Funeral Services were held this morning in Utica, for long time area Congressman Sherwood Boehlert. Boehlert served as the Oneida County Executive before running for Congress, where he served for 24 years before retiring in 2006. Boehlert is survived by his wife Marianne, 4 children, and 6 grandchildren, Boehlert was 84.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies responded to Thursday Betty Brook Road in the Town of Kortright to investigate a complaint of property damage reportedly caused by cattle. The Investigation revealed that loose cattle owned by 60-year-old Joseph Wyble, Jr., had caused damage to victim’s lawn on that day and at least 3 previous occasions. On Friday, Deputies located and arrested Wyble and charged him with criminal mischief for recklessly causing damage to the property of another after having been previously warned by Deputies. Wyble was issued an appearance ticket directing him to appear in the Town of Kortright Court on a later date to answer that charge.
41 year old Jeremie Hoyt of Davenport appeared in federal court last week on charges that he sexually exploited a child. Hoyt is accused of producing a sexually explicit photograph and video of a 14-year-old child, and distributing the image and video on the Internet to other users on a messaging application. Hoyt was ordered to be held pending a trial, if convicted, Hoyt faces a mandatory minimum term of imprisonment of 15 years and a maximum term of imprisonment of 30 years, a maximum fine of $250,000, and a term of supervised release of between 5 years and life.
Otsego County Department of Health reported its 69th death last week, with 115 active cases and 4 people hospitalized. The 7-day rolling average positive rate was 2.8%.

The State Health Department reported over 180,000 COVID tests were reported Saturday, with over 4300 positive tests, a positivity rate now down to 2.39%. Hospitalizations were down to about 2300, patients in ICU beds declined to 548 & patients on ventilators are down to 317, there were 31 deaths & 55,911 Vaccine Doses were administered Saturday.
Delaware County reported 46 new COVID cases Thursday & Friday, with a positivity rate over 9%, they reported 185 active cases, 363 quarantined 7 hospitalized & 54 deaths. Just over 50% of Delaware County residents are vaccinated, while 77% of positive cases were unvaccinated. 25% of the cases are school aged children & school district employees.
Chenango County Sheriff's Office announced that 13 year old Charlotte Heier of the Town of Smithville has been located successfully. The Office announced this morning that Charlotte was located in good health, & they thanked the public for help with the successful investigation.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, Cortland County DA’s office and State Police announced that former Pharsalia Town Supervisor Dennis Brown was sentenced to serve 2 to 3 years in a state prison. Brown pleaded guilty for 2nd degree Grand Larceny, for stealing $240,000 in public funds, he was ordered to pay $240,000, and he has already paid $125,000. Brown charged personal items on the town’s credit card to pay for groceries, vacations, clothes, jewelry, home utilities, and work on his property.

Norwich City Police arrested 45 year old Bernie Infante of Norwich for criminal possession of a weapon Thursday, after a neighbor of Infante called police saying that he did not feel safe following a confrontation. City Police stated that Infante pointed a shotgun at officers, then turned & shot through a wall into the neighbor's apartment, the bullet grazed the neighbor, who denied medical attention. Infante attempted to escape but was apprehended by officer, he was taken to Chenango Memorial Hospital for a medical evaluation & was being held pending arraignment, more charges may be filed.
Governor Cuomo today announced the state has awarded $10 million in aid to localities statewide to support emergency response operations. The grants will allow municipalities in 57 counties and New York City to make improvements to their 9-1-1 response and emergency service dispatch operations. Locally Chenango County gets over $188,000, Delaware County $142,000 & Otsego County over $205,000.
State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli today announced that former Pharsalia Town Supervisor Dennis Brown pleaded guilty to stealing $240,000 in public funds and must now pay full restitution. Brown pleaded guilty today in Chenango County Court in Norwich to 2nd degree Grand Larceny, he must pay $240,000 in restitution, of which he has already paid $125,000, and faces a potential state prison term at his sentencing on September 17th.

