations at the Elm Park
Church at 401 Chestnut Street in Oneonta.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 37 Year old Shaun Leggio of Shirley for DWI and Driving with a BAC greater that 0.08%, & moving form a lane unsafely, following a 1 car rollover in the Town of Walton. Deputies determined that Leggio had been operating the vehicle in an intoxicated condition, with a blood alcohol content of 0.16%, he was released on appearance tickets and scheduled to appear before the Town of Walton at a later date.
After all the absentee ballots were accounted for, Anthony Brindisi has defeated one term incumbent republican Congresswoman Claudia Tenney in the 22nd district. Brindisi had small lead last week as the ballots were being counted, he attended orientations for new incoming members of Congress in Washington while the votes were being tabulated, and he will be sworn in in January.
The 24th Annual Parade Of Lights will be held in Downtown Norwich this Saturday night at 6:00 PM. Toys will be collected for Toys For Tots, there will be entertainment & Free Yogurt donated by Chobani. Saturday’s parade will start at the corner of Eaton & will go along South Broad Street north to Fair Street. Santa Claus will be set up in West park at the conclusion of the parade.

McIntyre said that the Solid Waste Management Center will also be closed on Christmas & New year’s day.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli is urging New Yorkers to read the fine print on gift cards this holiday season for details about fees and expiration dates. DiNapoli said New Yorkers should use their gift cards within a year of purchase to avoid inactivity fees and register cards with the retailers. By registering their cards, owners can be identified which improves the opportunity of finding and claiming unused card balances that may be reported as unclaimed funds. Money from unused gift cards issued by New York businesses is turned over to the State Comptroller’s office as abandoned property after five years of dormancy. State residents can find out if the state owes them money, can find out at osc.state.ny.us.
Governor Cuomo today announced $27.1 million to fund rail and port improvement projects across New York State. The grants, from the Governor's Passenger and Freight Rail Assistance Program, will support projects that strengthen infrastructure and economic development vital to the movement of goods throughout the state. In the Southern Tier $1.9 will be used by Central New York Railroad Corporation, B & H Rail Corporation & Catskill Revitalization Corporation.

State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli is urging New Yorkers to read the fine print on gift cards this holiday season for details about fees and expiration dates. DiNapoli said New Yorkers should use their gift cards within a year of purchase to avoid inactivity fees and register cards with the retailers. By registering their cards, owners can be identified which improves the opportunity of finding and claiming unused card balances that may be reported as unclaimed funds. Money from unused gift cards issued by New York businesses is turned over to the State Comptroller’s office as abandoned property after five years of dormancy. State residents can find out if the state owes them money, can find out at osc.state.ny.us.
Governor Cuomo today announced $27.1 million to fund rail and port improvement projects across New York State. The grants, from the Governor's Passenger and Freight Rail Assistance Program, will support projects that strengthen infrastructure and economic development vital to the movement of goods throughout the state. In the Southern Tier $1.9 will be used by Central New York Railroad Corporation, B & H Rail Corporation & Catskill Revitalization Corporation.

An estimated 3000 people attended the Funeral of New York State Trooper Timothy Pratt today in South Glens Falls. Trooper Pratt was killed last week, while he was assisting a tractor-trailer driver stuck on a median in the town of Wilton, & was accidentally struck by a second vehicle driven by 59 year old Joel Duguay of Corinth. Trooper Pratt was a 30-year veteran of the State Police and also served in the United States Air Force for 7 years prior to becoming a New York State Trooper.
Governor Cuomo announced the availability of $45 million for counties to improve their emergency communications systems and upgrade technology. Each county and New York City can submit applications to fund projects involving infrastructure, equipment and technology upgrades. The grant is administered by the state Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services. Applications must be received via email by December 8th at Grant.Info@dhses.ny.gov.
The 2016 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be a Norway Spruce tree, that will be removed from the property of Angie & Greg Eichler at 72 Country Club Road in the town of Oneonta. The Tree will be cut down November 12th and will be taken to New York City November 12th, and will be lit up in Rockefeller Plaza November 30th, live on Network Television.
Norwich City Police, Fire fighters & EMT's responded to a 2 vehicle crash, into a house at 88 South Broad Street. 1 person was removed from the scene by ambulance, following the noontime accident. More details are expected to be released following the conclusion of the accident investigation.
Delaware County Deputies arrested 22-year-old Courtney Jennings of Walton Thursday on an arrest warrant for Menacing, Criminal Trespass & Endangering the Welfare of a Child, On Sunday, Deputies then arrested 45-year-old Donald Jennings of Hancock, for Menacing & Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Both were charged in connection with a recent altercation at a residence in the Town of Colchester. Both were arraigned & were released pending future court action.

The Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27-year-old Aaron Cleveland of New Berlin for 2nd degree Criminal Contempt. An office was sent to a Village of New Berlin residence to investigate a separate crime, The deputy discovered that Cleveland was the subject of a temporary order of protection from Town of New Berlin Court, Cleveland was arraigned & was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $500 cash bail pending future court action.
Delaware County Deputies investigated a one-car personal injury rollover auto accident Thursday in the Town of Davenport. 43-year-old William Wehrenberg of Davenport lost control of his vehicle on a corner on Parks Hill Road, he went off the road into an embankment causing the vehicle to overturn when reentering the roadway. Wehrenberg was issued traffic tickets for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Uninspected Motor Vehicle, Suspended Vehicle Registration, Operating without Insurance in Effect, Failure to Keep Right and Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent. All tickets are returnable to the Town of Davenport Court on June 28th. Wehrenburg & a passenger were taken to Fox Hospital in Oneonta.
The Oneonta Fire Department responded to a cooking fire Thursday night in an apartment at 7 Raymond Avenue. The fire was extinguished quickly; substantial damage to the Kitchen area was reported. The unidentified male occupant of the apartment was taken to Fox Hospital.
The search effort continues today at Letchworth State Park for a child who fell over the lower falls. 7 people reportedly fell about 60 feet over the falls, search teams found the deceased body of another young boy from that group Sunday. 2 Men & 3 young girls were rescued & taken to a Rochester area Hospital. Investigators discovered that the group were playing in the water Saturday night and one person slipped, causing a ripple effect which sent all of them plunging over the falls.
Broome County Sheriff’s Department stated that the body of 61-year-old Arthur Gehr of the Town of Union was found by searchers in the area of Zion Hill Road and Route 8 near Steam Mill State Forest in Masonville. Gehr suffered from medical issues and depression, he last spoke to his employer on June 5th and was reported missing June 7th. Authorities say there were no signs of foul play, the cause of death has not been released, & the investigation is considered closed.
Governor Cuomo & state legislative leaders announced an agreement to enhance access to breast cancer screenings. The agreement includes legislation to extend hours for screening at 210 hospital-based mammography facilities across the state and to eliminate insurance hurdles for mammograms and other screening and diagnostic imaging procedures to detect breast cancer.
State DOT announced that construction work for the Prospect Mountain construction project will be performed and will require lane closures in the City of Binghamton. Today through Thursday, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, I-81 north/State Route 17 west will have periodic, alternating lane closures between Exit 3 and the I-81/SR-17 Interchange. Crews will remove overhead sign structures and perform work to prepare for future excavation.
