The Scoville-Meno Family of Dealerships announced the distribution of $10,000 to local charitable agencies. Scoville-Meno Auto Plaza in Owego presented a $2500 check to Tioga Rural Ministry; Scoville-Meno Chevrolet-GMC in Bainbridge presented a $2500 check to Catholic Charities of Chenango County; Scoville-Meno Chrysler-Dodge-Ram-Jeep in Sidney and Scoville-Meno Honda in Oneonta each presented $2500 checks to Catholic Charities of Delaware, Otsego, and Schoharie Counties.
NY State of Health, announced the Marketplace is now open for individuals looking to renew their health plan coverage for 2017. Current enrollees can update their account information, if needed, and enroll in a plan for coverage starting January 1st. The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network marked the American Cancer Society's 41st annual Great American Smokeout today by calling on State leaders to protect the health of residents by allocating $52 million to support the New York State Tobacco Control Program. This program supports those trying to quit smoking and provides non-smokers support so they never start. more than 480,000 deaths each year caused by tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke.
The Public Service Commission today endorsed Entergy Corporation's proposal to sell FitzPatrick Nuclear Power Plant in Oswego County to Exelon Corp. for $110 million. The state has authorized up to $7.6 billion in ratepayer subsidies to keep FitzPatrick and two other nuclear plants operational. Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo says nuclear power is preferable to coal or natural gas as New York transitions to renewable energy. Federal regulators also must also approve the transfer.

State Police arrested 64-year-old Leslie Bisco of Mount Vision for Aggravated DWI, with a B.A.C. result of .31% and other traffic violations. Police responded to the report of a vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway on State Route 205 in the Town of Laurens. Bisco was arraigned in the Town of Laurens court and was remanded to the Otsego County jail on $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 property bond, pending future court action.
Fire fighters from New Berlin, Norwich North Norwich Sherburne, Edmeston Garrettsville & Mount Upton responded to a fire at the Ken Tuttle Jr. farm on Balcom road early Wednesday morning. Fire investigators believe that the fire started due to an electrical short. Livestock was removed, no injurious were reported.
The 2nd annual "Glow Run" Benefit will be held this Saturday in Bainbridge, to raise funds though a 5K walk or run, and through the sale of t-shirts, for Mindy Ives Natoli of Oxford. Cancer Survivor & Sidney native Heather Bucalos organized the event, which is free to enter; she told WCDO that there will also be tables set up with information about cancer:

The event runs from 5:00 to 8:00 PM Saturday at General Clinton Park.
The 7th Annual Sidney Center Tractor parade will be held tomorrow through the hamlet. Those wishing to participate should begin lining up at 9:00 AM, the parade will begin at 12:00 Noon, owners of farm & garden tractors, collectible cars, doodlebugs and amore are invited to participate. The City of Oneonta & the municipal airport commission will hold Oneonta airport's 50th anniversary celebration Saturday, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at 391 Airport Road. There will be a variety of demonstrations, helicopters rides, & music throughout the event.

The State Department of Health has been notified of a laboratory confirmed case of mumps at SUNY Oswego and another at SUNY Plattsburgh. The case at SUNY Oswego is likely associated with a mumps outbreak in Long Island, where 45 cases of mumps have been confirmed. The source of the SUNY Plattsburgh case is under investigation. Students, who are susceptible to mumps because they have not been vaccinated because they have religious or medical exemptions, have been told they will be excluded from campus for 26 days after the last possible exposure if they do not get vaccinated. Mumps is a highly contagious viral disease characterized by fever, headache and swelling of the salivary glands. Mumps cannot be treated, however two doses of the MMR vaccine provide the best protection against the disease. More information about the mumps is available at health.ny.gov.
The Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross and Preferred Mutual will be hosting a Home Fire Preparedness canvassing event in Norwich. American Red Cross staff and Preferred Mutual volunteers will be visiting residents on Conkey Avenue, Sheldon Street, and Canasawacta Street, installing free smoke detectors for those homes in need. The event will be this Saturday, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, starting at the Norwich Fire Department at 31 East Main Street.
