Binghamton Police responded Tuesday to a report of a male stabbed downtown, a 19-year-old male victim had sustained 2 significant stab wounds; one to his back and one in the upper leg, he was transported to a local hospital for treatment & emergency surgery. 2 suspects had fled the scene in a white sedan. 1 suspect was identified as 19 year old Christopher Ricketts of Binghamton, the 2nd suspect & driver of the vehicle in question was identified as 18 year old Jeremiah Coqmard of Johnson City. Both were charged with 1st degree Assault both were arraigned in Binghamton City Court and remanded to the custody of the Broome County Correctional Facility, anyone with information is asked to contact the Binghamton Police Detective Bureau by phone at 607-772-7080.

Walton Police arrested former Walton Teacher Eric Scofield who allegedly violated an Order of Protection by being on school property. Scofield was located on the property of the Walton High School, Scofield was charged with 4 counts of Criminal Contempt, he was arraigned & was being held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. Scofield was ordered to stay away from the district after an investigation for engaging in improper communications with students.

Rail Fans are waiting for the Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014, the world's largest operating steam locomotive, to move through the region in the coming days. as part of a historic coast-to-coast tour to celebrate America's 250th anniversary. The tour includes a Fourth of July celebration in Philadelphia, rail fans can see the train pass through Friday, in Sayre Pennsylvania at about 9:00 AM, in Owego, between 10:45 to 11:15 AM and then it will depart from Binghamton Saturday, June 13 at 7:30 AM. Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith & Delaware County Sheriff DuMond will hold a press conference Tuesday at 10:30 to announce the conviction of Brent Trimbell of Hobart, who was the high school coach that was alleged to have sexually abused two female victims while serving in his position and previously raping a third victim. Trimbell had also bee arrested on Federal charges in connection with this investigation.

23 year old Nicolas Arias of Binghamton was arrested after brandishing a knife and threatening corrections officers during a routine transport in Binghamton. On June 2nd, 2 corrections officers were transporting an an inmate after leaving Supreme Court in Binghamton, the Officers were confronted by an irate male who began berating and threatening them & pulling out a knife Officers were able to leave the scene, Arias was found and arrested the next day, for 2 Counts of Menacing a Peace Officer, Obstructing Governmental Administration, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Arias arraigned and was released on his own recognizance.

6 people are running for State Comptroller this year, including long time incumbent Tom DiNapoli, Republican Joseph Hernandez is a scientist & business man, and he wrapped up the Republican nomination for the position on the November Ballot, he toured the Southern Tier today & stopped at WCDO and said that one of his top goals is to crack down on fraud and abuse:

The Binghamton Police Department & the Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that after the death of 45 year old Peter Bennedum Friday at an area Hospital, the investigation is now being handled as a homicide. The 4 juveniles were previously charged with Attempted Murder in the 2nd degree, the charges have been amended to 2nd degree Murder, they are housed at a juvenile detention facility and are scheduled to appear in Broome County Court at a later date to be arraigned on the new charge. Additionally, the 13-year-old suspect was located and arrested at an address in Whitney Point, and has also been charged with 2nd degree Murder and was also sent to a juvenile detention facility in Syracuse, New York. State Police arrested 46 year old James Lewis of Binghamton after a dispute that resulted in another man sustaining serious injuries. Lewis has been charged with 1st Degree Robbery & Assault, On Friday afternoon, Troopers were dispatched to Endicott for a report of a male who had been struck multiple times by a baseball bat following a dispute. The 48 year old unidentified victim was taken to Wilson Medical Center, where he underwent surgery & was listed in stable condition. An investigation determined that Lewis and the victim had previously traded e-bikes, with the victim expected to pay Lewis, when he failed to provide payment, Lewis struck him multiple times with a baseball bat then left the area with the e-bike. Troopers located Lewis Saturday, was taken into custody without incident, and the e-bike was recovered. Lewis was processed & was turned over to the Broome County Jail for Arraignment.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked at a residence in the Town of Sanford Tuesday. Deputies located the suspicious vehicle and performed a traffic stop. The driver, 29 year old Philip Briggs of Deposit told deputies that he had picked up the passenger, 37 year old Emily Cecere of Binghamton, who claimed to have been staying at the residence, The owner confirmed that no one was authorized to stay there. Briggs was found to have a burglary tool in his possession and Cecere was found to be in possession of a credit card belonging to a deceased individual who lived at the residence. Briggs was charged with Burglary, Possession of Burglar Tools and Conspiracy, Cecere was charged with Burglary and Conspiracy, they will face court action shortly.

