The Sidney Civic Center was officially sold to 2+4 Management earlier this month; they plan to turn the 2nd & 3rd floors into Senior Apartments. Sidney Village mayor Andy Matviak comments:

Matviak said that village offices would remain where they are on the 1st floor. Matviak said that plans are also moving forward on Main Street, in the River street area, and also for new housing on Upper West Main Street.
Delaware County Sheriff's department Investigators arrested 28-year-old Jeffrey Roberts, of Sayre, Pennsylvania as a Fugitive From Justice.. Roberts is charged with Retail Theft of Property, as well as several misdemeanor traffic offenses. Roberts was incarcerated at Delaware county Jail on an unrelated charge at the time of his arrest, and he will be arraigned as a Fugitive From Justice in the Town of Delhi Court at a later time.
The American Red Cross urges eligible donors to make an appointment to give blood to help meet the constant need for blood this winter. A blood drive is being held in Sidney today, from 1:00 to 6:00 PM, at the Sidney Elks Lodge at 104 River Street, another blood drive is being held in West Oneonta from 1:00 to 6:00 PM at the West Oneonta Fire Department, at 2865 County Highway 8. Those wishing to donate can Download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make an appointment or to get additional information.
Governor Cuomo won't be giving his usual State of the State address in Albany this January, instead, he will give 6 regional addresses during the week of January 9th. Cuomo will give his regional addresses in New York City, Western New York, the Hudson Valley, Long Island, Capital Region and Central New York. Times & locations will be announced shortly.

Governor Cuomo today announced that temporary lane closures associated with road and bridge construction projects on New York State highways will not be permitted from 6 a.m. on Friday, December 23, to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, December 27, and again from 6 a.m. on Friday, December 30, to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3 in order to accommodate motorists during the busy year-end holiday travel weekends. Some work may continue behind permanent concrete barriers or for emergency repairs.
State Police are currently investigating a fatal accident that had occurred at about 3:52 a.m., this morning on Interstate Route 81 northbound, between the Marathon and McGraw exits. This accident involves a tractor-trailer and a car. The driving lane is currently closed due to the investigation but traffic can continue in the passing lane.
A free Christmas Dinner is being offered in Sidney again this year, by area resident Gene Schmidt:

Broome County District Attorney Steve Cornwell announced that 49 year old Michael Gumaer pleaded guilty today In Broome County Court to 1st Degree Rape. Gumaer was arrested following the report of an attack on a 12-year-old Girl in August 2016 in Endicott. Gumaer will be sentenced on February 17th, 2017.
38-year-old Justin Barkley told a judge in Tompkins County Court that believed that he was shooting President Elect Donald Trump, at the Ithaca Wal-Mart parking lot on December 8th, and not UPS Driver William Schumacher. The judge has ordered Barkley to undergo a mental evaluation, to determine if Barkley is competent to stand trial. Barkley was taken into police custody after fleeing the scene, shooting at Police & engaging law enforcement in a standoff.
The recent "Selfies With Elfies" for Sarah fundraiser, raised over $750 dollars with events in Bainbridge & Afton. The money raised assisted Sarah Richardson has stage 4 Liver Cancer, & is the mother of a 3-year-old boy, Organizer Heather Bucalos is also a cancer survivor and she told WCDO News that she will continue to plan local fundraisers for those battling cancer & facing rising medical costs.
The city of Oneonta announced that the December 22nd meeting of the examining Board of Plumbers, and today's meeting of the Airport commission have been cancelled.
The Sidney Village Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting this Wednesday at 7pm in the board room of the Civic Center. This meeting is open to the public.

Police found no sign of bombs, the school was in lockdown today during the search. No arrests have been made & the investigation is ongoing.

