Binghamton Police responded Tuesday to a report of a male stabbed downtown, a 19-year-old male victim had sustained 2 significant stab wounds; one to his back and one in the upper leg, he was transported to a local hospital for treatment & emergency surgery. 2 suspects had fled the scene in a white sedan. 1 suspect was identified as 19 year old Christopher Ricketts of Binghamton, the 2nd suspect & driver of the vehicle in question was identified as 18 year old Jeremiah Coqmard of Johnson City. Both were charged with 1st degree Assault both were arraigned in Binghamton City Court and remanded to the custody of the Broome County Correctional Facility, anyone with information is asked to contact the Binghamton Police Detective Bureau by phone at 607-772-7080.

Walton Police arrested former Walton Teacher Eric Scofield who allegedly violated an Order of Protection by being on school property. Scofield was located on the property of the Walton High School, Scofield was charged with 4 counts of Criminal Contempt, he was arraigned & was being held at the Delaware County Correctional Facility on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 bond. Scofield was ordered to stay away from the district after an investigation for engaging in improper communications with students.
Rail Fans are waiting for the Union Pacific Big Boy No. 4014, the world's largest operating steam locomotive, to move through the region in the coming days. as part of a historic coast-to-coast tour to celebrate America's 250th anniversary. The tour includes a Fourth of July celebration in Philadelphia, rail fans can see the train pass through Friday, in Sayre Pennsylvania at about 9:00 AM, in Owego, between 10:45 to 11:15 AM and then it will depart from Binghamton Saturday, June 13 at 7:30 AM. Delaware County District Attorney Shawn Smith & Delaware County Sheriff DuMond will hold a press conference Tuesday at 10:30 to announce the conviction of Brent Trimbell of Hobart, who was the high school coach that was alleged to have sexually abused two female victims while serving in his position and previously raping a third victim. Trimbell had also bee arrested on Federal charges in connection with this investigation.

The Binghamton Police Department & the Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced that after the death of 45 year old Peter Bennedum Friday at an area Hospital, the investigation is now being handled as a homicide. The 4 juveniles were previously charged with Attempted Murder in the 2nd degree, the charges have been amended to 2nd degree Murder, they are housed at a juvenile detention facility and are scheduled to appear in Broome County Court at a later date to be arraigned on the new charge. Additionally, the 13-year-old suspect was located and arrested at an address in Whitney Point, and has also been charged with 2nd degree Murder and was also sent to a juvenile detention facility in Syracuse, New York. This matter remains an ongoing investigation, Anyone with information is asked to contact the Binghamton Police Detective Bureau by phone at 607-772-7080.

State Police arrested 46 year old James Lewis of Binghamton after a dispute that resulted in another man sustaining serious injuries. Lewis has been charged with 1st Degree Robbery & Assault, On Friday afternoon, Troopers were dispatched to Endicott for a report of a male who had been struck multiple times by a baseball bat following a dispute. The 48 year old unidentified victim was taken to Wilson Medical Center, where he underwent surgery & was listed in stable condition. An investigation determined that Lewis and the victim had previously traded e-bikes, with the victim expected to pay Lewis, when he failed to provide payment, Lewis struck him multiple times with a baseball bat then left the area with the e-bike. Troopers located Lewis Saturday, was taken into custody without incident, and the e-bike was recovered. Lewis was processed & was turned over to the Broome County Jail for Arraignment.

Deputies located the suspicious vehicle and performed a traffic stop. The driver, 29 year old Philip Briggs of Deposit told deputies that he had picked up the passenger, 37 year old Emily Cecere of Binghamton, who claimed to have been staying at the residence, The owner confirmed that no one was authorized to stay there. Briggs was found to have a burglary tool in his possession and Cecere was found to be in possession of a credit card belonging to a deceased individual who lived at the residence. Briggs was charged with Burglary, Possession of Burglar Tools and Conspiracy, Cecere was charged with Burglary and Conspiracy, they will face court action shortly.

Troopers also discovered methamphetamine and a pump action shotgun that had been reported stolen in South Carolina. Morley was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and the passenger, 27 year old Taylor Fineout of Hancock, was found in possession of a 30-round illegal high-capacity ammunition magazine, as well as methamphetamine, he was charged with Unlawful Possession of an Ammunition Feeding Device, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Both individuals were processed and were released on appearance tickets for Deposit Town Court on May 4.

