24 year old Elijah Burnside of Binghamton pleaded guilty to 2nd degree manslaughter in Broome County Court Monday, Burnside admitted to driving at a high rate of speed in Binghamton November 21, 2019, & hitting a vehicle driven by 70 year old Ronald Phetphonsy of Binghamton, resulting in his death. Burnside faces sentencing at a later date.

On Saturday, Sidney Police received a complaint of a robbery in progress at the Mirabito convenience store at 1 West Main Street, by a white female wearing a mask over the lower part of her face and a hooded sweatshirt. The employee handed $1,619 to the suspect who then fled the scene. No firearm or weapon was displayed during the incident. On Sunday, the suspect was taken into custody, 28 year old Alicia McAdams of Sidney was charged with 3rd degree Robbery & 4th degree Grand larceny, McAdams was arraigned in Village of Sidney Court, and she was released on her own recognizance to appear back in court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a one car Motor Vehicle Accident on Prospect Ave in the Village of Walton on October 17th. 31-year-old James Young of Walton was traveling north on Prospect Avenue when his vehicle exited the roadway and impacted a section of guidewire, Young’s ability to operate a motor vehicle was impaired by alcohol and drugs at the time of the collision. Young was charged with Failure Maintain Lane, Speed Not Reasonable and Prudent, Driving while Intoxicated, Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs, and Aggravated Leandra’s Law DWI for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs with a child less than 15 years of age in the vehicle. Young was released with tickets returnable to the Village of Walton Court at a later date.

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has had his Emmy award rescinded, as the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced that in light of the Attorney General's Letitia James's report, and Cuomo's resignation as Governor, His name and any reference to his receiving the award will be eliminated from International Academy materials going forward. Cuomo was awarded an Emmy last year for his daily COVID 19 briefings which were watched by millions around the world as New York State was an early Hot Spot for the virus.

State Police are looking for the public’s help in finding a man who stole vehicle parts recently. Police stated that on June 27th and July 19th, a man operating a white Chevrolet Silverado stole scrap brake rotors from Sidney Tire, also on June 27th, he was observed at Certified Auto in Oneonta, taking truck tires and 5 rims into the same white Chevrolet Silverado. The man is described as a white male with short darker hair, between 30 -40 years old, wearing a dark t-shirt, dark pants, dark shoes with white soles. Police in Cobleskill arrested 53 year old Raymond George for 1st degree manslaughter, for allegedly driving his vehicle into the Colonial Motel Tuesday, killing fellow Motel resident James Williams, following an argument.  Police reported that 2 dogs were also killed in the incident, 11 people were displaced due to the structural damage to the building.  George was arrested shortly after the incident nearby, Police determined that Williams had been sitting on a bench outside his room with his dogs, when he was struck; he was trapped in the wreckage and was pronounced dead at the scene. George was arraigned and ordered held without bail.  State Police, Schoharie County Sheriff's Department, the Schoharie County District Attorney’s Office and state corrections officials assisted with the investigation.
State Police are asking for the public’s assistance in locating 14-year-old Anjelia Sturtevant was last seen at her residence in the town of Roseboom on Monday night.    Anjelia was last seen wearing a pink camouflage pull over sweatshirt with a hood and may be carrying a white colored makeup bag with a gray pattern.  Anjelia is 5’ 2" and weighs approximately 190 pounds.  She has brown eyes and brown hair & multiple piercings. The State Assembly Oversight, Analysis & Investigation committee may soon be looking into the controversial issue of COVID deaths in nursing home and hospitals, following Attorney General Letitia James's report that the State Health Department undercounted the number of Nursing homes deaths, while state Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker has used the location of deaths in his statistics.  Assemblyman Joe Angelino is the ranking Republican on the Assembly Oversight Analysis & Investigation committee, and he said that the Attorney General's report only dealt with 10% if the state's nursing homes and more information is needed:

Also, adding to the confusion last year was where to attribute the death of a nursing home resident while in an ambulance; Assemblyman Angelino said that people just need to get the truth from their state government regarding the death of their loved ones that resided in Nursing homes.
State Police are searching for 33 year old Carlos Smith, Formerly of Davenport, after troopers discovered Deceased dogs & Puppies in a crat outside his residence in December.  Smith is accused of failing to provide sustenance & proper care to the dogs; he is described as a Black male, 5'9" tall, about 130 pounds with black & Brown Hair & brown Eyes.  Anyone with information should contact the state police at 432-3211 or crimetip@troopers.ny.gov.

A state judge has ordered New York’s Department of Health to release records about nursing home residents who died of COVID-19 in hospitals; the order comes just a week after a report by Attorney General Letitia James' office showed nursing home deaths in the state could have been under-counted by as much as 50%.  State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker has categorized deaths by location, so if a nursing home resident died in a hospital, it was listed as a hospital death.
State Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect wanted for a break-in at the Balsam Inn in the town of Pharsalia.  Surveillance video captured the male subject who is a heavier set, older white male wearing a grey long sleeve shirt, a hat and jeans.  He’s accused of breaking into the business on November 26th and taking neon signs, bar lights, a table and bar stools.  He is also caught on camera destroying several items, including ripping a camera off the wall; anyone with information should call Troop C in Sidney at 561-7400.
