State Police in Oneonta arrested 21 year old Earle Stage of Sidney for Criminal Possession of Marihuana. The arrest was the result of a criminal investigation conducted by State Police, Stage was released on an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Oneonta Court on April 23rd.

Delaware county fair officials announced that country music act Montgomery Gentry would be the headliners at the Fair on Saturday, August 17th at 7:00PM.  Danny Hodges of the Delaware county fair board of director’s explains how to get tickets:

90-year-old Betty Clark of Oneonta was hospitalized for suffering burns & smoke inhalation at a fire at 348 Chestnut Street in Oneonta Thursday morning.  Clark was taken to Fox Hospital in Oneonta, after she unsuccessfully attempted to rescue her pets.  Investigators determined that cardboard boxes were too close to a gas range in the kitchen, they caught fire at around 9:20 Thursday morning, and passing motorists reported the blaze and helped bring Clark to safety.  Firefighters from Oneonta, West Oneonta, Otego Franklin, Worcester & Sidney responded.

The Chenango county sheriffs department arrested 33-year-old Nathan Diamond of the town of Butternuts on an active arrest warrant.   Diamond was arrested by deputies following his release from the Chenango County Jail on unrelated charges, he was turned over to the Binghamton Police on a warrant for Possession of a Forged instrument and Falsifying Business records.

The Chenango County Sheriff's Office & State Police arrested a Town of Plymouth man on an active Bench Warrant.  33-year-old Todd Jackson was wanted on a Bench Warrant from the Town of Norwich Court for Failure to enroll in Chenango County Family Treatment Court. Jackson was taken into custody without incident and arraigned in the Town of Norwich Court, he was released following enrollment into Family Treatment Court.

Governor Cuomo today announced that $13.5 million is available through the NY-Sun initiative for projects aimed at reducing the overall cost of installing solar electric systems and streamlining the inspection and permitting process.  $10 million will support efforts to lower the overall cost of the systems and $3.5 million will fund a 2-year statewide effort to educate local officials and first responders. Binghamton City police are looking for a 33-year-old Matthew Ford of Binghamton, on a City Court Warrant for 4th degree grand larceny.   Ford is described as a white male, 5 foot 7, bald, 150 pounds with hazel eyes and glasses.  Anyone with information can contact the Binghamton Police Department Warrant Division at 772-7044.

Delaware County Deputies investigated a one-car fatal motor vehicle accident on County Hwy 2 in the Town of Andes Saturday.  58 year old Karen Lane of Warwick was traveling North on County Hwy 2 when her vehicle left the roadway and overturned several times, ejecting Lane from the vehicle.  Lane was not wearing a seatbelt; she was pronounced Lane dead at the scene.


The State police have been sending representatives around the state to explain the New York Safe Act gun laws that were passed a few weeks ago.  Assemblyman Cliff Crouch said that the bill was rushed through and changes are needed:

The new state gun law is being used as a model for the one that is being crafted by the Obama administration in Washington.


Over the last 4 to 5 years, there has been a dramatic turn by teens from alcohol abuse, to additional abuses of heroin and prescription pain pills.  Dave Ramsey of the Alcohol & drug abuse council of Delaware County said that a real danger exists when teens begin combining these drugs:

Organizers of the Delaware county fair announced the lineup today for entertainment at this year’s fair in Walton.   The Delaware County Fair Board announced that country music act Montgomery Gentry would return, on Saturday, August 18th.  Also on the bill will be country music acts Aaron Kelly and Lindsey Erin.


State DEC Commissioner Joe Martens addressed a joint session of the legislature in Albany this morning, regarding the future of Hydraulic fracturing in the Marcellus Shale in this region of the southern tier of the state.  Martens was expecting questions about the finding of the DEC regarding health issues, water & air concerns with regards to natural gas drilling.  The state moratorium on drilling has been in place for 4 ½ years, in that time the DEC has addressed thousands of comments from those both for & against the continuation of hydraulic fracturing.


There will be no Crappie Derby in Whitney Point again this year.   Organizers have cancelled the event because the ice is not thick enough for the 2nd straight year.  Broome County Department of Parks and Recreation officials measured the ice this morning and found out that there was only 8 inches of Ice, not enough for the event to be held safely.


Commerce Chenango and NBT Bank will host the 2013 Annual Economic Forecast Breakfast featuring keynote speaker Binghamton University president Harvey Stenger; the breakfast will take place on February 13th at The Silo Restaurant in Greene on February 13th.   Stenger will share an overview of the University and his efforts to enhance economic development in the Southern Tier.
