Governor Kathy Hochul today announced $250 million to help communities afford water and sewer infrastructure improvements. The Environmental Facilities Corporation Board of Directors approved financing and State and federal grants for a number of local governments to access for crucial upgrades. Locally, Funding was approved for the Village of Bainbridge, they will receive $7.5 million in State grants and low-cost financing for the replacement of approximately 13,000 linear feet of water main and waterlines plus the replacement of Well No. 1 and backup power installation for Wells 1 and 3. The Town of Hancock, will receive $3 million in federal grant and interest-free financing for the creation of the Fishs Eddy Water System.

Bradley Law of Harpursville has officially been granted parole, following a recent hearing by the State Parole Board, he was convicted of criminal possession of a firearm and attempted leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle accident after striking & killing 13-year-old Brennan Loveless while he was riding a bicycle in Sanitaria Springs on January 1st, 2023, and for fleeing the scene, Law also reported that he hit a deer with his truck the next day to cover up the damage to his truck from the Loveless incident. Law was also charged following an unrelated domestic dispute, he was sentenced to 2 2/3 to to 8 years in prison, and will be released to parole supervision in January.

The Bassett Cancer Institute is inviting all cancer survivors to its annual Survivors Day Luncheon, which will be held this year at Fenimore Farm & Country Village in Cooperstown from 1:30 pm. to 3:30 pm on Sunday, June 1st. 29 year old Grace Archer of Afton pleaded guilty to Driving While Impaired by Drugs and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in Delaware County Court. Archer admitted to possessing methamphetamine and driving while impaired in the village of Sidney on December 31st. Sentencing is set for July 11th, Archer is expected to be sentenced to 3 years in prison to be followed by 2 years of post-release supervision on the drug charge, and 1 year of incarceration for her DWAI conviction.

Victor Tartaglia won one term with 65 votes, while Patricia Cristelli & Luther Higley each had 44 votes. 38 year old Nikita Kingsbury of Sidney appeared in Delaware County Court Monday and she pleaded guilty to 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Sell. Kingsbury was indicted by the Delaware County Grand Jury for allegedly selling Methamphetamines in the Village of Sidney on August 11, 2022. she was released on her own recognizance while the case was pending. Separately, a felony complaint was filed alleging the sale of illegal narcotics in the Town of Davenport in May. Kingsbury pleaded guilty in a plea bargain arrangement she will be sentenced to 2 years of incarceration in state prison to be followed by two years of post-release supervision on each conviction.
The National Transportation Safety Board released a preliminary report on the fatal plane crash that occurred on June 30 in Delaware County, killing 5 people. The report indicated that storm activity was in the plane's path, and that a controller had warned the pilot about the weather before the crash., although it is unclear if that was a factor in the crash. The report also found evidence of "overload failure", 5 people from Georgia will killed in the crash, the investigation is ongoing.

The suspect displayed a Handgun, demanded cash, he was wearing a black and purple wig, blue Oneonta YellowJackets hooded sweatshirt and pink slippers. The suspect left went hrough yards, left behind the disguises and left in a Silver Subaru parked on Adams Street, & left the village. The suspect is a bald or balding, heavy set white male over 6 feet tall. The Delaware County Sheriff's Office arrested 27 year old Ford Bailey-Banks of Davenport for 2nd degree Burglary, criminal trespass. On March 5th, 2024, Sheriffs Deputies received a complaint that Bailey-Banks had entered onto another’s property and into dwelling, where he stole multiple items as well a firearm, he was transported to the Delaware County Sheriffs Office to await Centralized Arraignment Processing and will be scheduled to appear at the Town of Harpersfield Court at a later date to answer for the charges.

State Police arrested 25 year old Jesse Micha-Hurlburt of Bainbridge, for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Disseminating Indecent Material of a Minor 2nd degree, Coercion and Unlawful Publication of an Intimate Image. On December 8, 2023, State Police received a report of an unknown individual requesting indecent material from a minor over text message and social media, he was arrested earlier this week, and was transported to Chenango County Jail.

State Police arrested 25 year old Jesse Micha-Hurlburt of Bainbridge, for Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Disseminating Indecent Material of a Minor 2nd degree, Coercion and Unlawful Publication of an Intimate Image. On December 8, 2023, State Police received a report of an unknown individual requesting indecent material from a minor over text message and social media, he was arrested earlier this week, and was transported to Chenango County Jail.

The Oneonta Fire Department and multiple mutual aid departments responded. Upon arrival, they found multiple structures with severe damage and an active structure fire. Deputies and members of various fire departments assisted residents in the immediate area with a precautionary evacuation. Once the fire was extinguished, 60 year old Desmond Moan was found deceased. A neighboring resident received medical attention for minor injuries sustained during the explosion, the initial investigation determined the cause of the fire at 18 Richards Avenue was a result of human error.