State Police arrested 22 year old Kevin Wright of Binghamton and an 18 year old unidentified female from Smithville Flats for theft of a firearm, ammunition and blank checks stolen from a residence in Chenango County. Wright was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Grand Larceny & Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, the female was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon, 27 counts of Forgery, 5 counts of Possession of Forged Instrument, Grand Larceny and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property. In February, Troopers responded to Smithville Flats after fraudulent charges were made using a victim’s account, the victim discovered a check book, a revolver and ammunition were missing, 27 checks were fraudulently signed and transactions were made using a credit card, for just under $14,000. The 2 were found in Binghamton, Wright was wanted on an active arrest warrant, the 18-year-old female possessed 5 forged checks from the victim, the loaded revolver was in the vehicle, both were being held at the Broome County Jail pending court action.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office arrested 47 year old Jason Nichols of New Berlin Friday for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Unlicensed Operator and several other charges. Deputies responded to State Highway 23 in the Town of New Berlin for a 2 car motor vehicle accident, Nichols who had a revoked New York driver's license, while intoxicated, he transported to the Chenango County Sheriff's Office, was processed & was released to a sober third party and is to appear in the Town of New Berlin Court at a later date.

Applications are open for the Master Teacher Program and Master Counselors, which recognizes more than 1,600 outstanding public school teachers and counselors throughout the state. Teachers may apply at suny.edu/masterteacher and the deadline to apply is May 21st, Master Teachers and Master Counselors will receive a $15,000 stipend annually; and they will attend required regional meetings to participate in and lead professional development sessions each year.
The New York State Fair announced some of the acts that will be playing at the fair, which will run from August 26th to September 7th this year. Among the acts announced today are ZZ Top, Quiet Riot, Melissa Etheridge, Trace Adkins & The Commodores, All concerts are included with fair admission, Fair tickets will go on sale later this summer.

The body of 38 year-old Colyn Williams has been recovered from the banks of the Susquehanna River in Vestal. Vestal Police investigating Williams death, the cause of death does not appear to be criminal, the investigation is ongoing.

State Police at Troop C responded to a school bus crash on its side in the town of Truxton this morning. A bus from the Homer Central School District had 11 elementary school aged students on the bus, the school bus driver and a school bus aide. Troopers & Local EMS responded, 2 seven year old & an 9 year old were taken to an area hospital, 2 with head injuries and 1 with a hand injury, several other reported minor injuries & were treated at the scene & released, other students were transferred to another bus and transported to the Homer School District.

A traffic stop in the village of Johnson City resulted in the arrest of 50 year old Robert Stankevich of Binghamton for criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance for allegedly possessing crystal meth, he was released on an appearance tickets for Johnson City Village Court on Wednesday. A traffic stop in the town of Union resulted in the arrest of 22 year old Donavin Stiglich of Whitney Point on drug charges for allegedly possessing crystal meth, he'll appear in Union Town Court on February 17.
33 year old Stephen Pudiak of Binghamton was found guilty of 1st degree Rape as well as Sexual Abuse in Broome County Court last week. The Jury determined that Pudiak engaged in sexual contact and sexual intercourse with a female who was incapable of consent by reason of being physically helpless, in August 2017, he recorded himself engaging in sexual acts with the victim while she was asleep, the victim was unaware she was being recorded and did not know the sexual assault had occurred. Pudiak will be sentenced at a later date.

2 Binghamton residents were arrested on Friday following a search warrant that led to multiple loaded firearms, controlled substances, and items linked to a street gang, according to information from the Binghamton Police Department. Police arrested 44 year old Pedro Masso-Diaz on various drug & weapons charges, they also arrested Hailey Wells on a host of similar charges, following the execution of a search warrant by the Metro S.W.A.T. Team and the Broome County Special Investigations Unit at 6 Grand Ave. in Binghamton, Friday morning. Investigators seized 5 firearms, including an illegally possessed loaded .380 caliber Ruger handgun, a stolen AR-15, an AR pistol, 2 revolvers and Multiple high-capacity magazines were also recovered. Authorities found cocaine, mushrooms, $1,336 in cash, and items used to weigh, cut, and package narcotics for distribution. Both suspects were taken to the Broome County Jail.

Road Patrol observed a black Jeep matching the description of a vehicle involved in multiple pursuits, it had stolen license plates, the Jeep failed to stop and traveled at a high rate of speed, the front seat passenger climbed into the back seat and began throwing objects at the patrol vehicle, The pursuit ended when police used stop sticks, Police arrested 26 year old Sean Brown of Binghamton & 24 year old Kiley Bonilla-Lattanze of Binghamton. Police seized Methamphetamine from the vehicle, they face numerous charges, Brown was also wanted on warrants from Pennsylvania, Bonilla-Lattanze was processed and released with appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Kirkwood Court, Brown was being held at the Broome County Correctional Facility pending extradition by Pennsylvania State Police.

