Local state lawmakers reacted to Governor Cuomo's State of The State Address, which was delivered to a joint session in Albany Wednesday afternoon. Assemblyman Cliff Crouch comments:

The state budget will be due April 1st, current estimates predict a 4 to 6 billion dollar deficit built into that plan before is it even enacted.
The Oneonta Police Department received the final autopsy findings regarding the investigation into the December 2nd, 2017 death of 18-year-old Daniel Michaels of Dix Hills. The report determined the manner of death was accidental, due to mixed drug toxicity from amphetamines, ethanol, Xanax & Marijuana. The investigation into the Michael's death is continuing.
The Out Of the Woodwork Players will hold auditions for "The Wedding Singer" based on the Adam Sandler movie. Spokesman Will Drew comments:

The Sidney Historical Association & the Sidney Memorial Public Library will co-sponsor a presentation on the restoration of the Andrew Mann Inn on State Route 7 in Sidney. Current Owner Kurt Reigel will discuss the buildings history & his current restoration efforts, on January 17th at 7:00 PM in the Library's Smart Community Room.
Fire Fighters in Unadilla responded to a Fire at 42 Ontio Terrace in Unadilla Wednesday afternoon. The two story building was fully involved when crews arrived, Fire Fighters from Wells Bridge, Sidney, Franklin, Otego, Sidney Center responded, no injuries were reported, the investigation is continuing.
State Troopers initiated a pursuit of a suspect in Binghamton Tuesday afternoon. 36 year old James Giacalone of Glen Aubrey was wanted on an active warrant, he led police on a pursuit through the city's Southside, on Conklin Avenue, he crashed his vehicle into a utility pole, troopers tried to take Giacalone into custody, but he backed his vehicle away from troopers into a parking lot. Troopers approached the vehicle, Giacalone accelerated forward, striking one of the troopers, who shot Giacalone in the face, he then attempted to flee again. Giacalone was eventually taken into custody & was brought to Wilson Hospital and transferred to another hospital in Pennsylvania for treatment of gunshot wound to the face. The injured trooper was taken to Wilson Hospital for leg and facial injuries and was treated and released. State Police are asking the public for any witnesses or information related to this incident at 775-1241.

The Oneonta Police Department is investigating the death of State University student Daniel Michaels of Dix Hills Saturday, preliminary reports suggest that a combination of drugs & alcohol led to a cardiac arrest, which led to the death the 18-year-old. Michaels was found passed out at a fraternity at 34 Academy Street in Oneonta early Saturday, he was taken to Fox Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. The full toxicology report is not expected for another 4 weeks, the investigation is ongoing. State University of Oneonta announced that they are offering additional counseling services to students affected by the Michael's death.
Tri Town Regional Hospital in Sidney will have a new name as of January 1st, following the recent decision to have the hospital affiliated with Fox Hospital in Oneonta, rather than Bassett hospital in Cooperstown. State regulations stipulate that a satellite emergency department must be within 35 miles of an acute care facility, Fox is about 23 miles from the Sidney facility. The new name will be A.O. Fox Hospital- Tri Town Regional Campus; services that are available will be unchanged with the new name.
New York Farm Bureau & the Food Bank Association of New York State announced that New York farmers donated 9 million pounds of fresh food and farm products this year through the month of November. 7 million meals were provided to New Yorkers in need, and with less than a month to go in 2017, the number is expected to climb even more during the holiday season.
NYSEG reported that 1,193 customers without power in Delaware County, due to a utility pole that caught fire in Delancey this morning. The majority of the power outages were reported in Delancey, Delhi and Hamden areas. NYSEG reported that crews have restored power to those affected in Delaware & Otsego Counties.
Governor Cuomo announced the 76West Clean Energy Competition is now accepting applications from clean energy companies for its 3rd round of funding. 76West is part of the "Southern Tier Soaring," strategy to generate economic development & NYSERDA administers the 76West Competition, which will accept applications through April 16th. 20 finalists will be selected and brought to the Southern Tier next spring to meet with prospective local partners, industry leaders, potential sources of funding, and other resources within the region. 6 winners will receive a total of $2.5 million in prizes; the Winners will be announced later next year.
Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 37-year-old Tabatha Pusen of Kirkwood Sunday, on charges of DWI, unlawful possession of marijuana & various traffic violations following a traffic stop in the Town of Walton. Pusen was additionally charged with speeding at 70 miles an hour in s 55 zone, operating with an out headlight, She was released on tickets returnable to Walton Town Court at a later date.
Long time Otsego County Area entrepreneur Eugene Bettiol Sr. passed away at the age of 85. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 10 from 1:00 to 4:00 PM. at Foothills Performing Arts Center in Oneonta. Contributions may be made to the Foothills Performing Arts Center.
The Commerce Chenango Business After Hours Holiday Celebration will be held today at the Norwich NBT Bank. Participants are asked to help Catholic Charities "Roots and Wings" food pantry by bringing a non-perishable food item, NBT is also accepting new, unwrapped toys for the local Toys-for-Tots Program.
The Unadilla Chamber of Commerce will have a regular meeting on today, beginning at 5:30 pm at The Meeting Place, 187 Main Street, Unadilla. All directors and members urged to attend.

The Sidney Main Street revitalization Project is wrapping up the work on one side of Main Street this week, except for the planting of trees perennials & grass that will be planted in the spring. Ian Law of Place Alliance explains:

The other side of Main Street will have construction begin in the spring, with plans calling for that side to be finished in time for the Hometown Day Parade in June.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 37-year-old Timothy Heady of Smyrna, fur unlawful manufacture of Methamphetamines. Heady was arrested as deputies were conducting a follow up in reference to a burglary in the area; Deputies were then assisted by the State Police Crime Scene Contamination Unit. Heady was arraigned in the Village of Sherburne Court and was remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on cash bail; he will reappear in the Town of Smyrna Court at later date.
State Police arrested 65-year-old Joaquin Delgado of the Bronx, for Aggravated DWI, with a B.A.C. result of .20% and other traffic violations, after troopers responded to a report of a car in a ditch on Phillips Odell Road in the town of Guilford. Delgado was not injured; he was issued tickets returnable to the town of Guilford Court on January 18, 2018.
Michael Rodriguez of Pennsylvania was charged with reckless endangerment & assault, for firing allegedly firing a weapon at the Galleria Mall in Wallkill on November 26th. A mother & 12 year old son were injured in the shooting, Rodriguez will not be arrested on any weapons charges as he had legal permits to carry the weapon in both Pennsylvania & new York.
Fire investigators have ruled that it was static electricity set fire to a flammable liquid during the manufacturing process that led to a fire at the Verla Cosmetics factory in New Windsor on November 20th. 1 person was killed & 125 suffered a variety of injuries at the plant that employed 225 people.
The Broome County Legislature has tabled a vote on accepting state funding for the proposed opioid addiction center being opened in the former Broome Developmental Center. The State had offered 2.7 Million dollars toward start up costs at the facility, which was scheduled to open early next year. Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare is scheduled to operate the facility.
51-year-old John Gomes of Cohoes has been charged with reckless endangerment & arson, for allegedly trying to recreate a smithing technique he saw on television that led to a fire that destroyed 3 buildings & damaged 18 others last Thursday in Cohoes. 1 firefighter was injured in the Thursday afternoon fire, which spread rapidly from Gomes's backyard due to 20 to 30 mile an hour wind gusts.