Delaware County Officials are aware of a complaint filed in the Northern District of New York by The Reporter. Officials can not make any comment at this time as the matter is in pending litigation, but officials deny all claims against the County as well as any individual named as a defendant in that matter, and will vigorously defend the action. The County was sued last week by the Reporter, as they claim that the action by the Board of Supervisors to remove The Reporter as the County's official paper for the publishing of legal notices, was in retaliation for coverage of county affairs by the Reporter's staff.
Delaware County District Attorney's Office announced that 44 year old Laura Davis of Big Indian was indicted for Drugged Driving by the Delaware County Grand Jury on December 7th. The Indictment alleges that on March 3rd, Davis was driving in the Village of Walton while her ability to operate that motor vehicle was impaired by a stimulant, she was also charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Controlled Substance Outside of its Original Container.

This afternoon there were about 330 without power in Sidney and another 60 in Bainbridge. The Sidney Central School District has revealed its new nickname, During the monthly Board of Education meeting Tuesday night, where a group of students unrolled string backpacks to show the new nickname to the Board. The Sabers were selected out of three finalists, which also included the Lions and Rough Riders. The Sidney School District was 1 of about 60 New York State public school districts that used a nickname or mascot connected to Native Americans, a State Supreme Court ruling in June 2022 established that public school districts are prohibited from utilizing the nicknames and mascots.

Chenango County Sheriff's Office responded to a small plane crash near Norwich Sunday afternoon. The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene & was the only occupant of the plane, the Chenango County Sheriff’s Office said the pilot was the only occupant of the plane. The department will begin work on county Route 16 on Monday, June 5, starting in Treadwell and progressing to state Route 10 in Fraser. that project should be completed by June 15. Drivers should expect extended delays during this work. Alternate routes are suggested.

Delhi Village Police, assisted by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office and the State Police Computer Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at 2 residences in the Town of Walton, where a quantity of electronic devices was seized by the police. Officers arrested former Waton Town Supervisor Joseph Hanley on a Sealed Indictment Warrant issued by the Delaware County Supreme Court, he was charged by Grand Jury indictment with Attempted Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Attempted Disseminating Indecent Material to a Minor. Hanley was remanded to the Delaware County Jail pending arraignment before the Delaware County Supreme Court.

Several Area Fire Departments responded to a reported structure fire at 8 Pearl Street in Bainbridge last night. The fire was reported on the 2nd floor, local firefighters responded again this morning for a rekindle. No injuries have been reported.
Tomorrow On Tuesday, State Senator Fred Akshar, Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo, Johnson City Police Chief Brent Dodge and representatives of the State Department of Transportation will join local officials, family and community members to dedicate a portion of New York Route 17C the Patrolman David 'DW' Smith Memorial Highway in the Village of Johnson City. The dedication will begin at 11:00am at the Johnson City Police Department, Officer Smith served with the Johnson City Police Department for 18 1/2 years, in 2014, he was fatally shot after responding to a disturbance at a local business.
State Police responded to a report that an 85-year-old woman with dementia left her residence on foot several hours prior and could not be located. An organized search was formed in the town of Andes. Troopers and New York State Police K9 were assisted by State Forest Rangers and Delhi Village Police. The woman was located deceased about a mile from her residence, There is no indication of any foul play.
State Department of Labor Commissioner Roberta Reardon issued an order accepting the recommendation of the Farm Laborers Wage Board to lower the current 60-hour threshold for overtime pay to 40 hours per week by January 1, 2032, allowing 10 years to phase in the new threshold, following a 2-year process and 14 public meetings and hearings. Farm work in excess of 40 hours per week would be required to be compensated at overtime rates, as it is in other occupations.

Coach Feltham was recently diagnosed with brain cancer and is undergoing treatments. The dedication will be this Friday, People can visit with Coach Feltham at 5:00 PM followed by the dedication at 6:00 PM, followed by the varsity boys’ soccer game at 7:00 PM. Coach Feltham was instrumental in starting the soccer program at B-G 30 years ago and has been involved with the program ever since.

A special Election Day will be held tomorrow, starting at 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. A Special Election is being held locally to fill the 19th Congressional District, following the appointment of Antonio Delgado to Lieutenant Governor, the candidates are Republican Marcus Molinaro and Democrat Patrick Ryan, the winner will fill the position through the end of this year. Also, due to the state's redistricting issues earlier this year, there will be primaries for Congressional and State Senate seats, in the 51st State Senate District, incumbent Republican Peter Oberacker faces a primary challenge from Terry Bernardo, in the 52nd State Senate District, Lea Webb & Leslie Danks Burke are running for the Democratic party nomination. In the 19th Congressional District, the Democratic Party Primary candidates are Jamie Cheney & Josh Riley, the winner in that race will appear on the Ballot in November for the term starting January 1st 2023. The Village of Sidney DPW announced that East Main Street is closed today between Chestnut Street and Main Street, to repair a service leak, officials hope to have the road was re-opened to traffic early this afternoon.
