The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 30 year old Victor Quisquina of Virginia following the investigation of a property damage motor vehicle accident in the Town of Otego. Quisquina was charged with DWI and several related charges, and he did not possess a valid driver’s license, he was processed and released with Uniform Traffic Tickets/Appearance Ticket and is set to appear in court at a later date.

Hartwick College's Yager Museum will be open 11:30 am. to 4:30 pm. in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown is offering a program at 1:30 pm. Monday titled “MLK and Baseball,” The First Baptist Church of Cooperstown will host a memorial service today at 6 pm. The Broome County Martin Luther King Jr. Commission is holding a march starting at 5:30pm at the King Promenade at the Court Street Bridge next to Boscov’s in downtown Binghamton, followed by services at 6pm at the First Congregational Church on Main Street.

New York State recently announced more than $25.5 million in grants to support 29 water quality and climate resiliency projects in the State DEC’s Region 7. In Broome County, the Town of Chenango will receive $560,000 construct a salt storage facility, The Friends of the Upper Delaware River, receives $458,537 to conduct an in-stream stabilization and floodplain reconnection project to improve flood resiliency, aquatic habitat, and water quality in the Upper Delaware River Watershed, and Broome County will receive $400,000 to purchase a new vacuum truck to reduce sediment flow from catch basins discharging into the Minor Tributaries to Lower North Susquehanna River and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

Law Enforcement from all over attended the funeral for Onondaga County Sheriff's Lieutenant Michael Hoosock, was being held today in Syracuse, Lieutenant Hoosock was killed by gunfire along with Syracuse Police officer Michael Jensen on April 14th in Liverpool. Jensen's Funeral was held in his hometown of Rome on Saturday. The suspect accused of shooting the officers 33 year old Christopher Murphy was also killed.
The State Department of Labor is partnering with The Business Council, Empire State Development and the New York Association of Training and Employment Professionals in an annual Business Survey to get feedback on the state of the workforce and the business community's current needs. 33 year old Boyd Fenton was sentenced to to 7-15 years in prison, for setting fire to the horse barn at Tioga Downs on November 9th 2023. Fenton was sentenced in Tioga County Court on Friday, 30 racehorses died in the fire and a trainer was hurt when they tried to rescue horses from the flames.

14 individuals were arrested on charges ranging from graffiti, stealing a law enforcement body camera and disorderly conduct to obstruction and resisting arrest at the 4th annual “Smoke Weed Outside the Binghamton Police Station” event in downtown Binghamton. On Saturday, members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office assisted Binghamton Police Department in ensuring a safe public gathering on Hawley Street in front of Government Plaza. Some attendees began scrawling graffiti, blocking the flow of traffic on Hawley Street, Police began arresting participants for Obstructing Government Administration, disorderly conduct, petty larceny for stealing a law enforcement body camera and resisting arrest, all were processed and released on appearance tickets for the City of Binghamton Court.

Delaware County Public Health announced that a raccoon tested positive for rabies in the town of Delhi. This is the first animal in Delaware County to test positive for rabies in 2023, 1 dog was bitten by a the rabid raccoon, there were no human exposures. According to the owner of the exposed dog, the raccoon was not acting sick or appeared to be rabid. Vaccination records of the dog indicated the animal was not up to date on its rabies vaccinations & will have a 6-month quarantine following State Department of Health guidelines. Public Health recommends that pet owners take advantage of any of the free remaining rabies clinics in Delaware County, in Sidney on May 8th from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at the Sidney Fire Hall: 74 River Street, or in Hancock on May 22nd from 5:30 to 7:30PM at the Hancock Town Hall, at 661 West Main Street.

