A Lawsuit was filed in Broome County Supreme Court against the Vestal School District where a former Vestal High School student alleges that economics teacher Robert Carr asked her to meet him, he allegedly kissed the victim numerous times, groped her inappropriately and continued to force sexual activity upon her until she moved to the state of Texas and changed her phone number. The lawsuit claims that School Officials did not take any action against Carr after learning of the accusations.

On Tuesday, Broome County Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the US Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 22 year old Nathan Williams Jr. of Endicott, at 68 Thorp Street in the City of Binghamton. Williams was wanted by the Endicott Police Department for Murder in connection with the shooting death of 25-year-old Molique Dawson in Endicott in July. The Metro SWAT Team of the Binghamton Police Department executed the search warrant and Williams was successfully taken into custody after a 5 hour standoff, Williams was transported to the Broome County Sheriff’s Correctional Facility, arraigned at Central Arraignment and is currently being held without bail.
Congressman Marc Molinaro announced over $3.5 million in federal funding will go to 9 airports for infrastructure improvements. Locally, the Greater Binghamton Edwin Link Field Airport will get about $1,000,000, the Tri-Cities Airport in Endicott: $144,000, the Eaton Airport in Norwich: $144,000, the Sidney Municipal Airport: $144,000 & the Albert Nader Regional Airport in Oneonta: $113,000

39 year old Orlando Torres of Binghamton was found guilty by a Broome County Jury for 2 counts of criminal possession of a Controlled Substance & 1 count of criminal possession of drug paraphernalia. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant on a Binghamton apartment, Officer seized 20 grams of fentanyl, Cash from drug sales and a digital scale. Torres faces up to 12 years in state prison when sentenced next month.
The Mid York Concert band is looking for musicians to join them, as they prepare their annual Holiday performances. The Otsego County Sheriff's office arrested 24 year old Kristen Knapp of Cooperstown following an investigation of a motor vehicle accident on September 23rd. Knapp was charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated DWI, Speed not reasonable and prudent, along with other charges following an accident at County Highway 33 and County Highway 11C in the Town of Middlefield. Knapp will appear in Town of Middlefield Court at a later date.

26 year old Simon Wysong of Delhi was indicted Thursday in Delaware County Court, he is accused of Driving While Impaired by Amphetamines, Methamphetamines, and Fentanyl in the Town of Davenport on July 26, 2022. Wysong was driving at a high rate of speed on County Highway 10 when he failed to stop at a stop sign, crossed onto State Highway 23 & collided with another vehicle. Wysong's passenger was killed, the driver of the other vehicle suffered serious physical injuries. The Grand Jury indicted Wysong for Vehicular Manslaughter, Assault, 2nd degree Manslaughter & Aggravated Vehicular Homicide, he faces up to 8 1/3rd to 25 years in state prison if he is convicted of the most serious charge. Wysong will be arraigned on the indictment in Delaware County Court on October 23rd.
Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies received a complaint regarding a group of students from Walton High School who received a message via a social media app, which contained threats to bomb the Walton School and cause harm to other students. Deputies responded to Walton and interviewed multiple students and it was determined that the threat was made after school hours and that an 18 year-old student of Walton High School did make threats to “bomb” the Walton High School. The juvenile was charged with Making a Terroristic Threat and was held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility for arraignment.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration may fine the Chicago Construction Company of Endicott about $4700 dollars in penalties after Keith Totten of Port Crane was critically injured when he was run over by a bulldozer at a job site in Binghamton. Daniel Erickson of Greene pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Wednesday morning to Luring a Child and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Erickson he former middle school principal in the Johnson City School District, He is accused of communicating with a Johnson City High School student in an attempt to entice the student to perform sexual acts and attempting to meet her with the intention of having sexual relations with her. Erickson was arrested on July 7th, he resigned his position as principal.

The State Department of Health released a report regarding tobacco related cancers from 2016 - 2020. Approximately 46,000 cases of tobacco-related cancers are diagnosed in New York State each year. Among the four cancers most closely related to tobacco, rates of esophagus, larynx and lung cancer have steeply declined, but oral cancer increased by 1.3%. Broome County DA Mike Korchak announced that 57 year old Nicholas Vail was sentenced to 3 1/2 to 7 years in prison for 3rd degree robbery. Vail was arrested for robbing a market in Binghamton in February, he was previously convicted for robbery in 2019.

State Police have arrested 4 people for burglary at a residence in the town of Lisle. On May 5, State police were contacted regarding 4 people taking things from a residence and putting it into a U-Haul. Following the investigation state Police charged Laura Dickerson, Joseph Swarts, Matthew McLaughlin & Jamie Levene, all of Binghamton, for 2nd degree Burglary, they were transported to the Broome County Jail for Central Arraignment and Processing.
State Police arrested 32 year old Alexei Mordwinkin of Port Crane for Menacing, after Troopers were dispatched to Fat Cowboys in the town of Fenton, where Mordwinkin allegedly displayed what appeared to be a handgun at a patron. Troopers located Mordwinkin at his residence and the item he displayed was a BB gun, he was arrested and transported to SP Binghamton where he was processed and issued an appearance ticket to the Fenton Town Court on July 13, 2023.

Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies responded Friday to a 2 car motor vehicle accident with injuries on State Highway 206 in the Town of Tompkins. After further investigation, deputies identified the one of the drivers of the vehicle as 66 year-old Terence Gebler of Walton, whose driver’s license was suspended. Deputies arrested Gebler for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Failure to turn in license to DMV, & Failure to yield while entering an intersection, Gebler was released and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Tompkins Court at a later date.

