41 Year old Trevor Metterhauser of Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to attempted aggravated sexual abuse, aggravated sexual abuse, sexual exploitation of children, and multiple counts of possession of child pornography. The case involves 2 small children, 1 in upstate New York & the Other in Texas. Metterhauser admitted that he conspired with Brandon Whitford to sexually exploit a 4-year-old girl in New York, In December 2022, he traveled to Texas to sexually assault a 2-year-old child and to record that abuse. When Metterhauser was arrested he had multiple electronic devices that contained the sexual assaults; and child pornography he obtained from the internet.


State Police today announced that they issued 13,036 tickets statewide during this year’s Thanksgiving holiday traffic enforcement period. Troopers conducted sobriety checkpoints, deployed DWI patrols, and ticketed drivers who were using handheld electronic devices. Troopers arrested 247 people for DWI and investigated 1,277 crashes, including 2 fatal crashes. In Troop C, there were 1232 ticketed, including 21 DWI Arrests, 434 for speeding, 41 for distracted driving & 35 violators of the "Move Over" Law.

Also, a new fundraising program has been instituted called "Shelter Saviors" where 6 area businesses will match donations for the shelter in December & that will include this Sunday's Pawstruck fundraiser.


Norwich Police responded Tuesday to the report of an Emu running loose on Chenango Avenue. The Emu was eventually contained to a fenced in yard on Francis Avenue, which kept the bird away from downtown traffic. The owner was notified, RTG of Norwich assisted in the effort and the emu was successfully brought inside the owner's trailer, where it was returned to its home in Bainbridge.

State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald declared that influenza is now prevalent in New York State, health care personnel who have not received this year’s flu vaccine MUST wear masks in areas where patients may be present. The Department has a total of 17,783 positive flu cases, Outside of New York City, week-over-week flu cases are up 114%, to 3,619. Hospitalizations doubled to 413 across the State. Attorney General Letitia James won a court order preventing the federal government from enforcing a provision in the so-called "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" that would strip Planned Parenthood of its Medicaid funds, jeopardizing health care for millions of low-income patients across the country. Attorney General James joined a coalition of 21 other attorneys general and the governor of Pennsylvania in suing the Department of Health and Human Services to block the provision, The United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts issued a ruling granting the coalition's motion for a preliminary injunction, ordering HHS to continue paying Medicaid funds to all states and clinics in the coalition.

State Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating 25 year old Alora Stott of Oneonta, she is wanted on active warrants for failing to appear for scheduled court dates at Sidney Village Court & Chenango County Court. Stott failed to appear in Sidney on charges of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument & Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, from a January 2025 arrest where Stott was in possession of a stolen checkbook and multiple forged and stolen checks. Stott is also wanted by Chenango County Court for failing to appear on charges of Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, where she & 3 others were found in possession of a stolen Pickup Truck, Anyone with information regarding Stott’s whereabouts is asked to contact State Police at (607) 561-7400.

Bassett Healthcare Network announced the elimination of around 100 positions, the majority were administrative. Patient care would not be affected by the layoffs, which represent 2% of their total workforce.


On Saturday, from 10 am. to 2 pm. the Norwich City Police Department will participate in the Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day event. The DEA and Norwich Police will collect tablets, capsules, patches, and other solid forms of prescription drugs, they can NOT accept syringes, sharps, and illicit drugs. Liquid products, such as cough syrup, should remain sealed in their original container. The Norwich collection will be at the rear of the City of Norwich Police Department at 18 East Main Street, Norwich. The Sidney American Legion announced that they will hold a fundraiser to help the victims of recent flooding in North Carolina. The event will be this Saturday from 1:00 to 6:00 PM at the Legion on Union Street, there will be dinner & music.

36 year old Justin Baker of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court Monday and pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Baker admitted that he had possessed methamphetamine with the intent to sell in the Village of Sidney. Judge Hubbard ordered the Delaware County Probation Department to conduct a pre-sentencing report, it is expected that Baker will be sentenced to 2 1/2 years in state prison to be followed by one year of post release supervision, he will likely be enrolled in the Lakeview Rehabilitation Program as part of his state prison sentence.


Otsego County Sheriff's Office arrested 53 year old Donald Lane of Portlandville for being in violation of the State Sex Offender Registry. Lane was charged with Sex Offender Failure to Update Change of Address, following an investigation that revealed that Lane relocated away from his residence in excess of the 10 day grace period required for sex offenders to update an address change. Lane was located by the Canajoharie Police Department and was turned over to the Otsego County Correctional Facility on an unrelated matter. On March 11th 2024, the defendant was formally charged with the above charges and issued an Appearance Ticket returnable to the Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

Chenango County Health Department reported that a raccoon located in the Town of Preston tested positive for Rabies by the State's Wadsworth Laboratory. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 28 year old Kenneth Dillman of Stamford for Aggravated Unlicensed Operator of a Motor Vehicle and Operation of a Motor Vehicle with an Ignition Interlock device following a traffic stop in the Town of Harpersfield. Deputies observed Dillmann operating a motor vehicle, they knew that Dillmann had 22 suspensions on his revoked license, A traffic stop was conducted, Dillmann was charged & was issued traffic tickets and Appearance Tickets for Town of Harpersfield Court at a later date.

State Comptroller’s Office announced that 2 Otsego County area businessmen have been indicted for a $1 million Medicaid transportation fraud scheme. 46-year-old Philip Mtui and 47-year-old Mbaga Kaiza were partners in Phinaliz Communications, they allegedly sought and received payments for rides that did not actually happen and billed multiple times for rides that did occur. This resulted in $1 million being stolen from Medicaid, they were charged with 1st Degree Grand Larceny & they face court action on May 6.
