Chenango County Sheriff's department arrested 65-year-old Edith Butler of Bainbridge for leaving a companion animal inside a vehicle during extreme conditions at a Norwich business. Deputies responded to find 2 dogs locked inside a car with insufficient ventilation for about 90 minutes. The dogs were then removed from the vehicle and appeared to be in good health. Butler was issued an appearance ticket for a later date in the Town of Norwich Court.
Sidney Village Officials announced that Main Street, between Smith Street & Cartwright Avenue would be closed tomorrow to traffic, between the hours of 8:00 AM & 4:00 PM. Crews will be digging trenches in that area for new electric service, as part of the Main Street Revitalization Program. All Main Street businesses will be open their normal Hours Thursday & will be accessible for customers.

33-Year-Old Tory Brown of Columbus was arrested by Chenango County sheriff’s Deputies for unlawful possession of marihuana, criminal possession of a weapon and aggravated unlicensed operation. Brown was charged following a traffic stop in the Village of New Berlin for operating a motor vehicle while having his driving privileges suspended, marijuana and a weapon were located in the vehicle. Brown was arraigned in the Town of New Berlin Court and was remanded to Chenango County Jail on cash bail pending future court action.
Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 46-year-old Kristin Slater of Sherburne for aggravated driving while intoxicated, following an accident in a parking lot of a local business in the Village of Sherburne. Slater is accused of striking 2-parked cars in the parking lot; her BAC was more than three times the legal limit. Slater was arrested and processed without indent and later released on tickets for a return date in the Village of Sherburne Court in October.
The Delaware County Board of Elections announced that Friday October 13th, is the last day to postmark a registration form to vote in the November 7th General Election. Also, October 13th is the last day for the Board of Elections to receive an enrollment change to be effective for 2018. In Delaware County this year, Offices up for Election include Supreme Court Justice, County Sheriff, County Clerk, County Treasurer and many town offices. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office arrested 20-year-old Stephen Duvall for criminal possession of stolen property, following the report of a stolen golf cart was being operated in the Village of New Berlin. When Deputies responded a local resident had stopped Duvall & the golf cart by blocking him in with his personal vehicle, the cart had been reported stolen in Otsego County. Duvall was arrested and was turned over to the Otsego County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation; he faces court action in New Berlin Court on October 16th.
On Saturday October 14th Delaware County Public Health and the Village of Sidney Police will be holding a free Car Seat Safety Event at McDonalds in Sidney, from 9AM-12PM. The free event will educate parents and caregivers on proper car seat installation and use. Several area fire companies responded this morning to the report of a fire with explosions of hazardous materials, at 178 Howe Lane in Afton off of State Route 41 in Afton. Governor Cuomo announced that nearly $37 million in grants and interest-free loans have been approved by the State Environmental Facilities Corporation Board of Directors to support drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the state. Today, Law Enforcement Officers around the state will participate in Operation Safe Stop Day. During "Safe Stop," police officers are on board school buses and in marked and unmarked patrol units on selected bus routes that have a history of illegal passing complaints. Police issue tickets to drivers who pass stopped school buses. In the last four years, 35 students were hit by motorists passing stopped school buses in New York State.

The State Department DOT will hold a public open house meeting today to discuss plans to replace a bridge on State Route 7 in the village of Afton. The open house will be held at the Afton Town Hall, from 5:30 to 7:000 PM today regarding the bridge was built in 1922 and carries State Route 7 over Kelsey Brook. The bridge is safe for continued travel and is regularly inspected. The purpose of the meeting is to share and exchange information with the public regarding the project and its potential impacts, including proposed work zone traffic control options to manage traffic during construction. Chenango County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on a 2013 Nissan Rogue and the occupant 24 year old Taylor Nelson of Afton. A traffic stop was conducted in Oxford where Nelson was taken into custody; Officers recovered digital scales, packaging material, methamphetamine, and cash. On Thursday January 19th, Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 35-year-old Brian Bennett of Stamford, on charge of obstructing governmental administration, felony assault, and felony assault on a police officer following a report of an assault in progress at a Restaurant in the Village of Stamford. Deputies allege that Bennett repeatedly struck another person leading to a fractured vertebra, and then kicking a Deputy in the face. Bennett was later arraigned in Stamford Town Court and was remanded to the Delaware County Jail on $10,000 bail.

Richards said that the district has lost 28% of their student population in the last 10 years, and the 2 buildings are over 90 years old and face millions of dollars in repairs & renovations.
Delaware County Sheriff Deputies responded to a 2-car motor vehicle accident on State Highway 206 in the Town of Walton Monday. 48-year-old Tenzin Pelmo of Ithaca was rear-ended by a vehicle being driven by 37 year old Karyl Rose of Bainbridge. Both drivers were transported to Delaware Valley Hospital for treatment of their injuries. Rose was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, unsafe tires and following too closely. Rose was arraigned & was released on her own recognize pending later court action in Town of Walton Court.
Bainbridge-Guilford-Afton-Harpursville Head Wrestling Coach Brandon MacNaught has been named the 2015-2016 New York State Wrestling Coach of the Year. The New York State Public High School Athletic Association recognized MacNaught's work during the 15-16 season, he had the task of working with 3 different school districts for his combined team, yet the Bears are consistently one of the most successful teams in the area. They sent several wrestlers to the state tournament in Albany last year and won several tournaments as a team as well.