The Broome County Sheriff's Office arrested 22 year old Houston Alexander of Binghamton following a high speed pursuit Thursday night. A Deputy was conducting a routine speed enforcement on I-81 in the Town of Dickinson when he encountered a vehicle traveling at 90 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone, after pursuits through several towns, Alexander's vehicle collided with a patrol vehicle, he fled on foot, which ended a few block later in Johnson City with a Taser deployment, and he was taken into custody. Alexander was charged with Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Reckless Endangerment, Obstructing Government Administration & Resisting Arrest, Alexander was processed and issued appearance tickets for a future court date, The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Johnson City Police and State Police. There were no injuries stemming from the incident.
SUNY Broome announced that just under 750 people graduated last night at the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena in downtown Binghamton. College Officials said that 65% of the graduates are female and 35% are male, the most popular major again this year was nursing.

The Broome County County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a single-car motor vehicle accident on I-88 westbound near the Exit 3 on-ramp in the town of Fenton. Officers reported that a Honda sedan traveling westbound on I-88 left the highway, crashing into the Chenango River, at about 11:30 this morning, both occupants were removed from the river by Deputies and transported to Wilson Hospital for their injuries. The unidentified driver suffered serious life threatening injuries, the passenger sustained minor injuries. Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar released details on a pregnant inmate who attempted to smuggle drugs into the Broome County Correctional Facility and overdosed after entering the facility, leading to the death of her unborn child. Akshar said that his staff worked to saved the life of 36 year old Quashaia Oranchak of Owego on March 20th, after she was arrested by State Police on felony drug charges, she began showing signs of a drug overdose shortly after arriving, Narcan was administered & EMT's were called to transport her to Wilson Hospital, where she had a baggie of a substance located in her body, which tested positive for both methamphetamine and fentanyl. Toxicology reports from the Coroner show that both the unborn fetus’s blood and cerebral spinal fluid contained an extremely high & fatal level of methamphetamine. Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 45 year old David Moxley of Hamden following a motor vehicle accident on April 14th. Deputies responded to a 1 car motor vehicle roll over with entrapment on County Highway 14, in the Town of Meredith, the vehicle went off the road into the ditch, and had rolled onto the roof. Moxley was charged with DWI and aggravated driving with a BAC greater than 0.18%, he was released on appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Meredith Court at a later date.
Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 2 juveniles for 3rd degree Assault, following an incident at the Charlotte Valley Central School on April 12th. The Preliminary investigation by Deputies revealed that a physical altercation had occurred where the victim was physically injured, both juveniles were charged, and were issued a juvenile appearance ticket and were directed to report to the Delaware County Probation Department at a later date.
Rajee Almashni of Binghamton pleaded Not Guilty in Broome County Court Friday to 17 counts, including Murder & DWI, for the March 5th Hit & Run that led to the death of 72-year-old Elizabeth Atkinson, as she exited the Oakdale Commons in Johnson City. Police were called to the commons & attempted to make contact with Almashni, but he fled in a vehicle at a high rate of speed through the parking lot & hit Atkinson, who was taken to Wilson Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Almashni is being held in the Broome County Jail pending additional court action.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 32-year-old John Durgala of Syracuse and 26 year old Prince Johnson of Binghamton. Deputies were dispatched Wednesday to Marvin Hollow Road and State Highway 10 in the Town of Walton for a suspicious vehicle complaint. Prince Johnson was the operator of the vehicle was found to have an active Violent Felony Warrant out of Broome County and he was arrested. John Durgala provided a false identity to Deputies, he was found to have an active Violent Felony Warrant out of Broome County Sheriff’s Office in relation to Johnson’s arrest warrant. Durgala was charged with false impersonation, Obstructing Governmental Administration, he was issued appearance tickets and was directed to appear in the Town of Walton Court at a later date to answer to the charges.

Broome County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29 year old Nicholas Sorensen of Johnson City following a traffic stop in Binghamton. Sorensen was found to be driving without a license & was wanted on a warrant for a DWI in Pennsylvania. Sorensen fled the scene on foot through traffic, he was subdued by 2 taser cartridges. Sorensen was treated at the scene by EMT's, he was charged with Resisting Arrest and Obstruction of Governmental Administration plus several traffic violations, he was taken to Central Arraignment and transported to the Broome County Correctional Facility as a fugitive from justice to await extradition by the Monroe County, PA Sheriff’s Office to answer for his outstanding charges.

The Broome County District Attorney's Office announced that Taykwann Browne of Brooklyn pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon, for illegally possessing a gun in Binghamton in January. The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force assisting New York State parole, located Browne who had absconded from parole supervision and had an active homicide warrant in New York City, Browne drove off, leading police on a chase through the City of Binghamton, he crashed the car and fled on foot but was apprehended a short time later by police. Browne will be sentenced to 7 years in State prison followed by 5 years post release supervision on June 30th, he still faces action in New York City.
Students in the Hancock School District were dismissed early after being under a lockout for part of the morning on Tuesday. The issue began following a report of an investigation of a parent or guardian of a Hancock Student. State Police & Hancock Police reported that there was no threat to any students or staff at about 12:15 PM, but students were sent home & after school activities were canceled. The Colonial Restaurant and Bar and Dos Rios Cantina, both owned by the defendants, have both since closed since the allegations went public & the charges were filed.