A Florida man has been sentenced to prison in a gas station skimming scheme in upstate locations. 34-year-old Yuny Hurtado Rodriguez is accused of working with others between April 2016 and July 2019, to build skimming devices inside gas pumps in Albany, Broome, and Montgomery counties, in order to use the stolen information to create fraudulent debit and credit cards that were used to obtain money orders, gift cards and cash. Hurtado-Rodriguez received 57 months in prison and will have to forfeit $606,000.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded March 18th to a 2 car accident with injuries on County Highway 26, in the Town of Colchester. 1 vehicle had left the lane of travel, crossed over the double yellow line, and struck an oncoming vehicle head on. 49-year-old Andras Kasuba of Brooklyn was charged with DWI, driving with a BAC greater than 0.08%, aggravated DWI, plus 3 counts of Assault & several other charges. The driver of the other vehicle and 1 passenger were transported by Lifenet to Albany Medical Center and a 3rd passenger was taken to Delaware Valley Hospital, Kasuba was released on tickets returnable to the Town of Colchester Court at a later date.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a vehicle Sunday, traveling 55 miles per hour in a 30 mile and hour zone on Meredith Street in the Village of Delhi. Deputies identified the driver as 29-year-old Toni Savino of Sidney, the investigation revealed that Savino’s driving privileges were suspended for failure to pay a driver’s responsibility assessment. Savino was arrested and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operator, Unlicensed Operator and Speeding, she was released and directed to appear in the Town of Delhi Court on a later date to answer the charges.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies’ observed a vehicle traveling 90 miles an hour in a 55 Mile an hour zone, on State Hwy 17 in the Village of Hancock on March 22nd. Deputies identified the operator as 24 year old Malik Oliver of East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, Oliver’s operating privileges in New York had been suspended for failure to answer a summons in Brooklyn & there was an active Arrest Warrant for Oliver, issued by the Johnson City Court. Oliver was charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle & Speeding, he was released and is to appear in the Village of Hancock Court to answer the said charges at a later date, he was turned over to the Johnson City Police Department on the Arrest Warrant.

The American Red Cross has resumed testing all blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies. Plasma from routine donations that have high levels of COVID-19 antibodies may be used as convalescent plasma to help meet the needs of COVID-19 patients with weakened immune systems. The Red Cross reports that blood supplies remains low & individuals are urged to schedule a blood or platelet donation. The next blood drive locally will be in Sidney today from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Sidney Elks Lodge at 104 River Street. The American Red Cross has resumed testing all blood, platelet and plasma donations for COVID-19 antibodies. Plasma from routine donations that have high levels of COVID-19 antibodies may be used as convalescent plasma to help meet the needs of COVID-19 patients with weakened immune systems. The Red Cross reports that blood supplies remains low & individuals are urged to schedule a blood or platelet donation. The next blood drive locally will be in Sidney today from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at the Sidney Elks Lodge at 104 River Street. Authorities in Pennsylvania are looking for 42 year old Jeffrey Johnson of Hancock. The Wayne County Drug Task Force announced that Johnson is facing charges of possession of weapons of mass destruction, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Risking Catastrophe, Possession of Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and a variety of game violations. Law Enforcement officials said that during their search for Johnson, they discovered white-tailed deer hanging in the backyard with no visible harvest tags, they also discovered deer & wild turkey parts, and the remains of black bear, they also discovered a pipe bomb, rifles, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia, Johnson did not have a hunting license and was not permitted to own firearms. The Scranton bomb squad was notified and detonated the bomb on location. Anyone with information about Johnson's whereabouts are asked to contact the Wayne County Communications Center at (570) 253-3109.

Firefighters from Oneonta, Franklin & other surrounding communities responded this afternoon to a fire at the Motel 88 at 340 Chestnut Street in Oneonta. The fire was under control in a little more than an hour, the cause of the fire is under investigation.

The State Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, September 22 at 5:30 PM, to present the design plans for improvements to pavement, sidewalks and drainage on State Route 7 in the Village of Otego. State Police are investigating the intentional burning of a pride flag outside of a home in Gilbertsville. The flag was hanging on the front porch of the home on Spring Street when it was set on fire sometime between September 9 and September 12. The fire also caused minor damage to the paint on the front porch. The homeowner also reported that another pride flag and a “Keep it Kind” lawn sign were stolen from the same property several weeks ago. It is unknown at this time if the incidents are related. Anyone with information is asked to New York State Police at (607) 561-7400.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a Walton resident June 19th on Delaware Street in the Village of Walton. Deputies observed a speeding vehicle traveling north on Delaware Street, they stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 28-year old Kassondra Pierce of Walton, A routine DMV inquiry revealed that Pierce’s driving privileges and vehicle registration were suspended due to an insurance lapse. Pierce was charged with unlicensed operation of a vehicle, speeding, operating an uninspected motor vehicle as well as other charges, her vehicle was towed from the scene & she was released to appear in the Village of Walton Court on a later date.