34 year old Jason Johnson, who was wanted since Wednesday Night in connection with shooting a New York State Trooper, was taken into custody at about 4:30 Thursday afternoon in the town of Colesville. State Police & Broome County Deputies were sent on a Welfare check of an individual Wednesday night at about 8:30PM, Johnson is accused of Shooting Trooper Becky Seager, who suffered a non-life threatening hip injury & was treated & released at Wilson Hospital. Johnson was arraigned this morning at Broome County Central Arraignment and Processing on 2 counts of Attempted Murder, he was remanded to the Broome County Jail on no bail. Other charges are pending.
The Chenango County Health Department is hosting a Free Johnson & Johnson Vaccine Clinic at the Norwich Firehouse During the Chicken Barbecue on Saturday from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. The Clinic is first come first serve, 100 doses are available. Participants must be 18 years or older for this type of vaccine & they will need to complete a health screening form before the shot. Binghamton Police Detectives arrested 19 year old Antonio
Jones of Taftville, Connecticut for 2nd degree Attempted Murder & 2nd
degree Assault in connection with the March 17th Shooting incident at 66
Chenango Street. Jones is accused of
participating in the shooting incident, into a parked car; he missed the
intended male target and shot a female passenger, who suffered non-life
threatening injuries. Jones was held in
Binghamton City Police Lock-Up for arraignment in City Court, he was remanded
to the Broome County Jail. Anyone with information is asked to contact
Binghamton Police at 772-7080.

The State DOT announced that construction is resuming on the
$152 million 2nd phase of the 1-81/Route 17 Prospect Mountain reconstruction
project in the city of Binghamton. The project is reconstructing nearly 9 miles
of highway, replacing bridges and reconfiguring ramps to significantly improve
traffic patterns in one of the Southern Tier's busiest corridors. The
improvements will also enable the DOT to request federal designation of a
4-mile stretch of Route 17 as I-86. The
project is reconstructing the interchange of I-81 Exit 4 and Route 7 by replacing
the viaduct bridge over the Railroad tracks and Broad Avenue. Additionally, 2
new bridges are being built over the Chenango River in the city of Binghamton.
The Work is scheduled to be complete by December 2020.
Fire damaged the Leatherstocking Market and Fuel store at
134 Delaware County Route 11 near Pindars Corners this morning. Several area fire companies responded, no
injuries have been reported; the cause of the fire is under investigation, the
owners hope to have the store re-opened as soon as possible.
April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month &
Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration, for a high-visibility enforcement effort today
through April 15th. Law enforcement officers will intensify their efforts to
stop texting and other forms of distracted driving by issuing citations for
distraction violations. The “U Drive U Text U Pay” campaign aims to spread the
message about the dangers of distracted driving, and to remind drivers of the
consequences of their distracted actions.
According to NHTSA, between 2012-2017, nearly 20,000 people died in
crashes involving a distracted driver. In fact, there were 3,166 people killed
in motor vehicle crashes involving distracted drivers in 2017.
The annual Big Wheels Golf Tournament, held at the Delhi
College Golf Course, will take place on Friday, May 10th this year. The event serves as a primary fundraiser for
programs and services which provide assistance to Delaware County senior
citizens. The entry fee this year will
be $65, Registrations for the tournament can be obtained by contacting the
Delaware County Office for the Aging at 607-832-5750.

additional $20,000 a year. Brown was
charged with 2nd degree Grand Larceny, scheming to defraud, defrauding the
government, corrupting the government and public corruption for allegedly using
the town's credit card for vacations in Myrtle Beach and New York City, fees
for PayPal, Amazon and iTunes, and designer handbags, liquor and cooking
classes, & his home telephone, internet and electric bills. The Comptroller’s inquiry into Pharsalia
began with an audit in 2018 which led to the criminal investigation.
The Greene Fire Department responded to a small fire at
Raymond Corporation in Greene. The
preliminary investigation reported that a welding smoke unit caught fire, no
one was injured, employees returned to the building at about 9:30 pm. The
Greene Fire Department was assisted by the Oxford, Coventry Fire Departments.

8:00 at the Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich. More information about the

