The Chenango County Historical Society and the Chenango County Historian’s Office will host their next Community Meeting tomorrow regarding the planning of the "America’s Potluck & Turtle Island” festival, Chenango County Historical Society Executive Director Jessica Moquin comments:

The Wednesday community dialogue will take place 5–6:30 pm. at the James S. Flanagan Research Center on the CCHS museum campus, located at 43 Rexford St. The goals for these conversations are to coordinate festival logistics and determine what additional planning needs to be accomplished for hosting a successful program. “America’s Potluck & Turtle Island” welcomes the participation of libraries, arts organizations, historical societies, and other community organizations in this historic community event. The free, family-friendly festival is scheduled to take place from 4 to 8 pm. on July 5 at the Chenango County Fairgrounds
The Deadline to register for the Gus Macker Basketball tournament in Norwich on July 11th and 12th, are only a few days away, organizer Tom Revoir comments:

Binghamton Police Department arrested 53 year old Stanley DeGroat of Binghamton and 47 year old Brett White of Binghamton, following a shooting. DeGroat was charged with Attempted murder, Criminal possession of a weapon, Criminal contempt & 4 counts of endangering the welfare of a child, White was charged with 8 counts of criminal possession of a weapon, following an incident Sunday, where DeGroat fired a shot that grazed the victim's hand, he fled the scene on a bicycle, he was located & taken into custody. Search warrants were obtained & executed at 2 locations, Officers found several rifles, shotguns, and 2 illegally possessed handguns, which led to White's arrest. Both face court action shortly, more charges may be forthcoming.
Attorney General Letitia James announced that the Trump administration dismissed its appeal of a court ruling striking down its blockade on wind energy development. In May 2025, James led a coalition of 17 other attorneys general in suing to block a presidential directive suspending all federal approvals for wind energy projects. In December 2025, the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts granted the coalition's motion for summary judgment, declared the directive illegal, and vacated the order.

New York Attorney General Letitia James called for the passage of the One Fair Price law, which would ban surveillance pricing in New York state. Surveillance pricing is when companies use algorithms to analyze consumers spending habits, and then determine the highest price they will pay for a product. James said that 2 neighbors could buy the same product at the same time but pay different prices, The package includes 2 bills, one for online shopping and one for traditional retail stores. The bills also ban the use of electronic shelf labels in grocery stores and pharmacies.
A heavy presence of emergency responders and volunteers from both New York and Pennsylvania are searching for 18-year-old Dalton Malmstrom, who was last seen leaving his residence near the Susquehanna River in the town of Nichols, at 7:45 am. Saturday, Family members told Police that he was not acting like himself prior to leaving. Dalton is described as a 5-foot-10 white male with dark hair and was last seen wearing a dark-colored shirt. Anyone who with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact the State Police at (607) 561-7400 immediately, a picture is posted at the State Police Facebook page.