The tax cap limits annual tax levy increases to the lesser of the rate of inflation or 2% with certain exceptions. The law includes provisions that allow school districts and municipalities to override the cap. DiNapoli's office calculated the inflation factor at 2.63%. The 2% tax cap calculations are for 675 school districts and 10 cities with fiscal years starting July 1st.

40 Year Old Jeremiah Raub from New Milford Pennsylvania was sentenced in Broome County to 20 years to life for 2nd degree Murder, plus 20 years to life for Arson with sentences to run concurrently in a New York State correctional facility. Raub was found guilty at trial in August in connection with the fatal March 17, 2011, fire at 20 Milford Street in the City of Binghamton, Raub intentionally set a fire in a recycling bin at the residence, the fire caused the death of 17 year old Jeffrey Aissa, who was inside the home at the time of the incident.

State Police arrested 28 year old Austin Darrow of New Milford, Pennsylvania, for Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle. On October 4th, a Trooper observed a sedan following a vehicle too close on I-81 and then fail to stop at a stop sign at 2 locations, when the Trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the operator took off at a high rate of speed, into the state of Pennsylvania. With the assistance of Pennsylvania State Police, Troopers were able to locate Darrow, he turned himself in at the Binghamton Barracks and he was issued traffic tickets and an appearance ticket to the Kirkwood Town Court on November 5th.

A Groundbreaking Ceremony will be held on October 22nd for the Delaware Valley Medical Neighborhood in Walton at 2:00 PM. The project calls for an $80 million, 4-story facility featuring medical services like primary care, specialty care, physical therapy, and lab services to a single location. Construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

Norwich Police arrested 27 year old Caleb Alexander of Columbus Ohio for Criminal Impersonation following an investigation into an adult who was using foul language and disrespecting staff at the Norwich YMCA. Alexander was using a number of incorrect identifications, detectives learned that Alexander later went to Norwich High School, where he allegedly used a false name, date of birth, and address in an attempt to enroll and gain access to the school. Detectives located Alexander a short time later, and he was taken into custody without incident. Alexander was wanted on a parole/probation warrant from Ohio for robbery and impersonating a police officer. Ohio authorities have confirmed that they intend to extradite Alexander to face those charges. Norwich Police stated that no children were harmed, and the suspect never made it beyond the high school office. Alexander is currently being held pending an extradition hearing in Chenango County Court.

24 year old Xavier Tappan-Bright of Binghamton, plead guilty today to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in Broome County Court. Tappan-Bright, is a 2nd time Violent Felony Offender, will be sentenced to 8 years in State Prison, followed by 5 years of post-release supervision when Sentenced on August 28. In January, the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a Search Warrant in Binghamton, they seized a loaded .38 caliber pistol, containing 6 rounds in the magazine.

Delaware County Sheriff's Deputies were patrolling along State Highway 28 in the Town of Andes and observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. 36-year-old Natasha Reed of Delhi was charged with Reckless Driving and issued a traffic summons for speeding, at approximately 94 miles an hour in a 55 zone. Reed was issued appearance tickets and released to appear at the Town of Andes Court at a later date to answer the charges.

James Wales was denied parole last week, he is serving a sentence of 33 years to life for the 1984 murder of 12-year-old Cheri Lindsey, this was the 6th denied parole following strong opposition from the community. Lindsey was killed in March of 1984, while collecting payments on her newspaper delivery route. She was murdered in Wales’ home on Sturges Street in Binghamton, Wales will be eligible to apply for parole supervision again in 2 years

On February 27, State Police executed a search warrant at multiple properties on State Highway 80 in the town of Springfield. 8 dogs, 13 cats and A turtle were removed after they were observed to be in need of immediate medical care. They were all turned over to the Susquehanna SPCA. On Tuesday. 64 year old Brian Fleming, and 61 year old Theresa Fleming of Springfield, were both arrested for 11 counts of Torturing or Injuring Animals/Failure to Provide Sustenance and 2 counts of the Aggravated Cruelty to Animals, They are scheduled to appear in the Springfield Town Court on April 3rd.

The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights sent letters to 60 universities under investigation for antisemitic discrimination and harassment, the department is investigating five universities for reports of antisemitic harassment. Additionally, 55 universities are under investigation or monitoring due to complaints to the department, including SUNY Binghamton and Cornell University.