A New Jersey fugitive was arrested June 19th by Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies following an incident in the Town of Colchester. Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle in the East Branch Delaware River near the Corbett bridge, the Investigation revealed that a New Jersey couple were attempting to drive their pickup across the river when it became partially submerged and disabled in deep water, also a passenger, 30 year-old Brian Olin, of New Jersey was wanted by authorities in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court on a felony drug charge in September, 2019. Olin was charged with being a fugitive from justice and was later arraigned and remanded to the Delaware County Correctional Facility without bail pending his extradition by New Jersey.

State Police are asking for the public’s help in locating missing runaway, 16 year old Hannah Riley of Windsor. Police reported that Hannah never returned home from school last Thursday, April 15th, she was last seen wearing sweatpants, a pink sweatshirt with the word “Fly” on it, teal crocs and carrying a pink backpack with the word “Champion” on it, she did not have a cell phone with her. Anyone with information about Hannah Riley's location should contact New York State Police at Binghamton at 775-1241.

Police responded Saturday to a violent altercation in the Town of Barker, where Bonser allegedly broke into a residence & attacked a 71 year old resident, who was taken to Wilson Hospital. Bonser is accused of going to another residence & threatening the occupant with a knife & stealing his car. Bonser was spotted by a Broome County Deputy & Troopers, he was pursued until he crashed into another vehicle and a pole on Colesville Road. Bonser & the 87 year old driver in that crash were taken to Wilson Hospital. Bonser was processed at Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing.

Wang is accused of driving off of state route 28 in the town of Hartwick in front of the Tops Market & Striking a pedestrian last November, he then sped off. Wand was charged with operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs & alcohol he is free after posting $300,000 bond, he is due back in court may 24th.

The Murder Trial of Dylan Robinson of Oneonta will begin in Otsego County Court on April 14th Robinson is accused of murdering his father, along with several others, and then setting the house on fire in October of 2019 in Worcester.

The Sidney Police Department is partnering with the Delaware County Sheriff's Office and Chenango Health Network for a medication take back day. Anyone with any unused, outdated or unwanted medication can safely dispose of it at the date, time and place listed below. Note: no sharps or needles will be accepted. The event will be held at the River Street Fire Station from 2:00 to 7:00 PM today.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies announced that a traffic violation on West Main Street in the Village of Hancock Wednesday evening resulted in the arrest of New Jersey woman. Deputies observed a vehicle being operated without headlights. Deputies stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 28 year-old Lilly Cosme of Mount Holly, New Jersey; a routine driver’s license inquiry revealed that Cosme’s driving privileges were suspended in 2016. Cosme was arrested for aggravated unlicensed operation and operating an unregistered motor vehicle. Cosme’s vehicle was towed from the highway and she was released after being directed to appear in the Village of Hancock Court on a later date.

Chenango County Sheriff's Department arrested 2 Norwich for allegedly stealing 8 Catalytic Converters from cars at a Norwich Dealership. 35 year old Paul Knuth Jr. & 36 year old Samuel Furlong were charged with 3rd degree Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief & conspiracy, for removing the Converters selling them, causing about $11,000 damage to the vehicles, both were issued appearance tickets for town of Norwich Court at a later date.

Binghamton Police have arrested 28-year-old Macoley Saunders of Binghamton on charges of Attempted murder, criminal use of a firearm, Criminal possession of a firearm, Assault & Resisting arrest, plus charges relating to a domestic dispute in July. Saunders was located riding on the back of a motorcycle on Main Street in Johnson City. He led police on a pursuit on Route 17 going the wrong way in an attempt to evade police, Eventually, Saunders led police on a foot chase. A Binghamton K9 was able to take him down, a struggled ensued, and Saunders was able to fire one shot toward police officers before being disarmed. Saunders is currently being held in the Broome County Jail.

The Catholic Charities community food distribution will be held Today in Sidney. Those who would like to volunteer should arrive to the Sidney Fire department site on River Street by 8:30 AM Thursday, and the food giveaway begins at 10:00 AM.