The City of Oneonta Department of Public Service will be working on Chip Sealing of area streets this week between the hours of 7:00 AM & 4:00 PM. Area Motorists are reminded to remove their vehicles from the affected streets or facing being towed and facing towing fees. A list of streets is available by calling the DPW at 432-2100.
State & Local fire investigators are trying to determine what started the fire early Tuesday morning at the former Cooperstown Motel at 90 Chestnut Street in the village of Cooperstown. The Heirs of Al O’Brien were expected to sell the property to the CVS Pharmacy chain, with a closing scheduled for August 22nd, the Village of Cooperstown board will hold a special meeting on Friday to discuss their option. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, the Motel had been empty for several months & furniture had been removed for auction.
According to a new study, New York State is among the worst places to have a baby. "Wallet Hub" compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across three key dimensions: Delivery budget, health care and baby-friendliness, their research had New York State ranked 48th out of 51. The Top States to have a baby were Vermont, Maine, Connecticut, Minnesota & New Hampshire. New York also ranked near the bottom in annual infant-care costs & child-care centers per capita. The states that ranked worse than New York were Alabama, Louisiana & Mississippi.
Farmers in Otsego & Schoharie Counties will participate in Family Farm day this Saturday. Participants will be able to visit working farms talk to the farmers about their operations, & sample farm fresh produce. The event will run from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at participating farms, a list of farms participating in the program is available at familyfarmday.org.
New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Matthew Driscoll announced that the draft Statewide Transportation Improvement Program for federal fiscal years 2017 through 2020 is available for public review and comment. The list has all projects in New York that will receive federal funding. The draft of the STIP document will be available for public review and comment through August 26th, at dot.ny.gov.

Governor Cuomo today announced $17 million in awards to nonprofit organizations and municipalities to create more than 700 affordable homes and new home ownership opportunities throughout the state. An announcement for the Southern tier will include more than $1 million to improve and repair the homes of 46 residents in the Southern Tier; it includes $400,000 for Opportunities for Chenango, to provide rehabilitation and energy conversation measures to 16 low-income households.
Governor Cuomo today announced the expansion of the New York State Master Teacher Program. The current 623 Master Teachers have an average teaching experience of 14 years. To be eligible for application to the NYS Master Teacher Program, teachers must be certified New York State public school teachers in grades six through twelve, have a minimum of 4 years of experience teaching STEM subjects and must spend at least 60 percent of their time in the classroom teaching those subjects. Additional information about the Master Teacher Program and the application requirements and process is available at www.suny.edu/masterteacher.
Binghamton Mets New Owner John Hughes announced that the team would remain as a New York met Affiliate, but he is soliciting ideas from fans to rebrand the team & give it a new name synonymous with the Greater Binghamton Area. Hughes revealed the Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets would play at NYSEG Stadium under a new name starting in 2017. The team will launch a “Name the Team” contest on Opening Day, April 7. Submissions will be accepted through April 25th, when the top 6 possible team names will be unveiled. Fans can vote for their favorite name for two weeks via the team website. The new official name of the Double-A Mets will be revealed in October 2016.

The Delaware County Sheriff’s Department announced that there will be a fundraiser this Sunday in Walton, to support their K9 Unit, which has been an integral part of the County’s crackdown on Drug dealers in the County. The fundraiser will be held on Sunday at Danny’s Restaurant at 14 Gardiner Place in Walton from 12:00 noon until 7:00 PM, donations can be made by check to Delaware County Sheriff Tom Mills, with “K9 Drug Fund” in the memo box. Doctor Benham will see patients until the March 24th date, at which point all of his patients medical charts will be transferred and located at the UHS Primary care building at 44 Pearl Street, across for Tri Town regional Hospital. Patients wishing to have their medical records copied or sent to another health care provider should call Benham’s office at 563-7477 until march 24th, and to the UHS Sidney office at 561-2200 after that date.

State Police reported that KyLea Fortner and her sister Shaeleen Fitch-Fortner, who were reported as teen runaways in April of 2015, were found at 327 Torrance Avenue in Vestal. Both girls were turned over to the Broome County Family Services. State Police received and investigated numerous leads, information was developed which indicated that they were present at the Vestal address. State Police arrested 29 year old Amanda Hellman of Vestal, for 2nd degree Kidnapping. Hellman is a family acquaintance of the victims, she was arraigned in Town of Vestal Court & was remanded to the Broome County Jail without bail. Anyone with information can call 775-1241, The investigation is continuing.

The effort will begin Saturday, and run through Thursday, drivers can expect a number of sobriety checkpoints, additional DWI patrols, and underage drinking details during the campaign. State Police will also be ticketing distracted drivers who use handheld electronic devices. During the 2015 St. Patrick's Day weekend enforcement effort, Troopers made 264 arrests for DWI and issued more than 14,000 tickets.
With Daylight Savings Time approaching this weekend, The Firefighters Association of New York encourages all New Yorkers to test their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms and ensure their homes are properly protected against fire. Alarms with removable batteries should be replaced; residents possessing alarms equipped with sealed-in batteries should test the alarms to ensure they are in proper working condition. more information is available at fasny.com and nfpa.org.