Local sales tax collections across New York grew 3.3% in the first 6 months of 2017, according to a report released today by State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli. Through June, local collections totaled $8 billion compared to $7.8 billion during the same period last year. DiNapoli’s report revealed local sales tax collections in several regions outpaced the statewide average, including Southern Tier at 4.5%, Central New York at 4.4% & the Mohawk Valley at 4.3%.
Governor Cuomo announced that Brooklyn's Threes Brewing Company earned top honors at the first-ever New York State Craft Beer Competition, winning the Governor's Excelsior Cup. Threes Brewing earned gold in the Light Lager category and moved on to win Best in Show. Entries were submitted from 143 breweries, with Gold, Silver, and Bronze medal winners awarded in 20 categories. Numerous crews from Delaware & surrounding counties are searching for 60-year-old Wayne Lamicela of Arkville, who was reported missing while hiking on Tuesday. Governor Cuomo announced that Brooklyn's Threes Brewing Company earned top honors at the first-ever New York State Craft Beer Competition, winning the Governor's Excelsior Cup. Threes Brewing earned gold in the Light Lager category and moved on to win Best in Show. Entries were submitted from 143 breweries, with Gold, Silver, and Bronze medal winners awarded in 20 categories. Governor Cuomo today announced $1 million in funding available to law enforcement agencies to video record criminal interrogations. The grants will be available through the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), for either the purchase and installation of video recording equipment for police departments and sheriffs' offices that have not yet implemented the practice, or allow agencies to upgrade older equipment to ensure it functions properly. 44-year-old Samuel Parrotti of Lisle was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 5 years in federal prison, for 4-area bank Robberies last year. Parrotti admitted that he stole more than $37,000 in 4 separate heists in Binghamton, Whitney Point, Scranton & Sayre in July & August of last year.
A group of people have been walking since Friday along state route 7 from Albany to Binghamton, to deliver a petition to the federal court house to judge Thomas McEvoy in Binghamton on July 23rd. the 133 mile “Journey For Justice” is sponsored by Project Salam, in support of Yassin Aref of Albany, whose supporters claim that he was entrapped through the efforts of the FBI in 2006, & convicted as a terrorist, and are seeking his release from prison. Recently, Aref’s attorneys filed for documents through a “Freedom of Information Law” request & learned about secret evidence used to misidentified Aref as an Al-Qaeda agent. State Troopers in Oneonta arrested 35-year-old Dennis Brown of Richmond, Virginia, for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. The arrest resulted from a traffic stop on State Route 28 in the Town of Milford; Brown was issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Milford Court on August 6th.

The incidence of confirmed rabies cases of raccoons in the tri county area continues to increase. Free rabies clinics for dogs, cats and ferrets are taking place at the Coventry Town Garage today from 5:30 to 6:30pm, Wednesday at the Morris Fire Department from 6 to 8pm and Thursday, at the New Berlin Fire Station from 7 to 8:30pm.

The president of the NAC Entertainment & The Broadway Theater league Albert Nocciolino, was on national Television, winning a Tony Award for his role as one of the producers of Cindy Lauper’s “Kinky Boots” which was chosen as the best Musical. Nocciolino told WCDO News how he became involved:

State police charged Davenport town supervisor, Dennis Valente with felony operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol content of .08 or more. Valente was arraigned in Davenport Town Court and was released, pending future court action on June 25th.
State police arrested 25 year old Jordan Finch of Bainbridge for 1st degree reckless endangerment, 1st degree unlawful imprisonment, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal use of a firearm, menacing, criminal obstruction of breathing & 2nd degree harassment. Finch faces court action on the charges shortly.

State police arrested 44-year-old Imre Szabo of Afton for possessing a sexual performance by a child. Szabo is accused of possessing child sexual materials; he was issued a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
Binghamton City police are searching for 37-year-old Levelle Marton of Binghamton on an arrest warrant for 2nd degree strangulation. Martin is described as black, 5 feet 11 inches tall and 220 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. Anyone with information can contact the Binghamton Police Warrant Division at 772-7044.
The American Red Cross announced that on June 17th at 5:30pm at Remliks in downtown Binghamton, the “Heroes for the American Red Cross” campaign will kick off. The campaign has businesses, school clubs, church groups, civic organizations and individuals pledge to raise at least $1,000 for the American Red Cross Southern Tier Chapter, for disaster relief, assistance for fire victims, emergency military communications, first aid, CPR and other lifesaving classes. US Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Chuck Schumer announced that the village of Morris has received a Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant for $2,475,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Loan and Grant Program. The funding will be for the construction of a new water storage tank, replace old water mains and install water meters. The old water tank was well over 100 hundred years old.
The nonprofit Disabled American Veterans Mobile Service Office will be visiting various communities around the state in the coming weeks, to provide the counseling and claim filing assistance. The Mobile Service Office is free to all veterans and members of their families, it will be in Oneonta on Thursday, June 27th from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM at DAV Oneonta Chapter #200, 279 Chestnut Street.
The Oneonta water department will be flushing hydrants in the river street area this afternoon and again later tonight. Residents may notice discolored water or low pressure; those with questions can call 432-2100.
