Otsego County Department of Health reported that a bobcat in the town of Unadilla tested positive for Rabies Saturday. Officials said that 1 dog was exposed but was vaccinated, it received a booster shot & was treated for wounds suffered from the bobcat. 4 people are also undergoing post rabies exposure treatment, DEC officials were looking a for 2nd possibly rabid bobcat in Unadilla. The renovations at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown are complete after a multi-million dollar construction project, today state & local leaders held a ribbon cutting to re-open the 100+ year old baseball field, including local State Senator Peter Oberacker:

National Baseball Hall of Fame President Josh Rawitch said that 64% of all players inducted in the Hall of Fame, have played on Doubleday Field.


The U.S. Attorney's Office announced that Dennis Nelson was sentenced to additional prison time, as he was found guilty of sending threatening letters to Judge Thomas McAvoy, Then Congressman Anthony Brindisi & US Senator Chuck Schumer, while in State Prison on another charge. Nelson threatened to blow up the Courthouse in Binghamton, Nelson was sentenced to 7 more years in prison and 3 years of supervised release after his incarceration.


Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 49 year old Edward Williamson for Burglary, Grand Larceny, Criminal Mischief and Conspiracy. Williamson was arrested following an investigation of a burglary that occurred in November 2022 in the Town of New Berlin. Williamson was arrested at the Oneida County Correctional Facility, where he was being held on unrelated charges, he was transported back to Chenango County for arraignment & was remanded back to the Oneida County Correctional Facility, he will return to Chenango County at a later date.


The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office has arrested 35 year old Brian Worden of Oneonta following a disturbance call. Worden is accused of possessing a controlled substance when police showed up to a disturbance in the Meadows Office Complex Parking lot, Worden was arrested & was issued an appearance ticket.

State Police BCI unit arrested 36 year old Ian Rotunno of Fenton, Thursday for multiple counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon. Rotunno was found in possession of a loaded and illegal rifle when located by law enforcement after a 24 hour manhunt. An investigation revealed that the weapon is a “ghost gun”, plus he is accused of possessing 2 magazines that are not New York State SAFE Act compliant and were loaded with armor piercing ammunition. Rotunno was transported to Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing.


An Air Quality Alert was issued today as smoke from wildfires in Western Canada continues to negatively affect air quality. Health Officials recommend that those with breathing issues who may spend time outside, should wear an N95 or KN95 Face mask. Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 39 year old Rick Donnelly after he failed to comply and stop his vehicle after he drove his vehicle in a reckless manner, driving at high rates of speed, onto private property, and damaged private property with his vehicle. Donnelly was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Reckless Endangerment, and Criminal Mischief, Donnelly was arraigned and remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility on $5,000.00 cash bail.


Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 32 year old Megan McGowan of Oxford on 2 counts of Overdriving, torturing and injuring animals & failure to provide proper sustenance after an investigation into an animal complaint. McGowan was charged after it was found that there was a dog on her property that did not have any food or water and was not being cared for properly, Deputies also found a deceased dog in a shed that died from lack of care. McGowan was released on an appearance ticket for Town of Oxford Court at a later date.


The American Red Cross has 2 more blood drives today, as blood supplies remain critically low. 1 drive will be held in Walton from 12:00 Noon until 5:00 PM at the Watershed Agricultural Council, at 44 West Street, another will be held in Cooperstown from 12:30 to 5:30 PM at the Clark's Sports Center, 124 County Highway 52. The United States Attorney's Office in the Northern District announced that 51 year old Dennis Nelson, who is currently incarcerated in a Federal Prison in Massachusetts, pleaded guilty to mailing Bomb Threats in 2018 and 2019, while incarcerated in State of New York correctional facilities to U.S. District Judge Thomas McAvoy in Binghamton, then Congressman Anthony Brindisi & and to United States Senator Charles Schumer. Nelson faces a term of imprisonment of 84 months, a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of up to 3 years when sentenced.


Broome County District Attorney Mike Korchak announced that Philip Garcia of Endicott, pleaded guilty to felony Arson. Garcia admitted that on May 2, 2021, in the Village of Endicott, he intentionally damaged property by setting a fire on a stove inside a Hillside Court apartment and the interior of a motor vehicle, by lighting objects inside the car on fire, after a domestic dispute with a 31-year-old female in the Village. The fire in the apartment was put out by residents with minimal smoke damage. The Endicott Fire Department responded to the scene and quickly extinguished the car fire. The vehicle sustained interior damage. Garcia, who has a criminal history dating back to 1992, will be sentenced to 5 years in New York State prison followed by 2 1/2 years post release supervision on June 9, 2023.


American Association of Retired Persons released a statement applauding 19th District Congressman Marc Molinaro for his stance on Social Security and Medicare. Congressman Molinaro has vowed to protect Social Security and Medicare and oppose cuts to the programs from fellow Congressional republicans, Molinaro said in recent interviews that cuts to Social Security and Medicare are off the table.

Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the nomination of Dr. James McDonald to serve as Commissioner of the New York State Department of Health. Dr. McDonald is originally from Cohoes and received his bachelor's degree from Siena College. He joined the New York State Department of Health in July of 2022, serving as medical director of the Department's Office of Public Health. He later was appointed Interim Director of the Center for Community Health and began serving as Acting Commissioner of Health on January 1 of this year.


The Otsego County Sheriff’s Office arrested 24 year old Garyn Huntley of Oneonta following an attempt to flee police during a traffic stop on March 20th in the City of Oneonta. Huntley was charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of Motor Vehicle, Failure to Obey Police Officer, Operating a Motor Vehicle without Insurance, Speeding among several other charges, he was released on an appearance ticket for Oneonta Court on April 6th.