State Troopers initiated a traffic stop Sunday on a vehicle for moving unsafely from its lane. Troopers observed a pill container in the vehicle driven by 43 year old Adam Morley of Deposit, the contents was later identified as oxycodone. Troopers also discovered methamphetamine and a pump action shotgun that had been reported stolen in South Carolina. Morley was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and the passenger, 27 year old Taylor Fineout of Hancock, was found in possession of a 30-round illegal high-capacity ammunition magazine, as well as methamphetamine, he was charged with Unlawful Possession of an Ammunition Feeding Device, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Both individuals were processed and were released on appearance tickets for Deposit Town Court on May 4.

State Police arrested 22 year old Kevin Wright of Binghamton and an 18 year old unidentified female from Smithville Flats for theft of a firearm, ammunition and blank checks stolen from a residence in Chenango County. Wright was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Grand Larceny & Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, the female was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 27 counts of Forgery, 5 counts of Possession of Forged Instrument, Grand Larceny and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. In February, Troopers responded to Smithville Flats after fraudulent charges were made using a victim’s account, the victim discovered a check book, a revolver and ammunition were missing, 27 checks were fraudulently signed and transactions were made using a credit card, for just under $14,000. The 2 were found in Binghamton, Wright was wanted on an active arrest warrant, the 18-year-old female possessed 5 forged checks from the victim, the loaded revolver was in the vehicle, both were being held at the Broome County Jail pending court action.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 47 year old Jason Nichols of New Berlin Friday for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Unlicensed Operator and several other charges. Deputies responded to State Highway 23 in the Town of New Berlin for a 2 car motor vehicle accident, Nichols who had a revoked New York driver's license, while intoxicated, he transported to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, was processed & was released to a sober third party and is to appear in the Town of New Berlin Court at a later date.

Applications are open for the Master Teacher Program and Master Counselors, which recognizes more than 1,600 outstanding public school teachers and counselors throughout the state. Teachers may apply at suny.edu/masterteacher and the deadline to apply is May 21st, Master Teachers and Master Counselors will receive a $15,000 stipend annually; and they will attend required regional meetings to participate in and lead professional development sessions each year.

Binghamton Police announced the recovery of the body of a man that was reported missing for several weeks. The body of 38 year-old Colyn Williams has been recovered from the banks of the Susquehanna River in Vestal. Vestal Police investigating Williams death, the cause of death does not appear to be criminal, the investigation is ongoing.

Former Binghamton mayor Matt Ryan announced that he is running for Broome County Sheriff, on the Democratic and Working Families lines. Ryan worked as a public defender & Mayor, Current Sheriff Fred Akshar is expected to seek re-election, running as a Republican.

Multiple accidents are being reported throughout the region by law enforcement agencies, they advise motorists to slow down & leave extra time to get to your destination. Also, With all of the postponements of sectional semi final basketball games, the Boys & Girls Class C Basketball games will be held at Delaware Academy in Delhi & TC3 in Dryden tomorrow. All of the Boys & Girls Class D semi finals will be held Wednesday at SUNY Delhi.

The State Department of Motor Vehicles announced that their department helped New Yorkers recover more than $13.6 million in stolen vehicles, titles, parts and services during 2025. The department reported that 384 Stolen Vehicles were Recovered in 2025 Worth $10.4 Million, and an Additional $3.2 Million Recouped in Titles, Repairs and Refunds, That number is an increase from $11 million recovered in 2024.

On Thursday Night, Broome County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol observed a stolen vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on State Route 17 in the Town of Vestal, A pursuit followed, to I-81, to I-88 into the town of Fenton & back through Binghamton into Johnson City, the pursuit ended when a tire fail off, the driver, 28 year old Romario Robinson of Binghamton, was taken into custody. 28 year old Shelby Medovich of Harpursville exited a nearby restaurant & interfered with the investigation of Robinson, she is accused of being a participant in the theft of the vehicle. Robinson and Medovich were charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument, Conspiracy, Robinson faced additional traffic violations both were processed, arraigned & were released on their own recognizance pending future court action.

Patrick Shea plead guilty to manslaughter and arson, he set a fire to keep warm inside a vacant structure at 1 Main Street in Binghamton on February 12, 2025, the fire led to the death of Binghamton Firefighter J.R. Gaudet, who died when the building collapsed on him. Shea is expected to serve 7 years in prison as part of a plea bargain arrangement.

