26 year old Joshua Launt of Binghamton was sentenced in Broome County Court was sentenced to 6 months in Broome County Jail and 5 years probation for the death of Ronald Gilbert. Launt was accused of assaulting Gilbert at a party in Kirkwood in 2012, Gilbert did not receive medical attention and died from brain trauma. Launt pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide earlier this year.
Delaware County Deputies investigated a one car personal injury auto accident last Tuesday. 23 year old Joseph Kinch of South Kortright was traveling on Sherwood Road in the town of Delhi when he left the roadway and struck a utility pole. Kinch was transported to O’Connor Hospital & was issued a traffic ticket for failure to keep right.
Chenango County Sheriff's Deputies arrested 32 year old Kevin ray of Norwich for 1- Count Welfare Fraud & 1- Count Offering a False Instrument for filing. Ray was issued an appearance ticket and released after an investigation into welfare fraud, where he allegedly failed to report a change in his household, and received over $3000 in assistance that he was not entitled to.
Homeowners in the New York City Watershed in Delaware, Greene, Schoharie, Sullivan or Ulster Counties who may be having trouble with their septic systems are encouraged to call the Catskill Watershed Corporation to see if they qualify for help paying for repairs. State Police in Norwich report that a body of a deceased male was located submerged in the Unadilla River in the Town of Butternuts, about 2 miles south of South New Berlin. The discovery followed the search by State Police, New Berlin Police, State Forrest Rangers, Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies and Civilian volunteers, searching for 45 year old Daniel Reimers of New Berlin, who was last seen on November 7th. The investigation is continuing.
The Sidney Fire Department responded to 8 Gilbert Street around 3:00 PM Saturday afternoon. The fire was contained in about 45 minutes, no injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
State Police in Deposit and the Hancock Police Department responded to 479 County Route 28 in Fish’s Eddy for the report of an assault. Police located a 52-year-old female subject who had been in a verbal and physical altercation with 52-year-old Ronald Milke Jr; she suffered various facial injuries before she was able to exit the residence. State Police entered the residence and located Milke deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The female subject was transported to Wilson Hospital. The Investigation is continuing.
State Education Commissioner John King will visit Binghamton Monday to discuss the Common Core with community members. The forum is scheduled for 6:00 to 8:00 PM at West Middle School. The forum will be hosted by state Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo and moderated by the League of Women Voters, Assemblyman Cliff Crouch will also be serving on the panel.