Governor Hochul highlighted proposals to bring down costs of auto insurance rates and tackle fraudulent claims, limit damages paid out to bad actors and ensure that consumers, not insurance companies, are prioritized:

Governor Hochul said that similar reforms against Auto Insurance fraud were implemented in Florida, where insurance premiums were reduced on average by 20%, she is hoping the the state legislature will pass these reforms this session.

Broome County will host the New York State Public High School Athletic Association baseball championships through 2029. The Games Will Be Played at such venues as Union- Endicott High School, Mirabito Stadium and Binghamton University for semifinal and championship match-ups.

The State Division of Criminal Justice Services announced that 34 year old Chelsea Nicholson of Oneonta is missing, she is described as a white female, 5' 7", 220 pounds with brown hair & Green eyes, she is considered an endangered adult who may be in need of medical attention. She was last seen driving a 2013 red Kia SUV with New York license plate LGJ-4364 on Franklin Street in the city of Oneonta, at 9:00 AM on Tuesday, February 10. 19 year old Shyleek Favor of Queens, was sentenced on Friday, in Broome County Court to 9½ years in State Prison, followed by 5 years of Post-Release Supervision, in connection with his attempted murder conviction. On August 16, 2024, Favor was arrested following a routine traffic stop. During a search of the vehicle, officers recovered 2 9mm fully loaded handguns as well as Oxycodone. Favor was remanded to the Broome County Correctional Facility on drug & weapons charges, he was released after posting $20,000 bail, 2 months later, Favor was arrested by the Binghamton Police Department and charged with Attempted Murder, for firing 5 rounds from an illegally possessed firearm, striking a victim, he was remanded to the Broome County Jail, While incarcerated he was arrested 2 more times for Promoting Prison Contraband & Conspiracy, which added prison time to his sentence.

State Police at Troop C responded to a school bus crash on its side in the town of Truxton this morning. A bus from the Homer Central School District had 11 elementary school aged students on the bus, the school bus driver and a school bus aide. Troopers & Local EMS responded, 2 seven year old & an 9 year old were taken to an area hospital, 2 with head injuries and 1 with a hand injury, several other reported minor injuries & were treated at the scene & released, other students were transferred to another bus and transported to the Homer School District.

State Police announced that a multi-agency saturation detail on February 5, resulted in three arrests. Arrested were 61 year old Kenneth Jordan of Endicott for counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Narcotic Drug, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Jordan was processed then transported to the Broome County Jail for Centralized Arraignment. A traffic stop in the village of Johnson City resulted in the arrest of 50 year old Robert Stankevich of Binghamton for criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance for allegedly possessing crystal meth, he was released on an appearance tickets for Johnson City Village Court on Wednesday. A traffic stop in the town of Union resulted in the arrest of 22 year old Donavin Stiglich of Whitney Point on drug charges for allegedly possessing crystal meth, he'll appear in Union Town Court on February 17.

33 year old Stephen Pudiak of Binghamton was found guilty of 1st degree Rape as well as Sexual Abuse in Broome County Court last week. The Jury determined that Pudiak engaged in sexual contact and sexual intercourse with a female who was incapable of consent by reason of being physically helpless, in August 2017, he recorded himself engaging in sexual acts with the victim while she was asleep, the victim was unaware she was being recorded and did not know the sexual assault had occurred. Pudiak will be sentenced at a later date.

Voters in the 16 component districts of DCMO BOCES have approved a $44.4 million capital project. The project proposed repairs and upgrades to both the Harrold Campus in Sidney Center and the Pole Campus in Norwich, an addition to the Harrold Campus, and the purchase of the Masonville School site for student program expansion. State Police arrested a father and son in Broome County following the execution of a search warrant by the Troop C Violent Gangs and Narcotics Enforcement Team, Troop C Community Stabilization Unit, Vestal Police Department and the State Office of Cannabis Management. The search warrant is the result of a several months-long investigation at 448 Robin Lane in the Town of Vestal. Police seized 8 pounds of cannabis, 3 pounds of cannabis concentrate plus cash, Cell Phones and a PC Tablet, they arrested 22 year old Tyler Dickerson of Endicott on multiple counts of Criminal Possession of Cannabis, and 41 year old William Dickerson of Vestal on the Cannabis charges, plus Resisting Arrest & Obstructing Governmental Administration, Both men were processed and issued appearance tickets to appear at the Vestal Town Court on February 19.

26 year old Jahmeek BeyJones was sentenced Wednesday in Broome County Court to 7 Years in State Prison followed by 5 Years of Post-Release Supervision, following his conviction for Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal possession of a Weapon with an Ammunition Feeding Device, multiple counts of Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance & Tampering with Physical Evidence. On October 22, 2024, Officers located BeyJones in Binghamton, he was voluntarily provided officers with a key to his residence, where they located a handgun, a loaded high-capacity magazine, which was reported stolen in Pennsylvania, plus a digital scale & cocaine, at the Broome County Correctional Facility intake, Narcotic pills were found within his body.

Governor Kathy Hochul reminds New Yorkers to take advantage of the State’s recently expanded child tax credit, also known as the Empire State Child Credit. The refundable credit can either help offset taxes or be paid out directly to taxpayers as cash back in the form of a refund. Eligible families can now receive up to $1,000 per child under age four and $330 per qualifying child age 4 through 16 years old. Next year, the credit for children ages four through 16 will also increase to up to $500 per child and households with eligible children under age four will still be able to claim up to $1,000 per child. 2 Binghamton residents were arrested on Friday following a search warrant that led to multiple loaded firearms, controlled substances, and items linked to a street gang, according to information from the Binghamton Police Department. Police arrested 44 year old Pedro Masso-Diaz on various drug & weapons charges, they also arrested Hailey Wells on a host of similar charges, following the execution of a search warrant by the Metro S.W.A.T. Team and the Broome County Special Investigations Unit at 6 Grand Ave. in Binghamton, Friday morning. Investigators seized 5 firearms, including an illegally possessed loaded .380 caliber Ruger handgun, a stolen AR-15, an AR pistol, 2 revolvers and Multiple high-capacity magazines were also recovered. Authorities found cocaine, mushrooms, $1,336 in cash, and items used to weigh, cut, and package narcotics for distribution. Both suspects were taken to the Broome County Jail.

The American Red Cross is facing a severe blood shortage as requests from hospitals exceed the available supply of blood, leading to about a 35% drawdown of blood products in the past month.  The shortage is especially serious for platelets and types O, A negative and B negative blood. High flu activity in nearly every state may be sidelining donors, At the same time, hospitals already feeling the strain of the worst flu season in nearly 20 years are now also forced to triage critical blood products. The Goodyear Lake Polar Bear Jump will return to Goodyear Lake on February 21st, to raise money for area children suffering from a variety of health issues. The event has been held locally for 28 years, Last year they raised $186,000 through donations and auctions, 100% of the proceeds go directly to the children and their families. The Winter Storm dumped quite a bit of snow across the state, Governor Hochul has issued a State of Emergency, avoid any unnecessary travel until roads can be cleared. Area Schools are closed today, we will have the CDO Stormwatch throughout this morning, NYSEG reports that all power outages from yesterday have been resolved.

Broome County Sheriff's office arrested 2 Binghamton residents following a high speed pursuit through several jurisdiction Thursday. Road Patrol observed a black Jeep matching the description of a vehicle involved in multiple pursuits, it had stolen license plates, the Jeep failed to stop and traveled at a high rate of speed, the front seat passenger climbed into the back seat and began throwing objects at the patrol vehicle, The pursuit ended when police used stop sticks, Police arrested 26 year old Sean Brown of Binghamton & 24 year old Kiley Bonilla-Lattanze of Binghamton. Police seized Methamphetamine from the vehicle, they face numerous charges, Brown was also wanted on warrants from Pennsylvania, Bonilla-Lattanze was processed and released with appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court, Brown was being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility pending extradition by Pennsylvania State Police.

The Hartwick College Art and Art History Department presents the 8th Annual Regional High School Art Show in the Foreman Gallery, featuring student artwork from 10 area high schools. The exhibition is on display to the public daily from 10 am to 6 pm through Tuesday, January 20, Participating schools include Charlotte Valley, Greene, Oxford Academy & Walton, The show features the work of 126 students and includes 109 pieces of art, including a collaborative wire sculpture created by 27 students.

Property tax levy growth for New York's school districts and 10 cities will remain capped at 2% for the fifth year in a row, according to State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. The tax cap limits annual tax levy increases to the lesser of the rate of inflation or 2% with certain exceptions. The law includes provisions that allow school districts and municipalities to override the cap. DiNapoli's office calculated the inflation factor at 2.63%. The 2% tax cap calculations are for 675 school districts and 10 cities with fiscal years starting July 1st.

Governor Hochul's office has been negotiating with Delta Airlines, to convince them to return to flights in and out of the Binghamton Airport. Delta announced recently that they would stop service on February 14th, Delta announced that they may return their at an unspecified time this spring.
